When is the last time you did something that genuinely scared you?In Week 1 of Uncharted, we begin our journey through the book of Joshua and discover a truth we desperately need in today's world: courage isn't the absence of fear—it's trusting God enough to take the next step anyway. As Joshua stands on the edge of the Promised Land following the death of Moses, God gives him a simple but powerful command: "Be strong and courageous." Why? Because the source of our courage isn't found in ourselves—it's found in the presence of God.If you're facing uncertainty, a difficult decision, a step of faith, or a season where the future feels unclear, this message is for you.You don't have to be fearless to be faithful. You just have to trust that the One who goes before you is bigger than what lies ahead.

Send us Fan MailA lot of end-times teaching sounds harmless until you follow its logic all the way to the cross. We dig into dispensationalism and its core claim that Jesus arrived to set up a political kingdom, got rejected, and then introduced a “church age” as an interlude before trying again later. If that story is true, it changes everything about how you read the gospels, the purpose of Calvary, and what it means to call Jesus King.We work through the Bible texts people argue over, and we don't skip the uncomfortable implications. If Christ's original mission was an earthly throne in Jerusalem, then his execution starts to look like a legitimate response to sedition. We explain why that conclusion is unacceptable for orthodox Christianity and why the gospel has no Plan B. Then we anchor the discussion in Scripture: Joshua 21's declaration that Israel received what God promised, and Daniel 9:24's six outcomes that point to completion in Christ's death and resurrection, not a postponed prophecy that props up a future seven-year tribulation or a pre-tribulation rapture. We also touch the modern history behind the Scofield Reference Bible, the way political narratives can ride on theological claims, and why tribulation is not just a future countdown but the normal pressure the church has faced for centuries. The through-line is simple: Christ's atonement is the center, God's Word is complete, and any system that sidelines the cross or delays the kingdom should be tested and rejected. If you care about dispensationalism, pre-trib rapture teaching, the Daniel 70th week, the millennium, and the relationship between Israel and the church, this conversation gives you categories and texts you can actually use. • Scripture: Joshua 1:1-2 • Context: Following the death of Moses, God speaks directly to Joshua, his servant. God commands Joshua to rise and lead the "sons of Israel" across the Jordan River into the land He is giving them. • Overarching Theme: Following last week's theme ("Israel is a chosen people"), this week's theme is: Israel is a physical people. • Main Idea: The phrase "sons of Israel" refers to a real, historical people with a tangible history. Their journey spans centuries of God's providence and thousands of miles of physical land, beginning with Abram's journey from Ur to Canaan—a journey of over 3,000 miles that took decades. This demonstrates the immense faith Abraham had in God's promise. We must understand these Old Testament narratives as accounts of real, physical humans, not myths.
Does it matter whether we feel sorry when we ask for forgiveness? In this conversation, Rabbi Dr. Joshua Berman returns to discuss the surprising findings of his long-term research into forgiveness in the Hebrew Bible. The biblical word slicha (“forgiveness”) appears only in relation to God—not between people. In fact, there is no word for “apology” in biblical Hebrew. So how were offenses resolved? Drawing on honor culture studies and examples ranging from Jacob and Esau to Judah and Tamar, Dr. Berman argues that ancient Israel operated within a different moral economy. Reconciliation was not primarily about emotional sincerity or repairing inner feelings—it was about restoring public order and status. Offense disrupted hierarchy; reconciliation restored it. From duels between Hamilton and Burr to modern military and team dynamics, Berman shows how deeply culture shapes what we mean by “forgiveness.” The result is a paradigm shift that challenges modern Western assumptions about apology, sincerity, and moral transformation. The conversation concludes with the launch of Dr. Berman's new podcast, The Bible Bar, dedicated to exploring Scripture chapter by chapter with intellectual and spiritual integrity. As one year closes and another opens before us, many of us feel a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty. The calendar turns, but questions remain. What will 2026 hold for our families, our church, and our faith? In Joshua 1, God speaks into a moment very much like ours. Moses is gone. A new chapter has begun. The future feels weighty, and the responsibility before Joshua is enormous.Into that moment, God does not begin with a detailed plan or a list of guarantees. Instead, He gives a repeated command that echoes through the passage. Be strong and courageous. This call is not rooted in Joshua's personality or experience, but in something far deeper. It rests on what God has promised, on the assurance of God's presence, and on the call to live by God's word.As we prepare to enter 2026, we need the same foundation. Strength and courage do not come from confidence in ourselves or from knowing what lies ahead. They come from trusting the God who keeps His promises, who goes with His people wherever they go, and who calls them to walk faithfully according to His truth. This passage invites us to step forward into the new year anchored in Him.Scripture: Joshua 1:1-9Speaker: Pastor David Hallett

