In what is (sadly) becoming a weekly segment, this episode starts with talk of the latest installment of npm package takeovers, dubbed Shai Halud as discussed in Slack and analyzed by Paul McCarty and team. Strategies discussed for monitoring packages and preventing malware from entering into organization's products. This is followed by an article referencing security via intentional redundancy when designing sensitive application functionality. Finally, analysis of a recent article from Frankly Speaking that lists a series of new commandments for security teams, which are mostly agreed to by both Seth and Ken, with some caveats.

Have the new revisions to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards gone too far, or not far enough? That's exactly what we discussed in this episode of the Frankly Speaking podcast, in which Richard Howitt was joined by EFRAG TEG members Sandra Atler, also Director of Human Rights & Business Practice at Enact Sustainable Strategies and Signe Lysgaard, also Chief Advisor on Business & Human Rights at the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

This week we speak with businessman Bahaa Hariri, the eldest son of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Twenty years after his father's assassination, and three years after his younger brother quit politics, he says he's ready to return and revive his family's legacy. But can someone who has spent much of his life abroad speak for a nation in collapse? Is Lebanon really looking for another Hariri? Or has it already moved on under new leadership? And what does he make of the recent political change both in Lebanon and beyond?

Marwan Barghouti has spent more than two decades in an Israeli prison. Yet, polls still place him as the most popular Palestinian leader, and a figure that many believe could unite Fatah and Hamas. Earlier this month, he was seen for the first time in years after far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered his cell and taunted him on camera. The footage sparked outrage, not least from his family. On this episode, we speak to his son Arab Barghouti about that moment, his father's enduring influence, and what the path to a Palestinian state looks like today.
What is the relationship between culture and corporate responsibility? How do various social mores and traditions influence how various countries view business and human rights? And what can different nations learn from each other on their sustainability journey? This week on the Frankly Speaking podcast, Richard Howitt was joined by Akiko Sato, Business and Human Rights Project Officer at the United Nations Development Programme and Special Adviser at the NGO Pillar Two to explore the state of responsible business in Japan, from the Edo dynasty to today. Together they discussed the Japanese government's human rights supply chain due diligence guidelines, as well as how companies in Japan have been responding. You'll also hear more about: Japan's leadership in climate disclosure through a record number of signatories to the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) The growing momentum across Asia on corporate accountability, with Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia developing mandatory human rights due diligence laws The traditional Japanese concept of Sanpo-yoshi, meaning “good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for society The role culture plays in shaping how Japanese companies are conducting sustainability reporting and human rights due diligence Why gender inequality is one of Japan's biggest human rights challenges, with Japan ranking among the lowest in the G7 on the gender gap index How Japanese companies have been reacting to the EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive as well as the recent Omnibus proposals Akiko's insights into the lessons the world can take from Japan's sustainability journey Listen in and follow us on LinkedIn and Youtube!

Few people know the pressures of running Israel like Ehud Olmert. He was prime minister during the 2006 Lebanon war, in peace talks with the Palestinians in 2008 and (went) through a political crisis that ended with his resignation on corruption charges. Since leaving office, he has become one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's fiercest critics, calling for him to face trial for war crimes. On this episode, we ask the former prime minister what he really thinks of Israel's current government, its extremist ministers and if Mr. Netanyahu's leadership has pushed Israel into dangerous isolation, even among its closest allies.

Frankly Speaking | Real World Topics With Real World Experts
In this Frankly Speaking episode, host Andra Powell is joined by Dr. Amy Lin and Simon Hall to explore what sustainability truly means in poultry production — with a focus on economics, not just the environment. They discuss how feed accounts for up to 80% of production costs and how improving feed conversion, reducing microbial loads, and implementing feed sanitizers can drive profitability. The conversation highlights actionable strategies producers can implement today, like enhancing biosecurity and tracking feed performance metrics, to create economically sustainable operations that also support bird health and efficiency. It's a must-listen for forward-thinking poultry producers.
