Garry Ridge is the CEO and Chairman of the WD-40 Company. He joined WD-40 Company in 1987 and has worked directly with WD-40 Company in over 50 countries, and he was elected as its CEO and Chairman in 1997. Garry is passionate about empowering organizational culture that he has helped establish at the WD-40 Company. He also co-authored the book, Helping People Win at Work: A Business Philosophy Called "Don't Mark My Paper, Help Me Get an A" with Ken Blanchard where he outlines his effective leadership techniques. In this episode… 70% of people who go to work every day are either disengaged in acting or actively disengaged. Why? According to Garry Ridge, it’s because many CEOs have become soul-sucking to their employees and have created toxic environments that inhibit their people from becoming the best they can be. And he says that servant leadership is the only way to go for company leaders who want their team members to reach their maximum potential. Garry is incredibly passionate about organizational culture. He does not only share this through his Executive Coaching, Speaking, and Consulting, he's been able to establish it at WD-40 Company, where he has been CEO and Chairman of the Board since 1997.  Listen to Garry Ridge as he shares the leadership principles behind his success at the helm of WD-40 Company in this episode of Inspired Insider podcast with Dr. Jeremy Weisz. Tune in as Garry discusses how and why servant leadership has been the abiding principle that has helped him and other business leaders succeed, why he considers his role as CEO as his purpose and not merely his job, and the keynotes companies need to take note of if they want to expand internationally.

There’s a bit of post-2016 election PTSD among American political strategists, where any slight uptick in Trump’s polling numbers is perceived as an emergency situation for the Biden campaign. But despite the almost constant news cycle turbulence in American politics that would have caused big swings in a normal presidential election, the polls have remained relatively stable over the past few months. Biden remains in a clear and comfortable lead over Trump on practically every policy issue except for the economy. Why? According to Sarah, “It’s because of the referendum effect, and it’s because of the wild partisanship moment we’re in right now.” How stable are these divisions that have emerged? Hyper-partisanship isn’t going anywhere as we approach the presidential election, and as David reminds us in today’s episode, “these identities are cementing at the state level as well.” After going deep into the weeds on the latest presidential polls, our podcast hosts delve into the temperamental differences between city life and suburbia, the president’s memorandum on combating lawlessness in America’s cities, and a primer on time, place, and manner restrictions on the First Amendment. Show Notes: -The Sweep: Midweek Mop-Up with Dave Kochel, Fox New polls in Arizona, North Carolina and Wisconsin, CNN poll, Suffolk University/USA Today poll. -David’s forthcoming book Divided We Fall: America's Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation and Trump’s memorandum on “Combating Lawlessness In America’s Cities,” a very important city council meeting speech about boneless chicken wings, and a documentary on the dreaded man cold.

Why Aren't We Talking More About Voice Post COVID-19? #915

Over the years, I've spoken a lot about how Voice could very likely become the User Interface of the Future. You only had to look at the boom in smart speakers and voice-connected everything to understand that. So when I first realised that close contact and touch was going to be the enemy in the post COVID-19 world, I figured this would be the real watershed moment for Voice. But so far, it hasn't happened. Why? According to world-renowned Voice expert Brian Roemmele, there are two reasons.. 1. We've reached the edge of the Voice technology. 2. Innovation in Voice (as with many things) has stalled due to the global lockdowns. Interestingly, Brian thinks this crisis may actually prove to be a setback for Voice, rather than a springboard. I hope not. Check out Brian Roemmele on Twitter - https://twitter.com/BrianRoemmele #voicetechnology #voiceinterface #voice

Show #764   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 30th April 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA Q1 2020 EARNINGS CALL SUMMARY   Tesla just released its Q1 2020 earnings report and for the first time ever, the automaker reports a Q1 profit. The main financial details from the Q1 2020 report are as follows: $5.985 billion in revenue Profit of $0.09 per share   MODEL Y In early Q1, we began production of Model Y in Fremont, using a combination of new production lines as well as shared capacity with Model 3. Our simplified and scalable approach to manufacturing is starting to take effect. We were able to build more Model Y vehicles in its first quarter of production than in the first two quarters of Model 3 in 2017. Model Y production also exceeded the first quarter of production of Model 3 in Shanghai, demonstrating continued improvements in program execution. Additionally, we achieved positive gross margin for Model Y in its first production quarter.   