In the Middle Ages, theologians said there are different forms of gluttony—that you can eat and drink excessively, sumptuously, daintily, or impulsively. Technically, gluttony means to eat and drink immoderately. But gluttony also tells us something about each of us. Gluttony is taking something good and then cramming it in until we're sick of it. Our desires are disordered so that good and necessary things become cravings. Sin, in other words, makes us all addicted to something. We all crave something, and we do it in such a way that it is very, very bad for us. Let's look at three things this Scripture teaches us about craving: 1) the depth of our craving, 2) the structure of our craving, and 3) the healing. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on March 5, 1995. Series: The Seven Deadly Sins. Scripture: Joshua 7:19-26, Hosea 2:13-15. SCRIPTURE: Joshua 10:12-14SHOW NOTES: For your spiritual journey, please visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, to access additional Bible study resources. We are excited to explore the prayers of individuals in the Bible in our new series, The Power of Prayer. Today, we will look closely at Joshua 10:12-14. A faithful leader offered a bold prayer. God heard his request, suspended the laws of nature, and granted the Israelites a miraculous victory! "At that time, Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance on their enemies." Joshua 10:12-13The prayer of Joshua serves as a powerful expression of faith, showcasing a wise leader and illustrating God's sovereignty and divine intervention. God answered Joshua's prayer by causing the sun and moon to stand still. This prolonged the day and allowed the Israelites to achieve their victory. Do you often "talk to the Lord?” Joshua had a close, personal relationship with the Lord and communicated with Him openly! We can learn valuable lessons from Joshua's life. Scripture: Joshua 14:5-15 Dear Church, The Bible is a dangerous book. The word of God is power (see Romans 1:16) and power is neutral. As my old New Testament professor used to say, ‘the same electricity that toasts your bread can kill you dead!' Power itself isn't inherently good or bad. But the power of … Continue reading "Seeds of Faith-Week 4 // Carry the Promise // Pastor Kate Murphy"

Shownotes Do you ever feel unequipped to handle life and all it throws you? Sometimes walking in grief means being brave enough to move forward even when you don't feel prepared. Today's episode navigates through the bible passages of Joshua 1:1-9. Andrea looks at the story of Joshua after the death of Moses. This story reminds us that God equips us even in the midst of our grief and even goes before us to prepare the way. Listen in and explore this beautiful scripture that gives hope even in our moments of darkness. Scripture Joshua 1:1-9 Divine Promise of Assistance. 1 After Moses, the servant of the LORD, had died, the LORD said to Moses' aide Joshua, son of Nun: 2 * Moses my servant is dead. So now, you and the whole people with you, prepare to cross the Jordan to the land that I will give the Israelites. 3 a Every place where you set foot I have given you, as I promised Moses. 4 * All the land of the Hittites, from the wilderness and the Lebanon east to the great river Euphrates and west to the Great Sea, will be your territory.b 5 No one can withstand you as long as you live. As I was with Moses, I will be with you:c I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and steadfast, so that you may give this people possession of the land I swore to their ancestors that I would give them. 7 d Only be strong and steadfast, being careful to observe the entire law which Moses my servant enjoined on you. Do not swerve from it either to the right or to the left, that you may succeed wherever you go. 8 Do not let this book of the law depart from your lips. Recite it by day and by night,e that you may carefully observe all that is written in it; then you will attain your goal; then you will succeed. 9 I command you: be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go. Journaling Questions 1. Why does grief sometimes feel like a burden to take on responsibilities? Jesus, thank you that you are with me wherever I may go. Scripture: Joshua 1:9Keywords: Best of, Summer.
Many of you have probably heard of the battle of Jericho. But you probably didn't know about what happens in these first three verses. These verses make all the difference. Jericho was a huge city, a fortified city, and humanly speaking, an impossible city for the Israelites to handle. It's important to remember that this is not the first time Joshua has been to Jericho. In this passage, Joshua goes out all by himself and looks at it. He's remembering something that happened 40 years before. When he gets out there, he has this amazing encounter with God. There are three lessons we draw from this passage: 1) this is Jesus, 2) Jesus is absolutely holy, and 3) Jesus had a drawn sword.
