We're looking back at our Cheers reunion with John Ratzenberger (aka Cliff Clavin)! John told Ted and Woody about how he pitched his know-it-all Cheers character, his time at the original Woodstock, his take on the now-infamous hooky boat ride, and the multiple times he nearly met his maker. Buckle up, true crime fans—jury selection has begun in the Lori Vallow Daybell trial, and it's already buzzing… literally. Hidden under her courtroom clothes? A RACC Belt—basically a taser vest ready to deliver 70,000 volts if she gets too divine. Let's talk about the challenge ahead for the court while finding a little levity in the shocking details. Will the jurors be nervous sitting this close to a convicted killer of children and former wives? She thinks she's a goddess and this trial already feels like a mashup of Dateline and Cheers (believe it or not, prime time television and Cliff Clavin's shock collar are making a comeback).#LoriDaybell #CharlesVallow #JusticeForCharles #DaybellTrial #VallowTrial #CourtroomDrama #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #ArizonaTrial #CultMom #DoomsdayMom #DoomsdayCult #TrialCoverage #JurySelection #JusticeServed #TrueCrimeObsessed #CrimeStories #CourtTV #MurderTrial #CrimeNews #Dateline #IDchannel #MurderCase #TrialUpdates #TrialWatch #TrueCrimeAddict #CrimeTalk #MurderMystery #TrueCrimeDaily #JusticeSystem #TrialBuzz #BreakingNews #CrimeJunkie #CourtroomLive #TrialDiscussion #JusticeMatters #LoriVallowDaybell #CrimePodcast #TrueCrimePodcast #LegalAnalysis #CrimeCoverage #CultCrime #ShockingTrial #CrimeScene #JusticeForVictims #VallowDaybellTrial #CrimeCommunity #CourtDrama #ProfilingEvil #CrimeAnalysis #JusticeForFamilies #CultLeader #ApocalypticCult #CrimeInvestigation #CrimeStory #DaybellVallow #CourtCase #TrueCrimeFan #TrialReporter #CrimeAlert #CrimeAndJustice #CrimeTime #TrueCrimeNews #LawAndOrder #CultTrueCrime #ShockBelt #CourtSecurity #CrimeBlogger #CrimeVlog #JusticePrevails #CrimeSceneInvestigation #LawEnforcement #JusticeForCharlesVallow #DoomsdayJustice #CultTrial #TrialOfTheYear #CrimeUpdate #JusticeForVictims #CourtroomShock #CourtTVLive #CriminalJustice #TrueCrimeCase #CourtUpdate #JusticeSystemAtWork #CriminalTrial #JusticeDelivered #TrueCrimeFanatic #CrimeWatching #TrueCrimeCoverage #CultInvestigation #TrueCrimeNation #LawNews #TrialWatchers #CrimeFollowers #VallowDaybellMurders #ArizonaJustice #CourtroomControl #JusticeForFamilies #LoriDaybellTrial=======================================Order a copy of Deceived or She Knew No Fear and get the book signed for free! https://www.ProfilingEvil.comDONATE to Profiling Evil: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=T54JX76RZ455SSUPPORT our Podcasts: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1213394/support
This is Still Here Hollywood. I'm Steve Kmetko. Join me, with today's guest, Cliff Clavin from “Cheers”, John Ratzenberger.A “Hail Mary” pass is pretty much a football term, and of course a prayer, but that's the point.. Several decades ago, one auditioning actor (who was shown the door), held that door open long enough to toss a Hail Mary pass to the producers. That last second pitch landed him the role of an iconic character in one of the biggest TV comedies of the 20th century. In 1990 Lilith Sternin became a bestselling author. The manuscript she was working on before she met Frasier was finally complete. She called it “Good Girls, Bad Boys,” (Cheers S8E18 Severe Crane Damage)2. Much like his father - who in 1974 went through a midlife crisis, he dyed his hair black and bought a motorcycle (Frasier S1E20 Fortysomething)3. He met a number of famous and notable personalities including Alex Trebek ((Cheers S8E14 ‘What is Cliff Clavin'), Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers (Cheers S8E16 Finally: Part 2) and Celtics' great Kevin McHale. (Cheers S9E2 Cheers Fouls Out)4. [P]er the results of a test, Frederick Crane only had an average intelligence. (Cheers S9E7 Breaking In is Hard To Do)5. It didn't help when Frederick's first word was “Norm!” (Cheers S9E7 Breaking In is Hard To Do)6. All the way back in Seattle, a Jack Russell terrier gave birth to a litter of puppies. One of those little creatures would later be adopted by Marty and named Eddie (Frasier S3E24 You Can Go Home Again) (NOTE: This makes Eddie around 2 years old in S1 of Frasier))7. On this November day in particular, he had lunch with his partner Frank and somehow ended up with a goldfish. He named it Eddie. Frank, Marty and fish Eddie ended up driving around Seattle while Marty unloaded his familial woes on his partner. Frasier was once again staying in Boston for Thanksgiving. This bothered Marty more than he let on, but Frank knew. They stopped at a convenience store like they had many times before. Marty didn't get anything, but Frank picked up a slushie. Before they left, Frank decided to go back inside: the frozen concoction wasn't to his liking. (Frasier S9E4 The Return of Martin Crane) This decision brought him