Message from Greenfield Presbyterian Church in Berkley, MI by guest preacher The Rev. Carol Taylor from the UCC. Matthew 1:1 Genealogy of Jesus 1 A record of the ancestors of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham: Matthew 1:17-24 17 So there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen generations from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen generations from the exile to Babylon to the Christ. Birth of Jesus 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. When Mary his mother was engaged to Joseph, before they were married, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph her husband was a righteous man. Because he didn't want to humiliate her, he decided to call off their engagement quietly. 20 As he was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child she carries was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 Now all of this took place so that what the Lord had spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled: 23 Look! A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, And they will call him, Emmanuel. (Emmanuel means “God with us.”) 24 When Joseph woke up, he did just as an angel from God commanded and took Mary as his wife.

Lynn Perry Wooten: The Prepared Leader Lynn Perry Wooten is a seasoned academic and an expert on organizational development and transformation. She became the ninth president of Simmons University on July 1, 2020 and is the first African American to lead the university. Her research specializes in crisis leadership, diversity and inclusion, and positive leadership—organizational behavior that reveals and nurtures the highest level of human potential. Lynn has also had a robust clinical practice, providing leadership development, education, and training for a wide variety of companies and institutions, from the Kellogg Foundation to Harvard University's Kennedy School, and to Google. She is the coauthor of Arrive and Thrive: 7 Impactful Practices for Women Navigating Leadership and the coeditor of Positive Organizing in a Global Society: Understanding and Engaging Differences for Capacity Building and Inclusion. She is also the author with Erika James of The Prepared Leader: Emerge from Any Crisis More Resilient Than Before*. In this conversation, Lynn and I discuss why crises are not isolated events, even through they are often treated that way. We explore the critical nature of trust and how to build it quickly in crisis. We then detail three key areas of trust that will help leaders begin to help a team shift towards better outcomes. Key Points Crises are not single events. They happen again and again, necessitating leaders preparation for them. In normal times, trust is key. In a time of crisis, it's essential. Regular communication is essential in a crisis. Avoid the tendency to downplay risks. In fact, it's useful to paint a picture of the worst case scenario. Leaders need to determine is there is a strong sense of a contractual obligation between them and their teams. It's critical for leaders to assess the competence of their team to be able to respond to the crisis at hand. Frequent, high performance meetings are essential during a time of crisis. At the age of 2 Carol had my first encounter with the spirit of an elderly woman. After living in several homes that had activity it soon became apparent that she had a gift for communicating with those who were deceased. Carol began her journey into finding answers and started to investigate on hger own when she was in my early teens. After several years of investigating and researching all she could on the subject, Carol then founded an online community where she was responsible for teaching others how to research and investigate activity in their own homes and businesses. After being involved in this online community for quite some time Carol made the decision to expand upon her knowledge and become more seriously involved in collecting data and research in this field. That is when she founded the paranormal research group called Niagara Area Paranormal Society. Their team currently consists of 12 members. They research paranormal activity throughout the Niagara Region. Their team is well established in the area and we have had several media appearances. Besides my research in this field, I just completed my second successful season of teaching courses locally. Participants of the course have the opportunity to learn the basics about investigating and then have the opportunity to investigate local haunted locations with seasoned investigators at their side to help guide them. - www.paranormalinvestigations.net

Growing up in New York in the 1980s, Laurence Legall was more than aware of the dangers of walking down the street. It didn't take much for a young black man to be stopped and searched by the city police - and if you made a wrong move, you could end up dead. In this programme, from his home in Brooklyn where he has lived for much of his life, Laurence tells the story of the small but vitally important book created by his mom to help young black men stay safe on the streets of NYC. It all began one day in 1985 when he went to buy some shoes with friends. They were robbed by a group of young men. Seeing a police car, they flagged them down but the NYPD didn't take their complaint seriously. When he got home, his mom was furious. But rather than just accept it, she decided do something about it. And she was no stranger to 'doing something about it'. Back in 1957, Carol Taylor fought discrimination on the airlines to become the first black flight attendant in the United States. A few years later, she took her place on the podium at the March on Washington in 1963 with other civil rights campaigners. And then years later, she wanted to make a stand for her son and all other young black men. Laurence's experience had been the last straw and, that evening, Carol sat down and wrote a list of survival rules for not just her son but for all black men to follow in the event of being stopped by the police. She called it The Little Black Book. This programme charts the story of that book, its important list of 30 rules and how it continues to be relevant nearly 40 years after its first publication. Due to a quirk in the Affordable Care Act, lower- and middle-income employees are not able to access critical premium subsidies when the self-only health coverage offered by their employer is deemed affordable by the ACA. - www.paranormalinvestigations.net******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewpaper.com

What comes to mind when you think about adaptable clothing or fashion? For Carol Taylor, of Queensland, Australia, she was tired of the utilitarian shapes, the placement of seams and zippers that can cause pressure sores and the bland colours that were offered. Carol is changing the narrative, designing, what she calls “Inclusive Fashion,” based on her lived experience of quadriplegia. She creates her own patterns based on her painted artworks and prints them on fabric. All bodies are unique, and Carol wants to design with disability in mind and find a creative way to “solve” a problem; perhaps it's adding a magnetic button to a shirt so that someone can change independently. Carol's philosophy is that fashion should be available to everyone. www.caroltaylordesigns.com.au

Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, upholds high academic values while combining Christian faith with every aspect of life. In this first of seven episodes in the "Evangel University Voices" series, the university's outgoing president, Dr. Carol Taylor, talks with host Chris Johnson about the unfolding of her career path, which has spanned 45 years. She also shares what God is doing among students now in the Evangel community and looks to the future of Christian higher education. She is inspired by Evangel students' "willingness to learn" and "heart to serve."
Carol Taylor has served as the president of Evangel University since 2013. She announced her plans, officially this time, to retire in November 2020 after 45 years in education. That date was postponed so she could stay on to lead the school through the COVID-19 pandemic. That move was in Carol’s nature, she’s not one to back down from a challenge. We’ll talk about her abrupt appointment to lead Vanguard in California, as the university was threatened with losing its accreditation. And stepping into her role at Evangel and succeeding Robert Spence, the second longest serving college president, ever. She says she found purpose and power in being her own kind of leader. And those challenges? She says her life has been marked by giving an unqualified yes to anything God has in store.
“Ultimately there’s only one question that matters when we’re trying to discern God’s direction in our lives, and that is (at any given moment, in every situation): ‘God what are you asking me to do now?’” Leaders are learners! Let's hear from the ministry experts from various fields as we seek their wisdom to strengthen our leadership competencies. Saehee Duran sits down with Dr. Carol Taylor, President of Evangel University, to discuss the challenges of leading through a crisis and ten strategies to do it well. Carol Taylor helped transform three Christian universities facing uncertain futures, but she says COVID-19 has become the greatest trial shes faced in her entire 45-year career in academics.

In 2001 Carol Taylor and her husband Robert were involved in a car accident that severed Carol’s spinal cord leaving her a high level quadriplegic. Today Carol lives on the Gold Coast in Australia with her husband Robert and their 11 year old son. Carol and Robert operate a successful law practice while dealing with the daily obstacles that come with being paralyzed from the neck down. Shane and Nikki sit down with Carol for an in depth conversation about her journey. Carol talks about: How you rebuild a life: “ With the struggles i’ve been through, you don’t get back to your old life. You build another life. My former life is like a book i have read and put back on the shelf in the library. Now i’m writing another book.” Overcoming adversity: “We don’t realize the strength we have until we need it. We are vastly more resilient and powerful than we realize. Adversity gives you the gift of resilience.” “To overcome adversity you have to find a routine. Start small and grow over time, soon you build a new normal.” Building a breakthrough mindset: “A wonderful lady that I knew during the first four years helped me a lot. One of the things she said to me was “ Carol, where do you see yourself in five years time? You are not going to be in this place where you are right now. Your body will never be the same, you will have to adapt but it will get stronger”. “The thing that has gotten the strongest for me since my injury is my mind. Know that if you set your mind to something you can build the mindset you need to achieve it. Focus on where do you want to be in five years time”. Why continue: Someone somewhere needs you to get through this. Someone is waiting for your story to inspire them. If your down, if your broken, build a routine and start living day by day. Is it possible to have a busy life that is also unhurried? Can our life with God and our work with God become more and more connected and fruitful? Listen to this week’s conversation with Dr. Carol Taylor, president of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, as we talk about what she’s learned in years of leadership.
Welcome to the Unhurried Living Podcast! Unhurried Living exists to help people rest deeper and live fuller so that they can lead better. This is the first of eight episodes in Season 1. This season we’ll be talking with influencers such as Doug Fields of Download Youth Ministries, Mindy Caliguire of Soul Care, Jeff Spadafora from Halftime Institute, Carol Taylor, President of Evangel University, Pete Scazzero of Emotionally Healthy Spirituality and Todd Hunter of Churches for the Sake of Others. We can’t wait to share their insights, their experiences and even their wrestling at the intersection of spirituality and work. Alan’s new book, An Unhurried Leader, releases on June 19. And Season 1 leads right up to the launch. Now, as we always say busy is a matter of calendar and hurry is a matter of soul. Our culture’s fast pace can make it difficult to be present to God, to yourself and to others. We want you to be a person of fruitful influence in every sphere of your life. However, in the midst of all we do, sometimes we’re tempted to frantically take control of situations in hopes of making good things happen. In our writing, our training and now in our podcast, we want to help you deepen the connection between your personal walk with God and the very real demands of your life and work. As we mentioned earlier, in Season 1, we are focusing on Unhurried Influence to highlight Alan’s upcoming book. So, in these conversations, we will unfold what it means for people to let Jesus set the pace. Through biblical illustrations, personal examples, and on-the-ground practical wisdom, this book and these podcast interviews will guide you into a new view of kingdom influence. Along the way, you just might find that the whole of your life has been transformed into a more livable and fruitful pace. In season 1, we’ll tackle some key questions: • How does your life with God inform your relationships and work? • How do you experience prayer leading to action? And – How do you experience action as the fruit of prayer? • How do you see spiritual formation and influence as interwoven? • What challenges do you face in integrating your own spiritual formation and your work? • What practices help you keep your inner and outer life more integrated and what good fruit does such an integration bear? We hope you’ll join us soon for this first season of the unhurried living podcast. We hope to be a source of encouragement, inspiration, fresh vision and strength for your life. And we also hope you’ll head on over to Amazon.com and pre-order An Unhurried Leader. We would love for you to rediscover the genius of Jesus’ unhurried way of life. You can signup for our weekly emails by going to unhurriedliving.com. Put your name and email in the pop-up and you’ll receive a free ebook --- Take Five: 22 Simple Ways to Enjoy God’s Presence. And be sure to check out Episode 1 of Season 1 of the Unhurried Living Podcast. It will air the first week of May. Together, we’ll learn to rest deeper, live fuller and lead better.
