For years, Payson has maintained that Nichole is the most talented athlete in their household, but it wasn't until this winter that she finally decided to add some structure to her riding and shoot for some concrete goals. It all came about during an unusual lull in her schedule shortly after she and Payson finished his crossing project in New Zealand and got married in Tasmania, and just after she completed her capstone project for her Master's Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins. Payson and Nichole sat down to talk about how her tentative request for a training plan turned into an increasingly busy racing schedule. She started out by jumping into the four-day Sahara Gravel stage race in Morocco in February before winning the Central Missouri Circuit, a 340-mile ultra race, earlier this month. This weekend, she'll be lining up for the Unbound 100 in preparation for the Vapor Trail, a high-country bikepacking race later this year. Nichole talks about surprising herself in Morocco by discovering a thrill for racing, dealing with the heat, mental exhaustion, and fueling headaches during the overnight Central Missouri Circuit, and what it's been like having Payson as a coach. They also catch up on her studies at Johns Hopkins and how they relate to her work at the biopsy clinic in Uganda. For a more in-depth conversation about her work in pathology, listen to our episode from last year: Nichole Baker on her eighth year in Uganda for Path of LogicInstagram: @withpacepodYouTube: Payson McElveen

Chaz N Schatz visit with Heath McCoy, best-selling author, award winning journalist, and sports writer from the Great White North. You may know Heath from his spots on And The Podcast Will Rock, where he's forever defending David Lee Roth's version of Van Halen, and we get to know Heath even better, deep diving on his journalism career, having been the entertainment beat reporter for the Calgary Herald. Not only a Rush fan, Heath has been fortunate enough to interview both Geddy and Alex, and we get to hear some of his best moments speaking to some of his all-time heroes. Join us as Heath shares: What it was like speaking with Ged in 2000 just before the band made their comeback with Vapor Trails. Having fun with Lerxt when the band did come back. The story of a stand-off between Bad News Alan (Schatz's new nickname) and Andre The Giant - and hearing Schatz scold Andre as a result! Getting the run around from James Brown, and being present while he was getting blown backstage, with a big, toothy smile! Pushing David Lee Roth to the point where he drops the “Mr. Showbiz” persona. Getting on stage with Randy Bachman as a drunken fan and being brought back up for an encore! Heath's fandom of Rush goes deep. He name drops some deep cuts and shares that his earliest aspiration was “to be Neil Peart” as a rock star, drummer, and writer of lyrics. The wheel gives us the lighter side of Rush, sharing Different Strings off 1980's Permanent Waves. The guys can't help but make at least two Ozzy Osbourne references from this song, leading them to wonder: was The Ozz-Man a fan of this song and Rush?? We name-drop usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we thought fondly of Ed from rushisaband.com. We forget to give a shout-out to our sponsors Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai but we meant to (must be the gummie hangover). In another weird convergence of events and a crossing of the ethereal streams, Chaz and Shatz welcome Greg “Wolfie” Wolfe and Scotzo Monroe, Chaz' co-hosts on the Regarding…Series of podcasts, where the hosts listen to albums so the listener doesn't have to. The show has featured Lulu by Lou Reed and Metallica, and Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon Redux. And since Chaz is technically a guest on this episode, Schatz takes the lead seat. Join us as we: Learn the genesis of the Regarding…Series and why these guys thought it was a good idea to create a podcast about albums people generally avoid. Hear all about how Eddie Van Halen took control of the board on Van Halen III and how he, along with Gary Cherone of Extreme on vocals, created what has become the most challenging record in the band's catalog. Get the low-down on the fan-produced Van Halen III Redux you've read about on Van Halen News Desk, LoudWire, Metal Injection, and others. A Scott D. Monroe, Kevin Brown Production. We learn about what Scotzo and Kev did to reimagine Van Halen III by trimming the fat and doing the job Mike Post should have. Straight up ask why we can't see anything, anywhere, about Rush's thoughts on Van Halen and vice versa. Get into a little healthy competition between the bands to figure out who's sold more records, Rush or Van Halen (care to wager?) How studio heavyweight Danny Kortchmar (Roger Waters, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne , Warren Zevon, Don Henley) was brought in to help produce a follow-up to