You are incredible. So incredible that you can literally do anything. Hang out with us, Robyn and Ashley, as we use positivity and determination to accomplish the mass amounts of things we have always wanted to do. When we aren't conquering our own dreams we are talking to people from all over the…
How do we stay on track when something gets us off course. Writing out tasks or chunking up the work into smaller pieces has helped get the big task done. I've been resetting quite a bit lately and that too seems to help with expectations.
Kim started her athleticism as a four-year-old. Kim has played several sports through her school years and hated running. Ironically, Kim now is an ultra-runner. Currently, Kim is a register dietician, RRCA Road Running Coach, Precision Nutrition Level 1 Nutrition Coach and a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. Kim had great ideas to get past the ‘guilt' of the holidays. Bring a dish to pass that you know that you'll like and it's healthy. Keep hydrated, take small bites of the foods that you want to try. Also, Kim reminds us to eat a normal breakfast, and the other meals can be a fun meal. One meal isn't going to make or break our weight loss or performance journey. Kim does recommend limiting alcohol as there are empty calories, our bodies don't like digesting alcohol and it's not useful for us. Going into 2025, what can your non-pro athlete do to help get through the year. Staying hydrated is number one. Starting your day with water is start. Protein is also at the top of this list. Many people need protein consistently throughout the day and being aware of what protein you're eating. Fruits and vegetables should be added to more diets. Frozen and canned are really good options as they're picked when they have the most nutrients. Quality of food is the next level to work with. Snacks on the go don't have to be hard. You can take a cooler with you and carry protein shakes, fruits, hard boiled eggs, egg bites, cheese sticks, protein bars, protein cookies, vegetables or nuts. I will be working with Kim on nutrition starting in February 2025. In with Kim has a nice ring to it, so stay posted on my updates through 2025. Steve joined the Navy after his Junior year of High School. An experience that stands from his military days is one that was a search and rescue mission. On the third day, Steve's team found who they were searching for, which was a rewarding lifetime experience. Steve did have a math and computer science degree to be a fighter pilot but that wasn't in the cards for him so what did Steve do? He became a software engineer. Steve's passion is to help good small companies compete and win against large companies. Steve started his current business, Search Engine Optimization, by creating a portal for adventure companies. It was so early in the internet days that Google hadn't been started. Steve also enjoys being an execution coach by helping people do their job more efficiently or even getting started. Dare to dream. Why does Frankie do hard things? It's the view from the top and what you can learn about yourself in the process. In 2015 Frankie was camping in Colorado and noticed that people were hiking on the Colorado Trail with lots of stuff on their backs. Once Frankie got home, she researched and watched movies which led into two years of training including about 800 miles on the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin, then moved to the Colorado Trail in 2017. Frankie lives and works in three different states. How does she keep her routine? Frankie plans out for her trips and packs an extra bag with supplements, bands, her yoga mat, extra shoes and a weighted vest. She also keeps an extra set in Colorado and has a gym membership that she can use in different areas. Training is important to Frankie so she makes it a priority. Do all of the right stuff first – Derek Toshner Derek started rock climbing in college because he needed a one credit class. After selling a large business and tragically losing a business, Derek submersed himself into climbing as a way to escape reality. No matter how many times Derek has climbed, he learns something new every time. Derek wasn't athletic as a kid, picture skinny and dorky. In high school Derek said that he wanted to do hurdles and a Senior stated that he sucked at hurdles. Derek wanted to prove his self-worth and started to exercise. The determination that Derek had paid off. Derek is a 5x NCAA national champion in track and field (3x 400m hurdles and 2x 4x400m relay) and competed at the USA World and Olympic Team Trials from '03 to '05. He has held his high school and university school records in hurdles for 20+ years and was inducted into their Halls of Fame. Derek is a StrongFirst Certified Master Instructor and the Co-Founder, with his brother Ryan, of TNT