REVENUE In Q1, we reached our highest ever revenue for a seasonally slower first quarter as our total revenue grew 32% YoY. Sequentially, our revenue was mainly impacted by lower deliveries, driven primarily by limitations on our ability to deliver vehicles towards the end of the quarter. As expected, our average selling price (ASP) declined further as our mix continues to shift from Model S and Model X to the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y.       "Tesla’s net income for Q1 was small—just $16 million. Revenue for the quarter came in at $5.99 billion—higher than the $5.8 billion and slight loss that had been expected, but still down 19% from the previous quarter.  While those financials revealed in its Q1 report—and its first-ever Q1 profit in this difficult time—are a surprise to Wall Street, many of the numbers found on the rest of Tesla’s report, which precedes a quarterly call with analysts and investors later today, closely followed what was reported earlier. Despite the shutdowns, Tesla also had its best Q1 ever in terms of vehicles produced." according to Green Car Reports: "On a 12-month trailing basis, Tesla claims that its deliveries are nearing 400,000—reflecting its strong growth in 2019—and it noted that “installed capacity” at its Fremont factory will extend to 500,000 this year.  Tesla also revealed that it “achieved positive gross margin for Model Y in its first production quarter.” In other words it’s already making a profit on the Model Y—a first for any model from the company at such an early stage.  Model Y deliveries from the company’s Gigafactory Berlin are anticipated in 2021, and Tesla also plans to eventually make Model Y in Shanghai."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1128002_tesla-aims-to-scale-up-model-y-after-profitable-q1-but-delays-semi-deliveries-to-2021   "Tesla currently sits on $8.1 billion in cash, which should help the company weather the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Tesla Model Y production has also outpaced the initial ramp of the Made-in-China Model 3. This is a notable feat considering the fact that Tesla China’s Model 3 ramp is already far quicker than the company’s push for the sedan in Fremont." says Teslarati: "Elon did admit that he is a bit worried about the Fremont factory’s ongoing shutdown. He reiterates his recent controversial points on Twitter, criticizing the ongoing lockdown procedures in the Bay Area. He did state that it is not only Tesla that is at risk with the ongoing shutdown, as other companies are also in crisis now."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-tsla-q1-2020-earnings-call-updates-live-blog/   Fred's take from Electrek: "A surprise little profit is nice, but I think the best news in the results is an automotive gross margin of 25.5% and even positive gross margin on the Model Y. Both very impressive results. As for the bad news, it’s definitely the negative cash flow, which was to be expected due to Tesla producing about 15,000 cars that they couldn’t deliver at the end of the quarter due to limited operations amid the shelter-in-place orders. It increased its inventory significantly."   https://electrek.co/2020/04/29/tesla-tsla-q1-2020-results/   TESLA SOLD UNDER 150,000 MODEL 3S IN LAST 4 QUARTERS IN THE U.S. "By the way of presenting the market potential for the Model Y, Tesla unknowingly revealed also the sales results for the Model 3 in the U.S. market." says InsideEVs: "We say unknowingly because obviously the company has the data, but doesn't want to report it to the public. Frankly, many other manufacturers also don't want to do it. The Q1 financial report shows us an interesting chart, which shows that during the last four quarters (Q2'2019 - Q1'2020) the company delivered under 150,000 Model 3 in the U.S. Taking into consideration previous data released by Tesla as well as other sources and IEVs' estimations, we assume that the U.S. sales of the Model 3 amounted in Q1 to about 18,000 (20% down year-over-year). Sales of the Tesla Model Y (which started in March) are estimated at above 3,000. We assume 3,200. Tesla also wrote that "We were able to build more Model Y vehicles in its first quarter of production than in the first two quarters of Model 3 in 2017." This means the production for sure was above 2,685."   