In this debrief episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon breaks down the key takeaways from Louise's story, including projection, financial dependence, post-separation abuse, and the slow erosion of reality inside a long-term abusive relationship. Louise's story shows how an abuser's conflicts with other people can become a warning sign, how small denials can train someone to question what they know, and how one person's version of reality can begin to dominate the entire relationship. It also looks at how financial abuse can continue long after separation, especially when agreements, employment, legal pressure, and money are used to keep someone unstable. This debrief is about reality being worn down over time, the exhaustion of defending yourself against projection, and the clarity that can come when the relationship finally ends and the pattern becomes impossible to ignore. This follow-up explores how chronic anger shapes a household, how guilt and obligation keep people stuck, and why the clearest view of an abuser sometimes comes only after no finally means no. Everyone loves them. Your friends think they're charming. Your family thinks you're lucky. You know what they're really like at home. And you wonder if you're the crazy one. This is Parts 3 and 4 of "Surviving the Fog"—examining financial coercive control and the psychology of the mask through the Kouri Richins case. We're not diagnosing anyone. We're exploring documented patterns that explain how intelligent people end up trapped.Prosecutors allege Kouri was $4.5 million in debt when Eric died. Over 200 overdraft transactions totaling $300,000. A $3.2 million mansion closing the day of his death. Financial abuse creates chains so complete that leaving becomes impossible—not because you're afraid, but because you literally cannot afford to go.The chaos strategy keeps you reactive. The "we" weapon makes every decision feel shared while one person controls. The flip turns your questions into accusations. The trap follows you: destroyed credit, joint debt, sabotaged employment. Financial desperation is a documented lethality indicator—when the house of cards collapses, danger spikes. Then there's the mask. After Eric died, Kouri wrote a children's book about grief. Featured her sons. Did media appearances as the grieving widow helping families heal. All while under investigation for allegedly murdering her husband.Public image management means every interaction is curated, building character witnesses before they're needed. "They would never"—the narrative gets set before you speak. Flying monkeys reinforce their reality while your support network erodes. Two people exist: warm and generous in public, cold and critical at home. The pressure paradox: the mask doesn't crack under scrutiny. It becomes more elaborate. The worse the truth, the better the performance has to be.The public saint and private monster are the same person. Why don't we talk about money when we talk about domestic abuse?Financial abuse doesn't leave bruises. It creates a trap so complete that leaving becomes impossible—not because you're afraid of being hurt, but because you literally cannot afford to go. This is Parts 3 and 4 of "Surviving the Fog"—examining financial coercive control and the psychology of the mask through the Kouri Richins case. We're not diagnosing anyone. We're exploring documented patterns.Prosecutors allege Kouri Richins was $4.5 million in debt. Over 200 overdraft transactions totaling $300,000. A $3.2 million mansion closing the day Eric died—one she allegedly couldn't afford. If true, this is financial abuse at its most extreme. The chaos strategy keeps you reactive—constant crisis means you can't analyze the pattern. The "we" weapon makes every decision shared while one person controls. The flip turns your questions about money into accusations that you're controlling. Then there's the mask. After Eric died, Kouri wrote a children's book about grief. Featured her sons. Did media appearances as the grieving widow helping families heal. All while under investigation for allegedly murdering her husband. We break down public image management—every interaction curated, every impression calculated, building character witnesses before they're needed. "They would never"—the four most dangerous words because they told their version first. Flying monkeys—people recruited to reinforce their reality while your support network erodes. The pressure paradox: the mask doesn't crack under scrutiny. It becomes more elaborate. When we talk about domestic abuse, we talk about bruises. We almost never talk about money. And that's a problem. This is Part 3 of "Surviving the Fog"—examining financial abuse through the Kouri Richins case. We're not diagnosing anyone. We're exploring documented patterns.Prosecutors allege Kouri was $4.5 million in debt when Eric died. Over 200 overdraft transactions. A mansion closing she allegedly couldn't afford. If those allegations are true, this is financial coercive control at its most extreme—and most deadly—conclusion.Financial abuse creates invisible chains. Debt without full disclosure. Controlled accounts. Sabotaged employment. Constant chaos that keeps you too overwhelmed to see the pattern. The word "we" becomes a weapon. "We" bears consequences while one