Fitness Results. TNT is a group of four gyms and one sister gym in Wisconsin. TNT in Fond du Lac, where Derek is most often, has a military-style obstacle course on 8.7 acres of land. “An obstacle is really just an opportunity.” - Noah H Pines “I do messy cases. I do a lot of appellate work where people have been convicted and sentenced to prison for the rest of their life including projects for the Innocence Project.” - Noah H Pines How do you get through the tough times? Noah has had adversity in his life but has not let it stop him. Noah uses barriers to reset, restart and then does better. My first repeat guest, Mario Minnaert! Exactly a year later I have Mario Minnaert back on the podcast to update us with his new business, his achievements this past year and looking forward to the rest of 2023. How does Mario work with clients that feel overwhelmed? Focus on getting clarity, what are you doing today and what do I need to do today or next week. Once you establish those priorities you can create a plan. You also don't need to do everything all at once. Mario and I are huge process fans. We feel that the process is the real goal over the end result. It sounds odd, but we've found it to be true. When you hit that goal you feel unstoppable. More importantly, who is the person that you became along the way? “I was the girl who always had a kitten in her arms.” – Sarah Lowry, DVM Sarah started her journey after high school with a degree in Animal Science and then received her Master's degree in Dairy Nutrition. Sarah realized quickly that consulting on Dairy Nutrition was not for her as she's not a sales person. Sarah then applied to the University of Wisconsin – Madison and was accepted into vet school. When Sarah's husband earned tenure as a professor, he was due for a sabbatical. They packed up their life and moved to South America for a year. During that time Sarah reflected on what she wanted to focus on when they came back to the states. Sarah started her own solo mobile service focusing on backyard pets, such as goats and 4-H animals. Sarah also works on end of life, hospice, palliative care, acupuncture and pet loss support.
In today's episode I discuss recent healthier decisions, what really constitutes consistency v vacation and moving forward.
Joannie is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of 29029 Everesting. Joannie has completed 29029 Everesting nine times. Each mountain has a different elevation profile, so the number of ascents changes from mountain to mountain. Joannie has a present mindset during the 29029 events. Joannie doesn't climb with ear buds. Joannie wants to hear the sounds of nature, hear the conversations around her and offer a helping hand when needed. This event is about cheering each other on. This is not a race, it's a challenge, and that takes the competitive edge away. “I wanted to be in the action, I didn't have to win, it just seemed like more fun out there doing it than watching on the sidelines which is why I enter everything. I don't enter because I think that I'm good enough to win, I just love being part of the competition.” – Joannie Rich Is Pickleball for old people? NO! Joannie states that the learning curve for pickleball is much shorter than tennis or golf. The cost of entry is low, you can play in public areas and is inclusive for so many people, so it's a bit easier to get into than other sports. Joannie enjoys traveling around South Florida to play in amateur tournaments. Last year Joannie and her partner played in the US Open of Pickleball in Naples, FL in the 3.0 division but lost in the finals. I learned how to say yes to customers instead of saying no. – Matt DeLong, Entrepreneur, Start-up Consultant, Author, Speaker, Professional Stocks/Options trader, CTO at Real Life Trading Matt started his entrepreneurship in high school with a landscaping business. Matt eventually sold it and moved to Nashville, TN. Matt was a C student, went to community college, but quickly realized that there were other ways to get an education besides the traditional method. Matt bought a $25 dollar yearly magazine subscription, Entrepreneur Magazine, with the goal of reading every monthly publication for 10 years. Matt is a hands-on learner and learned how to build websites since the World Wide Web was the next big thing from Entrepreneur Magazine. Money was important, but more importantly, Matt knew that he needed the experience to get a base skill. Matt's greatest skill is to solve a need and learn to say yes, I can do that. How do you solve a need and get paid to do that? How do you add value? That's what Matt did. Matt has 30 years of experience building and scaling businesses. Loved it, interesting and liked it. We all wanted to hear way more stories about people's lives. The people in the book were happy. The stories were