face to face with a man named Hicks who was holding up the store with a .38 special. (Frasier S8E23 A Day in May) Frank got lucky: Marty Crane intervened. He stopped the robbery and saved Frank, but for this good deed, Marty took a bullet to the hip. (Frasier S8E15 Hooping Cranes) As he lay bleeding out on the ground, the ever stoic Marty didn't shed a tear. (Frasier S4E8 Our Father, Whose Art Ain't Heaven) 8. Marty was taken to St. Bartholomew's Hospital and Frasier left Boston right away to tend to his ailing father. (Frasier S2E6 The Botched Language of Cranes) 9. Marty was brusque with his son, almost cruel, this moment of vulnerability showing a mean streak in the patriarch. (Frasier S9E4 The Return of Martin Crane)10. He was terrified. He never wanted to take a risk, he never left the house, he'd duck for cover every time a car backfired. (Frasier S10E9 Don't Go Breaking My Heart)11. Frasier always had problems talking about death. He thought that if you talked about it, it would happen. (Cheers S10E11, I'm OK, You're Defective)12. After his father was shot, Frasier finally drew up a will (Cheers S10E11, I'm OK, You're Defective)13. Lilith and Frasier took Frederick to see popular children's entertainer Nanny G on his birthday. (Cheers S10E16 One Hugs, the Other Doesn't)14. In April of ‘92 Lilith began working on a study with renowned scientist Dr. Louis Pascal. He was developing a subterranean dwelling called an Eco-Pod and Lilith was assisting him. (Cheers S11E7 The Girl in the Plastic Bubble)15. “The Crane Train to Mental Well-Being” lecture tour and video cassette. (Wings S3E16 Planes, Trains, and Visiting Cranes)16. She allowed a latent attraction to her new colleague surface, and the two had a steamy one-time fling. (Cheers S11E6 Teaching with the Enemy)
Written & Starring Stephen WinchellGuest Starring Adam Goron as "Quinn"Audio Production & Recording by Adam GoronDirected by Lara UnnerstallMusic by Takuya Yoshida & Stephen Winchell REFERENCES:1. But for his very first job he worked as a prison counselor. (Cheers S8E26 Cry Harder)2. Perhaps Frasier was inspired by a bizarre chapter in his childhood; Marty used to take him and Niles to the police station and made a game out of locking them in an empty cell. He would then quote unquote “lose” the key. (Frasier S1E15 You Can't Tell a Crook By His Cover)3. Frasiers' operation was impressive from the get go - his office was in a downtown high rise (Cheers S5E24 Cheers the Motion Picture)4. He employed a full time secretary - a Mrs. McGrady, a woman who had been working for Frasier's mother since 1966. (Cheers S4E25 Strange Bedfellows P2)5. That's why he found himself at Golden Brook - a sanatorium in Connecticut (Cheers S3E2 Rebound P2)- in the fateful spring in 1984. He was working there as a consultant.6. Two female patients had a disagreement about a game of croquet and things turned violent. Frasier stepped in and broke it up (Cheers S3E2 Rebound P2)7. Let's travel further back in time to 1889, the year a tavern opened up at 112 1/2 Beacon Street in Boston. (Cheers S8E6 The Stork Brings a Crane)8. She introduced them all to Frasier, and there he met Ernie “Coach” Pantusso, Carla Tortelli, Cliff Clavin, Norm Peterson, and “Mayday” Malone himself. (Cheers S3E1 Rebound P1)9. He began a marital relations group to help his patients navigate their rocky relationships. (Cheers S3E3 I Call Your Name)10. He attended and presented at a prestigious seminar about multiple personalities at the University of Chicago (Cheers S3E4 Fairy Tales Can Come True)11. [He] attended a symposium to discuss nerve endings. (Cheers S3E12 A Ditch In Time)12. But another Crane wasn't at all thrilled about Frasier's choice of lover. In the fall of 1984 Hester visited her son in Boston. (Cheers S3E8 Diane Meets Mom)13. In early 1985, a 32-year old timber heiress was in distress - the gates to her stately home weren't opening. As she banged her fists - and later a tire-iron - against them, Niles - who happened to be driving by - pulled over to assist. When their hands touched they both felt a spark and low and behold, the gates opened. That heiress' name was…Maris. (Frasier S1E17 A Midwinter's Night Dream)14. These two happy couples did meet in Seattle in 1985. (Frasier S3E14 The Show Where Diane Comes Back)15. He had been chosen as that year's visiting scholar at the University of Bologna and was to spend 6 months in Italy.(Cheers S3E22 Cheerio, Cheers)
Return from Alaska, steal a little black book and name 3 people that haven't been in your kitchen as you listen to our discussion of S8E14 - What Is... Cliff Clavin?
Cliff Clavin is married to Doogie’s mom? Generic products that are legally distinct from Amway? A roast beef and Gefilte fish sandwich? This episode’s got a lot going for it, and a lot that makes no sense. But at its center is guest star Pat Hingle, and that means that most of our new segments this week are game shows. For some reason. Jason Snell, Philip Michaels and David J. Loehr.
