Back-to-school season can be a stressful transition for kids and parents alike, and routines play a key role in making that shift smoother. Licensed family counselor Joannie DeBrito draws from over 30 years of experience to share practical wisdom for families navigating the start of the school year. From re-establishing rhythms of sleep, meals, and self-care to limiting screen time and creating space for meaningful family conversations, Joannie explains how structure helps children thrive at every stage of life. She also highlights how parents can spot when struggles go beyond normal adjustment and where to turn for help.In this conversation, Joannie offers age-specific insight—helping preschoolers through separation tears, guiding middle schoolers into new routines, and encouraging high school and college students to pace themselves instead of overloading with activities. She also emphasizes the value of unstructured time, learning to enjoy solitude, and modeling a balanced, faith-filled life at home. With practical ideas and spiritual grounding, Joannie provides encouragement for parents, grandparents, and caregivers who want to help kids settle into school while growing in resilience, balance, and faith.
TOMATO o Joannie Kołaczkowskiej, kabaretach i innych | Tomasz Raczek i Marcin Szczygielski rozmowy

"... and in truth it is a story that is not mine nor hers; I am searching for the shape of what is ours." Hear Sara and Joannie are in conversation with Palestinian writer and academic Micaela Sahhar. Together, they discuss Micaela’s gorgeous new memoir, 'Find Me At The Jaffa Gate,’ which aims to assemble and reclaim the story of her family through fractured memories, objects and places.

Dr. Joannie DeBrito with Focus on the Family talks about the busy-ness of life that gets in the way of relationships. But that isn't the true barrier. It's the screens we stare at that occupies the lion share of our time. Joannie unpacks the importance of the sensory experience that happens during one-on-one, face-to-face communication that is simply not possible when a screen separates you from one another. Don't let this socially acceptable barrier keep you from experiencing deep and meaningful relationships with those who are close.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wmbwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Joannie DeBrito is a counselor with Focus on the Family. Joannie was asked if there are ways to make a resolution that actually sticks. Practical examples point to making a resolution that is realistic and attainable; bite-size chunks with rewards along the way are helpful. Dr. DeBrito also mentioned letting go of some previous goals...and there are also relationships that could fall into that category as well.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wmbwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Joannie Marlene Bewa, MD, PhD, is a physician, public health researcher, global advocate for girls & women's sexual and reproductive health, and the founder and CEO of DOTOH Health. She has over fifteen years of combined experience in global health, health policy, digital health, clinical care, research, international development and non-profits management. In this episode, Dr. Bewa discusses how her own encounter with the health care system as a girl sparked her passion for health and how that evolved to her focus on sexual and reproductive health... volunteering in a community organization that was focusing on health, respecting cultural and social norms while also challenging them… beyond basic health care, the importance of health information, education, community engagement, awareness and the spectrum of preventative care… the importance of addressing health inequities… the encouragement and support of her parents, and the valuable lessons she learned from them about hard work and about why it is important to help others… setting up a nonprofit at age 21, the Young Beninese Leaders Association, successfully establishing partnerships with other nonprofits, and then receiving support from First Lady Michelle Obama's Young African Women Leaders Grant Program to scale up programs… the importance of making the right decision at the right time, and of being open to opportunities and not missing them… continuing her studies to become a medical doctor and then working for a Masters degree and a PhD… ensuring that all girls have access to quality education by removing the financial, cultural, social, and logistical barriers they face… the essential role of mentors and role models, and safe spaces where girls can express themselves freely without being judged… the need to see more women in politics and in leadership roles globally, and as medical doctors, engineers, astronaut, and journalists… and this encouragement for us all, “Believe in yourself, believe in your power, believe in your voice. Start somewhere because tomorrow starts today.” (Republic of Benin and USA)
Pomożecie Marcinowi i Joannie?