told in a way that we wanted more. The research was also told in a way that made the book interesting. Do you check in with your circle every day? Are you intentional in what you do? We summarized that low stress, clean eating, moving your body, nuts, less meat, vegetarian, calcium, sleep and napping, being a needed member of a family or culture were all very important to live a long life. What would you do to live more like the people in The Blue Zones? Bike to work? Less social media? After an episode get down and do 20 sit-ups, then 20 pushups? Switch out processed snacks for homemade chickpeas? One of Robyn's 2023 goals is to stop eating before feeling full, and it's been a good change. We'd love to hear from you on your switches. “Focus on what you want and what will it look like when you arrive? Is what I'm doing bringing me closer to what I want or is this a distraction? Ask better questions.” – Xochitl Rodriguez “Why is this happening to me? I was asking all the wrong questions.” Xochitl had successful businesses and then they were gone. Doors opened, closed and opened again for Xochitl. Xochitl kept moving forward and took advantage of a stock trading retreat when she had spent several thousands of dollars. Many would have given up and not take advantage of that open door, but Xochitl pushed through. Today Xochitl is the president of Real Life Trading and a published author. Xochitl and I both have been looking forward instead of the back window for the past several years. We attribute this to our experience and wanting to help others learn as quick as possible. While you shouldn't take away learning experiences, you can shorten them. What does giving grace to others and yourself look like? Giving grace to others could be biting your tongue or trying to understand the other person's reasoning. Does giving grace to yourself look like an excuse? If so, why are you willing to give yourself an excuse, and if not and excuse, how do you know? Which end of the spectrum are you? Our friends Dr. Billy Alsbrooks and Matt Scoletti, episodes 42 and 43 respectively, as well as Jerremy Newsome, episode 67, are mentioned in this episode. One day off is a rest, two or three days off is a habit per Matt Scoletti. We love this saying! Pam stated, “Often when we want to quit we need to give it more.” I need to focus on this aspect for 2023. - Robyn Grace is not necessarily letting go, it can also be a push. Where is the threshold? Push yourself to do hard things – Abigail Puccioni Chronic back pain and recurring infections is how Abigail got started on her Integrative Health Practitioner journey. Most people would associate integrative health with diet changes, supplements, protocols and a fear of toxins. With all of these things, Abigail felt stuck in the wellness hamster wheel. Mindset and belief system is what shifted for Abigail. The thought crossed Abigail's mind; shouldn't we all be better by now? Abigail decided to go off of her supplements and stopped cutting out certain food groups. Once Abigail stopped living so rigidly she started to live again and even took up traveling again. Colin O'Brady's two books, The 12-Hour Walk and The Impossible First along with the podcast, The Cure For Chronic Pain with Nicole Sachs, LCSW helped Abigail start to change her mind-set. Abigail knew that her next steps would come to her when the time was right. It finally hit her that she wanted to start a brick-and-mortar wellness center. Abigail's wellness center is expected to open in the summer of 2023. In the meantime, Abigail has been focusing on getting outside early in the morning, grounding, meditation, journaling your feelings, breath work, cold exposure and incorporating salt and minerals. *Update – Robyn has been ending showers with a 15 to 30 second cold blast. ‘Stories change hearts and hearts change minds and that's the only way we can grow” – Trevor Boylston Let's get educated on LGBTQ+ and gender dysphoria. Trevor takes us on an educational journey through his 17 year transgender journey. This is Trevor's experience. Everyone's journey will be unique to them. Gender identity is who you know yourself to be, who you are as a person and sexual orientation is who you are attracted to. Gender identity may not always match their gender expression and that is how you appear to the world around you. Trevor expresses himself as male with his example of his beard, T-shirt and bald head. Trevor has had surgeries which include consultations, travel and spending days/weeks away from home. Letters from several professionals are required to attest to Trevor making a sound decision. There are several safeguards in place to ensure that sound decisions are being made; this is not an overnight decision. Trevor's wife has been a fantastic supporter of his change and he thanks her immensely. What are