First, Ralph welcomes Washington Post tech journalist Faiz Siddiqui to discuss his new book "Hubris Maximus: The Shattering of Elon Musk." Then, our resident legal expert Bruce Fein stops by to explain how Elon Musk and DOGE are breaking the law. Finally, David picks up our interview with Ralph about Ralph's new book "Civic Self-Respect."Faiz Siddiqui is a technology journalist who writes for the Washington Post and has covered companies such as Tesla, Uber, and Twitter (now X) for the Business Desk. His reporting has focused on transportation, social media and government transformation, among other issues. He is the author of Hubris Maximus: The Shattering of Elon Musk (excerpted here).Over and over throughout this book, there's this recurring theme of victimhood, or at least Elon feeling like his back is against the wall. And why? For what? He and his fans felt they were doing the right things, and yet they were being scrutinized and punished for it.Faiz SiddiquiIn the wake of many Facebook scandals, many Uber scandals, Tesla was the company to work for. Elon was the person to work for. There was no figure as magnetic, who inspired people in the way that Elon did. So recruiting was a strong suit of that company. And the pitch was: come here and change the world.Faiz SiddiquiI think what this book brings is a healthy dose of reality and skepticism… that so far has been lacking from the overall conversation around Musk. And what I you'll find is (I hope you'll find) that you can identify with some of the folks in the book who were lured in by the promises (or just enamored by the guy and what he might be able to bring to society if his goals were ultimately realized) but then ended up feeling disappointed or feeling like—hey, this guy was not all he was cracked up to be. Even if the goals were noble, even if the ambitions were the right ones, the ends might not have justified the means. And so I want people to find, ideally, that their understanding of one of the most powerful people in society today is enriched.Faiz SiddiquiBruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar and an expert on international law. Mr. Fein was Associate Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and he is the author of Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy, and American Empire: Before the Fall.[Elon Musk is] just a walking violation of the federal code.Bruce FeinThere's nowhere to go but up in terms of being a smart consumer. Unfortunately, our Elementary and high schools don't teach consumer skills (they prefer to teach computer skills) and consumer skills result in what is, in effect, a pay raise.Ralph NaderAdam Smith once said many centuries ago that the purpose of production is consumption. And if consumption is informed and feeds back, it can lead to a high-quality economy. It can lead to more integrity to your consumer dollar and to your health and safety. It can lead to less environmental damage. It could lead to stronger regulation of product defects and services that are harmful. It's sort of a bottom-up economic democracy.Ralph NaderComplexity is a tool of power. Complex tax regulations are often blamed on the federal bureaucracy. No, it's the corporate tax lawyers.Ralph NaderNews 4/25/251. On Monday, April 21st, Vatican News announced the death of Pope Francis. This came just one day after Easter Sunday, when Francis met with Vice-President JD Vance. The day prior, Francis had snubbed the VP, sending in his place Cardinal Pietro Parolintoto to “deliver a lecture on compassion,” per the Daily Beast. Pope Francis led the Catholic Church since 2013 and during his tenure sought to move the church in a vastly more progressive direction – preaching against capitalism's destruction of the environment, advocating for abolition of the death penalty and greater acceptance for LGBTQ Catholics within the church, and expanding the reach of the church into non-traditional areas such as Mongolia among many other initiatives. This won him the admiration of many around the world, but also drew the ire of the conservative clergy, particularly in the United States. Francis was the first Jesuit Pope and the first Pope to hail from the New World. Senior churchmen will now assemble to elect a new pope. This conclave is expected to be contentious, with progressives seeking to consolidate Francis' reforms, while the conservatives see an opening to take back the formal organs of the church.2. Instead of death, our next story concerns birth. Noor Abdalla – wife of Mahmoud Khalil, the Palestinian Columbia University student currently being held by ICE in Louisiana – gave birth to their son on Monday. According to a statement by Abdalla, reported by Arya Sundaram of WNYC, ICE denied a request for Khalil to be temporarily released to meet their son, a “purposeful decision by ICE to make [her], Mahmoud, and our son suffer.” Later in this statement, Abdalla writes, “I will continue to fight every day for Mahmoud to come home to us. I know when Mahmoud is freed, he will show our son how to be brave, thoughtful, and compassionate just like his dad.” Khalil's case continues to wind its way through the courts; the result of this case will have significant ramifications for the Trump administration's ability to remove individuals with legal status on the basis of political speech.3. In an encouraging sign, more and more congressional Democrats are getting personally involved in cases of Trump administration overreach on immigration. In addition to Senator Chris Van Hollen's highly-publicized visit to El Salvador, TruthOut reports that Senator Peter Welch met with Mohsen Mahdawi, the Columbia University student entrapped with a false citizenship test, in Vermont. Meanwhile Cape Cod Times reports that on April 22nd, Senator Ed Markey and Representatives Ayanna Pressley and Jim McGovern of Massachusetts – along with Democratic members of the House Troy Carter and Bennie Thompson – traveled to a Louisiana detention facility to demand the release of Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts University grad student who was abducted off the street last month by masked ICE agents. This delegation met with Öztürk herself, as well as Mahmoud Khalil. And CBS reports Representatives Robert Garcia, Maxwell Frost, Yassamin Ansari and Maxine Dexter traveled to El Salvador as well, keeping pressure up regarding the Kilmar Garcia case. Still, hundreds of immigrants of varying status have been deported to the ominous and shadowy CECOT prison camp in El Salvador without due process since Trump began this mass deportation campaign.4. In more troubling Congressional news, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa wrote a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel on April 16th calling for investigations into the progressive activist group CodePink as well as the New York City cultural center known as the People's Forum. This letter is almost textbook McCarthyite red-baiting, claiming CodePink and the People's Forum are nothing more than mouthpieces for the Chinese Communist Party, thereby violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Beyond the fact that these groups are engaging in nothing more than constitutionally protected political speech, it is clear from the citations within the letter that they are targeting these groups because of their pro-Palestine positions. This is just another escalation in the Orwellian suppression of free-speech critical of the Israel's illegal occupation. Unfortunately, just as with McCarthyism itself, we cannot count on congressional Democrats to go to bat for the free speech rights of the Left.5. In a win for consumers, Bloomberg reports Airbnb announced it will now display the total price of stays – including all fees – to comply with a Federal Trade Commission rule set to go into effect next month. Many worried that the FTC would rescind this rule with the changing of the administration, but for now at least, the Trump FTC seems poised to keep it. This new rule is expected to “nudge hosts to lower their cleaning fees to make rentals more affordable, as the sometimes-exorbitant fees have become a key reason why some customers preferred hotels over Airbnb.”6. Another positive move is that the Trump Department of Justice has proceeded with an anti-trust case against Google's advertising technology, or “adtech.” On April 17th, a judge found Google liable for “willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power,” in two markets for online advertising technology, per Reuters. This follows a similar judgment against Google regarding a monopoly on search, which is only amplified by its adoption of AI. Another trial will determine the remedy for this monopoly, which could include Google being forced to sell off aspects of its business. According to this report, “Google has previously explored selling its ad exchange to appease European antitrust regulators.” Senator Amy Klobuchar, former chair of the antitrust subcommittee, called the ruling “a big win for consumers, small businesses, and content creators that will open digital markets to more innovation and lower prices.”7. On the other hand, Public Citizen's Rick Claypool reports, “58 corporations facing federal investigations & enforcement lawsuits collectively gave $50 million to Trump's inaugural fund. Cases against 11 of these corporations have already been dismissed or withdrawn, and 6 have been halted.” More granular information about each of these enforcement actions is available through Public Citizen's Corporate Enforcement Tracker database, but the big picture is clear: If a corporation wants the government off its back, all they have to do is make a handsome contribution. The Trump administration is pay-to-play and open for business.8. In another instance of the administration tying the hands of key federal regulators, the Food and Drug Administration will “End its Routine Food Safety Inspections,” according to the National Public Health Information Coalition. The FDA plans to “shift most…food safety inspections to state and local agencies.” While some food inspections are conducted at the state and local level, public health advocates are raising concerns about “oversight and consistency.” According to CBS, these plans have not been finalized.9. Turning to the very worst part of this administration, NOTUS reports “The DOGE website, the only public accounting of Elon Musk and President Donald Trump's attempts to reduce federal government spending…[has posted]…revisions that suggest DOGE was previously overstating its savings by hundreds of millions of dollars.” These stunning, if not altogether surprising, overestimations are staggering in scale. “On Tuesday [April 15th] alone, DOGE removed around $962 million in previously claimed cuts and altered hundreds of others to boost individual items' purported ‘savings' values.” The incompetence of DOGE has led Musk to reduce the target goal of spending cuts, down from $1 trillion to just $150 billion – a drop in the bucket when it comes to federal spending and certainly not worth the evisceration of Social Security and other programs these cuts have entailed.10. Finally, in more bad news for Elon Musk, Reuters reports the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is tightening electric vehicle battery safety standards, specifically to “ensure…batteries won't catch fire or explode.” This is quite a humble regulatory goal. However, this new regulation could spell disaster for Tesla. According to Tesla-fire.com, there have been 232 confirmed cases of Tesla fires and “83 Fatalities Involving a Tesla Car Fire.” If I were a Chinese EV regulator, I would be wary of allowing Tesla vehicles on the roads. But that's just me.This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Get full access to Ralph Nader Radio Hour at www.ralphnaderradiohour.com/subscribe