https://insideevs.com/news/419303/4-quarters-us-tesla-model-3-sales/   AFTER MODEL Y TEARDOWN, TESLA TALKS ABOUT CAST PARTS IN Q1 2020 UPDATE "Tesla says the Model 3 has 70 stamped parts for its rear underbody. It also confirms the Model Y has only castings for that structure, but it names only two. This is possibly because the company does not consider the bracket that joins them as relevant. Anyway, it is also cast." repoorts InsideEVs: "The promise contained in the Q1 2020 Update is that the two castings will be “eventually a single piece.” Sandy Munro mentioned in a recent video Elon Musk had promised that."   https://insideevs.com/news/419266/tesla-model-y-cast-parts-q1-2020/   TESLA MODEL 3 REACHES #1 IN EUROPE " The European passenger plug-in vehicle market had 84,000 registrations in March (+41% year over year/YoY), a great performance considering the effect that several lockdowns across the continent have had. Furthermore, this is while the overall auto market was crashing (-52% YoY), inflating last month’s plug-in vehicle share to an amazing 9.9% (6% fully electric vehicles/BEVs)." writes CleanTechnica: "The usual end-of-quarter flood came for the world’s electromobility poster child, with 16,121 deliveries, giving the sports sedan its first European Best Seller title in 2020. The rabbit out of Tesla’s hat last month was the UK, with the Californian registering a record 4,718 units there, but that wasn’t the only 4-digit performance, as 2,034 deliveries were recorded in Germany, 1,385 units in France (a new record), 1,339 in the Netherlands, and a best ever 1,084 units in Sweden."   Have a look at Jose Pointes and his ev-sales blog.   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/04/30/tesla-model-3-reaches-1-in-europe-as-europe-reaches-10-market-share-march-2020/   EPA DENIES ELON MUSK'S CLAIMS OVER TESLA MODEL S RANGE TEST "The Environmental Protection Agency has rebuffed comments Tesla CEO Elon Musk made concerning what he calls an error during the Model S Long Range's testing process, which the executive says cost the car a 400-mile range estimate. The agency tells Roadshow it conducted the testing properly." according to CNET: "Musk said the Model S Long Range should boast a 400-mile range estimate, but instead, the EPA gave it a 391-mile estimate. Why? According to the CEO, at some point during the testing process, someone left the keys inside the car and the door open overnight. The Model S entered a "waiting for driver" mode, which depleted 2% of the EV's range, hence the sub-400-mile rating."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/elon-musk-tesla-model-s-epa-400-mile-ev/   TESLA CONFIRMS SELF-DRIVING AS A SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE BUT BRACE YOURSELF FOR THE PRICE "Tesla has confirmed that it will offer its Full Self-Driving package (FSD) as a subscription service, but you should brace yourself for the price." says electrek. Elon Musk said: "“I think we will offer Full Self-Driving as a subscription service, but it will be probably towards the end of this year. “I should say, it will still make sense to buy FSD as an option as in our view, buying FSD is an investment in the future. And we are confident that it is an investment that will pay off to the consumer – to the benefit of the consumer. In my opinion, buying FSD option is something people will not regret doing.”"   Over $100 dollars a month.   https://electrek.co/2020/04/30/tesla-self-driving-subscription-service-price/     QUESTION OF THE WEEK   What car have you driven in your lifetime you would love to be able to convert to EV?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 233 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. The Parables of JesusThe Parable of the SoilJune 24, 2018    Introduction:This morning we begin a new series on the parables of Jesus. As many of you know the text that we asked everyone to join us in memorizing is “This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”  Matthew 13:35 (ESV)I want to point your attention to the fact that just prior to verse 35, verse 34 says, “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.” Why? According to the text we are memorizing together its to reveal hidden truth! So for the next several weeks we are going to study these parables. Let’s get started his morning by reading for the sake of time some select verses from Matthew 13.Text:Matt 13:1-9, 18-23That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop — a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 He who has ears, let him hear." 18 "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22 The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23 But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." NIVLet’ first observe the parts and pieces of the parable:There is the farmer of the sower, there is the seed, there are birds that came devouring the seed and then there is the different types or kinds of soil.Notice the sower and seed is constant, that is they never change. It is only the soil conditions, where the seed fell that is different. In this parable Jesus is primarily focusing the conditions of the heart. This morning my prayer is that each of us will ask and answer what is the condition of my heart? Where am I in this parable? What type of soil represents my spiritual development and journey with Jesus? Soo let’s examine the text with this in mind. The first type of soil or heart condition that Jesus refers to is the soil…I.      Along the Path – A Heart that is Harden (Matthew 13:18-19) "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

