There was no denying the popularity of rave and techno in the UK in 1991, and Stock and Waterman went all clubby as the year drew to a close — with help from some key collaborators. DJs Paul Taylor and Danny Bennett (aka Danny Hibrid) from Angels nightclub visited PWL to work with Tony King on remixing Kylie Minogue album track "I Guess I Like It Like That". The result: a completely new single, "Keep On Pumpin' It", which came out in its own right. Paul and Tony tell the story of this club classic, which was issued to clubs as a white label ahead of its commercial release. Meanwhile, the unlikely pairing of Malcolm McLaren and Alison Limerick were brought together to work with SW on "Magic's Back", the theme song to Malcolm's documentary, The Ghosts Of Oxford Street. Alison talks about the project and her own run of '90s club classics, like "Where Love Lives", "Make It On My Own" and "Time Of Our Lives". This dynamic pairing wasn't exactly planned, as on the day of the interview I was so sick with Long Covid symptoms I could barely speak, so dear Miranda stepped in and saved the day. I wanted to have Sophie on as my guest as I was really interested in her book, The Hungover Games, which is a memoir about how she was jolted into adulthood as a single mother by accidentally falling pregnant in LA after a one night stand, and how she has coped with being situated outside of family norms by "having some of the pages missing." There is so much negative representation of single motherhood, so I wanted to celebrate Sophie and her book, and also make those women listening to this show – and all people – who also feel like they sit outside the dominant narrative to feel heard and seen. Where Love Lives is basically a middle finger to societal expectations of femininity and normative notions of how we can find happiness and joy in our lives. I had the honor of DJ'ing and coordinating music online for Out Magazine's 20th anniversary celebration, which took place on October 9th, 2012 at the W Hotel in Hollywood and the experience was an absolute blast.  For anyone who wasn't able to attend, I am posting my live set right here on podomatic. I’m uploading this in December 2009. I’ve stumbled upon a box of old mix tapes from the mid 90s and this one’s a corker, full of main room peak time vocal anthems. According to my scribbles on the inlay card (pictures attached to the file) I originally mixed this for Tony Mellor after a lost weekend at The Fridge in London. It may have been Pride weekend when I travelled down with Chris Buckley, Mark & Darren. Anyway, I remember mixing this on a sunny day in my flat in Chorlton.Highlights include the opening pumped-up version of Where Love Lives, Moné’s Movin’, and The Happy Clappers’ Can’t Help Myself.
