Are you coasting through life, following whichever path the river takes you down or are you making specific decisions based on how you want to live your life and be remembered by? The difference between the two can be the result of having or not having personal empowerment. Feeling disempowered isn't a feeling many people aspire to as it can be a negative mental state to be in. Most people will often experience lack of motivation, depression, resentment and many other negative emotions with it. Feeling empowered on the other hand, can be truly rewarding and fulfilling and many aim to live a life in this way. But how do we actually achieve self empowerment? What does that truly look like and what steps can we take to move towards living in this way? LET....IT....GO!!! Ok easier said than done, however the perks of doing this are second to none. Holding on to negative experiences can wreak havoc on your mental wellbeing. I am not talking about long-term stressors or trauma. I am talking about those little day to day moments that can pop up and really f*ck up your day. Being late for work because of traffic, receiving a shi**y email, an argument with a partner, spilling your morning cappuccino down your white shirt.... these kind of experiences! It is easy to react but it is better to breathe, take note and respond. Some situations are just out of our control however, what is within our control is how we respond to these. If you typically hold on to these emotions - anger, blame, frustration then this podcast is for you! ******** If you have enjoyed this episode, please support me by subscribing and leaving a review as this really does go a long way. Change can be freaking scary no matter how little or large the change may be. The human brain likes routine, structure and familiarity. When something happens to cause a kink in our usual routine, it can send the brain into overdrive and may even cause a complete break down. (I'm picturing a computer overheating and exploding!) Thing is, change is very normal and very common. We will experience change throughout our entire lifetime. Jobs, homes, partners, pets, cars, gyms, friendships, diets and so on. Negative bias individuals struggle even more with change as they place a heavy focus on the negative outcomes especially when the change is still in the future. This way of thinking can lead to overwhelming stress, anxiety, worry or depression. To get a grip on change, we must understand the different types and how we mentally approach future thinking. In this episode I discuss potential areas of improvement for change management and how to embrace your whirlwind of a life without going into complete melt down. ******** If you have enjoyed this episode, please support me by subscribing and leaving a review as this really does go a long way. If anyone knows how it feels to be a 'shy girl', it's me! Since high school I was the shy one. An extreme blusher who did anything she could to prevent being faced with awkward and uncomfortable situations. This also meant I held myself back in many areas of my life. The blushing, shyness and feeling immature continued right through to my late 20's and further impacted my social life and career. As an ambitious woman, I saw this as a huge problem. In the past few years, and since diving deep into the world of NLP, I have had my own transformation. I no longer believe to be a 'shy girl'. In fact I now see myself as a 'try girl'. Open to new experiences, ready to embrace my fears and no longer afraid of other peoples opinions. This had enabled me to start living life with more passion, purpose and joy. In this episode I share with you what I believe to be the key process for a 'shy to try transformation'. As with anything, this does not happen overnight.... But once you understand the power of your own mind and how to unlock your own potential.... it makes for a wonderful starting point to becoming who you truly want to be, away from those shy girl chains. ******** If you have enjoyed this episode, please support me by subscribing and leaving a review as this really does go a long way. The birthday was a blast! But it was also an incredible experience and an eye opener. I realised how different my life is now from the shy and timid girl I was once. The blushing, anxious, scared girl would have turned down opportunities and ignored her true desires for fear of making herself look like a fool. The woman I am now does the opposite. She knows how to embrace opportunities that excite her and how to shut down fears that once caused a barrier to her saying yes! In this episode, I speak of my unusual birthday experience and what I believe was key to my growth in confidence and courage. ******** If you have enjoyed this episode, please support me by subscribing and leaving a review as this really does go a long way. Do I? Don't I? Should I? Shouldn't I? Indecisiveness is a momentum killer. A progress barrier and just a bit of a nuisance full stop. We may experience it when deciding what to pick from a restaurant menu, when planning how to spend our day off, or whether to quit our job.... yes.... it can be experienced in all aspects of life. In this episode I explain the number one reason why we become indecisive and how you can start exploring your own path towards resolving this. I have always struggled with self doubt. It still gets me! One of the differences between those who accelerate through personal goals and those who