Send us a textHow do West End lead singers handle vocal demands, perfectionism, and the pressure of 8 shows a week?
Send us a textHow do actors and singers deal with performing in long-running shows? And what is the role of a vocal coach - is vocal technique only part of the puzzle? In this episode of This Is A Voice, we sit down with Claire Underwood — the vocal coach behind Hamilton, Les Misérables, Cabaret, Phantom of the Opera and more in London's West End — to explore:
With Claire Underwood of the University of Cincinnati's Artlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability and Children, Youth, Environments (CYE) Journal What does empathy look like in young children? How can we nurture it? When do we just need to step back and let children sort through the complexities of the natural world? Claire Underwood recently participated in a Community of Practice centred on using a Two-Worlds Approach to develop an empathy model for young children. This work was rooted in Natural Curiosity's four-branch framework of children's environmental inquiry informed by Indigenous perspectives. In this fascinating discussion, Claire shares the findings from the CoP as well as stories from educators who have implemented the empathy model in their teaching. Guest: Claire Underwood is a Doctoral Student at the University of Cincinnati, where she is the Editorial Assistant for the Children, Youth, Environments (CYE) Journal and conducts research with the Artlitt Center for Education, Research, & Sustainability. After more than a decade working in non-profit leadership and community organizing focusing on environmental and social justice, Claire returned to academia to earn her Master's in Environmental Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. There, her work focused on the impact of nature-based learning on children's empathy development. Claire co-designed and co-facilitated a seven-month professional learning experience that supported 15 early childhood educators in deepening their empathy practices through intentional & respectful engagement with Indigenous peoples and perspectives. Through her work, Claire seeks to support teachers, children, and their families in creating experiences that affirm children's agency, support their connection to the Earth, and work meaningfully together toward a just and sustainable present and future. I thought that I could cover both the gender discussion and nationalization in about 45 minutes, but that did not happen. So, this week, we get into gender with the scene between James Taggart and Betty Pope. The next episode (#32) will discuss nationalization.Jonathan's understanding of contemporary gender theory and research is grounded in the text Gender: Ideas, Interactions, Institutions by Lisa Wade and Myra Marx Ferree. In the discussion about gender and politics, Jonathan mentions Margaret Thatcher and Julia Gillard (see her famous speech). A fictional figure, Claire Underwood, demonstrates some of the "self-immolation" that Jonathan thinks Ayn Rand had in mind when she wrote her essay (in this book) about not wanting a woman to be president. My five themes to explore in this podcast's close read of Atlas Shrugged are:What is human nature?Straw-man arguments and their impact on the world Ayn Rand creates.Dagny Taggart as a true hero. How empathy can be de-legitimized.What is Capitalism and what is wrong with it? Februar 2022
Do you enjoy watching American political dramas and are you a fan of Kevin Spacey? Then, it's impossible that you've missed the multiple-Emmy-winning series House of Cards. Packed with political shenanigans, the show's compelling narrative style and plot points ensure that it's counted among the top shows of all time. Here are a few facts about the seven-Emmy-winning show that you probably didn't know:1. In the epic ending of Season 2, the sound made by Frank Underwood's ring as he bangs his fist against the desk is also a part of the sound effect that now plays right before the beginning of Netflix's Original Series and films.2. Two weeks prior to its official release, Season 3 was accidentally released on Netflix and later pulled down around 17 minutes later.3. In Season 4, Claire Underwood uses her maiden name, referring to herself as ‘Claire Hale Underwood', which is very similar to Hillary Clinton who has referred to herself as ‘Hillary Rodham Clinton' throughout her career.4. After working with Robin Wright in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, David Fincher directly offered her the role of Claire Underwood in House of Cards, promising her that she would have great inputs in the creation of the character. These are some lesser-known trivia and facts about House of Cards. I shall be back again with another podcast with a new film or a show. Until then, it's your host Nikhil outta here.

Kollektives Trinken. Auf die Familie. Skol.

