Beyond thrilled to welcome an incredible musician and a good friend of mine to Percussion Discussion Podcast - Ged Lynch. Ged has a remarkable list of household names on his CV including the likes of Peter Gabriel, Black Grape, Clannad, Tom Jones, Hanson, Electronic, The Icicle Works, Michael Hutchence, Joe Strummer, David Silvian, Dr John, Natalie Imbruglia, Cat Stevens, Suggs, Birdy, Seth Lakeman, Chrissie Hynde......i mean, where do you start? At the beginning of course, in Geds native Blackburn, we talk about his early days of playing in working mens clubs (these were staple gigs in northern towns and cities) playing all manner of gigs including backing strippers...... as a 14 year old! We pick through some of the many career highlights including waiting by the radio on a Sunday evening to find out where Black Grapes debut album had charted (number 3, later number 1!) through to getting the gig with the legendary Peter Gabriel, and some of the many amazing adventures that took him on, including a co headline tour of the US with Sting with none other than Vinnie Colaiuta occupying stings drum chair! Ged gives so many beautiful little nuggets as we go through our conversation, i really hope you enjoy it as much as i did doing it! He is one of the nicest and most gentle souls on this earth and i was very grateful for this oppurtunity to grab a very very rare interview with him! Cheers Ged! www.gedlynch.com
Send us a Text Message.Danny Saber stops by the podcast to discuss his latest release with the late Micheal Hutchence as well as his relationship with Michael. We discuss how he chose his musical path, other artists he worked with, and more. **** In the great pantheon of musicians transcending above mere “celebrity” status, the late MICHAEL HUTCHENCE towers over most. A consummate “rock star” if there ever was one, he embodied the spirit and smoldering swagger of rock ‘n' roll while possessing one of the most iconic voices in the contemporary music scene. So, it was with an earth-rattling shudder when tragically he passed away in 1997, leaving a mind-numbingly impressive legacy across the entertainment realm. What many didn't know, however, is that he left some of his brilliance behind in the form of unreleased music. Producer, musician, and personal friend DANNY SABER (Madonna, Rolling Stones, U2) has completed some of these musical pieces to continue and extend Hutchence's impact. The new single “ONE WAY” was released, April 5, 2024 via Boss Sonics.“'One Way' is the culmination of nearly two decades of work,” says Saber. “One of the fundamental reasons for releasing this music is to allow the fans to hear Michael's voice on something new and fresh, offering a glimpse into what might have been, and, in turn, reawakening millions of people who may have simply forgotten about him.”“Michael first contacted me in 1995 soon after the release of my album It's Great When You're Straight,” recalls Saber, referring to the UK #1 album by his band Black Grape with Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder. “Michael was a huge fan of my record and wanted to find the right sound for a solo record, a sound that would galvanize all the success he had with INXS and allow him to establish himself as a solo artist and spread his creative wings outside the confines of being the frontman of one of the most successful bands in the world.”Working closely with Hutchence, the two became friends and creative partners. “Over the next two years, we became very close collaborators, and the period we worked together was one of the best times of my life,” Saber remembers. “I had just broken through with a #1 record and having Michael as a ‘big brother' to help me navigate this was so important to me.”Get your copy of "One-Way" hereMichael Hutchence Picture by Chris CuffaroDanny Saber Picture by Dear KarrPR - REYBEE, INC***If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comThis episode is on YouTube: https://youtu.be/-T_3IjUIPPIFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comHave a question for our producer Rich Zei contact him at rich.zei@thirdearaudio.comIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast SuziTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2024 Better To...Podcast with D. This week: new albums from Middle Kids and Black Grape, and EPs from Little Simz, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Matt Cameron. Also: traditional apologies, mostly harmless, that one theme from that one show, a clarification, old mate Dave, the Taylor-P!nk demarkation line, another triumph of Big Data, talking about pop music, having opinions about the Beatles, on the buckets, ice cream on hash browns, universal reactions, techno sucks and other very 1995 worldviews, different inspiration and/or different drugs, UK grim(e), live at Levitation, cleanliness is next to grunginess, Ghetts' guests, nothing from Scotland can ever be bad, aggressive losses, pre-emptively avoiding Double J, official bootlegs, the Pearl Jam military-industrial complex and what's my age again (spoilers: a lot). Already