That Dostoevsky has taught me anything, let alone about workout consistency is not something I expected to be saying as a health and fitness coach! But finishing Crime and Punishment on holiday turned out to have more in common with getting in shape after 40 than I could have imagined.
Why can't I lose weight? If you're in your 40s or 50s, eating reasonably well, getting some exercise in, but the weight just won't shift, you're almost certainly making at least two or three of these six common mistakes.I'm Chris, a health and fitness coach who has worked with men and women in midlife for 16 years, and these are the habits I see repeatedly that stop you losing weight after 40.
Bulletproof Weeks System: https://ovr40.co/bws - How long does it take to lose weight? If you've been doing everything right for a few weeks and nothing seems to be changing, this video gives you a coach's honest answer based on 16 years of working with real people.I'm Chris, a health and fitness coach for the over 40s, and the question of how long fat loss actually takes is probably the one that comes up most with new clients, usually a few weeks in when motivation starts to waver.
I had zero energy in my 40s until I fixed 5 things. If you're always tired in your 40s/50s, exhausted no matter how much you sleep, or running on caffeine just to get through the day, this video is for you.
Why do you wake up at 3am and can't get back to sleep? Access the Get Unstuck form for some free custom advice here: https://ovr40.co/unstuck and checkout the Bulletproof Weeks System here: https://ovr40.co/BWS If you're in your 40s or 50s and finding yourself wide awake in the early hours, brain already running, unable to drift back off, this video explains exactly why it happens and what you can do about it.I've been working with men and women on their health and fitness, in person and online, for 16 years. As a 49 year old dad of three myself, I know the struggle is real. The second half of the night is inherently more fragile than the first, and after 40 several things start happening simultaneously that make waking in those early hours much more likely. Most of them never get mentioned, and most people just accept it as part of getting older. It isn't.In this video I cover why this is happening (alcohol, caffeine, stress and other overlooked reasons).I also cover quick practical changes you can make this week, and the longer term approaches that actually break the cycle.Timestamps:0:00 Why the second half of the night is more fragile1:00 How sleep structure changes across the night2:30 The obvious reasons — alcohol, caffeine, room temperature4:30 The ones nobody mentions — cortisol, blood sugar, hormones, conditioned arousal7:00 Quick wins you can start this weekIf you want personalised 1:1 support, drop me an email at chris@offacoach.comCheck out the Bulletproof Weeks System here: https://ovr40.co/BWS https://ovr40.co/BWSCheck out my Bulletproof Weeks System so you can learn how to eat right, train right and live right and get back in shape even when your life gets hectic: https://ovr40.co/BWS

In this video I share the six things I'd tell anyone in their 40s and 50s to be doing if they want to look and feel genuinely well as they get older.I cover how to manage a slower metabolism without giving up everything you enjoy, why knowing your health numbers before something goes wrong is one of the most important habits you can build, how to retain and build muscle after 40 and why most people aren't eating nearly enough protein, why sleep quality matters far more than how many hours you're getting, how to stay mobile and flexible so you're not seizing up as you age, and why your mental health is the foundation everything else is built on.Whether you're trying to lose weight, get fitter, sleep better or just take better care of yourself after 40, these six things will move the needle more than anything else.Timestamps:00:00 - Why these aren't generic health tips00:52 - #1 Metabolism after 4002:23 - #2 Muscle after 4003:56 - #3 Tracking health markers05:34 - #4 Staying Flexible07:01 - #5 Sleep Quality08:10 - #6 Mental health mattersIf you want personalised 1:1 support, drop me an email at chris@offacoach.com#healthafter40 #over40health #healthtipsformen #healthtipsforwomenCheck out the Bulletproof Weeks System here: https://ovr40.co/BWS https://ovr40.co/BWSCheck out my Bulletproof Weeks System so you can learn how to eat right, train right and live right and get back in shape even when your life gets hectic: https://ovr40.co/BWS