some of the challenges? Changing gender on legal documents; our medical teams treating transgender patients; terminology; local political races and what is going on in your communities; depression and suicide; and many, many more. There's an over 40% suicide rate in the transgender population. This is such a sad statistic. Be supportive if someone comes to you and wants to talk. Having one supportive adult in a minor's life reduces the risk of suicide by 40%. Be that supportive adult! Trevor Project – suicide prevention hotline for kids - https://www.thetrevorproject.org/ Through authentic conversation, personal stories, and practical examples, Trevor guides corporations on their journey to developing a culture where all employees are welcome to bring their authentic selves to work. Trevor meets audience members at their level and fosters a brave space for anyone working to build transgender and nonbinary inclusion into workplace culture. The December 2022 Book Club all agreed that One Day in December by Josie Silver was a cute read heading into the holidays. Context and perspective matters is the theme of this review. We had a good laugh with Pam thinking that Jack was a bus boy; when in reality he was the guy that Laurie saw at a bus stop. The three of us really enjoyed the characters and could visualize many scenes in the book. We all enjoyed the twists and turns and we'd read another Josie Silver book. What's something that's exciting and scary? Being a first-time mom! Megan and her husband gave grandparent gifts to break the news of the new baby. There wasn't a big reveal, they kept it intimate which suited them just fine. Did you know that there's an app for baby names that you and your husband/partner can use to help narrow down baby names? Megan says that being a parent is the best experienced! Megan was considered an elderly pregnancy. The U.S. Census Bureau figures show that for the first time, the average age of women giving birth is now 30. A geriatric pregnancy is considered 35 years and older. The oldest verified mother to conceive naturally (listed currently as of 26 January 2017 in the Guinness Records[6]) is Dawn Brooke (Guernsey); she conceived a son at the age of 59 years in 1997.[7] Megan's post - https://gingernerdmom.wordpress.com/2022/10/05/musings-on-motherhood-from-a-newbie/?fbclid=IwAR0mF5gTtYHVfxuSE-0GrlALZbCLQRIIcxBeeWV23s7yHSBFFMTRhHt8ous Links for postpartum depression: Mayo Clinic Postpartum depression - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/postpartum-depression/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20376623 Office on Women's Health - https://www.womenshealth.gov/mental-health/mental-health-conditions/postpartum-depression You can follow the I Can Do Anything Podcast at: Email us at – icandoanythingpod@gmail.com Watch our faces on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeI1EHGodsDgwYbvHuOxLQQ And then there is always our website - www.icandoanythingpod.com Like us and subscribe on Facebook - https://bit.ly/3bG0Efk Follow us on Twitter - https://bit.ly/2yqZczb Find us on Instagram - https://bit.ly/2xDFIa4 Get your merch here - https://bit.ly/teespringicdapod Join us on Goodreads – ICDA Please leave a review and remember that we'd love to hear from you! As we enter the holiday season, I take it as a time to reflect. This year is no exception. I interviewed Jerremy Newsome who's leveled up my life since June 2019 and it's time to give thanks. I met Jerremy through my mom, who was and still is, obsessed with anything Jerremy related. Who's Jerremy Newsome? First and foremost a father and husband. One of the world's best stock traders. Three-time finisher of 29029 Everesting, Ironman, Calendar Club running finisher, 10k pushups in a day and completed the 4x4x48 David Goggins challenge. Jerremy is also an entrepreneur, author of adult and children's books, mentor, an official member of Forbes Business Council, mentor of G-Force Mastermind, Podcaster, keynote speaker for events, featured guest on podcasts and world traveler. Jerremy and I talked through documenting your success stories throughout the year to see how far you've come. I do this in my professional life, and I recently started in my personal life. Jerremy suggested to our listeners to create a video time capsule from you to you and watch the video a year from now, three years from now and five years from now. What a great way to show growth and document memories! Thank you, Jerremy, for your friendship and mentoring. I can't wait to see where the future takes us! Do you have what it takes to Everest? Stratton Mountain in Stratton, VT was where I left it all on the mountain. Stratton's vertical foot gain per hike is 1,750 ft, 1.35 miles up to the summit, 17 hikes are required to reach 29029 ft and a total of 22.4 miles. Hike up, take the gondola down, turn right and head back up to the summit. It's the hardest thing that I've ever done even at five ascents, and I can't wait to do it again! 