Pull out two strips of Gold-Pressed Latinum and submit them in the little box to listen to our episode on the Farenghi, Star Trek The Next Generation's first attempt at a recurring villain race which went incredibly poorly for everyone concerned. From their first appearance in the show when they act like incredibly hyperactive gerbils in the The Last Outpost to their most recent focus in Star Trek Prodigy where we find out more about Dal's past and the conflict between his old life and his new life in First Con-tact to one of Deep Space Nine's many attempts to bring nuance to the species in Family Business when Quark and Rom have to deal with their mother Ishka's becoming involved in what passes for First Stage Feminism in a culture where women can't wear clothes. What a perfect alien race to talk about the day before the British Election gets the money grabbing Tory's out of power after 14 years! Who says Star Trek isn't political? If they do, make them put three strips of latinum in the appropriate hole! EPISODES INCLUDED: The Last Outpost (13:39), First Con-tact (43:35), Family Business (01:03:43) Talking Points Include: They Live and Ironic 4th July movies (we didn't watch ‘They Live,' but instead we watched ‘Slap Shot'), we briefly touch on the inevitable rousting of the Torys, the unfortunate antisemitic coding of the Farenghi, BE INTIMIDATED BY MILES' ARMS! The Robocop vs. The Terminator crossover by Dark Horse Comics, (CORRECTION: Frank Miller HAD started writing and drawing ‘Sin City' the year before) the Monster of the Week RPG, back to the Season One well of Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Bee-Gees, Lisa-Lisa and Cult Jam, where IS the Enterprise's Engineer? Geordi's weird ‘oooooh-wee!' could the Farenghi ever have been a threat? Doctor Who's own Farneghi the Slitheen and how they killed Charlie's interest in Doctor Who back in 2005, the Farenghi design and how it's immediately undercut, Armin Shimmerman giving some great vibes this early on, how this remakes ‘Errand of Mercy,' Captain Picard does a swear, that one episode of ‘The X-Files' what Stephen King wrote contained a swear, Transformers: The Movie dropping a ‘S-Bomb,' Are we actually watching ‘The Mighty Boosh? We want Matt Berry to be a Star Trek Alien, Adele (sound goblins ate anything we had to say further on Adele, apologies for the weird edit) WHY IS ‘ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS' the US Number One in January? Kid Kapici, Sea Power is a Hometown Band, Dal has a Yondu. Charlie is a freak, Charlie also likes to equate Dal from ‘Prodigy' to Poochie, Prodigy excelling at non-humanoid aliens, cartoons for kids these days don't have as much as a reset button as they used to, Prodigy finally does a Starfleet, Warren Ellis and Brian Michael Bendis style decompression in relation to Picard, eventually Charlie will learn how to pronounce René Auberjonois' surname, Living Joy, Montell Jordan and THIS IS HOW WE DO IT, Charlie's love of KINECT Dance Games, Jake Sisko is disturbingly obsessed with his dad's love life, Quark is the lone conservative in a strangely progressive Farenghi family, THE RETURN OF JEFFREY COMBS, Farenghinar is the future tech-bros want, (CULTURAL NOTE: Rounders is the British equivalent of ‘Baseball,') how old is Jake Sisko? At this point during the episode, the weekly Madison Tornado siren test starts going off, Charlie deals with his own FCA in real life, Farenghi culture and their home world is almost set up to be a Gilliam-esque nightmare, once more a reminder that Miles didn't watch ‘Rejoined' for the Trill episode, this isn't a Farenghi Comedy Episode.