don't, is self doubt. Have you ever felt like your confidence and self esteem has held you back in life? That's because it is! Which can be tough to hear I know. But let me provide a positive light by saying YOU can change that. By understanding self doubt and how it affects your life, you can better understand what needs to be done to stop that from continuing. And guess what..... It all starts in your mind! Oh hey..... Been some time. In fact we can actually say that my previous episode was uploaded last year! Damn. But here I am here.... back baby.... after some needed time off and sorting out my life (kinda) I am so ready and excited for all the incredible shows that I will be bringing to your ears this year. Together we are going to have a f*cking fantastic journey. To start off the year, I want to talk about reconnecting to our true desires. Every now and then we can feel a little.... lost. Unsatisfied with our life and not really knowing where to start when trying to resolve that. Most of the time this 'feeling lost' is due to us losing a connection to our authentic selves. You know.... that woman who isn't being a mum, a manager, a friend, a wife.... the woman who is sitting patiently at your very core waiting until you have 10 minutes spare away from all the chaos and demands around you. Sometimes we forget what we are really passionate about, what we truly love, what gets our arms tingling and a big smile spread across our face. We forget because over time we have adapted and moulded into our surroundings. When this happens it can result in us plodding through a life that is no longer serving a purpose, that is unsatisfying and causes more sadness than happiness. Reconnecting to your authentic self is the only way to resolve 'feeling lost'. In this episode I share my insight and experience on this and a great tip on how to get started to reconnecting. Burnout is real. And doesn't your girl know it! I've experienced burnout more times than I like to admit. I'm a busy individual. Busy is a love/hate relationship. Some of us just don't enjoy the simple art of doing f*** all. Yet at the same time we hate being busy. Why? Because it often leads to stress. Stress in itself can be quite damaging when left unattended. If we allow stress to build up without ever addressing it, it will lead to burnout. When you hit burnout you feel completely drained both mentally and physically, everyone and everything annoys you, your emotions are all over the shop, you hit a creative block and there's no soul left inside of you. Just an empty shell running on reserve. Ideally, we don't want to ever hit this level. But sometimes we just do. Sometimes we fail to recognise the warning signs until it's too late. So what can we do? We can manage it. In quick, active and effective ways that don't cut into our busy schedules too much. Because there has to be a realistic balance. In this episode you will discover how to 'address the stress' in simple but effective ways. I'M FREE! What a powerful statement to make. And truly a breathe of fresh air. Do you know what really sucks in life? When we feel trapped! When we are not doing the things we love or living the life we want to because we feel chained down or held back by something. What's worse is that we sometimes don't even recognise how trapped we are. We spend a lot of our days on 'auto pilot'. We do what we do on a daily basis because it is what we know and have become accustomed to. But is that enough? In this episode I discuss what being free means to me and how I have transitioned from feeling trapped and unsatisfied to feeling like an absolute boss at my life - or at least on my way to becoming that! There is also a sneaky activity thrown in at the end, which is intended to help you think deeper about what free means to you and how you can start making changes TODAY! Change can be scary. I get that! Change is... uncomfortable. But there comes a point in when we have to think about this comfort zone and if it is really providing us with the life we want to live. Why? Because if you stay comfortable and you never push your boundaries, challenge yourself, take risks, be curious or create change; then you will stay in the same place that you are in RIGHT NOW. If we look 10 years into your future, would you be happy seeing yourself still doing the exact same as what you're doing now? Do you feel fulfilled by this vision? I may be wrong, but I'm guessing it's a no. When we just stay in our comfort zone we are choosing not to develop, experience and learn. Overtime this lead to feeling unsatisfied, regret and envy towards others who are living the life we could only daydream about. It leads us to feeling uncomfortable. We are uncomfortable with our situation. We are struggling each day. Financially, mentally, emotionally, physically.. The best way to avoid this? Get out your comfort zone! I invite you to do something every single day that challenges you. It doesn't have to be huge. Just small actions that you WANT to do but have always felt too challenging in the past. It's time to push that little bit further and discover what you're really capable of! Emotional eating can be a result of many factors and some people may struggle to connect the dots. In today's show, I discuss the top 4 causes of emotional eating based on research and feedback from the women I help on a daily basis. 