The CODY bot, a tool used to streamline procurement processes at the General Services Administration, is now ready for use across the federal landscape after three years of buildout. CODY aggregates prerequisite data into a checklist, according to GSA officials familiar with the tool, enabling staffers to see if a vendor has met all representation requirements — ensuring there is no active federal debt against a vendor, and no exclusionary or responsibility cautions to trigger notifications. The agency primarily tracks how many hours the bot saves in a year rather than the costs saved, according to one of the officials. GSA Administrator Stephen Ehikian posted on X that the bot's completion resulted in the cancellation of a $423,000 contract. “President Trump's GSA is at the forefront of leveraging technology for government to produce tools that boost productivity and our employee's potential,” Ehikian said in a statement to FedScoop. A pair of House Democrats are sounding the alarm about the U.S. Secret Service's use of counter-drone technology, which recently triggered air traffic control system alerts at the Washington National Airport. Democratic Reps. Rick Larsen of Washington and Bennie Thompson of Mississippi are demanding more information about the use of the technology and raising concerns about whether the Department of Homeland Security component is following proper procedures. In a Monday letter sent to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, the lawmakers pointed to alerts produced by the Traffic Collision Avoidance System last month. These alerts made erroneous recommendations to several commercial and Coast Guard aircraft, Larsen and Thompson say. And according to analysis conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration, the alerts were produced by Secret Service anti-drone technology at a nearby Defense Department location. The confusion comes after the deadly crash between a commercial airline and an Army helicopter at DCA airport earlier this year, which resulted in dozens of deaths. While DHS has launched an investigation, the Democratic congressmen say the counter-drone technology deployed by the DOD was operating outside existing notifications — and that the Secret Service did not share required notifications with the FAA. Bennie Thompson) is visiting the Mexican border in California to examine the Trump Administration's border policies. SEASON 3 EPISODE 90: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: To repeat myself - because I’m RIGHT - File motions to impeach Trump NOW. Move to impeach Trump today, AND KEEP MOVING to impeach Trump every day through next year’s midterms. Impeachment is UNDEFEATED. UNDEFEATED in American history. House Democrats: he handed you TWELVE, maybe FIFTEEN new counts on Friday night alone. Blatantly, brazenly illegal dismissals of Departmental Inspector Generals, just as Project 2025 promised, and the School Safety Board. Elimination of oversight. Elimination of legal protections against the mass murder of children. In the old days you might’ve arrested Trump. Now you are limited to impeachment bills that will all fail EXCEPT THEY WILL ULTIMATELY SUCCEED. Impeach him for the Friday Night massacre. Impeach him for circumventing the 14th Amendment. He just ramped up the migrant arrest quota to 1500 a day and started raids in Chicago yesterday: Impeach him for violating the 4th Amendment. And if I hear one more piece of blowback to my PREVIOUS call to impeach him no matter the outcome, one more head-shake from a cowardly Democrat, and especially one more factually inaccurate claim that it doesn’t work, one more self-absorbed loser saying ‘Impeach? Yeah, sounds good. How did it work out for us last time? Pretty effing well, actually. The mere TALK of impeaching Trump helped the Democrats win the House in 2018 and break Trump tri-partite control of government. The FIRST impeachment was followed by keeping the house in 2020 and after the Georgia election, taking the senate in 2020, and oh by the way the White House in 2020. The SECOND impeachment crushed any lingering attempt by Trump to overthrow the Biden Government-In-Waiting in 2021 and provided the impetus for the January 6th prosecutions. In fact, since Nixon, every party that impeached or TRIED to impeach a president won the next elections. House, Senate, White House. Thirteen straight. IMPEACHMENT – EVEN FAILED IMPEACHMENT - IS UNDEFEATED. ALSO: The Media capitulation continues. Acosta's show cancelled by the latest CNN job who hasn't been able to keep a job since 2000. And how did appeasing Trump work out for you ABC, CBS, and NBC? Trump's FCC reinstated license challenges against your stations, Trump wants Maddow jailed, and at Disney: ESPN's Stephen A. Smith just made a Trumpist idiot out of himself. B-Block (35:12) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Trump has too many Bennies to keep them all straight: can't remember the Chairman of the January 6th Committee he wants to jail. Even the NFL is sucking up to Elon "It Only LOOKED Like A Nazi Salute" Trump. And the first baseball player since like 1877 to get the mouth sores and skin rashes of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease just endorsed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. C-Block (46:25) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: You know what it's like in this country right now? It's like we all just woke up from the anesthesia in the MIDDLE of a medical procedure. You know how I know this? Because I'm one of those people who actually DID wake up in the middle of a medical procedure - and I'm having the same procedure TOMORROW.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

President Biden is not done trolling Trump, and honoring true patriots by doing it, with the announcement that the 2 co-chairs of the Jan6 Committee, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, and GOP Rep. Liz Cheney are both being awarded the President's Citizen Medal for helping to protect democracy in the face of great personal and political sacrifice. AP's Lisa Dwyer reports that Biden awarded the second highest civilian award to Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson.