person makes decisions. When you ask for visibility, you're the problem. You're controlling. You don't trust them. The shame keeps victims silent. The debt follows them out. Destroyed credit, joint debt, no resources—even leaving doesn't break the chains. And financial desperation is a lethality indicator. The Kouri Richins case is, at its core, a financial case.Prosecutors allege $4.5 million in debt. 200+ overdrafts. A mansion closing Eric allegedly didn't know they couldn't afford. If true, it's financial coercive control at its most extreme. This is Part 3 of "Surviving the Fog"—examining financial abuse as the ultimate form of control. We're not diagnosing anyone. We're exploring documented patterns.Financial abuse doesn't leave bruises. It creates invisible chains. Debt without disclosure. Controlled accounts. Sabotaged employment. Chaos that keeps you in survival mode. The word "we" is a weapon. "We" bears consequences while one person makes decisions. When you ask questions, you're controlling. You don't trust them. The conversation flips and you apologize for wanting to see your own finances. The shame keeps you silent. The debt follows you out. Destroyed credit means no apartment. Joint debt means responsibility whether you stay or leave. And here's what the research shows: financial desperation is a lethality indicator. Part 3 of "Surviving the Fog"—examining financial abuse as the ultimate form of coercive control. The Kouri Richins case is fundamentally a financial case. Prosecutors allege: $4.5 million in debt 200+ overdraft transactions totaling $300,000 A $3.2 million mansion closing the day Eric died Properties she allegedly couldn't afford without his estate If those allegations are accurate, this is financial coercive control at its most extreme endpoint. This episode breaks down how financial abuse works:INVISIBLE CHAINS: No bruises. No noise. Just debt, controlled accounts, sabotaged employment, and chaos that keeps you in survival mode.THE "WE" WEAPON: "We" need this. "We" are behind. But one person decides while both bear consequences.THE FLIP: Ask for financial visibility and suddenly you're controlling. You don't trust them. You end up apologizing.THE TRAP THAT FOLLOWS: Destroyed credit means no apartment. Joint debt means responsibility whether you stay or leave. The chains extend beyond the relationship.LETHALITY INDICATOR: Financial desperation correlates with escalation. When the house of cards collapses, danger spikes.Financial abuse is abuse—even if there's no physical violence. We're not diagnosing Kouri Richins. Worldwide one in six people over 60 have been abused, according to startling statistics from the World Health organisation. In Fiji last year, around 2000 cases of abuse were reported to the police, including physical, emotional and financial abuse. On Sistas Let's Talk Natasha Meten spoke to three women trying to combat the scourge of elder abuse in their community. Sashi Kirin, the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection in Fiji; Jullian Lava, who leads the women's ministry at her local Seventh-day Adventist Church in Papua New Guinea; and Dr Juliet Boon from Auckland University of Technology, who conducted a study into elder about among New Zealand's Pacific diaspora. What if the most powerful weapon in an abusive relationship isn't a fist, but a login? We sit down with Jordyn Lawson, Chief Residential Officer at Genesis Women's Shelter & Support, to unpack how financial abuse and coerced debt quietly trap survivors—even long after they leave. From paychecks diverted into hidden accounts to loans opened under threat or deception, money becomes a leash: it governs housing, food, credit, and the ability to move toward safety.Jordyn shares what frontline work reveals: the overwhelming prevalence of financial control, the shock of discovering debts for cars or even boats survivors never saw, and why credit scores can become gatekeepers to a new home or job. We connect the dots between personal harm and public cost—billions lost to intimate partner violence, millions of workdays missed, and the chilling number of workplace homicides tied to abusers. Most importantly, we map the way forward: how to spot red flags, how loved ones can support without minimizing, and how workplaces should prepare to protect employees targeted by abusers. There's real hope in policy and practice. We highlight legal reforms that recognize coerced debt as identity theft in Texas, how survivors can challenge fraudulent accounts, and why advocacy partnerships streamline credit repair with minimal cost. We also dig into financial literacy strategies that restore control—pulling credit reports on safe devices, securing independent accounts, documenting coercion, and planning for deposits and child care. Along the way, we confront enduring myths about who works, who controls the money, and why “everyone fights about finances” is not a free pass for abuse. If you care about safety, equity, or simply want to help someone you love, this conversation gives you clear tools and next steps. Listen, share with a friend, and help us push for policies and workplace practices that put safety first. If this episode resonates, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: what change would most improve financial safety for survivors?