'No carbs before Marbs', 'Carbs make you fat', 'Carbs are bad for you'.... recognise these headlines? Probably because you have seen them a lot in media headlines are promoted by celebrity influencers. It is these type of one line headers that can often spark negative relationships with food. There is so much more to these stories but we do not always have the time or really care to dive into the detail. So we read the heading and take it as gospel. We then tell our friends about this news and the Chinese whispers begin. That is how quickly something can be misread, shared and cause damage to many who fall victim. I fell victim! In my younger years, I suffered with ED and my relationship with food is general was very negative. Therefore, I was heavily attracted to any news or magazine articles surrounding food. My problem was that, like many, I did not read the full article. I saw the headline and chose to believe whatever that said. This led to my cutting or avoiding certain foods from my diet that I had 'been told' were bad for me and my weight loss goals. Well I am here to tell you that I bloody love carbs! I eat them every day and I eat a lot of them. To feel this free, without guilt or shame or worry is incredible after experiencing such trauma and neglect. And you know the best part? I am actually in the best shape that I have ever been. I am stronger, I have more energy, I am more focused and I am finally achieving my health and fitness goals. There are pro's and con's to eating a high carb or low carb diet but as explained in this podcast, I am not here to provide or replace medical advice or address health conditions. I am simply here to tell you that if you are afraid to eat carbs because of this belief that they will make you fat, please at least dig a little deeper into the science. We hear about calories all the time but there is very little talk about what a calorie actually is and the role they have to play on our health. Calories seem to have developed a negative relationship within the health industry. We are taught to be 'calorie conscious' and over time this can evolve into believing that 'calories are bad'. This is simply not the case. Calories are amazing because they ensure we SURVIVE. In this episode, I break down calories and explain why they are ESSENTIAL, how to categorise calories and how you can utilise them for optimal health and to achieve your health goals. I hope you enjoy this episode and if any of the information here resonates with you then please do leave me a review and say hey. Obviously 5 stars goes a long way and really helps a gal out! We talk about how great exercise can be to change our body shape but there is so much more to it. Exercise is essential for optimal health because it supports our mobility, the way our body functions and our brain health. Looking good is a great goal to have, but does it lose value when you can no longer crawl around with your 1 year old baby, or when you struggle to carry the weekly groceries, or when you are unable to focus and organise yourself to get a job done? Luckily these benefits come hand in hand with exercise. There is a large focus on the way our bodies look, however the way our bodies function will, in the long run, serve you a higher purpose. Whether that is your focus right now is entirely up to you but having a listen to this podcast may open your eyes to seeing exercise and fitness in a different light. This in itself can be another motivator to get you moving and to continue striving for a healthier and more active lifestyle. I hope you enjoy this episode and if any of the information here resonates with you then please do leave me a review and say hey. Obviously 5 stars goes a long way and really helps a gal out! Motivation can be a hard thing to come by, especially when we feel like everything is just too much. There are ways in which we can manipulate motivation by looking into the different types. These being intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external). Simply put, internal motivation is that in which comes from the pure enjoyment of doing something, for example a walk in the sunshine. External motivation comes from outside sources, for example progress check-ins. When thinking about your health, understanding which of these suits your individual personality can help determine the success of your goals. For example, if you know that you need external sources to get you motivated, then you may hire a coach who will hold you accountable with weekly check-ins. Likewise if you find that you work best when it comes internally, then you may try a variety of exercises until you find one that doesn't 'feel like a chore'. Join me as I explain further and hopefully I help you to discover your true motivators. So here we are at the end of February, which also means the last episode of the Self Love series. With that being said, I hope this past month has been a reminder of how important it is to look after ourselves, both physically and mentally. Many of us have experienced the dreaded 'gremlins' in our head that say nasty things like "you cannot do it" or "you are not good enough" or "you will fail" Most commonly, these gremlins say these due to past experiences. Somewhere along the way, an event has happened that has led to this belief about yourself. Where it may 'feel real', this type of thought usually doesn't hold true or have any solid facts to back it up. For most of these thoughts, we could probably class them as 'fake news'. This is where using affirmations come