↫Story↬ Story written by me! For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon **** Your head was in a daze. Everything had happened all at once. One minute, life on Knowhere was as normal as ever, the next, completely flipped upside down by some golden maniac. You'd watched as Peter and Mantis had discovered Rocket's limp figure on the floor of the weapons room, evidently gravely injured - your own figure going rigid in a sudden fear as you'd followed in behind them, your gaze meeting the bleary eyed features of your lover, his face paling. It had been a hasty trip to board the Bowie, some weapons not even bothering to be collected as everyone had rushed the raccoon to the ship's Med Bay, working quickly to stabilize his condition. But there was an unexpected catch - a monumental one. One that if not bothered to be deactivated, the one who calls himself Rocket will die… instantly. But, for now, things are settling down. You'd found yourself almost instinctively wandering towards one of your favorite spots on the ship - a small cot off to the side of the upper flybridge, but still in view of the main expanse of windows. Though as you sit in the quiet with the steady hum of the engines keeping you company, a new sound pricks your attention. Footsteps. Heavy, but lazy - evidently dazed. Moments later, a familiar figure appears, passing you by without even a second glance, coming to a halt in front of the balcony overlooking the main flightdeck below. Gaze wandering the vast expanse of space and headphones in, Peter Quill is completely oblivious to his surroundings, the tinny music bleeding from the headphones a compelling piece of evidence. Even more so as yet another two sets of footsteps from behind you gain your attention, urging a small grin to your lips. Mantis and Drax stand in the hallway, evidently conspiring together on behalf of the sorrowed man standing in front of the three of you. Heck, sorrowed is an understatement. The past few years of Peter's life have been what some might call hell. You've been helping him through it as best as you can be, but sometimes… sometimes… you feel as if you just can't do enough. And as Drax delivers a surprisingly accurate, semi-comforting monologue to a now aware Quill, much thanks to Mantis' instruction, the pair take their leave, Peter now realizing your presence. Wordlessly, you offer a small smile and a chuckle, patting the empty spot at your side, scooching over to make room for the lone man in front of you. Though Pete seems to ponder something for a moment before making his way towards you, joining you on the cot, sighing heavily. “If I hadn't been drinkin', maybe Rocket wouldn't-” He mumbles, rolling on his side to face you, tears glistening in his gaze as yet another shaky sigh escapes him. “I'm sorry.” You offer a tight, thin-lipped smile, rubbing your thumb over his cheek, wiping away a loose tear. “There's nothing to apologize for. We'll get that passkey. He'll be fine.” Though your words of reassurance seem to fall on deaf ears, your lover's cheeks glistening with a few more loose tears, of which you once more wipe away. “Everyone around me dies. My Mother, Yondu, Gamora…” He trails off, an anguished, rather strangled sigh being pulled from his lips as he wordlessly wraps his arms around your torso and pulls you close - almost silently vowing to never let you go. “It'll be okay, Peter…” You find yourself murmuring into his chest as he detaches his headphones and docks his Zune into the port behind you, the soft melodies keeping the pair of you company as the momentary quiet stretches on.

We talk about this and much more, including: Is it possible for humans to create a utopia? Was God created from our consciousness or is our consciousness created by God? What clues does Vol. 3's diegetic soundtrack give us concerning Yondu's and Peter's relationship? Does The High Evolutionary's power of gravity signal the inverted God archetype? Can the TV tech combined with the emotional trauma of the movie make us more susceptible to hidden messages? Does Rocket Raccoon represent the Antichrist? The issues addressed behind the scenes allegedly include creative difficulties with scripts, post-production problems and lackluster visual effects. To prevent Phases 5 and 6 from continuing down a similar path, the report claims Disney could ensure a creative oversight on MCU projects still in the pre-production stage, which in effect could see future projects delayed or outright canceled. Of course, it's worth noting this report has yet to be confirmed through any official Disney or Marvel channels at the time of this writing.   Disney's Christine McCarthy Emerges As Top CEO Contender To Succeed Bob Iger; CFO Was King Killer Who Took Down Bob Chapek https://deadline.com/2022/12/disney-bob-iger-christine-mccarthy-ceo-successor-bob-chapek-1235190043/ https://www.cbr.com/bob-iger-christine-mccarthy-successor-contender-disney/ A new report has emerged suggesting that current Disney CFO Christine McCarthy is the frontrunner to replace Bob Iger as CEO after his two-year term comes to a close in 2024.   