Too often, we tend to think of physical abuse when we think of abusive relationships. But the truth is, financial abuse is just as dangerous and can be just as damaging. Financial abuse is a type of manipulation where one partner controls all the money in the relationship. They may give their partner an allowance, forbid them from working or make all the financial decisions. That can leave the victim feeling powerless and dependent on their abuser. In this episode, Bob talks with divorce lawyer, empowerment trainer, author, and domestic violence advocate, Sonia Frontera. As a survivor of an abusive marriage, Sonia discusses some things people can do to prepare themselves to step away from toxic relationships. One in every four women and one in seven men experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes. "Stop the Hurt" is a guide that teaches you how to spot the signs and take steps to end the abuse in a relationship in which a partner is hurting you or someone you know. Thank you for taking the time to listen. To find links mentioned in the episode, connect with Sonia, resources and a transcript of this episode, please visit: https://go2.money/StoptheHurt

“The focus needs to be on what you're going to create going forward. It's not after the divorce is over, start right now!” -Sonia Frontera When we think about divorce, it's easy to put all of the blame on our ex. And while that might feel good at the moment, it can ultimately hurt us, our former spouse, and our kids in the long run. When we try and make someone else the bad guy, we get caught up in the blame game. We get caught up in fighting over things that don't matter to us anymore. And it keeps us stuck. It keeps us from moving forward and healing. But our ex is not the enemy here, and we are not either! But we know that the only person who can hurt us is ourselves. While it is pretty easy to get caught up in the anger and resentment of the situation, it is important to remember that there are ways to approach it so we can come out of the process with a better relationship with our ex and make the experience better for everyone, especially our kids. In this episode, Ted sits with trainer, author, and divorce lawyer Sonia Frontera to discuss the realities of divorce and the good things that can come out of the process if spouses approached it collaboratively. But first and foremost, unless it is an abusive relationship, the priority should be to save the marriage. After all, it is a sacred union. Ted and Sonia share practical steps that couples can take before even deciding to cut the cord. But the question is, what if in the end, they still decided to push through with the divorce? Tune in and learn how ex-spouses can navigate life after divorce and find happiness again. Special guest Sonia Frontera is a best selling author, lawyer, and empowerment trainer that has come on to discuss navigating the very challenging waters of separations and divorce. While all divorces are emotionally and spiritually draining, they become even more difficult for some when their partners or church threaten the faith component of the original marriage vows. Many feel lost and hopeless in these situations - especially so when there is verbal, mental, physical, and other types of abuse. In this episode we discuss all of the above as well as: - Active awareness and pushing through the "social indoctrination" of marriage and getting past the challenges of how divorce is viewed in society and the church - The power of using our intuition to guide us through these difficult relationship challenges - How to not beat yourself up or put yourself down when dealing with divorce - Defining what is acceptable on your terms in your relationship not the definition of how your relationship should be decided through "societal norms." - Moving on and still maintaining a happy, healthy, and empowered life post divorce. Today's Episode Title: What to do when you’re a parent pleaser with Sonia Frontera Why am I always seeking validation from my Parents? Why don’t they like me? How can I stop being a Parent- Pleaser? If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Parent-pleasing doesn’t have to be a life sentence. But it is a very common problem. So, you might be wondering: What makes a Parent-pleaser? First of all, for those of you who don’t know People-pleasers start off as parent pleasers. What many Parent-pleasers don’t realize is that Parent-pleasing can have serious risks. Not only does it put a lot of pressure and stress on you, but “essentially you can make yourself sick from doing too much.” If you’re overcommitted, you probably get less sleep and get more anxious and upset. You’re also “depleting your energy resources.” “In the worst-case scenario, you’ll wake up and find yourself depressed because you’re on such overload because you possibly can’t do it all. In today’s episode of Liberate Your People Pleaser, I’m going to dig deep and answer some very important questions regarding today’s subject. Who is a Parent-Pleaser? What makes a Parent- Pleaser? How we can overcome this problem? And obviously the most important questions: Is there a direct relationship between being a Parent-Pleaser and a People-Pleaser? All of that am going to discuss in this week’s episode with my guest Sonia Frontera. ---------------------- Sonia is giving away 5 copies of her book, Relationship Solutions.
