Hello! We are Bill and TDOG and we like movies. Basically all of them. We aren't here to tell you what's good and what's not; that's for every person to decide for themselves. Rather, we're here to talk about two movies that share an interesting or unique connection that we found compelling. Ultimately, it's an excuse to talk about movies we love, with people we love, without having to teach a class...
The Suicide Squad and The Dirty Dozen a discussion of suicide missions for a team of Baddies as a trope both old and new A bunch of baddies all locked up in jail FOREVER, but the government needs a dangerous mission completed. Call in the Dirty Dozen or the Suicide Squad; they'll get it done! The Dirty Dozen stars President Snow and Bill's Grandma's biggest crush - Chuck Bronson - as a bunch of convicts blow up a Nazi officer's club, Inglorious Basterds style. The Suicide Squad stars Captain Mal Reynolds, Yondu, Kim Kardashian's boyfriend (this joke will certainly be evergreen) and the guy from Das Sound Machine, except they all die in the first 10 minutes. The Lion King and Strange Brew a 2Films3Curious special featuring 2Films 3Curious alum The Other Bill "Oh, Hamlet Hamlet Hamlet Hamlet! the Vampire Army has taken the city!" -Hamlet, Act 3 Billy S., as he was known to his friends; was nothing if not prolific. From Henry the IV to Henry the V; Shakespeare has written a button of crap. One that some people were forced to read in school is Hamlet. The Lion King (1994) is Hamlet but with lions, and features Mandy from The West Wing and Darth Vader himself as Old Hamlet (I mean Mufasa). Strange Brew starts as some sort of weird Omega Man ripoff; but eventually becomes Hamlet in a Canadian brewery featuring Bob and Doug Mackenzie as the illustrious Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, as well as Max Von Sydow in a role that has no real analogue to the Hamlet story. (editor's note - is Max Von Sydow Ophelia's dad? since he's the caretaker of Rosy La Rose; our storie's Ophelia? who's to say??) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
White Christmas and The Holiday a 2Films 3Curious Christmas Special Spectacular featuring 2Films 3Curious Alum Brenda! A lot has changed in film over the years. Used to be you couldn't get a movie job unless you could make silly faces and talk in text cards; nowadays there's people out there in movies talking at all kinds of volumes and with names like Skarsgård. Join us as we look at how the world of Christmas Movies, Rom-Coms (or romantically comedics, for long), and old people have changed from the 50s to the booming 2000s. White Christmas is about a couplea song and dance men singing and dancing in postwar Vermont; featuring Bing Crosby and Danny [REDACTED] Kaye from the Christmas Vacation quote. The Holiday is about the wonders of houseswapping and stars an EXCEEDINGY normal Jack Black who is still quite goofy when next to Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Watership Down and Les Miserables We're back from our unintentionally long hiatus and are here to present our February episode on today; February 60th! Animated vs live action? Musical or spoken drama? Fantasy worldbuilding or historical fiction? Many things about these movies are not the same, but it's safe to say that Hazel the rabbit and Jean Valjean the human bean are kindred souls. Watership Down is the story of a group of rebels who flee to paradise, liberating the oppressed along the way; but also they're all rabbits. Les Miserables or, as the French say, Les Mis, is the story of a decorated cop who chases a fugitive across idyllic 1800s France, except they're all singing. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Speed Racer Why would you make something animated be live action? are you trying to do a grown up kids thing? You tryna do your edgy business? You decided that you really just liked puppets? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Sam Rockwell, Corey Feldman, and Elmo Monster in a movie about teen-aged turtles (of the ninja mutant variety) as they clean the mean mean streets of ole New York. It's got puppets and that classic New York gritty realism. Speed Racer stars Jay Adams, Walter Sobchak, and Wednesday Addams in a story about corporate greed and the triumph of the Mom and Pop(s Racer) small business. It's like a bright, colorful, zany Matrix except make it racing and anime. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
SPECIAL FEATURE: Captain 2Films: the Winter 2Curious Join Bill and TDOG as they discuss movies they like where the main character is FAR from sympathetic, movies that they were surprised to learn they liked, and; the ever-popular, crowd favorite Captain America: The Winter Soldier on "Whaddya do? There Will Be Blood stars Daniel Day Lewis, Paul Dano and featuring Paul Dano in a movie about a bubblin crude. (Oil, that is; black gold, Texas tea) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Shaolin Soccer If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball, as the saying goes; but what if your Iron Head technique can bend a wrench? Sports comedies seem to be pretty formulaic - underdogs win; bad guys lose, there's sports involved. But are they similar, internationally? Dodgeball stars Wash, the pilot of Serenity and a Mac computer as they dodge wrenches, balls, and traffic to defeat Derek Zoolander's evil Gym. Shaolin Soccer stars both the leader and an aspiring member of the deadly Ax Gang as they teach the world about Shaolin Kung Fu by playing soccer and defeating the evil Team Evil. For a lot of people, that weird thing is weird movies. Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Count of Monte Cristo A discussion about revenge. Revenge is a dish best served cold, as the Klingons say (or, really "bortaS bIr jablu'DI', reH QaQqu' nay'", but same diff). But is it worth it? Should you revengeance a student who makes you look like a fool? Should you destroy a man's life because he threw you in jail because you were successful? These are the questions that plague us. Ferris Bueller's Day Off stars the WarGames _boy and Captain John Harriman of the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC 1701-B) as they tour Chicago. _The Count of Monte Cristo stars Jesus and his son, D.C. Comics' Jesus as they tour old timey France. