He was inspired by a book mentioned during a pre-event call and decided to do the walk a day earlier than planned due to weather concerns. Chad describes starting his walk at 5:30 AM, unplugged and without a specific plan, following the coast northward. He experienced a second wind and a sense of strength he hadn't felt in years, which was emotionally powerful for him. In this episode, Michael and Kathryn discussed Michael's recent 12-hour walk, inspired by Colin O'Brady's book "The 12-Hour Walk". Michael shared how he was initially inspired by a friend, John Donnelly, who had read the book and decided to try it himself. Michael then decided to do it himself, downloading the book to understand the context better. He emphasized that the walk was more about spending 12 hours alone with his thoughts while in motion, rather than the number of miles or steps. He also mentioned that he didn't bring any technology with him during the walk, making it a tech-free day. The discussion ended with Michael expressing his desire to share his experience with others, encouraging them to try something new and different. On Christmas Day in 2018, American endurance athlete Colin O'Brady woke up in a tent, by himself, in the middle of Antarctica. He hadn't seen another human being in 50 days. He hitched up his sled, fell into a flow state bordering on hallucination, and walked 77 miles without stopping to become the first person to cross Antarctica on foot and unassisted. Since achieving this feat, O'Brady has set 11 world records, completed the Explorers Grand Slam, written several books and unlocked the secrets to pushing past limits. The author of The 12-Hour Walk sits down with Mind Game host Casey Bannon to debrief on a life spent overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds, starting with the freak 2007 burn accident in Thailand that threatened to take away his ability to walk at the age of 22. For Jon Frey, recovery from his alcohol and drug addiction six years ago involved more than just a program, it involved a committment to overall health, a committment to fitness. Frey credits Healing Transitions, a program for men and women struggling with addiction, for getting him on the path to recovery. He credits his dedication to fitness for helping him stay there. Frey is the founder of the Oakwood 24, a 24-hour walk/run in Oakwood cemetery on December 22-23 which raises money for Healing Transitions.

But in fact, it's their ability to overcome their own self-doubt that makes high achievers who they are.Colin recalls moments during his trek across Antarctica, when he was alone in his tent, when various different “voices” in his head were telling him to quit, give up, or move on. What allowed him to persevere wasn't a lack of doubt — it was the ability and tenacity to move past it.[13:23] - The Triathlon & the ChairOvercoming adversity one three-hour step at a timeWhen Colin experienced the accident that left him wheelchair-bound, he set an audacious goal — completing a triathlon. But the goal felt so far off and insurmountable, it was easy to get discouraged. Then his mother placed a chair down in front of him in the kitchen, and told him to focus on the small goals. She wanted him to cross the one-step distance to the chair from his wheelchair. It took three hours, and he did it.Later, Colin submitted Everest — and took a tiny pebble as a souvenir. From the kitchen to the top of Everest, Colin has learned to value the way that small things add up to mountain-sized achievements.[16:47] - The Peaks Beyond the PeakMoving goalposts in a life of achievementWe all have our mountain peaks — the goals we think will mark our ultimate level of achievement and joy. But then we get there, and what happens? We feel letdown, and realize there's a whole other peak even higher up.For Colin, he likens it to “post-Olympic depression” — the letdown felt by elite athletes after the end of the event they've worked their entire lives toward. His advice? Move beyond the finish line by acknowledging there is no finish line. The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next. You have to be invested in the process of growth, because growth is the peak that's always there.