Longtime Congressman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., was honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Joe Biden during a White House ceremony on Thursday. Thompson, 76, whose congressional career spans over 30 years, has long been a defender of democracy. As former chairman of the Jan. 6 House Select Committee and the first Black chair of the Homeland Security Committee, Thompson's leadership earned praise on Capitol Hill. Thompson worked alongside icons like Fannie Lou Hamer, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and John Lewis. His legacy, rooted in advancing civil rights and defending the U.S. Constitution, made him a fitting recipient of this honor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

[SEGMENT 1-1] Pardons 1 - Schiff Democrats are jumping ship, running for the hills, scurrying down their rat holes. For a group that acts so holier than thou, they sure seem scared. Welcome… If I haven't done anything wrong, I'm cool as a polar bears butt. Does anybody really believe that Adam Schiff doesn't want a preemptive pardon? That's what he claims, and that's what he said. But he didn't say he doesn't want a pardon—he just doesn't want a preemptive one. That's like saying, “I'm not going to eat the cake right now… but leave it on the counter. Just in case.” [SEGMENT 1-2] Pardons 2 -Schiff Schiff conveniently leaked this morsel during an interview with George Stephanopoulos, another maestro of moral posturing. Stephanopoulos—whose journalistic credibility is rivaled only by his ability to sidestep Clinton-era scandals—asked Schiff if he thought Trump might prosecute members of the Jan. 6 committee. “We don't need pardons because we're proud of our work.” Schiff replied. Oh, really? Proud of the committee's work? Work that included hiding exculpatory evidence, cherry-picking videos, and pushing a narrative so flimsy it makes Biden's staircase skills look stable? Schiff has claimed that pardons set a bad precedent. And well, Shifty can't have his reputation impugned with the specter of a pardon. Who could blame him though for not wanting a pardon from Biden. That's one complete list of scoundrels. Clearly, Shifty wants us to know that he's got principles. He likes his pardon served fresh, not pre-packaged. The Benny Hill Moment Here's where the comedy ramps up. While Schiff was pretending to be the virtuous hero of this melodrama, Rep. Bennie Thompson, the former Jan. 6 committee chair, was busy saying, “Sure, I'd take a preemptive pardon!” He even called it Biden's prerogative. Prerogative? Sure. But the moment you accept a pardon, you're basically hanging a neon “I'm guilty” sign around your neck. This brings us to Adam Kinzinger, Schiff's ex-committee buddy, who once declared, “The only reason I know to ask for a pardon is you think you committed a crime.” [X] SB – Kinzinger on pardons Adam Kinzinger in 2022: “The only reason to ask for a pardon is because you think you've committed a crime.” https://t.co/0R5WDrIu0c — Natalie Winters (@nataliegwinters) https://twitter.com/nataliegwinters/status/1867550759325253899?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Kinzinger's words aged like a room-temperature tuna sandwich. Maybe these two need to get with Bennie Johnson before they lock in their final answers. The Insurrection That Wasn't Let's not forget why Schiff and his crew are squirming in the first place. The Jan. 6 narrative was their crown jewel—a supposed coup attempt that turned out to be more of a Capitol-themed field trip. When the footage finally emerged, it didn't show rampaging hordes. Instead, we watched patriots meandering through the Capital as if it were The Louvre. One guy even stopped to straighten some papers. That's the Left's big insurrection, that they compared to the Civil War and the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. They called Trump treasonous in his non-actions. But speaking of treason, Schiff's team conveniently deleted mountains of data related to their “findings.” How many guesses do you need to understand why? Their accusations against Trump and the protesters wouldn't survive a light breeze, let alone real Department of Justice scrutiny. Schiff's Private Pardon Chat with Biden While Schiff claims he doesn't need a pardon, he spoke with Biden for exactly that reason. The two discussed J6, because Joe Biden is planning