To start this conversation, is there a difference between the cheap Ring™ doorbell that I have and love versus a true security system? Ryan says there is one really marked difference. While the Ring™ doorbells are great for some applications, the video footage is not court admissible in the State of Colorado. This means that if someone steals something from your front porch, you cannot use the footage in court. Why? According to Ryan, Ring™ doorbells do not meet two requirements of Colorado state law to be used in court. The first is a time and date stamp. And the second is a watermark. The watermark proves that the video has not been tampered with. “Ring doorbells do not meet two requirements of Colorado state law to be used in court.” Which would you rather have? Brian thinks that the court admissible option is better. Also, the Ring™ system is a monthly service and therefore requires a monthly fee for storage. Meanwhile, Ryan tells us that an actual security system will not require a monthly fee and will record high-quality, HD images which can be viewed through an app. If you are considering which security system you want, you should contact Ryan at WatchPoint Security by calling (719) 579-6540 or online at watchpointdata.com. EP 23: MOTIVATION MYTHS: JEFF HADEN ON PROCESS VS. PASSION

Does motivation - or the lack of motivation - have to stop us from achieving our goals? On this podcast, I talk with Jeff Haden. Jeff runs Blackbird Media, is a top a LinkedIn Influencer--making him a part of an exclusive, invitation-only, global collective of 500+ of the world’s foremost thinkers, leaders, and innovators--a contributing editor to Inc., and the author of his latest book, The Motivation Myth: How High Achievers Really Set Themselves Up to Win.   When it comes to motivation, we are going to address two broad bucket applications: you have a desirable goal / task you want to achieve OR you have an undesirable goal / task you need (have to) to achieve. It doesn’t matter which bucket your goal falls into, the truth is, whether we want to do something or not, many of us have a hard time starting, or, once we start, a harder time completing it. Many of you set new year’s resolutions that you haven't even attempted to reach. Why? According to Jeff, the reason has to do with how we prioritize a goal. Most of us keep our eyes firmly fixed on the “prize”: the sixty pounds to lose, the 26 miles of a marathon, the 50,000 word novel we’ll have finished writing. We become fixated on the dream of what we'll earn at the end of the climb, and compare each day’s results to that big payoff. Annie Duke, in her book "Thinking In Bets" has a name for this: Outcome Junkie. Redefining Success Jeff advocates for process orientation and redefining achievement to be more inclusive, so that even if you don't reach the end goal, that process, if you’ve work it, will have still benefited you by providing takeaways you didn’t have when you began. You will meet people you would have never met. You'll make connections that you'd never would have made. You might find some other interests that you never knew you would have. Jeff has not only met with great people who have achieved their dreams, such as tennis star Venus Williams, but has spent untold hours applying his motivational principles to himself. What did he learn? A goal isn’t worth a hill of beans if it doesn’t inform one’s process. “...started me thinking ok, if that's how successful people do it, how do you create a process for basically anyone to follow to achieve anything that they would like to achieve?” - Jeff Haden While many people ascribe to the “dream it, believe it, do it,” goal achievement philosophy, Jeff opts instead for creating cycles of motivation fulfillment. Priming the pump In our conversation Jeff goes into detail on how an emphasis on action brings about a result, which in turn breeds motivation for more action and thus more results. He goes into detail to show how strategic, action-based planning can help someone struggling to achieve results in both areas described above: those who have tasks they want to complete and tasks they don’t want to be doing, but need to get done nonetheless. Jeff also gives some great tips on how to find a dream or goal if you’re drawing up blank when asked the question, “What would you do if you could do anything?” Jeff emphasizes that his motivation techniques can help anyone, no matter what their starting place might be. Having spoken to numerous high achievers like Richard Branson, he realizes that they are all merely humans like us, who used planned motivational strategies to push themselves far. Therefore, Jeff asserts, we can do the same. Oh and by the way, Jeff gives some super good advice on how to reinvent yourself. Want to break into an industry you have no experience in? Listen to Jeff's backstory, he walks me through how he did it.  So, tired of starting and then giving up for lack of motivation? Ready to get those new year's resolutions back on track? Click on the podcast above to access Jeff’s tips for beating procrastination and other motivation sappers, so that you can finally cross items off your to-do list. Enjoy!