I'd originally planned on doing a full show breakdown of House of Cards after binge watching in February but 73 episodes broken down in one podcast episode, solo? That was too big a bite for even me to chow down on! So I decided to break off a manageable piece and talked about one of it's main characters: the mercurial, magnetic Claire Underwood. (Please be warned there are some spoilers here for those that haven't seen the show!) Short and sweet. Feedback is definitely encouraged! Hope you all enjoy! The Princess Bride and Lady in the Water Nostalgia can be tricky. Do I like this thing because I saw it when I was a kid, or do I find it genuinely compelling? The Princess Bride, Directed by Meathead from All in the Family and starring Major Cabot Forbes and Claire Underwood, relays the story of a Grandpa reading to his sick grandson. "Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles"; this movie has it all. Lady in the Water, directed by the man who brought you The Last Airbender and starring the supervillain Rhino and the superhero Silk Spectre (II) is the story of an apartment complex, its residents, and a foretold fate. Happy New Year everyone! Hope you didn't forget about us, or about the last episode of Spoiling Ourselves, because for the second episode in a row we're going deep on a political drama where a wife inherits the Presidency from her husband. Unfortunately, the show we're discussing this week is House of Cards, a show that would have been much better had its male lead not turned out to be an unrepentant sexual predator. We talk about the many murders and the even more many sexual partners of Frank and Claire Underwood, plus we advocate for a return to rule by the British Monarchy. Long live Queen Elizabeth!
Netflixin poliittinen draamasarja House of Cards on nyt saapunut päätökseensä. I'm Forrest...Forrest Gump-Alan SilvestriD: Hello, my dear audience, welcome back to VOE. l am yourold friend. Hey, would you like to tell me your IQ .S: You&`&re so smart and you can guess it. Well, OK, let me tellyou. It is 115. But why are you asking this question suddenlytoday?D: Because the hero in our movie today is a man with low IQ.But you should not underestimate him. He has done many greatthings and received the President&`&s interview as a hero. S: Ah, I see. You&`&re talking about Forrest Gump. He&`&s a reallygreat man. D: Yes, especially he doesn&`&t forget the original heart whenevery eyes are for him and keep the pure goodness, which isalso my most admired quality.插曲1I'm Forrest...Forrest Gump-Alan SilvestriI: Forrest Gump is a simple man with a low I.Q. but goodintentions. He is running through childhood with his best andonly friend Jenny.SH: His &`&mama&`& teaches him the ways of life and leaves him tochoose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service inVietnam, finding new friends called Dan and Bubba, he winsmedals, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires peopleto jog, starts a ping-pong craze, creates the smiley, writesbumper stickers and songs, donates to people and meets thepresident several times. I: However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only thinkof his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran, who has messed upher life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is thatanyone can love anyone. SH: As we all know, the theme of this film is I'm Forrest...Forrest Gump. There is no doubt that it is really classical. It justlike the life of Gump's, simple but gorgeous. At the beginningof the film, a feather floated in audiences' view with thisfamous song.I: It also float in our hearts. It was composed by AlanSdlverstri, who composed some famous films' themes, like TheBodyguard, Night at the Museum and so on. He won the 67theBest Original Song of the Academy Awards with this song.插曲2You're No Different-Alan SilvestriD: Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, who played Forrest in ForrestGump, born in July 9th, 1956 in California. He is a two-timeAcademy Award-winning American film actor, Emmy-winningdirector, voice-over artist and movie producer. He had starredin family-friendly and screwball comedies before achievingnotable success as a dramatic actor in "Philadelphia" and"Forrest Gump". C: As of September 24, 2006, Hanks is the highest-grossinglead actor of all time, with a combined gross of over USD$3.3billion and a worldwide gross of nearly $6 billion. In ForrestGump, Hanks explained what appealed to him about the script:"When I read the script for Gump, I saw it as one of those kindof grand, hopeful movies that the audience can go to and feel ."D: I think Tom Hanks is a phenomenal actor! He has achievedremarkable success in his career. Even greater though, for me,is his contribution in supporting same-sex marriage. His effortspaid from the mundane, step by step, the hard way towards theidol is the real reason why people like them.C: Robin Gayle Wright, born in April 8, 1966, had playedJenny in Forrest Gump. She is an American actress anddirector. She starred as Claire Underwood in the Netflixpolitical drama web television series House of Cards, for whichshe won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – TelevisionSeries Drama in 2013, making her the first actress to win aGolden Globe for a web television series. Wright has alsoreceived consecutive "Primetime Emmy " nominations in theOutstanding Lead Actress – Drama category for "House ofCards" between 2013 and 2017.