One of our Kinksiest pals, Jeffrey Innes from Yukon Blonde, joins us—so put a brew on and listen in as we discuss perhaps the most underrated Kinks album.
Jeffrey Innes of indie rock band Yukon Blonde leads us through an incredible journey in the world of "Shuggie". With insight about everything from the songwriting to visuals accompanying the album, he truly provides a second-layer of meaning to the project.
This week, we're joined by Brandon Wolfe Scott, best known as the guitarist of Yukon Blonde. With a recently released solo effort, Scott has been trying out new, different things, and discovering more about his own musicianship in the process. Here, Scott talks about finding a balance between his work with Yukon Blonde and his solo endeavours, as well as some of his prized and coveted musical istruments and accessories.
This edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle simply features great songs from amazing artists such as Primal Scream, John Lee Hooker, ELO, Joe Cocker, Molly Hatchett, Tony Furtado, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Yukon Blonde, Steve Stevens and SO MANY more. ENJOOOOYYYYY!!!!
It's Brandon Wolfe Scott week on The Road The Stage. He's got a killer new song "Fade Out" which you can stream RIGHT NOW. It's a dandy. A treat. Patrick Bateman and Peter Michaels got to chew BWS' ear about some new Beatles doc everyone is talking about, his explanation of 'hologramming', a truly horrifying story of one of his bandmates, taking an award guitar into the ocean, and LOTS MORE. Check out his solo work, or forever miss out on some great tunes. Recorded and Produced at Communal Creative Studios in Red Deer, Alberta. Do me a huge favour: Pour yourself a cold glass of water, take out your phone - hit THIS LINK - Like and Subscribe. Then take a swig. You'll live an extra 2.5 days.
Johnny has a new song out called "Someday" and I rank it. How would the ranker crowd feel? What would the names of the Spotify Playlists be? I'm joined by Jeffrey Innes and Brandon Wolfe Scott, who also has a song out (massive rivalreh.) In a more earnest than usual IWOL, we talk musical influences, nostalgia, and the many era's of Neil Young. Johnny is back next Wednesday FYI. Enjoy your week.

Vancouver's Yukon Blonde are the perfect music for a sunny summer evening at the lake. I've been wanting to talk to the band for a while now, but I think this interview was cursed. I was sick and we had to move locations a couple of times to avoid 1) soundcheck at the Commodore Ballroom, 2) a rainy Vancouver night, 3) a security guard on his smoke break, and finally 4) a loud alley air conditioning fan. Still I got some funny stuff from the guys in Yukon Blonde. (The origin of the band name is hilarious!) Listen to our chat. Tracks played on the show... 1) Yukon Blonde, Tiger Talk “My Girl” 2) Yukon Blonde, Tiger Talk “Stairway” 3) Yukon Blonde, Yukon Blonde “Babies Don't Like Blue Anymore” 4) Yukon Blonde, Tiger Talk “Guns” ALL songs CANCON
When I arrived to chat with Lowell Sostomi from Great Bloomers, I had to break up an afternoon beer session involving members of Yukon Blonde, Library Voices and Great Bloomers. But Lowell was perfectly happy to take a break from the backstage shenanigans at The Commodore Ballroom to talk to me about the band lineup changes, Trans-Canada Highway tour van accidents and hardcore dental surgery! Listen to our chat… Tracks played on the show... 1) Great Bloomers, Distant Fires “Something More” 2) Great Bloomers, Speak of Trouble “The Young Ones Slept” 3) Great Bloomers, Distant Fires “Sunday Clothes” ALL songs CANCON

Part 2 of my conversation with special guest Matt Phillion as we discuss the evolution of profanity. I've also got the Bonehead of the Week and music from Japandroids, Cloud Nothings, Ceremony and Yukon Blonde. Show notes: - Mother jokes led to popularity of "m-f'er" - Eddie Murphy's Comedian album introduced a whole new world of profanity - Most words have lost shock value - Little girl swearing in "Kick Ass" was shocking - We had more freedom as kids, but kids can access so much more now - Still isn't cool to randomly drop f-bombs in public - Matt: Won't call a female a bitch - Becoming more sensitive about calling your friends gay - Hollywood has become introduced to foul-mouthed Boston Irish characters - Swear words we won't say anymore - Songs with profanity are becoming more commonplace - Comedians have always pushed the boundaries - The Simpsons were once the paragon of rudeness - Violence on TV is no problem, but sex and some profanity is still banned - Cell phones have taken over people's lives - Bonehead of the WeekMusic:Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built Cloud Nothings - No Sentiment Ceremony - Hysteria Yukon Blonde - Stairway Completely Conspicuous is available through the iTunes podcast directory. We’ve got a couple of great local bands doing holiday-time shows this week, and that’s reason to celebrate. And, we’re still toiling away on those “best of” lists (and compilations), so we sift through some more contenders.