in 2024 we have seen a slew of amazing Dub tracks being released. This is a continuous mixtape weaving together the classic foundation and the new excitement. Mexican Institute Of Sound's newest single (with Ceci Bastida) release is Stop! It accompanies an amazing album of career retrospective oro. Camilo Lara's music is always perfecto and he is an artist I play more than most on my radio shows. Black Grape are back with a new album Pumpkin Head, and in my opinion it's the best one since Isn't It Great…And this record is great and more. It's filled with slow burning dub sounds that are almost torch song ballads - and the emotional intelligence is more than we could have hoped for from a long term functioning twisted melon. It's bloody fantastic. Also featuring Panda Bear, Sonic Boom, Adrian Sherwood, MU, Kassa Overall, Andrae Murchison, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Manu Chao, LKJ, Dennis Bovell, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, Johnny Clarke, King Tubby, Sly & Robbie and loads more! This show was first broadcast on the 2nd of February, 2024For more info and tracklisting, visit: https://thefaceradio.com/matt-pape-mixtape/Tune into new broadcasts of Matt Pape Mixtape, Friday from 12 - 1 AM EST / 5 - 6 AM GMT.Dig this show? Today, on a very soundtrack-heavy discussion, I'm joined by the former editor of Gamespot and Giant Bomb--and current podcaster with the Nextlander Podcast and the Nextlander Watchcast--Alex Navarro (@alex_navarro), and we're talking about the American release of SUPERCOP. Dimension Films bought the rights to it, and the Weinsteins gave it a new edit with a completely incongruous soundtrack. In this episode we talk about the film itself, the incredible final act, Michelle Yeoh being the best, what a force of nature Jackie Chan was in his heydey, whether The Fresh Prince was responsible for Tom Jones 90s revival, how funny it is to see Hong Kong drug lords having a conversation in a car while listening to Warren G, how bad the Black Grape song is, and more. We venture into the near future of 1999 to take a look at the VR cyberpunk action spectacular 'Virtuosity' starring Denzel Washington and a then-unknown Russell Crowe in what Carlee argues is his best performance (with a few asterisks). We discuss the film's early arrival at the forefront of virtual reality stories that would become a lynchpin of late 90s science-fiction cinema, its impressive mixture of practical and digital special effects, and why the decade's middleweight movies often reveal the most about the culture of the era. BLUE ARMY! Hello there, and welcome to another episode of Trve. Cvlt. Pop!, the best music podcast in the world... so we say. This week the World Cup starts... which is a bit bizarre, but we thought we would get in on the act and talk about the relationship between football and music. Steve knows all about the game, Sam probably calls it soccer, THE IDIOT, so we needed another voice to help us through, and who better to join us than frontman of Therapy? and massive Chelsea fan Andy Cairns. We look at 8 pre-tournament tunes to see if they hold up to musical scrutiny, from New Order, Baddiel and Skinner, Black Grape, Collapsed Lung, Fat Les, Ant and Dec, Dizzee Rascal and the England World Cup squad (on numerous occasions)... oh, and, yeah, James Corden as well. FFS. There's also talk of a few songs we've been loving this week, from Mina Caputo, Letlive and Girls in Synthesis. Plus Steve reports of Biffy and Architects big London show at the O2, and a much more intimate affair at Gang of Youths. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Making commercially successful funky dance pop music amid Britpop's reign may have only been possible via Shaun Ryder. The then ex-Happy Monday hooked up with producer Danny Saber and a group of new cohorts to produce 1995's debut album by Black Grape, It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah. Mixing the big beats of Big Audio Dynamite with touches of ascendent electronic music like trip-hop, while still dipping a toe in the Madchester scene, there's plenty going as slide guitars and sitars brush up against funk basslines and saxophone solos. It's not entirely successful, but Ryder and Co. manage to push the best material to the limits and create a truly unique sound for the middle of the decade. We value raw grapes for their sweetness, crunch and vivid gem like colors. They're the eye candy on a pale chicken salad or soufflé, the colorful contrast on a cheese plate. Cooking them transforms their color while concentrating flavor. Chef Scott Samuel of the Culinary Institute of America was asked to develop some contemporary recipes with California table grapes. In this video Chef Samuel makes a sorbet that retains the grapes vivid color and fresh flavor. Download a printer-friendly copy of the recipe at: http://ciaprochef.com/grapes/recipe21/