Welcome to the NYS AHPERD A-Z Health and PE Podcast. In this episode, we will be discussing Culturally Responsive Pedagogy with a tremendous scholar Dr. Joannie Halas. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Halas join us from the great white North and the province of Manitoba for today's show. Dr. Joannie Halas (PhD, University of Alberta, 1999) is a Professor Emerita in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba. Now retired, Joannie's integrated teaching, research, and community service was in the area of access to culturally relevant physical and health education for Indigenous and other under-represented populations, including racialized minority youth. A seminal feature of Joannie's nationally funded research has been the development of the Rec and Read/Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program for All Nations, which was awarded the international MacJannet Prize in 2014 for exceptional university-community student engagement initiatives. With the purposeful intent of using her settler, white colonial heritage and university privilege, Joannie worked with Indigenous colleagues and community partners to develop and deliver the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation in the Community Certificate as a pathway to post-secondary education for Indigenous students. In 2013, Joannie gave the Physical and Health Education Canada ‘R Tait Mackenzie Scholar Address' at the national conference, where she drew attention to Canada's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls; using examples from her own work, she emphasized the potential of physical and health education to play a transformative role in mitigating the harmful impacts of colonization on First Nations, Metis and Inuit students in their schools and communities. When most people sign up for 29029 they get used to being asked “but Why?” Why in the world would you want to climb the same mountain for 36 hours? Why would you want to put yourself through that? Why would you climb in the rain, the sun, the dark, the snow? Why would you dedicate so much of your time to earn a red hat? Joannie Rich has been asked “why” more times than she can remember. That's probably because she was the first 29029 participant in 2021 to wear a black bib, signifying that she had completed 3 previous events. She didn't stop there, not even close. Joannie went on to become the first participant to earn the designation of “10-time finisher” in 2023. Remember, when the co-founders started 29029, they didn't even know if people would come back more than once. To date, Joannie has come back 13 times, climbed every single mountain we've offered and has never gone home without a red hat. Whether she likes it or not Joannie has become a legend on the mountain. She's fun-sized and fierce and always has the perfect outfit for her final lap of the weekend. 29029 wouldn't be the same without her and with this little peek behind the curtain you'll realize why Joannie's answer to why is usually “why not!” Like and subscribe for more inspiring episodes. We don't know about you, but we just can't get enough of Joannie Rich! If you haven't, go back and listen to episode 41 so you can meet Joannie and get a glimpse of why she owns 13 red hats and plans to keep climbing. Joannie is a wealth of knowledge not only off the mountain but at home too. She is generous with her time taking calls and answering messages from participants in our community. It's part of what makes her such a legend. While we had Joannie in the podcast hot seat, we figured it was a great time to get some answers to those questions everyone is always asking her. Enjoy a little bonus episode with Joannie Rich.
For parents of adult children, the holidays can be a particularly tricky time to navigate. Doszło do utarczek policji z personelem szpitala, a medycy to nagrali. To co z tymi zapowiadanymi raportami — o patologiach w TVP, o sukcesach Polskiego Ładu, o złodziejstwie w Narodowym Centrum Badań i Rozwoju? Już dotarły na biurko prezesa na Nowogrodzkiej?
School is out, and many parents are eager to find ways to keep their children healthy and active. While it's tempting to allow summer to be a free-for-all with unlimited access to devices, television, video games and junk food, excessive screen time and unhealthy food can have negative effects on kids’ mental and physical health. Joannie is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of 29029 Everesting. Joannie has completed 29029 Everesting nine times. Each mountain has a different elevation profile, so the number of ascents changes from mountain to mountain. Joannie has a present mindset during the 29029 events. Joannie doesn't climb with ear buds. Joannie wants to hear the sounds of nature, hear the conversations around her and offer a helping hand when needed. This event is about cheering each other on. This is not a race, it's a challenge, and that takes the competitive edge away. “I wanted to be in the action, I didn't have to win, it just seemed like more fun out there doing it than watching on the sidelines which is why I enter everything. I don't enter because I think that I'm good enough to win, I just love being part of the competition.” – Joannie Rich Is Pickleball for old people? NO! Joannie states that the learning curve for pickleball is much shorter than tennis or golf. The cost of entry is low, you can play in public areas and is inclusive for so many people, so it's a bit easier to get into than other sports. Joannie enjoys traveling around South Florida to play in amateur tournaments. When life gets overwhelming, most of us have healthy outlets for releasing stress; we may pray, listen to music, go for a run. However, some choose to self-harm -- intentionally causing injury to oneself --as a way of attempting to cope. Friday on Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, Joannie DeBrito, licensed professional counselor at FOTF tells us that self-inflicted methods of harm are usually not a suicide attempt, but the addictive nature of the disorder can be life threatening, and often friends and family aren't aware that a loved one is self-harming. On Friday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, FOTF licensed counselor, Joannie DeBrito talks to parents about how they can approach the joys of the holidays with their growing children, while acknowledging that the season might not be the same as it used to be. Joannie hails from southern Minnesota. She's in her mid-fifties and wanted to come on in part to talk about the role she thinks hormones have played throughout her life in relation to her misophonia. We go back to her normal, happy childhood, and find out how misophonia developed, how she dealt with being a single mother with misophonia and how it affected her relationship with her kids, some experiences with substance abuse and rehab. We also discuss what's it like to live between two generations, Boomers and Generation X, and how attitudes toward mental health are different.Support the podcast on Patreon!Download the official Misophonia Podcast app!For iOS and AndroidPodcast episodes, background sounds, a trigger journal, a panic button, and tons of resources on all things miso.