Per Deadline, Disney insiders believe McCarthy is a leading contender to take over for Iger, stating that she "has always been a force to be reckoned with, but you have to put her on a list of top five possibilities after the last few weeks." McCarthy, who has been the chief financial officer at Disney since 2015, was instrumental in the removal of Bob Chapek as Disney CEO, which took place on Nov. 20. If McCarthy were handed the keys to the Magic Kingdom, she would become the company's first female CEO.   MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS NEWS   The Legacy of Ant-Man | Brazil Comic Con Special Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRSwXvMcT5c https://www.cbr.com/legacy-of-ant-man-marvel-documentary/ Ahead of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel has released a special featurette titled "The Legacy of Ant-Man" that explores Scott Lang's career in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.   This special look at the size-shifting superhero premiered during CCXP and shrinks all of Ant-Man's adventures and misadventures into a two-minute retrospective. It includes some of Paul Rudd's most memorable scenes from Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man and The Wasp and Avengers: Endgame, with a brief look at Quantumania. While the Quantumania teaser trailer had already covered most new reveals from the movie, "The Legacy of Ant-Man" does include an ominous new line from the film's villain, Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conquerer.   At the very end of the featurette, Kang can be heard saying, "Your reality, everything you're holding onto -- I know how it ends. You're out of your league, Ant-Man." This dialogue did not appear in the recent trailer, which instead had Kang say, "I can get you home, and give you more time, if you help me. So what's it gonna be, Ant-Man?" This featurette's version is decidedly more threatening than in the teaser trailer, hinting at Kang's status as a time-traveler from the future, which was first alluded to in Season 1 of Loki.   James Gunn Confirms GotG Vol. 3 References 2001: A Space Odyssey, Not Among Us https://www.cbr.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-3-references-2001-not-among-us/ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer-director James Gunn has clarified that the trailer's color-coded space suits are a reference to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 sci-fi epic 2001: A Space Odyssey, not the popular video game Among Us.   On Twitter, well-known cartoonist Scott Kurtz asked Gunn if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's colorful space suits were a nod to Among Us. Gunn simply replied, "No," sharing a photo of the red, yellow and blue space suits from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kurtz was a good sport about the whole thing, however, tweeting, "I just got schooled by James Gunn. And I love it." And to be fair, judging by other posts on Twitter, Kurtz was far from the only one to think of Among Us when the Guardians donned their colorful gear.   Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's Synopsis Hints at the Team's End https://www.cbr.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-3-end-synopsis-mcu/ The official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hints that the events of the movie may lead to the end of the team.   Disney+ unveiled the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which teases an emotional ending to James Gunn's beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogy. The synopsis reads, "In Marvel Studios 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."   James Gunn Confirms How Long Thor Spent With the Guardians of the Galaxy https://www.cbr.com/james-gunn-guardians-of-the-galaxy-thor-time/ Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed how long Thor was with the Guardians after the events of Avengers: Endgame.   A fan tweeted at Gunn, asking what happened to the Guardians' old ship, the Benatar, and sought clarification on how much time has passed between when we saw the team in Thor: Love and Thunder and the events of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director claimed that the Benatar is in the garage, and revealed that their new ship, the Bowie, is much larger. He added that the Guardians were only with Thor for a few weeks before embarking on a separate adventure, and claimed a long time has passed since then.   DISNEY+   ‘Daredevil: Born Again': Margarita Levieva & Sandrine Holt Join Disney+ Series https://deadline.com/2022/12/daredevil-born-again-margarita-levieva-amp-sandrine-holt-cast-disney-plus-series-1235189804/   Margarita Levieva (The Deuce) and Sandrine Holt (American Gigolo) are set for major roles opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio in Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel's upcoming revival series on Disney+, sources tell Deadline.   In addition to Cox and D'Onofrio, Levieva and Holt join previously cast Michael Gandolfini. The 18-episode season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere in 2024, four years after the original Daredevil series ended its run on Netflix after three seasons.   