2023 I signed up to volunteer at Jackson, WY and I plan to attend as a participant in 2024. It will take two years to build up strength and endurance to give myself a fair shot. This community is something that I've never encountered before and I want to be a part of it. A big thank you to Marc Hodulich, Colin O'Brady, and Jesse Itzler for this event. Cassie sourdough anyone? The name of Sarah's sourdough is from her grandmother, Cassie. The name Cassie is still spoken to this day, which makes Sarah proud. How do you stay on track if you don't feel like doing the thing that you need to do? Will you regret not doing the thing? Do you have the tools that you need but you're missing a partner to do the thing with you? Do you love the idea of the thing, but you don't have any drive for the action? Do you need to pay a lot of money in order to get the thing done? Pam and I discuss all of the above in this episode. We'd love to hear what you do when you have a thing that you need to get done. “If you can change your habits, you can change your life.” “Consistency and repetition will change your identity.” New York Times bestseller author, James Clear Ashley, Pam, and I dive into Atomic Habits. Spoiler alert – we LOVE this book. Pam joined us back on Episode 29 and wanted to share her thoughts on this fantastic book. This is the book of the year for us. What triggers you to do your routine? Robyn loves her wall calendar, so thank you Jesse Itzler! Ashley has her bike near the door, so she sees it as she walks in the door. Ashley uses the make it easy or make it hard technique while Robyn and Pam use the make it desirable technique which makes them feel good or accomplished. Pam talks about making the bed each morning. We also talk about stacking habits and how it sets the intention for the day. One of our favorite quotes is “You do not rise to the level of your goals you fall to the level of your systems.” Goals are about what you want to achieve, and systems are about the process that leads you to those results. “If you have a goal but don't have a plan, you're not going to hit your goal.” It is about the trajectory, where are you headed? https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habits You can follow the I Can Do Anything Podcast at: Like us and subscribe on Facebook - https://bit.ly/3bG0Efk Follow us on Twitter - https://bit.ly/2yqZczb Find us on Instagram - https://bit.ly/2xDFIa4 Get your merch here - https://bit.ly/teespringicdapod Watch our faces on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeI1EHGodsDgwYbvHuOxLQQ Email us at – icandoanythingpod@gmail.com And then there is always our website - www.icandoanythingpod.com Join us on Goodreads – ICDA
Rob didn't take the easy way out in order to become successful. The beginning of Rob's career started as a car stereo installer, joined the Army where he gained foundational discipline, worked in construction and then went into installing mobile phones. Although Rob was installing mobile phones, Rob was ‘selling' to the owners of the cars and quickly learned that sales was where he needed to be. 80% of it is mindset and pair that with skill, attitude and confidence it goes a long way. Something that struck home with me during the interview with Rob was his statement to his family of “Tell me how you failed today? I want you failing; if you fail, you'll learn from that.” Rob gives back to the community by speaking to business classes at a local high school. “Have an open mind, have a critical thinking mindset but the foundational things are what you want to hold onto.” WANRack is a leading provider of Fiber Optic Wide Area Networks (WANs) for middle-mile, last-mile, K-12 school districts, cities, counties, libraries, and healthcare across America. Episode 58 – A Chris of All Trades Bowling, storm chasing, baseball and building a house are topics that Chris Jackson and Robyn Steckel discuss on Episode 58 of the podcast. On March 22, 2022, Chris bowled his fifth 800 series of his career! An 800 series is no easy task. Chris also bowled in the USBC Open Championships in Las Vegas, in May 2022, and did well. Storm chasing is another area in Chris's life that's met with success. Chris started bowling and storm chasing with his dad. Chris continues to chase storms and uses that information to help spread awareness of storms to the public. Baseball takes up time on the calendar with organizing a league, being on the board, running one of the divisions and playing in three divisions. Chris also tells Robyn why he chose to build a house and the thought process behind his choices. This is all on top of working a full-time job. As you can see, this is a Chris of all trades.