China and the Global Economic Order (Cambridge University Press, 2026) examines China's evolving relations with the Bretton Woods institutions (BWIs), specifically the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group from the 1980s through 2025. Using a combination of new qualitative findings and quantitative datasets, the authors observe that China has taken an evolving approach to the BWIs in order to achieve its multiple agendas, acting largely as a 'rule-taker' during its first two decades as a member, but, over time, also becoming a 'rule-shaker' inside the BWIs, and ultimately a new 'rule-maker' outside of the BWIs. The analysis highlights China's exercise of 'two-way countervailing power' with one foot inside the BWIs, and another outside, and pushing for changes in both directions. China's interventions have resulted in BWs reforms and the gradual transformation of the global order, while also generating counter-reactions especially from the United States. Gregory Chin is an Associate Professor of Political Economy in the Department of Politics, and Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University (Canada), with a focus on the political economy of international money and development finance, China, Asia, the BRICS, and global governance. Nomeh Anthony Kanayo, Ph.D. Candidate in International Relations at Florida International University, with research interest in Africa's diaspora relations, African-China relations, great power rivalry and IR theories. What turns a routine delivery into folklore? How does one wide ball at the Gabba trigger a generation of English PTSD? And why do the strangest, funniest and most chaotic moments always seem to find their way into this rivalry? In Part Two of our deep dive into Ashes mythology, Clancy & Errol once again sits down with Peter Lalor to revisit a fresh batch of chaos from the vault. From Harmison’s first-ball moonshot that nearly killed second slip, to Stuart MacGill’s 12-wicket fever dream, to Colin Cowdrey waddling out of a Boeing 707 to save England with nothing but a borrowed bat and enormous optimism. Also examined are some of the more questionable cultural artefacts of Ashes lore, including David “Bumble” Lloyd’s broken cock yarn and Michael Slater belting 176 while Alan Mullally put the dog up Narromine's favourite son. It’s another lap through the moments that prove the Ashes is less a cricket series and more a centuries-old soap opera with better screenwriting. This mini-series is brought to you by BWS. What is an Ashes moment, really? Why do grown men howl like rapid dogs over a ball that lands on a crack? And how did a couple of colonial summer sports turn into one of the world’s most unhinged rivalries? This week, The Betoota Advocate sits down with one of cricket’s most respected storytellers, Peter Lalor, to unpack the triumphs, meltdowns and outright fever dreams that have defined Australia v England, from Thommo rearranging David Lloyd’s tackle, to Scott Boland becoming a deity at the MCG. Join Betoota Talks as Clancy Overell and Errol Parker dig beneath the polite veneer of “Test cricket tradition” and explore the cultural fault lines, national insecurities and generational scars that make the Ashes what they are. A simmering, century-old grudge match wrapped in whites, sunscreen and mild sporting trauma. This mini-series is brought to you by BWS. On your way out? Spotlight Now welcomes two guests to explore Hawaii's relationship with the military when it comes to water and land leases. The Board of Water Supply is suing the U.S. Navy for $1.2 billion to help clean up the 2021 Red Hill fuel spill. BWS manager and chief engineer Ernie Lau says he has been asking the Navy to share their monitoring data, but they have not cooperated. Meanwhile, negotiations continue with the state and military over land leases. Those leases are set to expire in 2029, but the Trump administration has said they want a new deal much sooner. Gov. Josh Green has said it’s in the state’s best interest to engage. Native Hawaiian scholar Jon Kamakawiwoʻole Osorio, dean of the Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, calls his response disappointing. In our new Community Spotlight segment, Kayla Keehu-Alexander, vice president of community impact at Aloha United Way, reflects on federal impacts to local nonprofits.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The PSAT/NMSQT may not influence college admissions decisions, but the test matters in more ways than you might think. Amy and Mike invited educator and author Brian Stewart to discuss how and why to perform your best on the PSAT. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What role does the PSAT play compared to the SAT or ACT? What are some of the most common mistakes students make with the PSAT and how can they avoid them? What study strategies or prep resources are most effective for the PSAT? What are some ways students can effectively use the embedded Bluebook tools to do well on the PSAT? What kind of students should focus on the SAT and PSAT at the same time? MEET OUR GUEST At the end of his first year teaching Social Studies at Dublin Jerome High School, company founder Brian Stewart thought it would make sense to do some part-time tutoring work over the summer. After all, he had done quite well on standardized tests when he was in high school and really enjoyed coming up with creative ways to explain challenging concepts to students. Other companies charged a fortune and didn't seem to have a high-quality product. As Brian worked with more students, word spread