REPORT: Michael Gandolfini Signs on for Multiple MCU Projects https://www.cbr.com/michael-gandolfini-marvel-cinematic-universe-contract/ Actor Michael Gandolfini, known for the Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark, has reportedly signed a multi-project deal with Marvel that will begin with Daredevil: Born Again.   News that Gandolfini is joining the upcoming Daredevil show on Disney+ came out earlier this week, but according to Murphy's Multiverse, the actor is closing a deal to appear in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Gandolfini's role in Daredevil: Born Again has not been revealed, but this contract suggests that his character will reappear in future MCU shows or movies later down the line. For his first Marvel role, he's working alongside Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, both of whom are reprising their roles from Netflix's hit Daredevil TV show.   I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here) (From "The Guardians of the … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E1ULv6LcOk https://www.cbr.com/gotg-holiday-special-karaoke-marvel-christmas-carol/ Marvel shared a clip from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, featuring a sing-a-long of the original song "I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime is Here)."   The video features the alt-country band Old 97's as a group of alien musicians who attempt to make sense of Peter Quill's confusing Yuletide lore. Writer/director James Gunn discussed writing the song with frontman Rhett Miller, saying, "I had all these lyrics for it, and it kept changing. I walked around my house, singing into my iPhone and trying to figure out how the song was going to work. And finally, I approached Rhett and asked, 'Will you help me write this song? Because I can't do it by myself.' And he said, 'Absolutely.' What made those first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe connect with people so much? Well, if you're familiar with The Neutral Ground Podcast, you might know my answer, but I have a special guest today in Dr. Michael Nichols, and we are going to geek out over his book: Religion and Myth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We talk about some of the prevalent themes in the first three phases of the MCU: sacrificial fathers, mortality, good vs. evil, and a lot more. You're not going to want to miss this one. Why create sympathetic villains like Killmonger and Gorr, the god butcher? 35:37 Thanos is a much more complex villain than we give him credit for. 39:59 Captain America: Civil War fought the battle of postmodern skepticism and neomodern narrative assurance: am I way off base here? 44:21 What role does Julia Kristeva play in your understanding of the MCU? 48:10 How do Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier teach us about purity/impurity? 52:16 I made my case for why I think Thor:Ragnarok was terrible. My guest is much better at discussing it. 56:08 How does Gilgamesh's exploration of mortality connect with the MCU? 1:03:04 Are Marvel films and shows becoming too geared toward an older audience and closed off to younger people? 1:04:36 What did you learn from your family when you all re-watched the Marvel films together again? 1:06:50 My closing thoughts: the love and the thunder // WEBSITE // Head over to the website to learn more about me and to contact me. https://theneutralgroundpodcast.com/ // EPISODE SUGGESTIONS // 1. Hello and welcome to Tasty Pages, a podcast from Cooking The Books. In this triumphant episode, we chat about our recent road trip to Chicago, our visit to a classic neighborhood block party and an Eater San Francisco article about all of the cookbooks featured in Hulu's buzz worthy series 'The Bear'. An unexpected dog-initiated mishap (not to worry, nothing gross) midway through the show forces us to take an unplanned break from recording (a first for the podcast!). Our show question is: What is your most extravagant kitchen purchase? Then, we chat about our featured cookbook, 'Milk Street: The World In a Skillet' by Christopher Kimball. For our Gastro Obscura segment - Victoria takes us to Canada for a truly strange centuries-old ritual involving fur traders, libations and a flaming boar head! The Verbivore mentions a quote from the writers of Infinity War and Endgame. The full quote is: - “And that's why [Captain America] can't die in this movie, because he was willing to die in the first one. That's not a journey.”The Verbivore references a quote by Tony Stark in The Avengers where he realizes his similarities with Loki. Here is that full dialogue exchange:Yondu : You can fool yourself and everyone else, but you can't fool me. I know who you are.Rocket : You don't know anything about me, loser.Yondu : I know everything about you. I know you play like you're the meanest and the hardest but actually you're the most scared of all.Rocket : Shut up!Yondu : I know you steal batteries you don't need and you push away anyone who's willing to put up with you 'cause just a little bit of love reminds you of how big and empty that hole inside you actually is.Rocket : I said shut up!Yondu : I know them scientists what made you, never gave a rat's ass about you!Rocket : I'm serious, dude!Yondu : Just like my own damn parents who sold me, their own