Today, behind a door of a locked down-home, just miles of where you are now, someone will commit suicide. As we emerge from lockdown-3 to face a world of 'haves' and' have nots', he or she won't be alone.Charities across the UK are calling the mental health crisis the ‘second pandemic. In the first six months after lockdown, from March to November 2020, London Ambulance Service recorded 15,541 calls relating to suicide or attempted suicide. That compares to 11,703 calls over the same period in 2019. The figures do not take into account the most recent, lockdown which many suggest is having an even graver effect on deteriorating mental health. In this episode of Thought and Leaders, Jonathan Gabay talks to Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM about the rise of suicide rates - especially affecting men.The discussion covers everything from the threat of unemployment post-COVID-19, expectations on families struggling to cope, the worrying increase in suicide and self-harm within the 16-24 age group, as well as LGBTQ+ community, and much more.As CEO Simon has overseen CALM transform its brand and operations, and more than double its helpline service provision to reach more people in crisis.(Latest studies predict that up to 10 million people in England will need new or additional mental health support due to COVID-19).Prior to CALM, Simon led the digital, marketing and commercial divisions of Virgin Media TV, EMI Music, the BBC, Bacardi and BBH. His time in music has seen him work with some of the most iconic bands and artists of a generation including Black Grape, Elastica, Blur, Bon Jovi, and Michael Hutchins. Thought and Leaders is a Gabay production. I love you so will you marry me". Escuchar audio

My Life Story with Jake Shillingford in conversation At the time of their debut single, "Girl A, Girl B, Boy C" (1993) produced by Giles Martin son of George, the group had a regular line-up of twelve members. Though the membership fluctuated continually, it rarely dipped into single figures until 1999, when their third album credited just four regular members, though most of the former line-up were still used as session musicians. Their orchestral sound led them to be compared to groups such as Tindersticks and especially The Divine Comedy. Their debut album, Mornington Crescent was released on 10 January 1995. My Life Story enjoyed the most success at the time of their second album The Golden Mile, which was released on 10 March 1997. It spawned five singles that entered the lower half of the UK Singles Chart, but finally disbanded after a series of farewell concerts in December 2000. On 26 May 2006 the band reformed with the full line-up of thirteen members, to play at the Mean Fiddler (LA2) on Charing Cross Road in London, in support of their forthcoming Best Of album. The gig got a review rating of 10/10 from Planet Sound. A second reunion show took place at the Astoria in London on 8 December 2006. Further reunions have taken place every two years on 13 December 2007 at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, and Koko on 26 November 2009, where the band performed their debut album, Mornington Crescent, for the first time in its entirety. In 2009, it was announced that, to mark 15 years since their debut album, the group would reform and perform the album in full, together with later songs. This concert took place at KOKO which is next door to Mornington Crescent tube station. My Life Story announced that they were to reunite again to perform The Golden Mile at the Shepherds Bush Empire on 3 March 2012 to celebrate fifteen years since the album's release. In mid-2013 the group announced their first UK tour in 14 years. Singer Jake Shillingford is reported to have said: "For many years we have only been able to play a big London show due to the sheer size and scale of the band. Now I am able to take my songs out on the road with a stripped down tight rocking outfit." "I will be joined by various members of My Life Story along my journey around the UK, culminating in our traditional annual London concert with the original bunch, I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again, expect a big, bold and brash performance, all foxy horns and horny foxes." In September 2016 My Life Story released their first single in 16 years, "24 Hour Deflowerer". The launch was marked with a two-night residency at The Borderline in London on 14–15 October, with all audience members receiving a numbered limited edition 7" vinyl of the single. My Life Story performed in the Star Shaped Festival, a Britpop revival tour, alongside The Bluetones, Space, Dodgy and Salad, in July/August 2017 and again in August/September 2018 together with Echobelly, Black Grape and The Supernaturals. The band's current five-piece line-up features Jake Shillingford (vocals), Nick Evans (guitar), Chris Hardwick (drums), Jack Hosgood (bass) and Aimee Smith (keys). The fourth My Life Story studio album, World Citizen, was crowd-funded with pre-orders from fans and was released on 6th September 2019. Described as "the best My Life Story album ever", World Citizen received review scores of 4/5 in The Express, 85% in Hi Fi News and 7/10 in Uncut The release will be followed by a UK tour in November.