What Does It Mean to Be a Spiritual Person?

[From ws2/18 p. 18 – April 16 - April 22] “May [God] grant you to have among yourselves the same mental attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Romans 15:5 In summary, this is another shallow examination of the Scriptures using eisegesis (having one’s own prepared interpretation and looking for support in the Scriptures for this however slim and out of context.) As an extreme example, let us assume (very wrongly of course) for one moment that we wanted to prove Jesus was not humble and instead was proud. How could we support our erroneous idea? What about when Jesus was tempted by the Devil? We could quote Matthew 4:8-10 and say the following “Here Satan wanted a small favour in exchange for an extraordinary gift, something that Jesus’ Father had promised would one day be his. So instead of pleasing Satan, Jesus proudly refused and told him to "Go away”. “ Now we know that this is contrary to the rest of scripture and doesn’t even agree with the rest of the context, but everything above in quotes is accurate except for one word “proud” which is my eisegetical addition for the sake of illustration. So now let us examine the following: Would we consider Noah a spiritual person? Yes. Why? Because Genesis 6:8-9,22 says Noah found favour in God’s eyes, was righteous and did all that God commanded him. The account in Genesis does not mention preaching, rather it focuses on his making of the Ark. 2 Peter 2:5 is often used to try and prove Noah was a preacher, however, it is interesting that God’s Word Translation says, “Noah was his [God’s] messenger who told people about the kind of life that has God's approval.” This understanding fits well with the account in Genesis. Would we consider Abraham was a spiritual person? Yes. Why? James 2:14-26 discussing faith and works highlights, among others, Abraham as a righteous man due to his faith and works. Did Abraham preach? There is no record of him doing so. But Hebrews 13:2 reminds us that some faithful ones of old, unknown to them, entertained angels.  In other words, they were hospitable even if they put their own family in danger as a result (e.g. Lot). Would we consider Daniel was a spiritual person? Yes. Why? According to Daniel 10:11-12, he was a highly desirable man to Jehovah, because he gave his heart to understanding and humbled himself before God. Also Ezekiel 14:14 links Noah, Daniel and Job as righteous people. But did he do God's will as a door-to-door preacher?  The answer is no! There are many others we could mention. What was the commonality among them? They did God’s will as they were directed by Him, and put their faith in Him. So in the light of these faithful examples, how would you understand the following statement? “Are we like Jesus, ever ready to show compassionate concern when we meet people who need help? In addition, Jesus devoted himself to the work of preaching and teaching the good news. (Luke 4:43) All such feelings and actions are marks of a spiritual person.” (Paragraph 12) Did you notice the eisegetical conclusion? I am sure you would agree that it was the last sentence. We have just established by exegetical study (letting the Bible interpret itself) that what defines whether one is a spiritual person is doing God’s will, not whether one preaches or not. Both statements about Jesus are true but the conclusion is unsupported. To reason on this, all three faithful ones of old we considered (and we could have considered more with the same conclusion) are ones we all would consider as spiritual people, yet by the standards set in this article when discussing Jesus, no faithful ones before Jesus and his disciples would be counted spiritual since they did not preach.  That clearly doesn’t make sense in the light of how Jehovah viewed: Noah (faultless among his contemporaries), Abraham (uniquely called God’s friend), Job (no one like him in the earth, blameless and upright), and Daniel (a very desirable man).