little baby, into slavery. QUOTES FOR REFLECTION “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.” ~Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788 – 1860) “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and will never be.” ~Thomas Jefferson “To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he's doing is good, or else that it's a well-considered act in conformity with natural law… Ideology – that is what gives evil doing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others' eyes, so that he won't hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors.” ~Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago “Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.” ~Abraham Lincoln “He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy.” ~Yondu, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 “The truth will set you free. But not until it is finished with you.” ~David Foster Wallace SERMON PASSAGE John 8:31-47 (ESV) 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free'?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. 38 I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.” 39 They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40 but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

We talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Ego, Starlord, Sovereign, Yondu, Ravagers, Mantis, Adam Warlock, and more! Talk with us on Twitter. Links from the discussion… Ayesha the High Priestess is closely associated with Adam Warlock in the comics. The Sovereigns don't exist in the comics. Ego the living planet isn't Peter Quill's father and isn't a Celestial. Mantis was trained in martial arts by the Kree who thought she would become the Celestial Madonna. Yondu is a Centaurian. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics. He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy. You can see why he's called Taserface in the comics. Also, he's ridiculous. The original Guardians of the Galaxy was Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki. Adam Warlock played a key role in defeating Thanos in the comics. Not sure what Marvel plans to do with him at this point, if anything.

This episode is a bittersweet one, as it features a voiceover appearance from the late Chadwick Boseman in one of his final appearances as the Wakandan Prince, T'Challa. Young T'Challa has the heart of an adventurer and when he leaves the safety of the dome protecting Wakanda to retrieve his spear, his world is turned upside down when he is picked up by Kraglin and Taser Face, who mistake him for a young Peter Quill. T'Challa is taken to Yondu, and after expressing interest in exploring the stars, he becomes Yondu's ward, and with the Ravagers, they set about to save the universe. This episode features several surprising appearances, and is hilarious enough from start-to-finish to keep you from being saddened at the thought of the "what ifs" of the MCU had Boseman survived his years-long fight with cancer. The beautiful tribute at the end, however, will hit you in the feels. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fandomhybridpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fandomhybridpodcast/support

0:20 BryanWanting to make sure I understand the Spider-Man rights correctly. Obviously, Disney could try and purchase the Spider-Man rights directly from Sony for however many billions that is. But sony could one day be bought by someone like Apple. So then the rights revert back to marvel studios for free, correct? That would explain why A) Sony hasn't been purchased yet because Sony's value is probably half or more of what it is without Spider-Man's or B) why marvel studios hasn't actively (that we know of) tried to acquire the rights to spider-man. Do I have this all correct?19:52 DangerNoodleHey Sean hope all is well. When Tony snapped in endgame and dusting Thanos and his army do you think Gamora was dusted as well? Thanks. I love the podcast.24:30 StevenMy question is about a sequence of events at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: We see Quill give Kraglin the repaired arrow that Yondu used, and we also see Yondu “cremated” along with his fin. In a post-credit scene, we see Kraglin practicing with a fin and an arrow. If this is Yondu's fin, does he do this before the ceremony? Or, does he find a new fin?Follow up: do you think Kraglin had to undergo a surgery to have the fin implanted?26:18 ChavezM77Hey Sean! Hope all is well with you. I have been doing a MCU rewatch since I now have a sweet surround sound set up and most of the films on 4K discs. Do you think Tony would be worthy now of picking up Mjolner since he sacrificed himself? After reading tweets from endgame watch party with the Russos/M&McF, it had me thinking that if Cap wasn't necessarily worthy of lifting Mjolner until after him and Tony reconciled, then would Tony now be worthy after exorcising all of his demons leading up to his sacrifice? I'm talking specifically MCU. Would love to hear your thoughts and I'm sorry if this was already asked. Thanks!32:10 BryanI struggle with the “Superman complex” of Captain Marvel being basically invincible with no perceived weakness. Can you help me get over it?