in. By affirming the facts, you may be able to silence the gremlins. You work with what you know and not what you believe. These are very different! In this episode we look into the use of affirmations for self development and how they can be implemented on a daily basis, to help you grow with confidence and reveal your potential. I hope you enjoy this episode and if any of the information here resonates with you then please do leave me a review and say hey. Obviously 5 stars goes a long way and really helps a gal out! How did we get to week 3 of February already? Thankfully we will have some news of "getting back to normal" soon enough. This past year has certainly had a knock on effect on people's wellbeing and mental state as charities report an increase in calls from those seeking support. This is devastating news and my heart goes out to anyone who is struggling right now. The most important thing we can do for ourselves is to put our wellbeing first and prevent getting into such a place. The sooner we realise the importance of our mental health, the better! The advice on today's show isn't just for those who are facing a hard time right now, but also for those who may know of someone who is; and can perhaps provide some advice. It's also great to raise awareness of mental health and talk about realistic actions that we can start implementing today to improve our own mental state. Check the links below for further support and guidance around mental health. It's the month of LOVE!! We continue with the self love series. If you haven't already, check out the other episodes in this series. Today we talk about nourishment. As fitness queens, it is easy to get caught up in the aesthetic goals as we watch our bodies change and transform. A healthy body and soul is one that begins from the inside. As the saying goes, 'You are what you eat'. Fitness goals setting often focuses on the amount of consumed macros, these being carbohydrates, fats and proteins. However, micro nutrients play a vital role in your overall health and wellbeing and contribute largely to your fitness and health goals. Discover the importance of nourishment and how you can look to put more focus on your inner health. Please note: The information in this podcast does not replace medical advice. If you believe you may have a deficiency or would like to learn more about supplements, please seek advice from your doctor or Nutritionist. It's the month of LOVE! My favourite month because it is also my birth month. Do you ever take time for yourself? When was the last time you gave yourself some TLC and worked on YOU! Self love is all about respecting and appreciating yourself. This can often be pushed to one side and our focus can be put on others around us. This is OK but it is important also that you take time to appreciate yourself. After all, we need to learn to love ourselves before we can truly accept someone else loving us. If you suffer with low confidence and self esteem then self love may be an area you find challenging. That is why I have dedicated this whole month to a series of episodes that will provide some advice and ways in which you can start working on loving yourself. This episode is the first of four episodes in the Self Love series. To kick off, we discuss how exercise plays an important role in self care and how to utilise it in the best way. Can you think of a situation where you felt so uncomfortable that all you could think about was how to get out of it? That's the moment when you are faced with a big decision - to 'Fight or Flight'? Both of these are natural human instincts when faced with such situations and unfortunately some of us choose Flight nearly every time! I have struggled with confidence for most of my life. As an 'expert blusher' my path in life has been very much determined by my self confidence. There have been moments where my heart wanted to take a certain route in life, but my confidence said No! I believe it has held me back for most of my young adult years. It is safe to say that with a little work I have been able to recognise the damaging effect that this has, and could continue to, cause if I did not take action. With small daily steps you CAN and WILL overcome low self confidence and start to build the life you've always wanted. It is possible for anyone and everyone, including YOU! Is it just me or is there an abundance of material and advice out there for losing weight but not a whole lot for gaining? As someone who has struggled with a poor relationship with food in the past, gaining weight hasn't always been the easiest ride. However, as my current goal is to bulk up AKA gain more muscle, a requirement for me to achieve this is to be in a calorie surplus and gain some weight. There are right ways and wrong ways of doing this as I explain in this podcast but the most important thing is learning HOW to be ok with gaining a few pounds and not losing your shit over it. I'm back! This ass is once again on furlough as the gyms close across the UK. I want to use this time to bring back the podcast and as I promised in this episode I will try damn hard to keep this going even when the gyms reopen and I return to my crazy ass days at work. This week I want to talk about the journey of goal setting. A quote I recently came across inspired this podcast as it really hit home. Our goal setting isn't about taking a long and patient time or sprinting our way through, it's about being content