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers A discussion on middle parts of trilogies. The middle part of a trilogy has a unique problem to tackle: be a coherent, stand alone story that also bridges the beginning and end of a much larger story. We're not talking about, like, Godfather part II which was supposed to be the end of the series; or, like, Toy Story 2 which doesn't really tightly link Toy Story and Toy Story 3. Rather, we're thinking about making a good movie and a good story out of an incomplete saga. But really, we're just excited to finally do Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back stars Linus Larrabee, the therapist from Austin Powers, and Cliff Clavin as the Rebel Alliance destroys no Death Stars. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers features the cannibal from Sin City, the man who rode Hidalgo in Hidalgo, and the new Zelda Spellman as they all walk around a whole bunch. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Thor Ragnarok A discussion about major tonal shifts in established serieses. You know how it goes: sometimes you watch the first movie in a series and then you watch the second one and you think "was that even in the same galaxy as the original??" Usually it's pretty jarring, but usually it's also the second movie in a series. It's pretty uncommon to see huge tonal shifts in the third movie of a series.Harry Potter 3 is a movie that threw out the bright shiny Harry Potter in 1 and 2 (along with the castle and Richard Harris) for a much darker Harry Potter (and much darker castle and Michael Gambon). Thor 3 (often written as 3or by only me and really only in the last week or so) takes Kenneth Branaughhes Shakespearean Thor and detonates a Taika Waititi glitter bomb right in the core. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Bad Times at the El Royale and The Shining Drax: If he's a planet, how could he make a baby with your mother? He would smush her. Sometimes a setting is so rich, it feels like a whole other character... Sometimes the setting IS a whole other character. Both of these movies are suspenseful tales of hotels. Both of these hotels are so evocative, that they feel like protagonists or antagonists you can relate to. Both of these hotels are technically fake (although the Overlook is inspired by a couplea different places you can visit...). BUT! only one of these movies have a setting that IS a character... Is it Bad Times at the El Royale or The Shining? This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
All The President's Men and Zodiac "Do you read a lot yourself?" "Print is dead..." What is journalistic integrity? Did President Nixon break the law? Is Ted Cruz the Zodiac Killer? We don't really answer all these questions, but join us as we watch talk about two suspenseful movies about newspapers. All The President's Men is a movie about Watergate and cracking that case wide open. Zodiac is a movie where they DON'T solve the Zodiac murders. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
The Martian and RocketMan (1997) A discussion of space exploration in honor of Apollo 11 “Even in a time of intergalactic crisis, people still want to roll them bones.” Jack Nicholson, Mars Attacks Space is really really big. We've not even seen, like half of it. Like, there's a lot we don't even know about the sun, and won't until we land on it. Which is why we need to explore more! The Martian is a really dope movie where Not-Mark-Whalberg does some neat science to save himself from the harsh Martian surface. RocketMan is a movie where Harland Williams is told off in a harsh fashion for annoying his peers on the Martian surface. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Romeo + Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing; a 2Films3Curious special "Now, I know Shakespeare's a dead white guy, but he knows his shit, so we can overlook that." 2Films 3Curious is back with another special guest! Co-Tagonist Devon is on to talk with us about Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet and Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. Baz Luhrmann's ostentation highlights beautifully the melodrama that is Shakespeare's most well known story of two idiots that kill each other and Joss Whedon does a glorious job adapting "Much Ado"s original text to a house party he had in 2011. Both have modern pictures and old timey words and help you feel better about not paying attention to them in High School. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
The 13th Warrior and O Brother Where Art Thou? It's like a book you had to read in school BUT COOLER Epic literature is so ingrained culturally, that to cut through the white noise, you often have to put your own little twist on it. Even Romeo and Juliet has guns and zombies now; depending on what you watch... The 13th Warrior is the story of Beowulf as told through the eyes of Antonio Banderas. It was a huge flop that deserves far more credit. O Brother Where Art Thou? is the story of the Odyssey set in Great Depression America. The music is AMAZING and all of the neat peripheral actors are amazing too. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Jaws and Lars and the Real Girl "We need a community leader and it's going to be you, Quark." What is a community? How can they help their members? How can they hurt? Come with us as we look at Jaws and Lars and the Real Girl and discover what they have to say about being a member of a community. Jaws is a movie about a big ol hungry boi shark and the cop, fisherman, and baby Richard Dreyfuss who kill it. Lars and the Real Girl is a movie where Ryan Gosling is in love with an inhuman replicant but Harrison Ford isn't in it. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
John Wick and The Warriors "...and all the worlds he builds? I mean, wow. That's some worlds right there..." Worldbuilding is the idea where someone builds the world...Not the toughest nut to crack, but it takes a lot to bake this perfect cake. John Wick, starring Keanu "man of our hearts" Reeves builds an interesting world of Crime in New York. The Warriors, a cult-classic based on a novel called The Warriors, builds a DIFFERENTLY interesting world of Crime in New York. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World "...you are bad guy, but this does not mean you are bad guy." Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl stars Legolas, Sabé, and Sweeny Todd as adventurers on the sea of Piracy (the Pirasea?). We learn that not all pirates are bad and not all protagonists are "good" in this, the first of five Pirateses. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World stars Javert, Vision, and Peregrin Took as they hunt down a French Privateer. Good guys do good and bad guys do well in this much more gritty boat movie. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
