She is the very proud Casting Director of the critically acclaimed web series SUBMISSIONS ONLY and also boasts having cast many other independent TV & film projects, workshops and readings. In 2024, Merri took on some passion projects on the side, as well. These include the highly acclaimed and starry concert production of “FOLLIES” at Carnegie Hall for Transport Group's annual benefit gala, and a reading of a new play at The Actors Studio written by Lyle Kessler (“Orphans”) and directed by Academy Award winner Bobby Moresco – starring Chazz Palminteri, Tim Blake Nelson and Gina Gershon. We would jazz walk a mile or so to see this show. By Anna Ouyang Moench Directed by Les Waters Christmas, but not as you know it. Leave the little ones at home and gather ‘round for a very Playhouse take on Christmas. Your Local Theater Presents: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Again is a laugh-out-loud funny and heartfelt story for theatre lovers and holiday enthusiasts alike. Eddie is a young actor, fresh out of Juilliard and ready to make his mark on the American Theatre. His dreams are within reach… sort of. First he's just going to do this regional production of A Christmas Carol. As the years pass, Eddie finds himself back at the same local theatre, over and over and over again. Much remains the same: the play, the stage manager, the green room — though Eddie finds himself in different costumes as he ages through the male roles over the course of his career. Anna Ouyang Moench is not just an award-winning playwright. Her work as a screenwriter includes Apple TV+'s Severance and the second season of the multi-award-winning Netflix show, Beef. Her comedic and incisive style is on display in this moving new play; a love letter to actors, artists and dreamers of all professions who make sacrifices large and small in service of their work… and ultimately wonder whether it was worth it.

Becky Robbins is native to Colorado where she lived until moving to California to honor both mountains and the ocean. The variety in her career choices have included medicine, the business of creation and development of personal growth and at this time, the business of creating art. Her life choices that have contributed to this endeavor owe to her love of Nature both above and below the sea, of worldwide indigenous cultures, science, music, theater and the exploration of the psychology and spirituality of humans and creatures. Her art became the focus of her life after leaving the personal development business and having a curiosity for all things that have profound depth and interconnectedness in tangible and ethereal ways. Minimal academic art education created the freedom for Becky to immerse in series of art vastly different and unique that have led her to this current expression which is her signature style, while every painting is its own individual world. Her art is informed by her love of adventure travel and back roads experiences chosen to illuminate the land, its creatures, the cultures and their self-expression in both lifestyle and the things they make. This depth of knowledge which is never complete nor permanent is what gives each painting its own voice and keeps Becky returning to the easel as a tool for her own awareness and expansion in her personal life and operating system in the world at large. Her work is experienced in the images portrayed, collaborated at times with other artists and photographers, and in the manner the viewer is taken on a personal journey of their own. Each oil painted piece is a half-year process itself and perceived through the lens of the artist and the world she inhabits. Her current projects include a show created for television called The Art of Art. It's a cinematographic experience seeing individual creators in the process of their craft and it's hosted by Becky. She interviews these masters and ties in those who use the creations. How does paint get in a tube? That question created the trip through the Old Holland Paint Company labs where pigments from the Masters were obtained and are still used to make some of the best oil paints in the world. That episode ends with a tour through the Restoration Department at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in NYC. A visual feast! Another episode stars saddle makers and the intricate process they use and includes the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and how a group is focused on creating indoor arenas for the children to be able to have refuge in the long South Dakota winters, reviving their heritage by learning to ride horses, participating in relay races between tribes and much more. Becky has had remarkable healing experiences after 2 total knee replacement surgeries by using lasers that are unique in the world, created by a unique doctor and is devoted to getting these out into the world to assist others with healing from surgeries, injuries, cognitive decline and more. It's a passion for her to help others achieve the freedom she now has. Becky describes herself as an outdoor person when not in her studio, loves an active lifestyle of skiing, diving, hiking, and and more. An avid learner, she enjoys her guitar, djembe drums, research and discovery. She is an advocate of HeartMath and meditation, her spiritual evolution and care of this planet Earth. She is a devoted supporter of La Jolla Playhouse and Scripps Institute of Oceanography's Birch Aquarium and a program Just Like My Child for Girl Power in Uganda and India. . She treasures her family and lives and works in Del Mar, California.

