It's GHOE week, which means we're starting things off right with my bro Jerrell "Dapper J" Leeper! A graduate of North Carolina A&T, Dap discusses his memories at A&T from the live reactions after Obama's 2012 win to what it was like watching Tarik Cohen in his prime. He also discusses what it's like working as a communications professional in the halls of Congress, and the bonds he's formed with other HBCU graduates in the professional space. Hosted on Acast. I'm honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda? Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase. Revved for a big week of podcasts as this is the first of THREE coming your way. Doing what I love best in bringing you up to speed on ALL that's happening in sports. On deck: (2:54) A couple of housekeeping notes before commencing. On Friday, I'll have a special guest as sports talk show host of WFAN in New York, Keith McPherson will join me to discuss his compelling journey in this business. It's a conversation that's packed with plenty of inspiration and dedication that you won't want to miss. And, of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the promotion regarding OLIPOP. Please see above. (5:39) I kick off the podcast talking about the dreadful Chicago White Sox. They're one loss away from tying an American League record and three away from matching the major league record of 23. Will they do it? Who are their opponents? I'll get into who they'll play this week and could they possibly become a part of baseball futility? Blake Snell's no-hitter on Friday vs. Cincinnati. Mike Trout is done for the year with another injury. What's next for the three time MVP? Gleyber Torres gets deservedly benched. What's his future in pinstripes if I were the GM? I'll check on the latest in both leagues as the divisions and wild card races are heating up. (33:21) NFL preseason games will be in full bloom this week, but there's been a rash of injuries throughout with some key players (Puka Nacua, De'Andre Hopkins, Justin Herbert, Geno Smith, etc.) in the sport that we'll have to keep an eye on. There was another retirement (Tarik Cohen), a big time signing in Tampa Bay (OL Tristan Wirfs) and will anyone watch Hard Knocks on HBO (Chicago Bears) starting tomorrow night? (39:03) Gordon Hayward, the longtime member of the Utah Jazz, played with the Celtics, Hornets, etc. retired after 14 years in the NBA. (41:02) The Summer Games are into the final week in Paris. I don't understand why events/sports like golf or tennis is a part of the Olympic landscape. Should it even be a part of the Olympiad? I'll keep you up to date on what's gone on over the past few days, including Simone Biles coming in fifth on the balance beam. Was anyone surprised by her performance? Should she be criticized for falling short of the gold? (51:32) Boxer Terrance Crawford wins a close bout on Saturday night to become a four time champ in different weight classes. Why is it that he's not getting the recognition he deserves as a fighter who has a record of (41-0 with 31 KO's)? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers showed that Kenny Pickett was their QB1 of the NFL Draft by taking him in the first round. But can Pickett beat out Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph in training camp to be the Steelers' starter? Pickett's biggest challenges of transitioning to the NFL could reveal part of the answer, but questions about whether he can handle the pressure of being the Steelers' starting quarterback can be answered by anyone who's followed Pickett's college career: yes. Also, Damontae Kazee's impact on the Steelers' safety position with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds, the Devin Bush deadline for his 5th year option, and why Joe Haden and Tarik Cohen could be free agent targets soon. Ryan Poles ain't playing around, folks. Add both Eddie Goldman and Tarik Cohen to the list of departing Bears. How would you like to see those 12 million bucks of freed-up cap space spent? Then, we say goodbye to Khalil Mack in the only way Chris Tannehill knows how to – with the "Goodfellas" treatment.
The Bears made two more cuts by letting go of Tarik Cohen and Eddie Goldman. Are you liking the moves Ryan Poles is making? Plus, is Carlos Correa a real possibility for the Cubs?