Hi Renegade Nation! Today's show starts with the deadline that just passed over the US debt ceiling freeze which occurred yesterday, March 15, 2017. Not a peep of this was discussed in the MSM, or even, as I found out yesterday and today, was there much of it talked about across the internet. Why? According to David Stockman, the former White House Budget Director in Ronald Reagan's Administration, we're headed for a fiscal bloodbath than the fiscal stimulus that is being expressed by the new Trump Administration. Donald Trump has inherited 30 years of debt build-up and a fiscal policy that's been reckless in the extreme. The question in my mind is how can President Trump create fiscal stimulus while Congress appears to not want to raise the debt ceiling in the first place - potentially leading the US towards default? I talk into this conundrum and then Connect The Dots to the extraordinary "goings-on" down in Antarctica and the soft disclosures that have recently come out. It's a very interesting connection and gives a glimpse as to why Trump has such a confident face in regards to the challenges facing his administration, which in short is an undeniable civil war between rival government factions playing out in our headlines as we speak. Something else in in the works here, Renegade Nation! Along with this soft disclosures regarding Antarctica, it is preparing us for some major disclosure, I believe, in the near future. WikiLeaks release of Vault 7 and all the ugly disclosures happening now are a precursor that is clearing the slate as the Trump Administration "cleans the swamp". A necessary process as we potentially head to a very different world. I hope you find this as interesting as I did. Thanks for listening - Everly Isbe - and check out my links below, there are a couple of videos that reveal what these soft disclosures potentially mean; from Linda Moulton-Howe's interview with Whitley Streiber and David Wilcocks overview video just released which further explore the current goings on in Antarctica. One of the objectives of a recent trip into space was to determine the long-range effect on “the mind, body and spirit” of the travelers into this last frontier. The agency which supervises all government-sponsored trips into space – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently announced the safe return of astronaut Scott Kelly who had spent the last year living in the Space Station. This is longer than anyone else had previously done. The ramification of this trip – a medical experiment, in fact – is fascinating for the scientists at NASA and the spine specialists at Texas Back Institute. Why? According to news reports, including this one from NBC, Scott Kelley’s body changed while he was living in outer space. In addition to other possible effects of the weightlessness of outer space (yet to be determined), Kelly appears to have grown about 2-inches during this period. This fact is corroborated by a comparison with Scott’s brother, Mark, who is an identical twin and thus has the exact genetic makeup. This medical experiment, with one brother acting as the test subject and the other acting as the “control,” is critical to devising a medical and physical regimen for astronauts who, on future trips to planets in this solar system such as Mars, will be required to live in these conditions for sometimes decades. Before discussing these myriad medical mysteries, the obvious first question is clearly begged. Did the effects of 1-year of weightlessness, the closed quarters or other factors cause Scott Kelly to grow an additional 2-inches? For the answer to this, Texas Back Institute spine surgeon Dr. Rey Bosita was asked for his professional opinion. Read the full post here: www.texasback.com/blog

In a word, imperialism. But if you survey countries around the world, it’s not clear whether imperialism (and colonization) hurt or helped development. The Spanish thoroughly imperialized Mexico, and it’s pretty prosperous; no one really got into the interior of Africa and it’s not.  And what are we to make of developmental differences within, say, prosperous Europe? No real imperialism there; a lot of bloody war, but no imperialism as such. Germany is free and prosperous. Russia is not free and not prosperous. Why is that? In their impressive and refreshing bookThe Long Process of Development: Building Markets and States in Pre-industrial England, Spain and their Colonies (Cambridge University Press, 2014),Jerry F.