about the quality of his tutoring services. He started to offer ACT and SAT test prep group classes, and worked with students from all over Central Ohio. In 2011, Brian left his day job to run BWS Education Consulting full time with his wife Caitlin. Applying the expertise from her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy, Caitlin has ensured that our teaching materials and methods make high-quality test preparation accessible to students of all backgrounds and ability levels. In 2012, Barron's Educational Series contacted Brian about submitting samples of his writing as they conducted a national search for their next ACT book author. Brian was chosen to write Barron's ACT, and has gone on to write several ACT, SAT, and PSAT books with Barron's Educational Series. His books have sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide. In 2014, BWS Education expanded to have associate tutors who teach not only the ACT and SAT, but tutor students in math, science, and writing. Brian and Caitlin personally interview and train every tutor on our staff to ensure they are the best in the business. BWS is a team of committed educators who relentlessly look for the best way to deliver educational enrichment to our clients, whether it's test prep, academic help, or college admission counseling. Brian appeared on the podcast in episode #33 to discuss PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship, in episode #383 to discuss Should You Prepare for the PSAT, in episode #507 to discuss The New Digital PSAT, and in episode #590 to discuss How To Prep For The Digital PSAT. Speaker, Podcaster & Inspirational Bloke Ben Pettingill joins us for a yarn.During a normal run-of-the-mill incident at high school, Ben woke up overnight in hospital losing 98% of his eyesight at the age of 16. We discuss the initial challenges that Ben faced getting his world turned upside down and the physical and mental attitudes he implemented to adapt to his diagnosis and not let it control him. We discuss the turning point of his life when he chose to pursue public speaking to tell his story and how that grew into his very own podcast, Talkin Tough. We discuss the ins and outs of normal every day life being blind, including what Ben does to wind down, the technology he uses to aid him and why he choses not to have a service dog before wrapping up with the Guest Questions and his experience fighting in the Seven Man all in Blindfolded fight at the Podcast Royale 2.0, without a blindfold. This bloke is an inspiration and this yarn is one of the most inspiring we've had easily. Big trouble in little old Gladdy over the weekend. The boys are back, Bandit is fresh off a swing and tells us all about it, including all the highs and lows. We talk about old school game shows that used to be on Aussie telly and run through a nice Roast Lamb we cooked over the weekend, plus our plan to set the tone and bring back the Big Brekky. PLENTY to cover in the News, including the local Gladstone mall incident and even us making the shit town power rankings this week. We cover a little bit of Motivation before hitting off with a new segment to top it off, the Poo's Reviews: all things covering the dirty ol' box of stick books sitting in the studio. Was great to sit down as a team and cover what's been happening and some future plans over the next couple of weeks. Enjoy legends!Got a yarn? What a weekend watching some sick skids and meeting The Warden! We go through our weekend in Rocky at Rockynats and the PBR and what each event entailed respectively, including taking out Bucking Bull of the night. We announce what is happening in regards to the PPV for the Podcast Royale 2.0. Tommy runs us through another Sudocrem drama. Cooking With Daddy covers a decadent short rib pasta. The Blobfish is back and we cover the upcoming card with our man Volk for the News and Sport before finishing off with The Doghouse and a couple of Questions in the Q + A. Thanks to everyone who said g'day to us over the weekend legends. Have a ripper week and stay outta yaself.Got a Yarn or Question for the show? A wet weekend in Doomben called the races off but nonetheless we always show up and had a ripper of a Owners Day to celebrate Yabby Pump over the weekend. We run through the trip to the big smoke and some wild yarns throughout it, including a busted knee, opera singing buskers and a real life wipeout course. Quinn presents his homework assigned from last week and the weirdest and wackiest animals on Earth. Some home grown baby peppers come in handy during Cooking With Daddy and some wild Crocodile attacks recently feature heavily in the News before we check out the movements of UFC and Boxing the next couple of week in the Sport. The hard hitting questions like what did people do before sleeping without phones during Tommy's Headnoise, a near house fire in The Doghouse and we bring it home with the debut our Q & A segment. Hope you legends had a great weekend and are ready to tear the week a new freckle. Enjoy. Got a Yarn or Question for the show?
