POPULARITY
A favourite album of Kate's receives the Memorabilia Podcast scrutiny this week as we focus our attention on the intense, brooding, magnificence that is 'Murder Ballads' by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds from 1996. Their 9th studio album release, notable for its dark subject matter and cameo appearances from PJ Harvey, Kylie Monogue, and Shane McGowan, was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release. Benefitting from the substantial airplay received for lead single 'Where The Wild Roses Grow', the record remains the bands most commercial succesful release to date. Discover the story behind the songs, how the album came to be, and what Rick and Kate thought of the album, each scoring it out of 10. Can it trouble the top ranked 5 LP's covered so far? The UK singles and album charts reviewed are from the 5th of February 1996 with the usual mix of the good, the bad and the ugly. Rick declared the top 4 albums as the best covered to date and argued strongly that it wasn't just because he owned all 4! In the news we heard about divorce, the splitting up of the most successful British band of the 1990s (no tears were shed from our presenters), Jarvis Cocker's infamous escapades at The Brit Awards, and channel tunnel challenges. The UK box office including a film that wasn't based on George Orwells Animal Farm (although it did star a pig), a David Fincher classic and another top 10 where Kate hadn't seen a single movie! Or Top 3's this week include songs by Ian Prowse, Tom Jones, Rage Against The Machine, Eminem, Johnny Cash and Aerosmith. Find out what subject links them all together (bit of a clue in the subject of this episode's featured album!). Join us as we dive into the world of The Amazons, a hometown hero band hailing from Reading, UK. Explore their emerging indie rock sound that leans more towards Stereophonics than Blur, sharing the stage with the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Sundara Karma, Foals, and Wolf Alice. Relive the moment their Reading Festival anthem "In My Mind" captivated the crowd and discuss their most-viewed record "Stay with Me," reminiscent of early Oasis. Revisit their debut album, "The Amazons," released in 2017, and get excited for their upcoming follow-up album, currently in the works in Wales. Speculate on their potential Radio 1 stage performance, and rate the likelihood of catching them live at Reading Festival.
In the FIFTH installment of a semi-regular series, I reveal 5 MORE essential alternative rock songs you've (likely) never heard before. As a self-proclaimed "music snob", I tend to fall in love with lesser-known bands, as I dive deep into their catalogs and search for the best songs that never see the light of day. These 5 songs were meticulously handpicked and I can't wait to share them (and many more) with you. Each track gets a small intro/synopsis and then you get to indulge in the ENTIRE SONG here on the pod. I'm proud of this series. Enjoy. Featuring music from: Last Dinosaurs, Palace, Sundara Karma, Bombay Bicycle Club and Video Age. LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE...ANYWHERE YOU GET PODCASTS!

This week Alex has been to a festival with 1000 people called Bracken, sitting on hay bales, wearing flannel shirts, listening to SUNDARA KARMA, that sort of thing. Meanwhile Ash has also been getting into the hipstar spirit with his very own personal vapinator. Gamewise we've a bit of Pyre, a bit of Max Payne, a bit of Orc and some tasty documentaries. Wildpants is desperate, Fulham combine with Konami, and Devolver is making a Codumentary. Some cool stuff is out this week, Funk has news on his Just Cause adventures, Adyummi is confirmed as a massive G Money, and finally, JJ has some choice words about Mario's makers, and Mel returns with some fine art.

While I didn't get to go to SXSW this year, I still enjoyed the heck out of listening to all the amazing music. Once again, I've listened to somewhere around 2000 bands and narrowed it down to my 21 favorite flavors. If you want to check out the slightly less selective top 60 or so, that playlist is on Spotify here. Otherwise, just dig into this. As always, the amount of pure talent on display is incredibly humbling. Also, thanks for your patience! I just moved and everything is still a big mess but thankfully I was able to record one last episode in the Hideout House. Loved that place. Sad to see it go but it's on to the next.