When New Order entered the 1990s, they were coming off their first number one album on the UK charts along with two top twenty singles. So what did they do? Immediately split into multiple factions. While the well received 1993 album Republic would produce one of their finest singles in Regret, the 90s for New Order are defined by side projects. For bassist Peter Hook, it started with Revenge and continued with Monaco. For Bernard Sumner, he paired up with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, and brought along a number of notable collaborators from bands such as the Pet Shop Boys, Kraftwerk and Black Grape to form Electronic, while Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert formed the slightly passive-aggressively named The Other Two for a pair of albums. Shaun Ryder is a bonafide rock star with stories to tell. The Happy Mondays and Black Grape frontman joins me to share his creativity, his back story and why he feels as energised as ever before with Black Grape due to start a fresh UK tour off the back of returning album Pop Voodoo. Not one to hold back with the truth, Shaun touches upon why trends are the worst thing to follow, how he learned on the job and the key role played by Tony Wilson who appreciated not just their technical abilities, but the whole aura, attitude and appearance of the band and allowed them freedom to develop creatively. It's a spellbinding glimpse into one of music's most interesting minds. Get us your thoughts on social @arrestallmimics, listen and subscribe on Spotify, iTunes, Stitcher and more. This week's episode of Riot Act comes with a twist! Usually, it’s Steve who is the grumpy one, but this week Remfry is going in on EVERYONE, presumably due to his less than flattering inclusion on the Batman Soundtrack Wikipedia page. He GROANS about Architects' glorious Wembley triumph! He MOANS about Shaun Ryder and his Black Grape chums sounding too 90s on 'It’s Great When You’re Straight, Yeah!' after he was given them on Trade Off! He SLAMS Flint thugs King 810… He likes A.A. Williams and Puppy though. Steve is happy enough to talk about everything, including Remfry’s Trade Off pick 'We Walk Unbalanced' by Chronicles Of Adam West. Back to usual next week no doubt. Sunday's AFTN Soccer Show on CiTR radio was so packed, we've had to release it over two parts. This second episode of the three hour show focuses on the Canadian Premier League and the PDL. We kick things off with some PDL chat, looking at TSS Rovers great start to the season that's seen them go unbeaten in their last five matches to sit joint top of the standings. We chat with coach Will Cromack after a six point weekend that saw them lift their first piece of silverware. After that we turn our attention to the Canadian Premier League. It's been a good and a bad week for fans hoping to see teams here in BC. Victoria look set to be in for 2019, but that's the expense of the Fraser Valley bid. We look at what we know about both potential teams journey so far and what lies ahead for both clubs and also the Victoria Highlanders. But one team that definitely will be there for the start of the CPL in 2019 is Calgary's Cavalry FC. We chat about the ins and outs of the team, and hopes for the league, with current Foothills FC head coach, and soon to be Cavalry FC head coach and GM, Tommy Wheeldon Jr. All that plus Black Grape feature in this week's Wavelength section, and BC Soccerweb headlines looks at some stories from around the world of football. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:02.20: Will Cromack interview and TSS Rovers chat12.16: Canadian Premier League in BC discussion31.35: Tommy Wheeldon Jr interview and Cavalry FC chat55.08: Wavelength - Black Grape - England's Irie61.34: BC Soccerweb headlines

Shaun Ryder is a British institution, recognised as much for his larger than life persona and excessive drug use as for his unique work in Black Grape and the rave era-defining Happy Mondays. He's slowed down the partying in recent years and the hell raising days are a thing of the past, but with new music from both Black Grape and Happy Mondays on the way, Ryder's in the best shape of his life and the future looks brighter than ever for our kid. On this weeks XS Noize Music Podcast Mark Millar talks to music legend Shaun Ryder and Producer Danny Saber to discuss 21 years of Black Grape's debut album ‘It's Great When You're Straight… Yeah' and loads more. Black Grape was founded in 1993 by legendary Happy Mondays Shaun Ryder and Bez, who recruited former Rap Assasin Paul ‘Kermit' Leveridge, Carl ‘Pyscho' McCarthy, drummer Ged Lynch and guitarist Wags (formerly of Paris Angels). After signing to Radioactive Records, in 1995 they released their debut album It's Great When You're Straight…Yeah. The album debuted at number 1 (eventually going platinum) and spawned three, instantly recognisable Top 20 singles: ‘Reverend Black Grape', ‘In The Name Of The Father' and ‘Kelly's Heroes'. This weeks featured track is ‘Escape The World' by singer-songwriter Michael Forsyth. For Michael Forsyth, its only ever been about the music. A prolific writer, he is already working on a follow up album to ‘Stop For the World' and his new single ‘Escape the World' is the first track to come from that. An anthemic and accomplished slice of indie pop mixed by celebrated LA based producer Danny Saber, ‘Escape the World' is immediate in its appeal and looks set to further extend Michael's evergrowing fan base as it picks up glowing reviews and playlistings around the world. From juice bars to coffee bars to cocktail bars, the venues where Americans drink have become more diverse…and a lot more inventive. Chef Scott Samuel from The Culinary Institute of America shows us a new take on lemonade, flavored with sweet black grape juice, tangy tamarind and herbaceous mint. The black grapes make the lemonade a beautiful purple color. Recipe at: http://ciaprochef.com/grapes/recipe4/
In this demonstration, Chef Scott Samuel from The Culinary Institute of America prepares a healthy and flavorful grab-and-go wrap recipe. The chimmichurri sauce is used as the marinade for the chicken as well as the sauce inside the wrap. He adds black grapes that he has sliced into rings, to add a perfect sweet, refreshing crunch. Chef Samuel designed this recipe for retail foodservice, but it's also great for home cooks. Recipe athttp://ciaprochef.com/grapes/recipe7/
