In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home. In each episode, Angela, Tiffany and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls. Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' The Native Land Pod podcast is a highly informative and engaging show that delves into current affairs and politics, particularly as they pertain to black and brown people. The hosts, Angela, Tiffany, and Andrew, are extremely knowledgeable with extensive backgrounds in media and politics, which is evident in their discussions. Each host brings their unique perspectives and experiences to the table, making for a well-rounded and insightful podcast.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the range of topics that are discussed in each episode. The show covers multiple subjects in depth, providing a comprehensive understanding of various political issues. The hosts don't hold back on their criticisms of political leaders from both parties, which adds a refreshing honesty to the conversations. Additionally, they share personal stories and struggles that give context to their journeys professionally, creating a deeper connection with the audience.
However, one drawback of the podcast is that at times it can be challenging to follow due to the input from all three hosts. With each host wanting to contribute their thoughts, there can be moments where it feels like there's a bit of an overload of information or opinions being thrown around. In some discussions, it may be more effective if only two hosts were commenting instead of all three.
In conclusion, The Native Land Pod podcast is highly recommended for anyone interested in current affairs and politics, especially as they relate to black and brown communities. The hosts bring valuable insights and expertise to each episode, covering a wide range of topics with honesty and authenticity. Despite minor issues related to multiple hosts speaking at once at times, the overall quality of this podcast is excellent. Listeners will come away informed and inspired by the perspectives shared by Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum.

Black men are highly visible in American culture, but increasingly absent from the places where long-term economic security is built: college campuses, stable employment, homeownership, and wealth. Why is that happening, and what do we do about it? Dr. Wes Bellamy joins Angela to discuss the new report, The Economic State of Black Men and Boys in the United States, and what the data reveals about the economic path Black men are navigating from childhood into adulthood. This is a conversation about more than unemployment numbers. It is about education, work, wealth, opportunity, and whether the institutions responsible for supporting Black men are actually meeting the moment. From the NAACP convention in Chicago: the cases of Nolan Wells and Karmelo Anthony have raised concerns about the treatment of Black youth and the narratives that shape public perception before due process can take its course. Black communities question whether the systems designed to protect them are working fairly and equitably. From the stage, Larry Hoover’s mother makes a plea for his clemency. Larry is a reformed man who served 50+ years in prison for his role founding the Gangster Disciples. Remember the church protest in Minneapolis that got Don Lemon and Georgia Fort arrested? They aren’t the only ones facing B.S. charges… We’ll hear from student activist Jerome Richardson. And civil rights attorney Ben Crump has represented the family of Nolan Wells, George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, and others. Crump pushes these cases forward even after national attention has moved on. Trump has been doing his best to bypass Congress and the courts whenever he can. In this episode, we take stock of how far Trump has gone to consolidate power in the executive branch. In a recent example of executive power expanding, SCOTUS granted the president the right to fire independent Federal commissioners. Trump then removed ALL the board members of the Election Assistance Committee, an independent committee established by Congress to assist States during election time. One of Trump’s most important supporters in his efforts to become a de facto king was Senator Lindsay Graham, who passed away last weekend. Want to ask Angela a question? 18-year-old Nolan Wells was found dead after going missing while boating off the coast of Mississippi with a group of all-white friends. Nolan is Black, mixed race. In a county that is 66% white, 19% Black, the white sheriff was quick to close the investigation into Nolan’s death and say there was no wrongdoing. The mother of one of the boys involved is a local judge, and she was quick to get on social media and echo the sheriff’s statement. We’re not saying there was foul play. We are saying that the rush to claim ‘no foul play’ breeds mistrust in a racially sensitive case. Our hearts go out to the Wells family in their quest for answers.