We would hang for hours from a fly line to see this show. On the Annie to Endgame difficulty scale, this play is about as hard as La Cage Aux Folles. By Sasha Velour and Moisés Kaufman Directed by Moisés Kaufman A Co-Production With Tectonic Theater Project Radical. Magical. Unforgettable. Created by groundbreaking drag artist Sasha Velour (Smoke & Mirrors, NightGowns, The Big Reveal Live Show) and legendary theatre artist Moisés Kaufman (Here There Are Blueberries, The Laramie Project), Velour: A Drag Spectacular is a sweeping, coming-of-age tale interwoven with the radical history of drag and queer expression. Inspired by Velour's origin story as a small-town, genderfluid child turned globally-renowned drag superstar, the show unfolds through a dazzling blend of innovative projection mapping, video animation, awe-inspiring lip-sync performances, and bold personal storytelling. Known for her emotional and shocking performance art, Velour harnesses the power of drag spectacle to reveal her deepest fears (and joys) and puts them on display to immerse the audience in queer fantasia. From the often confusing yet joyous search for belonging, to the deep wells of grief that catapult us to face our inner truths, Velour: A Drag Spectacular is a tour de force, rich with humanity, beauty, and above all else – DRAG.
Brian Stokes Mitchell is a two-time Tony Award-winning actor who has always thought the universe chose him. Born on Halloween when “people dress up in costumes and pretend to be other people”, the stars have indeed decided. Aside from performing, he also writes, dances, produces his own music, and orchestrates, but out of all the things he can do, his best quality is being a really good student. He details his latest project, “HOPE”, realizing that sometimes creative works have their own timing - this video dropping exactly when we need to hear it the most. He presents a profound metaphor about life as a "long sentence" full of commas rather than periods, and what his “dead questions” are. With an upcoming role in “3 Summers of Lincoln” at the La Jolla Playhouse, he recounts how the project deeply resonated with him upon reading the script. Aside from all his projects, he always makes sure to give back to the community–from being chairman of the board for the Entertainment Community Fund for 19 years to providing entertainment from his balcony during the pandemic. Stokes shares how curiosity continues to motivate him, and why we should follow our heart in all our endeavors. Brian Stokes Mitchell is a two-time Tony Award-winning, Drama Desk Award-winning, and Outer Critics Award winning actor. He is renowned for his powerful baritone voice and dynamic stage presence with standout performances in Broadway productions like “Ragtime”, “Kiss Me, Kate”, “Man of La Mancha”, and “Shuffle Along”. He's become a celebrated figure in musical theater, but beyond Broadway, he has showcased his talent on television, including shows like “Vampirina”, “Wolverine”, “Billions”, “Mr. Robot”, and of course, “Trapper John, M. D.” He's also recognized for his philanthropic work, particularly for his 19 years of serving as chairman of the board for the Entertainment Community Fund, and is a member of the Theater Hall of Fame since 2016. We would walk 20 minutes in a rainstorm to see this show. This show is about as challenging as Glass Menagerie. By Noelle Viñas Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg Some storms you can't hide from. A series of intense storms – a “derecho” – is bearing down on an affluent Virginia neighborhood near D.C., where Eugenia Silva is preparing for a crucial meeting. Eugenia is a politician hoping to join the wave of women of color elected to public office. Her sister Mercedes is a struggling musician fighting to find her way on her own terms. As winds rise and thunder cracks — and tensions between the sisters reach a boiling point — Eugenia's political ambitions crash into Mercedes's need to reconnect her sister with their roots.

Carefully Taught: Teaching Musical Theatre with Matty and Kikau
Jessica Humphrey is the President of the Musical Theater Educators' Alliance and an Assistant Professor at Texas Christian University. In this episode we discuss the Musical Theater Common Prescreen Criteria developed in partnership with MTEA, Accptd, and several Musical Theater programs across the country. We also discuss the upcoming MTEA conference in London at the Guilford School of Acting from July 23rd to July 25th, 2024. Her recommendations include: Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution by Todd S. Purdum and getting an “old-fashioned” planner! Jessica is a native of Dallas, Texas and attended Western Carolina University where she received a Bachelors of Music in Musical Theatre. This is where she first started working as a dance captain for Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise and assistant to Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann both on productions and at their summer intensive, Triple Arts. She has continued to assist the husband and wife team until she moved to TCU. Both Terrence and Charlotte directed Jessica in shows such as A Chorus Line (where she eventually took over the role of Cassie when Tony nominated actress Ariana DeBose suffered an injury), Sweeney Todd (Johanna) and Pirates of Penzance (Edith). Jessica went on to work as a dance captain for original Rent dance captain, Owen Johnston and spent two summers as the dance captain for Wild Adventures Theme Park. After graduating in 2011, she moved to New York City where she performed in several regional shows including the regional debut of The Boy from Oz, Cats (Rumpleteazer) and Into the Woods (Little Red). Some other favorite productions have included Dames at Sea (Joan), West Side Story (Anybodys) and Brigadoon (Bonnie Jean). Eventually she decided it was time to further her education and completed her Masters in Musical Theatre at San Diego State University where she received support from the Roscoe-Tiffany MFA Musical Theatre Scholarship and the Marion Ross Scholarship. The program is one of only a few in the nation with a terminal degree in musical theatre, and the only one that has a clear focus on both performance and academia. An important aspect of this program is working on developing new musical theatre works. Jessica worked with Dallas natives in developing the show “On the Eve” and with Tony Award Winner BD Wong and Wayne Barker on the show, “Mister Doctor”. Jessica went on to work with BD and Wayne again in New York, on a new musicalized version of Mister Holland's Opus. Jessica taught classes such as History of Musical Theatre, Acting I, and Musical Theatre performance. While completing her thesis on the evolution of rap in musical theatre, Jessica left California in order to perform in Alaska as Peter in Peter Pan. While flying every night, and completing her thesis, she also worked to choreograph numbers for the Aztec Follies, a cabaret of graduate students filmed for PBS. During her time in grad school, Jessica also worked at the famed La Jolla Playhouse, in the Development Department and the Musical Theatre Archive at SDSU, the largest Musical Theatre Archive west of the Mississippi. After moving back to New York City, where she resided until August 2018, Humphrey worked with organizations such as the Ziegfeld Society, Rosie's Theatre Kids, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. She continues to study voice with the esteemed instructor Andrew Byrne and works as a performer both onstage and in voiceover.

When she's not not behind her computer or visiting the shops in Florida and Houston, our CEO and Founder Jennifer Wheeler Kahn is probably chasing her two boys #InternHudson and #InternJudah around the house, park, library, or museum. Kahn was a professional Stage Manager for 17 years getting to work on such shows as: The Deaf West Revival of Spring Awakening (Broadway), In the Heights (National Tour), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (La Jolla Playhouse and Paper Mill Playhouse), Hold Onto me Darling (Off-Broadway at the Atlantic), Kinship (starring Cynthia Nixon and Christopher Lowell at Williamstown Theatre Festival), and many productions at The Old Globe Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego. Over her last 4 years as a Stage Manager she also ran a blog on giveback and ethical style. SCENERY was born as the love child of these two parts of her heart.