[26:16] - When the Consequences Are RealOn risk and danger in live and businessColin's often seen as someone who takes lots of risks. In fact, he constantly assesses the risk associated with any undertaking and only takes them on if he feels the risks are manageable. But that doesn't mean he's always comfortable. On the edge of comfort and risk is the sweet spot: discomfort that leads to growth.Where in your career are you calling it “risk” when it's really “discomfort”? What uncomfortable things can you do while still managing risk? That's where growth is likely to come fastest and hardest.RESOURCES:[4:44] The 12 Hour Walk, by Colin O'Brady[4:44] The Impossible First, by Colin O'BradyFollow Colin O'Brady:WebsiteInstagramFacebookXLinkedInYouTubeFollow Josh Linkner:FacebookLinkedInInstagramXYouTubeABOUT MIC DROP:Hear from the world's top thought leaders and experts, sharing tipping point moments, strategies, and approaches that led to their speaking career success. Hey friend!Welcome back! On today's episode we start off with an affirmation & then immediately dive into what I've been experiencing this past week.Last Monday, May 22, was the third anniversary of Tim's passing. I was a mess & processing it all leading up to that day & in the days that followed. On Friday, May 26, (that same week) I got the biggest surprise ever from my boyfriend, Ryan.In the course of a week I experienced one of the lowest lows & one of the highest highs, which sounds bananas, but guess what? That's life. That's the human experience. As Colin O'Brady of 29029 Everesting shares, you cannot have the 10s without the 1s. (Check out his book, The 12 Hour Walk, for more on that.)Anyway, I don't want to give too much away here, so GO PRESS PLAY, like right now!I can't wait to hear what you think!Episodes referenced in today's episode:Episode 96: Push through the uncomfy -- you'll be surprised what you findEpisode 99: Cracked Wide Open - A reflective discussion on an exercise that helped me bust through some trauma

What I Discuss With Dr. Kara Fitzgerald About How You Reverse Your Biological Age Through Lifestyle and Diet Choices Dr. Fitzgerald and I discuss how there is a link between aging and chronic disease, and it has everything to do with epigenetics and their effect on aging. Biological age looks at specific patterns of a key epigenetic mark called DNA methylation. These DNA methylation patterns can reliably predict how fast our body is aging. Methylation is as essential to our bodies as breathing and is happening in our bodies and within our cells all of the time. Therefore, if you can give yourself the DNA methylations of a younger you, you can reset your biological aging process. She provides key ways to do this throughout our interview that are based on her years of experience backed by clinical trials. Why do most adults spend the last 16 years of their lives suffering from chronic conditions and taking multiple medications? Why reversing biological age is key. Why it's epigenetics and not your genetics that determines your level of health and age How is epigenetic expression greatly influenced by DNA methylation? How do our diet and lifestyle choices impact DNA methylation? The results of her research and a groundbreaking clinical trial showed a reduction of biological age by three years. Wrapping up my series on 10-time record breaking explorer Colin O'Brady and the message from his new book, “The 12-Hour Walk: Invest One Day, Conquer Your Mind, and Unlock Your Best Life.” With me is my frequent co host, Randy James, Medical Doctor and Functional Medicine expert. We give focus to Colin's two main topics. First, his concept of “What is your Everest?” We really bring it down from some epic, exotic adventure, to really, just what gives you purpose? That is the best Everest ever. Can you do this in the day to day of your life? Then we hit the primary concept of the 12-Hour Walk, which is rebooting your brain. Something we in our culture today, rarely do. Sleep is like recharging your phone. Needed. But it's not an operating system upgrade. That's the concept in this 12-Hour Walk idea. I encourage you to listen to the discussion, even if you have zero intent to go on a 12-Hour walk. Plenty of other ways to achieve it. The goal would be just to do…anything. Though Randy and I are both planning what we decided to name, a 12-Hour meander. You'll hear us hit on something he says in his new book, The 12-Hour Walk, about so often being asked if he's ever afraid of dying during his epic quests up Mt Everest and across Antarctica. And he says…yes. But he's more afraid of not truly living. Experiencing life. It's not a pithy answer and I dig in on what this looks like for us. I'm not interested in death defying feats, but I sure want to get all I can out of my life. Colin's feats include the world's first solo, unsupported, and fully human-powered crossing of Antarctica, speed records for the Explorers Grand Slam and the Seven Summits, and the first human-powered ocean row across Drake Passage. Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com Twitter/IG: @RyanHawk12 https://twitter.com/RyanHawk12 Colin O'Brady 10-time World Record Holder. New York Times bestselling author of The Impossible First. Colin's highly publicized expeditions have been followed by millions and his work has been featured in the New York Times, The Tonight Show, the BBC, The Joe Rogan Experience, and NBC's Today. His feats include the world's first solo, unsupported, and fully human-powered crossing of Antarctica; speed records for the Explorers Grand Slam and the Seven Summits; and the world's first human-powered ocean row across the Drake Passage. His new book is called The 12 Hour Walk. Notes: What's your Everest - The question he asked all the rich bankers that night that none had an answer to? What's your answer? What are you doing to turn that into a reality? Limiting beliefs - “We are the stories we tell ourselves.” What story are you telling yourself about… Yourself? Life is on a scale of 1 to 10. Most people live most days around a 5 or 6. They don't have any 1s and they don't have any 10s. What can you do to change that? How can you live a life that has some 1s and 10s? Mantra: "Colin! You are strong. You are capable." The most important muscle is the brain. The possible mindset: See the optimism in all opportunities. Colin's mom told him he could achieve anything that he set his mind to. Colin had an accident and caught on fire while jumping a flaming jump rope... His doctor told him that he would probably never walk again. At that moment, Colin set the goal to complete a triathlon. A year later, he WON the Chicago triathlon. With Colin as your guide, The 12-Hour Walk asks you to invest one day in yourself. The goal? Conquering your mind and becoming your best self. By walking alone, unplugging, listening to the voice within, and rewriting the limiting beliefs etched into your psyche, you can break free of the patterns holding you back and learn how to cultivate a “Possible Mindset”—an empowered way of thinking that unlocks a life of limitless possibilities. The reward: being the hero of your own destiny. Question to ask yourself: What is your Everest? What does fulfillment look like? You must take care of yourself first... Excellence: A deep connection with your why. PASSION. Genuine curiosity Love If no one was watching, would you still do it?
So, what would make someone strap a sled loaded with 375 pounds of food and supplies onto their body, then drag it across a stormy, windswept, frozen landmass at the bottom of the earth for 54 days in brutal subzero temperatures, just to say they did it? What might the average person - meaning you and me - who has little to no interest in doing anything remotely so extreme, learn from this experience that would translate into our ability to live better lives, in far less brutal environments, every day? And, how might committing to a more accessible, single-day of challenge, radically change our perspective on all parts of life? These are the questions I had, and the topics we explore with today's guest, ten-time world record-breaking explorer, speaker, entrepreneur, and expert on mindset, Colin O'Brady. His feats include the world's first solo, unsupported, and fully human-powered crossing of Antarctica, speed records for the Explorers Grand Slam and the Seven Summits, and the first human-powered, 700-mile ocean row across Drake Passage, maybe the most dangerous and brutal body of frigid, wave-stream ocean that spans South America to Antarctica. Colin's highly publicized expeditions have been followed by millions and his work has been featured by The New York Times, The Tonight Show, The Joe Rogan Experience, and The Today Show. He is the author of The New York Times bestseller The Impossible First and now The 12-Hour Walk: Invest One Day, Conquer Your Mind, and Unlock Your Best Life. But, what got me so curious, was how preparing for and then mounting these extreme, physically-grueling challenges, was actually as much, if not more about the mind as it was about the body. And, I wanted to know, beyond why anyone would do these things, how they changed him, as a human being, what we all might learn from this and how we might create more accessible, yet transformative versions in our own lives, and experience the powerful benefits that come from them? And, as part of that, we talk about an interesting invitation he's created to say yes to what he calls The 12-Hour Walk. You can find Colin at: Website | The 12-Hour Walk | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Rich Roll about the interplay between body and mind and how we can use each as a lever to evolve the other.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book SparkedMy New Podcast SPARKEDVisit Our Sponsor Page For a Complete List of Vanity URLs & Discount Codes.ClickUp: 15% Off.
