Interview by Kris PetersBrisbane/Meanjin metalcore outfit Wildheart have let their music do the talking from the outset, unafraid to tackle sensitive issues and even less distracted by the myriad of smokescreens that are rapidly punctuating the music scene as a whole.Their debut album Global Crisis – a body of work that drew attention and respect to a number of issues affecting Indigenous Australians – was named Gold Coast Music Awards Release Of The Year, also earning them a number of other awards and accolades. Not content to rest on their laurels, Wildheart followed that up last year with the brilliant single Sacred Ground before launching into 2024 with a new track Death Is All That's Left.HEAVY sat down recently with Andrew (drums) and Adam (guitar) to talk more about the exciting future for Wildheart. Death Is All That's Left was premiered via HEAVY last month, so we start by asking how the early reception has been."The reception has been awesome," Andrew smiled. "We've gotten a lot of positive reviews and comments and a lot of traction online and sharing across all the platforms. We started up a TikTok and that's been going well, so we're really happy with the response and feedback we've got. I feel like with every release we work on we're stepping it up a notch, and it felt good that it was recognised."We ask the boys to dive deeper into the track musically."We really just wanted to hone in on some more of my metalcore influence," Adam offered. "So channelling a lot of Lost Together, Lost Forever era Architects, older Parkway Drive… there's a bit of Bury Your Dead and stuff like that mixed in there too, but we wanted to write something fast and heavy."In the full interview the boys discuss the lyrical content of Death Is All That's Left and the message they are trying to get across, if they think the message is getting through with music, having a song featured on Friday Night AFL Footy, previous single Sacred Ground, if the two songs are stand-alone singles or part of something bigger, possible future musical directions, upcoming shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

As Daylight Dies, «The Arms of Sorrow».

You know when someone introduces you to a band and you instantly fall for them? You love their music, members, style and purpose and dedicate your life promoting them as much as you can! That's how we felt with I Prevail who burst onto the scene a few years back covering a Taylor Swift song, BUT, the difference between them and others who were doing it at the time was they had a vast array of heavy/melodic music behind them to not just be known for that cover. From there, they've escaped the comparisons and have set out on their own, dominating the world and this week we're chatting to guitarist Dylan Bowman all about their achievements (and struggles) so far. From selling out their ENTIRE Australian Debut Tour to almost losing their clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser to a pretty traumatic (pun intended) vocal injury, to now, on the eve of the release of their second studio album, we go into detail about everything they've faced along the way and how they'll never give up in their fight. Podcast host Browny also takes a look at the news surrounding Static-X's reforming and Memorial Tribute for Wayne Static, the former frontman and namesake of the band ahead of their Worldwide Anniversary Tour and new album Project Regeneration. Plus there's plenty of New Music to get through from Liberties, Red Handed Denial, Windwaker, The Beautiful Monument, The Last Martyr, Dealer, Jinjer and Bury Your Dead and more... #WoSUATW #IPrevail #DylanBowman #Trauma #BowDown #Metalcore #Liberties #TheWordAlive #RedHandedDenial #Windwaker #TheBeautifulMonument #TheAmityAffliction #AmityAffliction #TheLastLartyr #BuryYourDead #Dealer #Hardcore #StaticX #Jinjer #DevinTownsend #MusicPodcast #Podcast #WallOfSoundAU

Kaytee and Meredith are so excited to get back into our discussion this week that we have a hard time keeping our bookish opinions to ourselves. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of the hosts: meeting a book resolution and a happy abundance of book mail. Next, we discuss our current reads. We have some very seriously large opinions about our books this week. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like for Meredith to get spicy, you’re in luck! This episode was recorded on Valentine’s Day, so… since we had love on the brain, we took a left turn and went with a deep dive on things we “hate” about books! As always, we finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) - but this week is a couple of great series - that we’d like to press into every reader’s hands: these books have been mentioned over and over again on the podcast, but due to some heinous oversight, we haven’t ever pressed them into your hands! "It's a very heavy record and has a song for everybody I guess," proclaimed frontman for Bad Wolves, Tommy Vext, ahead of their eagerly anticipated debut album, Disobey on May 11. "I think we really individually and collectively wanted to go into this record and recording process to make something that was greater than the sum of all of its parts. We were really influenced by bands like Faith No More and System of a Down and so we took a lot of risks. Some of the songs are super, super heavy and some of the songs are very progressive and some of them are just straight up rock songs. We obviously did a cover of The Cranberries song 'Zombie', which everyone is really responding well to. We have a ballad on the record and we have everything from rock to death metal wrapped up into one band with one sound so that's gonna be interesting. With members that have played in bands such as Divine Heresy, God Forbid, Devildriver, Bury Your Dead, In This Moment, Scar the Martyr, Vimic and Snot, Bad Wolves is the epitome of the often bandied around term supergroup, not that Vext embraces the title warmly."I don't really... what is a supergroup? Do you put Audioslave in the category and someone like Giraffes on Orchestra?" he questioned. Predominantly supergroups aren't good bands. I think Velvet Revolver is another but I think that the difference is supergroups are bands where everybody in the band comes from massive commercial success whereas we're pretty straight up underground heavy metal artists who have had success in their career, obviously, but never like this."Tune in to the audio to hear Vext discuss the bands trajectory over the last twelve months, in-depth take on the 'Zombie' cover and how the band went about reworking the tune, the difficulties faced by newer bands in the modern market - including one such as Bad Wolves and get to meet each band member and what they bring to the table. Also, keep an ear out for Bad Wolves debut album, Disobey, out May 11.Kris Peters

Topics discussed: Listener album recommendations during Who's Tweeting; Did Jada play Slayer for Tupac?; recording a record where money is no object, Jada as a rock singer, “Known for repeating the word ‘shit' 20 times”, Will Smith loves Bury Your Dead, Ozzfest 2005, talking about something you've heard vs something you have actually had happen to you, “I can actually handle this”, the importance of being a little dumb, a “get the fuck up” moment, refilling the spank bank, and most importantly, deciding if Wicked Wisdom is worthy of the Nu-Metal Canon. Mark your calendars for the first Roach Koach Podcast live show, Wednesday June 7th 2017, 9pm at Go Comedy Improv Theater in Ferndale MI. Tickets on sale soon! Like the show?