Tracy was significantly impacted by legal fees incurred during a severe domestic violence situation, which led to high-interest personal loans due to poor credit. This experience highlighted the reality of financial abuse, a tactic used for power and control. She emphasizes that financial abuse can take many forms, including withholding money or using legal fees as a scare tactic, and that recognizing it is the first step toward healing. Tracy also discovered her need for a personal relationship with money, tracing it back to her parents' poverty and a resulting negative view on finances. She learned that understanding these patterns, often rooted in childhood experiences, is vital for changing financial behavior. This self-awareness allowed her to practice restraint, avoid impulse purchases, and refrain from opening new credit cards. There is a lot to learn from Tracy, as she shares her Long Story $hort.Key takeaways:Seek professional guidance like MMI when facing overwhelming debtUnderstand the impact of financial abuse and its connection to debtDevelop self-awareness regarding your relationship with money and spending habitsPractice restraint and accountability to stick to your financial goalsLeverage conversations with trusted individuals to find support and resourcesKey moments:00:00 Tracy's Journey to MMI03:15 Finding MMI and Debt Management05:37 Understanding Financial Abuse08:36 Working with MMI and Overcoming Isolation12:32 Learning Restraint and Money Relationship15:37 Breaking the Stigma and Seeking Awareness19:14 A New Debt-Free Goal and Paying it Forward23:13 Tracy's Lasting Message of Hope

Slam The Gavel welcomes back William Sewell from SC to the podcast. William was last on Season 5, Episode 269. William was accompanied by Mike "Thunder" Phillips, Investigative Journalist, who has also been documenting William's case. Today, they discussed updates to William's case such as being extorted $60,950,00 in attorney fees to Attorney D. Gamache, paying his ex-wife's attorney fees, an unknown figure for the third party parasite, Guardian Ad Litem and $8,395.00 for reopening a case (not William's idea) on the 365 Day Rule. On top of that, his ex has legal and physical custody with full decision making and first right of refusal. All of this documented in a 35 page order by Judge M. Kimmons at the taxpayer's expense. Essentially they are trying to force/demand William to sell his home and imputed his income by three times a figure he has never made. Sound familiar? When does financial support turn into financial control? Are you really in charge of your finances - or just being told you are? What if the person you love most is also the one slowly eroding your financial freedom? In this gripping episode of Financially Ever After Widowhood, Stacy sits down with narcissist divorce coach and survivor Victoria McCooey to talk about something that happens far too often but is rarely talked about: financial abuse. From subtle control to outright manipulation, Victoria pulls back the curtain on what this form of abuse looks like, how it evolves, and why even the smartest, most capable women can find themselves stuck in it. With raw honesty and hard-won wisdom, she shares not just her story, but real strategies for reclaiming your power - and your paycheck. You'll hear them discuss: How financial abuse often starts with what seems like kindness or practicality Why smart, educated, successful women are still vulnerable to financial manipulation The common emotional traps that keep women stuck in abusive dynamics Telltale signs you're being excluded or controlled financially What to do if you're afraid of retaliation or escalating violence when trying to leave How Victoria “stole” her own paycheck to buy health insurance and what happened next The vital role of tax returns, credit reports, and hidden debts in uncovering the truth Why guilt and self-blame are so common - and completely undeserved How community and connection can help women feel less alone and more empowered Resources Victoria McCooey on Web | Facebook | LinkedIn | YouTube | Instagram | Tiktok | Email | Phone: 516-449-4311 Stacy Francis on LinkedIn | X(Twitter) | Email FrancisFinancial.com Reach out to receive a complimentary consultation! **This episode contains content that may be alarming for some listeners, including depictions of domestic violence, financial abuse and cult-related trauma. If you or a loved one are struggling in these areas, please visit the resources below for help and more information. This week on The Traumedy Show, Emily Rose, founder of The Mama Wilder Foundation, details her story of surviving domestic violence, financial abuse and the isolation that came with marrying into a religious cult. She takes us through the painful unraveling of that life—how control was disguised as faith and how she ultimately found the strength to leave. But her story doesn't end there. Emily fought her ex-husband in criminal and family court for domestic violence and for custody of her children. And, in a stunning turn, her now-husband helped her take back her power—by cross-examining her narcissistic mother in the courtroom. It's a story of pain, escape, the pursuit of justice and the kind of love that helps you rebuild. Resources: National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233
