Other than that, this episode is simply another 2 hours of AWESOME music featuring artists like Squeeze, Bonnie Raitt, Translator, Woodlock, Common Sense, Sam Cooke, Kacey Musgraves, Goldford, Nick Lowe and MANY others. Yeah....SO Mother's Day is a terrible holiday for any rock music tribute. The pickings are super slim and too familiar. SO, we are not doing a Mother-focused or themed show. Instead, we have requested listener input and got some great realtime requests! Plus, our standard fare will be tons of music you can share with the mother in your life....If she's a "cool Mom" she'll certainly dig it! BC was a local Laguna Beach musical legend as the lead singer of a few local bands, most notably The Blues Offenders, The Agave Brothers and The Skeleton Crew, a very successful SoCal Grateful Dead cover band. Bob will forever be loved, and deeply missed, by his family and friends. May his memory, including the music he loved, be a blessing to all that knew him. SR

Music has so many purposes and values in our lives: to entertain, to inspire, to cause reflection or distraction, to create joy, to express love.In addition, it can help us as we deal with loss and grief and accompany us as we journey a tortuous emotional path. This edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle Show is very personal as I continue to experience a wide range of emotions on the 5th anniversary of a terrible personal loss. The songs I've selected are those that reflect pain and heartache, grief and longing and expressions of what may lie beyond, but also songs that simply were favorites of my lost loved one. My hope is that these songs, and this show, may touch or inspire you, or simply create reflections upon your own journey thru loss. Ths is for Ethan James and for all those whom we'll miss forever. Warmly, Steve
Frankly, Easter is a pretty crummy 'holiday' to try to celebrate on rock radio! So, this edition of the CHS really isn't too different from a typical show, tho we DID sneak in a few Easter Eggs into the playlist for you to discover. With the passing this past week of the great songwriter Burt Bacharach, I'm very proud to share this special edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle Show. This show honors his legacy by playing over 30 of his songs in the sequence of the years that they were originally released. However, these are mostly versions of the songs covered by artists who did not record the "hit version". So, that means you'll hear familiar songs but as covered by artists like Isaac Hayes, Jennifer Warnes, Naked Eyes, Barenaked Ladies, The Sylistics, Love and Alison Moyet. Of course, Burt's "muse" Dionne Warwick, along with 60's vocal greats like Jackie DeShannon and Dusty Springfield are also represented!Burt Bacharach truly created my portal into beautiful melodies and creative time signatures through the 60's and early 70's, and in doing so he laid the foundation for so much of the music I've loved ever since. Thank you, Mr. Bacharach for all that. I'm deeply grateful. SR

The music world lost 2 legends over the past week, David Crosby and Jeff Beck. In this edition of the Coast Highway Shuffle Show, we honor them with a retrospective of their careers and amazing musical contributions. We play Crosby's music from The Byrds, to CSN&Y, to his solo work. And we cover Jeff Beck from The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group to Beck, Bogart and Appice, leading to his stunning solo work. It's impossible to fully cover both careers in a 2 1/2 hour show, but this show does it's best to share a sense of these timeless and iconoclastic artists and their music, which helped define a generation. Rip David and Jeff.
Join us for this very first show of 2023! And, yes, as the title suggests, this show is also cohosted by none other than Laguna's own Connor Reid, on loan from Austin, Texas. Truly, I struggle with editions of the Coast Highway Shuffle where we must pay tribute to an artist who has passed. This week, we celebrate the career of the amazing singer/songwriter Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, who passed just 5 days ago, with 2 'headsets' of songs she wrote and performed. Of course, we also have many other songs to share, by artists like moe., Bret McKenzie, Cake, M&E, Yes, Sting, Neal Francis, Midnight Oil, Los Espiritus, JD Souther and many more.