Van Halen III that never happened. We announce a new Rush-based podcast, RushRash911! The wheel gives us a song fitting for our guests as we spin Freeze (Part IV of Fear) of 2002's Vapor Trail. It's a disorienting song that shouldn't work, from weird chords, crazy polyrhythms, and a lyric sheet that's got our eyes wide like a deer in the headlights. Freeze (Part IV of Fear) (FFS), this is a challenging song that's right up our guests...ally. We name-drop some of our usual suspects like rushvault.com, and we are always thinking about rushisaband.com, and our fantabulous sponsor, Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai! And we even nailed the Scratch List - go scratch that itch with any of these bands!Schatz's Scratch List: UK Scotland Moving Pictures Scotland Leoni Jane Kennedy RushFest Scotland North America USA YYNOT Second Contact Solar Federation Accidental Breakdown Rush Archives Mood Lifters Lotus Land Dumb Love Vapor Trail Rash The Discs A Farewell To Kings Canada New World Men 2112 YYC South America Brazil RushFest Brazil Rush news, general nonsensical disorderly conduct, lack of regard for correctness or truth, and reckless endangerment of your whole-brain. This is the only podcast dedicated to increasing opioid release in your anterior insula, your anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), and your posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), in addition to the basal ganglia and the thalamus...and all that that implies. Some thick North Jersey accents and they give you some royalty-free sound effects and movie clips too - what more do you need to indulge your urge to scratch?! After participating in the Life Time Grand Prix in its first two years, Taylor Lideen missed out on a spot this year. While that might leave some riders struggling for motivation, it's done the opposite for him. Two weeks ago, at Sea Otter (the first Grand Prix race of the season), he snagged 6th place, just seconds off the podium. The next weekend, he placed 6th at Whiskey Off Road. In February, he and Lachlan Morton set a decisive record at 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. Taylor attributes these results to multiple factors, including a brand new approach to training that has put him in the best shape of his career. Without the pressure of having to wrestle for points at all the Grand Prix races this year, he's pursuing an ambitious and varied schedule, including Unbound XL, Leadville, and Vapor Trail.Taylor sat down with Payson in Bentonville this week to talk about missing out on the Grand Prix, why his new training methods might be controversial for some, and why seat tube angle was one of the things he was most excited about when he joined Allied this year. They also talk about the exacting approach to nutrition that helped him win Unbound XL in 2021 and the time he came face-to-face with a mountain lion on a training ride.Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen

This week Clint and Dawson sit down with Katrine Hase. Katrine last summer "2023 set out on her bicycle from Jasper, Alberta Canada to ride to Antelope Wells, New Mexico along the Great Divide. Katrine did this amazing trip because she wanted to do something epic to celebrate her 50th year on the planet and her 10th year of sobriety. What better way than to spend two months in the mountains cycling? With the support of family she sets off on this solo journey. Her journey on the Great Divide is uniquely hers with a few detours along the way to fit her needs and adapt to weather, safety, bike repairs and keep moving forward. Early in her recovery, she realized that she needed to find new social outlets that no longer involved alcohol. She started taking movement classes called Nia, which led her to try ballroom dancing and finally to sign up for an adult ballet class. Luckily, around the time she was hitting limits in dance, she rediscovered biking. Katrina's son was working at a bike shop and starting to get involved in mountain biking. He and Katrina's husband were having a lot of fun on bikes, so eventually she took a leap and purchased a bike of her own. From there, there has been no stopping her. Mountain racing, bike packing and now the Tour Divide. SInce 2019 a few of the events and races she has accomplished. 2019—Won 1st place series age group in citizen category Minnesota Mountain Bike Series; became level 1 certified mountain bike coach and started coaching local mountain bike team • 2020—Completed level 3 coach certification and coached for MCA; competed in women's comp category in Minnesota Mountain Bike Series (Border Crossing race 1st overall women's) • 2021—Won 2nd place series age group for Moab Rocks 3-day stage race; 3rd place age group Giant's Ridge long GRIND; competed in first enduro race in Duluth, MN; completed 100-mile supported 3 day/2 night ride of Maah Daah Hey trail in North Dakota • 2022—3rd place age group Lutsen 69er race.
