After the fall of Jericho, Achan defied God's command by secretly concealing forbidden treasure. His private sin led to public loss and the death of others. Contrast that with Rahab—her faith, risky and visible, led to life not just for herself but for her family. Both stories show that our choices can affect others and shape the legacies we leave behind. Like Rahab, someone must stand up as a curse-breaker. Jesus did this for us, providing a heritage we cannot earn but can receive. Looming large on the first horizon of the promised land was the cursed city of Jericho. A seemingly insurmountable obstacle to the fullness of God's blessing.

Send us a textGary Meskil is the founding member and driving force behind Pro-Pain, a prominent hardcore metal band that emerged in the early 1990s. Born in New York City, Meskil's early exposure to the thriving punk and hardcore scenes of the 1980s heavily influenced his musical direction. Prior to forming Pro-Pain, Meskil was a bassist for the hardcore band Crumbsuckers, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the heavy music genre. In 1991, Meskil founded Pro-Pain with the intention of creating a band that combined the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk with the heavy riffing and technical proficiency of metal. Pro-Pain's debut album, Foul Taste of Freedom, released in 1992, was a critical and commercial success within the underground music scene. The album's raw energy, socially conscious lyrics, and Meskil's powerful vocal delivery set the tone for the band's future releases.Pro-Pain quickly gained a reputation for their relentless touring schedule and ferocious live performances. Meskil's leadership and vision were central to the band's success, guiding them through numerous lineup changes while maintaining their core sound and message. The band's music often tackles themes of political and social issues, personal struggles, and resilience, resonating deeply with fans who appreciate the blend of hardcore urgency and metal precision.Over the years, Pro-Pain released a series of influential albums, including The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996), and Act of God (1999). Each release showcased Meskil's growth as a songwriter and his ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of heavy music. The band's sound incorporated elements of groove metal, thrash, and even hints of melodic death metal, ensuring their relevance in a genre known for its rapid shifts and trends.Despite the challenges faced by many bands in maintaining longevity, Pro-Pain has remained a consistent force in the metal and hardcore scenes. Meskil's dedication to his craft and his refusal to compromise the band's integrity have earned Pro-Pain a loyal and passionate fanbase worldwide. The band's relentless work ethic and commitment to their message have solidified their place as one of the enduring acts in heavy music. In 2017, Meskil faced a significant personal challenge when he was brutally attacked and robbed in Belgium while on tour. The incident left him with serious injuries, but his resilience and determination shone through as he recovered and returned to the stage. This episode further highlighted Meskil's unwavering dedication to Pro-Pain and his indomitable spirit.Gary Meskil's impact on the metal and hardcore scenes through Pro-Pain iwww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. After declaring the faith of the Israelites by crossing through the Red Sea, the writer of Hebrews declares their testimony of faith the walls of Jericho falling down by marching around them for seven days. God had clearly been training the Israelites through their forty years in the wilderness so we do not know how many had saving faith. We do know that they trusted in God. They had hope of victory. That they had a good testimony to the nations around them. The marching around Jericho clearly proved that they believed that the invisible controlled the visible. Those things are all evidences of faith, but we have good reason to believe that while they had faith and did it by faith, they did not have the hope of a better country, a heavenly one. They were looking toward an earthly reward, so while they had faith, it doesn't mean that they will receive the reward of heaven. They may have only received the reward that they were pursuing.

Welcome to Celebration Church!
The wall of Jericho falling are a shadow pointing the Lord conquering the kingdom of the world on the last day to establish His eternal kingdom in the eternal promised land. All those who believe and are in union with the true Vine, the true Israel of God which is Christ will after their wilderness journey enter the eternal promised land on the new earth. Now as we live and walk on this earth we are living among the kingdoms of this world. However, on the last day when the wrath of God is poured out, the kingdom of the world will come the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ and He will reign forever. He will destroy the kingdom of the world on the last trumpet and with word coming out of His mouth which is the sharp sword as the walls will fall and He will establish His eternal kingdom. We like Rahab can enter and dwell in the promised land by faith. When the Israelites came to conquer the city, they looked for the scarlet cord in the window of Rahab and by her faith her life was spared, and she could dwell in the land. When the true Israel of God comes on the last day, He will be looking not for a scarlet cord tied in faith, but rather the scarlet blood of the Passover Lamb applied in faith. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

This week we continue our Lent series “Overcome” by looking at the story of Jericho. In this Story, God asks the people to wage war on the city of Jericho in an unconventional manner. One that, on the surface, seems bad. But God's instructions were less about the actions themselves and more about asking the people to have faith. How often does this happen in our lives? What does it mean when God calls us into situations that don't make sense? How can we show faith in moments like that?

God's WORDS are mighty WEAPONS with Divine Power to pull down enemy strongholds, including fear. Derek illustrates this through the Pirate Warfare of 2Corinthians 10:4-6, and the destruction of Joshua's Jericho through the WORD of FAITH, which was necessary for Israel to enter her Promised Land (likewise to enter our Promised Land we must pull down the strongholds that stand in the way). Jesus said, we can remove the mountains of enemy opposition to the will of God by declaring His WORD, and believing that what we say will come to pass, by the the power of God's Spirit released through our words (Mark 11:23, Zechariah 4:6-9).

One of the great miracles of the Bible is how the walls of Jericho came tumbling down, when all of Israel shouted together in faith. This book, filled with photographs from Jericho, demonstrates how the archaeology of Jericho perfectly confirms the Bible account. Moreover, it shows how God's destruction of Jericho is a type of God's future judgement of this world-system, as well as revealing the keys we need to successfully posses our Promised Land today. This book is available from Amazon and from www.oxfordbiblechurch.co.uk

Promise yourself a life-altering journey as we traverse the biblical story of Joshua and Jericho, illuminating rich Christian heritage and our unique place in this world. Picture yourself as a warrior, with Jericho's king symbolizing your desires and will, its mighty men embodying your defense mechanisms resisting truth. Just like Joshua's men encircled the city for six days, we highlight God's presence consistently surrounding us, His will unfailingly coming to fruition.Imagine being called to share God's word, a lone individual or a crowd. Embrace the urgency, the intent, mirroring Joshua's warning of impending divine wrath. The trumpet's sound on the seventh day, the crumbling walls of sin and death, inspires us to comprehend our roles as God's priests, and the unrelenting necessity to broadcast the gospel. In the end, an inspiring call awaits you, stirring courage in the face of adversity and faithfulness to God's mission, much like Joshua himself. Picture Jesus as your Joshua, spurring us all to preach the gospel and baptize humankind in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Allow God's love to provoke and persuade, to trust His promises. So lend us your ears, let these practical lessons from the Bible story make a world of sense in your life.Support the show

This sermon was preached by Rev. Pen Peery on August 20, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. Scripture: Joshua 6:15-21
It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. Taught at Agape Bible Church on June 25, 2023. [45 minutes]
Fr. Anthony & Taylor kick off the show with some Italian stereotypes & two great moments for God's chosen people in the Old Testament: The parting of the Red Sea & the Battle of Jericho. We promise you've never heard the Jericho story like this! Next, Fr. Anthony actually did some show prep so that we can play Fancy Catholic Words. The good priest gives Taylor some words that only fancy Catholics would know and he has to guess what they mean. Can you do any better than Taylor did? They close the show with a conversation about leadership, failure & improving after Taylor was inspired by a recent Malcolm Gladwell story.