with the series of peaks and valleys that we will face along the way. This time of year we tend to see an increase in individuals looking to lose fat and shape up for the summer months. In this episode I dive into fat loss, what this means and how to achieve it safely and effectively. I discuss the increasing demand for Juice Dieting around this time of year and why I do not support them and why this type of 'quick fix' dieting can have multiple negative effects and be damaging for your health. You will learn how safely and effectively achieve fat loss without restrictions and worrying over numbers on the weighing scales. My message today is that if you really care about your body and health then fat loss is something that should be seen as a positive lifestyle adaption and not some quick fix. These types of restrictive diets do not last, can destroy healthy relationships with food, promote ill health and can set you on a path to yoyo dieting. Learn how to do it the right way by tuning in! In light of Mental Health Awareness Week 2020, I have dedicated a few of my podcast episodes to discuss topics around mental health. In this episode I am joined by my fiancé , Dan Stoner, who has kindly volunteered to speak of his personal experience of Bipolar Disorder. Dan is diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2 Rapid Cycling. In this episode he gives listeners an idea of what it can be like living with the symptoms that he experiences on a day to day basis. We aim to define and explain Bipolar as best we can, however experiences can vary from person to person and not all those who have been diagnosed with Bipolar will experience similar to what is discussed here. We hope this provides some insight into life with Bipolar for both the diagnosed individual and their loved ones. Please be aware that this is an extremely raw interview and may cause distress or upset. In light of Mental Health Awareness Week 2020, I have dedicated a few of my podcast episodes to discuss topics around mental health. Today I am joined by Sarah Dosanjh, a psychotherapist who goes by the name of 'The Binge Eating Therapist', and Author of the book 'I Can't Stop Eating.' Sarah specialises in eating disorders and not only has she trained professionally in this area but she has also experienced her own battles with Bulimia and Binge Eating. In this episode we discuss how Bulimia differentiates from other types of eating disorders, signs to notice when a binge is more than overindulging, the triggers that could cause a binge and useful steps towards recovery. We also discuss and compare our experiences of Bulimia and our personal journeys from diagnosis to recovery. Please note that this is a sensitive subject and we do go into detail throughout. If you have or suspect you may have an eating disorder, please consult your health care provider. This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week 2020, therefore I am dedicating a few of my episodes to discuss topics around mental health. Today I am joined by Izzy, a Clinical Team Leader at a psychiatric intensive care unit. Everyday Izzy and her team support individuals suffering with schizophrenia and so she has a good understanding of the illness and some of the struggles a person may face on a daily basis. This podcast is aimed at raising awareness around mental health disorders and encouraging people to look after their own mental health, be open, talk and not suffer in silence. The importance of this is very much highlighted in this episode. The biggest take away for me during this interview is that ANYONE can develop schizophrenia and it can potentially be avoided with the right systems in place and developing a work/life balance to prevent high levels of stress. It is also key to note that we must BE KIND to all. The level of disruption that such an illness can cause is life changing and not for the best. Please take the time to listen and let's do our part in sharing and raising awareness of mental health. For anyone who would like more advice or support on this topic, I have listed some useful websites below: https://www.mind.org.uk/ https://www.rethink.org/ https://www.samaritans.org/ https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/mental-health-helplines/ You can also show your support by volunteering or donating to local charities. Your support saves lives!
Mental Health Awareness Week 2020 is upon us, therefore I have dedicated a number of episodes to discuss topics around mental health. Today I am joined by my good friend Mark, a well experienced and extremely down to earth Yoga Teacher based in Bangkok, Thailand. Mark really is the 'Been there, done that' kinda guy and comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience of the Yoga practise. In this episode we discuss how Yoga can have a positive effect on our mental state, awareness and promote the mind/body connection. We also note how Yoga can compliment a strength training programme (Body Builders listen up!) and improve your form and technique. Whether you are new to Yoga, have dabbled in your local gym class or want to know more about the benefits of Yoga on mental health then I highly recommend giving this one a listen. If you have enjoyed this show, please support me by sharing and subscribing to the podcast. Your support really does mean a lot to me and my coaching service. I am SO excited for you to be introduced to Mark's energy, passion and lovable personality.
