In October 2024, Dan and Lex participated in Elevate -- a summit for podcasters hosting shows in the realm of faith and spirituality -- to connect and collaborate with one another. The gathering took place at BYU – Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah – and was hosted by In Good Faith, a podcast produced by BYUradio. After an amazing few days at the summit, In Good Faith invited Dan and I to be guests on their podcast – to speak a bit about Judaism Unbound, but also for the two of us to reflect on our own relationships to religion and spirituality. The episode was recently released on their feed, and we're excited to release it on ours as well, as a bonus episode. You can subscribe to In Good Faith on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere else that podcasts are found. Episode Description, from In Good Faith:Lex Rofeberg and Dan Libenson talk to Steve Kapp Perry about their organization Judaism Unbound. Lex Rofeberg is Senior Jewish educator for Judaism Unbound -- a digital, Jewish non-profit organization -- and oversees Judaism Unbound's UnYeshiva (a digital center for Jewish learning and unlearning). He produces and co-hosts Judaism Unbound's weekly podcast, and facilitates regular forms of communal gathering, via Zoom, for Jews and Jewish-adjacent non-Jews. Dan Libenson is President of Lippman Kanfer Foundation for Living Torah, which is dedicated to helping Jews and fellow travelers apply Jewish wisdom to thrive and shape a better world. He is also the co-host of the Judaism Unbound podcast, as well as The Oral Talmud, a streaming video show soon to be released in podcast form. Dan teaches classes on Judaism and Jewish wisdom at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's Zelikow School of Nonprofit Management. Dan is the translator of The Orchard, a novel about the early days of Rabbinic Judaism, by renowned Israeli novelist Yochi Brandes.
Brought to us by Living Our Beliefs podcast, our gracious hosts Meli Solomon melisolomon55 decided to bring together an interfaith discussion on marriage....not the successful ones or bad ones, but the ceremony itself. We were happy to participate and learned a lot about what we have in common. From Living Our Beliefs podcast: Wedding ceremonies are universal and central to many religious and cultural groups. But they vary widely. In this conversation with four guests from different religious traditions – Judaism, Mormonism, Islam and the Baha'i faith – we explore the role of the officiant, who that is, the role of the Divine, contracts and other things. This conversation grew out of the Elevate Podcasting summit hosted by BYU Broadcasting. Steve Perry, host of their In Good Faith podcast, has joined me in co-hosting this discussion.Tune in to learn more at 6pm EST on Apple podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or head to our website and share with a friend you know who might like this episode.Did you know you can send us a text? Few conversations are as fraught as those among family members who disagree about ideas they hold dear, and none more so than religion. Such exchanges can be especially painful for believers in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith that can be all encompassing with strong teachings about here and the hereafter, especially about family relationships, and practices that reflect those teachings. So what happens in families when some hold firm to the faith and others walk away? How do parents, children and siblings respond to those who have chosen a different path? Can they still love one another or does judgment make that impossible? Do they talk about it or do they slink away in silent agony? Utah Valley University's Kimberly Abunuwara, director of the humanities program, came up with an unusual way to explore these questions. She enlisted a group of students to interview various families about how their attachment to — or distance from — Mormonism affected their connections and communications. The team then staged a performance, titled “In Good Faith,” in which student actors used those firsthand accounts from members and former members to reveal these wrenching experiences. In a special “Mormon Land” episode, recorded live at Orem's UVU, Abunuwara and two of the student performers — Brielle Szendre and Caleb Voss — are discuss what they discovered, how the experience affected them and what others can learn from this effort.

On Episode 147 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis kicks off a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the premiere of FOOTLOOSE! This film is a 1984 American musical drama directed by Herbert Ross. It tells the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a teenager from Chicago who moves to a small town, where he attempts to overturn the ban on dancing instituted by the efforts of Rev. Kim also appeared on three episodes of Touched By An Angel, and in the films Shot in the Heart, Plainsong, and Fire Creek. This episode is guest-hosted by my friend Steven Kapp Perry from the “In Good Faith” podcast. He interviews John Gustav-Wrathall (a dear friend and mentor) who appeared in an early episode—Episode 49—which we'll link to below. John shares some of his earliest spiritual experiences, which gave him a solid faith in God, and then describes his journey of listening to and following the clear promptings of the Spirit, even when that inspiration surprised him and was not what he was expecting. That included a life-saving impression to step away from the church for a time, and then, surprisingly, a call to return to it. We'll also hear how John's patience in certain painful situations at church later led to growth and change in the very people who had caused that distress. Thanks, John, for your courage to continue to share your story. I learn so much from you. After 20 years of serving in communications ministry for Catholic Sisters (much of it supporting vocations), it became clear to Susan Flansburg that a guide for inquirers and discerners into religious life was desperately needed. A “one-stop shop” of critical but hard-to-find insights and information, Feels Like Home was written with and for vocation directors from across the country. Their contributions form the heart of the book as they share what it means to belong to a range of institutes, from apostolic and monastic to habited, cloistered, and missionary. A frequent contributor to many faith-based publications - including Vision Vocation, Horizon journal, and multiple Catholic religious institutes - Susan also writes for non-profit organizations from health care to higher education. We made new friends over the summer with In Good Faith Podcast when host Steven Kapp Perry interviewed both 3 Black Men Podcast and Mommying While Muslim cohosts (that's US!) during Brigham Young University's Annual Religious Freedom Review. And there's nothing more freeing than being able to share your POV with other people who are receptive to learning and understanding. Building bridges is the way to build allyship, for ourselves and for our kids, as we like to say. Please note that Uzma got pretty excitable at about 45:54 and misspoke about the miraculous conception, but you know she means Jesus and not what she actually said. Interfaith incites passion, indeed!Tune in at 6pm EST on your favorite podcast app or head over to our landing page on the website mommyingwhilemusl.com for easy listening.Links:1. Sister Violaine Paradis, CND worked as an actress before experiencing a return to God that made her leave everything to enter the Congrégation de Notre-Dame novitiate in August 2009. After her first vows, she pursued studies in pastoral theology and, later, embarked on an integral training centered on human development at the Institut de Formation Humaine et Intégrale de Montréal. In 2017, her Congregation invited her to live a one-year mission and immersion experience in Honduras in one of the CND communities present in the field. For three years, Sister Violaine has been working as a social pastoral worker in the Centre-Sud and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhoods in Montreal. (1:43) O Canada! The youngest of nine children born of a devout Irish-Catholic mother, Sister Mary Michael Fox entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia (Nashville) at age 21, and has served in the community's primary apostolate of teaching for over 30 years. After being trained as a catechist for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Sister Mary Michael was so intrigued by its approach that she conducted doctoral research into the nature of its pedagogy. In February 2023, she published her research in a book, Following God's Pedagogy: Principles for Children's Catechesis (LTP, 2023). Sister Mary Michael currently serves at the Congregation's Retreat House in Dickson, Tennessee as both Martha and Mary: cooking, cleaning, and assisting with any of practical needs during retreats, and intercessory prayer before, during, and after each retreat.