插曲3You're No Different-Alan SilvestriSH: How brilliant the plot is! Due to many wonderful part, ithas a great influence in the society.S: Right. This movie is exposed to such a complex socialcontext, so the purity and insistence of humanity arehighlighted to be very valuable. This is why the audience aremoved by it and affects many people. In this movie, Jenny&`&sattitude to Gumpchanged with the variation of the society.Jenny went through thick and thin and back to Gump in theend. That shows what is true love.SH: However, it is not only a love story but also a powerfulcharming movie. It tells about an amazing story that teachesyou so much about life and the meaning of it.S: Yeah. As the classic line, "My mama always said life waslike a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get. "Gives many people strength. Like many other people, themeaning of this movie to me is that although life may throw ustrials and tribulations like a box of chocolates but we have tojust bite into it and get through it even if we do not like it.插曲4You Can't Sit Here-Alan SilvestriD: How time flies! Today&`&s program is here. I hope you cankeep a pure heart in this floating world.S: That&`&s a simple also a hard thing to do. Well, we&`&ll see younext Friday. What would a House of Cards spin-off look like?House of Cards was released this week and Char and Tristan couldn't be happier. The Netflix original with Frank and Claire Underwood is one of their favorites and a lot of the world feels the same way. This episode is not a review of Season Five because it was recorded a day before its release. So there is no feasible way that it could be spoiled for you.Your Punch It crew explores almost every single avenue with what this hypothetical show could look like. Should it move forward? Alongside? Or should it be a prequel? Who would be the protagonist and more importantly, would they talk to the camera? What would you like to see in a House of Cards spin-off if there ever was one?

VJ aka the Brown James Bond and Toly aka T $ Malone stay out in the psycho lanes dominating for your info-tainment! Chaidez aka Chai-T pops in a few minutes in this one too! Toly demonstrates the Lion King call. VJ and Toly's friend Marshall is a good guy. The difficulties of wearing condoms prevail. Toly's good friend Rachel has a nice inheritance coming. VJ texts on the "mic". VJ tells everyone that his number "is just for you and your eyes only." The movie Top Gun is homo-erotic. House of Cards and how everyone needs a Meechum on their squad. Claire Underwood maybe the most beautiful woman in the world. You have to grind forever before you blow up overnight. Carlos Boozer. Halle Berry in Swordfish vs Claire Underwood aka Robin Wright in House of Cards. VJ tries to link with F-Dawg's friends. Japan, Germany and the WWII porn connection. If you date Toly at least pretend to like sports. Gamestop saved many a shopping trip. VJ and Toly never want to listen to the Pshow... but VJ has to. Is The Psycho Pshow good at all? The reason why Lowkey Lonely is discussed at all. How Toly solidified his place on the Pshow without realizing. The big sh*t vs the little sh*t. Chaidez is back and offers VJ a lot of Onnit products. Taking testosterone seems like a slippery slope. The kind old man vs the mean old witch stereotype might be due to just testosterone and estrogen levels changing. Once again we return to our Hatewatch segment, which this week, we're calling Hatewatch of Cards. Kathryn talks about House of Cards' most recent season and one particular meal prepared by Claire Underwood. We also kick off our Apology Tour with an apology that's been a long time coming. For our long segment, we consider Mo Ryan's recent Variety piece on the dominance of television comedies, and talk about whether comedy is ascendant on TV today, and why. We breeze through a long list of amazing comedy on TV right now, talk about TV drama's over-reliance on sad white men, and think about whether comedy ages better than drama.

On the podcast this week Screen Verdict talks about everyone's favourite politician (not Donald Trump) as we dive into all the schemes and machinations of Frank and Claire Underwood throughout Season 3 of House of Cards. We discuss how to tell someone that they've burned your steak, how confident we are in Donald Blythe as a Vice President, and propose a new form of electing officials in the form a of a TV show, "Leaders Have Talent". Matt also plays a game with Jonathan (join in at home) in which we try to separate quotes from either Frank Underwood or Foghorn Leghorn.