to pardon the entire committee. Because they are guilty. Why would Stephanopoulos even broach the subject, if this weren't a reasonable consideration. The January 6 Committee was a total farce. The people selectively chosen. After their kangaroo court investigation, they reported what they were told to report. In truth, they lied about evidence. Then, they buried exonerating footage for years. Now they have their media minions running interference for them. For years, Schiff painted Trump as the villain of democracy. But now, he's the one looking for a legal life raft. The irony is thicker than Hunter Biden's tax evasion file. Nobody believes Schiff doesn't want a pardon. Doublespeak about as convincing as Bill Clinton's wedding vows.[SEGMENT 1-3] Pardons 3 “From Drug Lords to Fraudsters: Biden's Clemency Chaos” Joe Biden's “Clemency Circus”: Pardon Deals for the Devil's Rolodex When Joe Biden issued a record-setting number of clemencies, it wasn't exactly a roll call of reformed citizens who turned their lives around knitting scarves or mentoring troubled youth. Instead, the list reads more like a casting call for the next season of Narcos—drug traffickers, cartel associates, and financial fraudsters were all given an early Christmas gift. If Biden's clemency roster were a party, you'd better wear a bulletproof vest.Biden's “Hall of Shame” Pardons: The Hypocrisy Chronicles Who are they? Various state-level and federal officials involved in bribery, fraud, and general misuse of office. Who are they? Financial criminals who engaged in insider trading or hedge fund mismanagement, causing economic ripples. Francesk Shkambi: The Albanian Cocaine Kingpin- Backstory: Convicted in 2014 for running a criminal enterprise that trafficked massive quantities of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and Ecstasy across continents. This wasn't a small-time operation; Shkambi was arranging shipments from Mexico to Europe and everywhere in between.- Clemency Twist: Set https://casetext.com/case/united-states-v-shkambi-7 in 2029, Biden decided Shkambi deserved a six-year head start on his freedom.- Irony Meter: Biden promised transparency, yet pardoned a man with international drug-trafficking ties. What's next? Hunter Biden's laptop gets a TV movie deal titled Breaking Dad?- Who are they? Former drug offenders turned advocates for reform who have, in some cases, exploited loopholes to sell unregulated products under “wellness” branding.- Why it's controversial: While their clemency reflects Biden's softer approach to drugs, critics wonder if these gestures are meant to whitewash his role in passing the 1994 Crime Bill.- Irony Meter: Medium. Biden's old slogan was “Tough on crime.” But not if it involves drugs his son uses routinely. Jose Valdez: The Highway Drug Mogul- Backstory: From 2015 to 2016, Valdez coordinated the distribution of large-scale cocaine and marijuana shipments across the U.S., recruiting accomplices like a college frat president recruiting for rush week. Jose Valdez, whose sentence Biden commuted, “coordinated the distribution of large quantities of cocaine and marijuana for a drug-trafficking organization based in El Paso, Texas, from March of 2015 through July of 2016,” per court https://casetext.com/case/valdez-v-united-states-47?q=%2290547-380%22&sort=relevance&p=1&type=case&tab=keyword&jxs=.- Valdez also “recruited numerous individuals to deliver narcotics to cities throughout the United States.” His scheduled release date was previously set for November 2026, according to the BOP.- Clemency Twist: Originally set for release in 2026, Valdez is now free to expand his operations... or maybe start a podcast about his time inside.- Irony Meter: While Democrats rail against the opioid crisis, Biden sets the table for cocaine's unofficial comeback tour.[SEGMENT X-4] Pardons 4 I mentioned a few of the near-do-wells that Biden pardoned… Old Habits Die Hard: The Biden Family Business Parallel Is anyone surprised? The Biden family's social circle looks like a rogues' gallery of bad decisions. Between Hunter's laptop escapades and James Biden's dubious deals, it's as if the Bidens have been preparing for their own Godfather reboot. Biden's pardon pen seems to cater to his brand: shady characters and questionable business ventures. Remember, none of the Biden family ventures turned a profit. Even their “friends” seem to wind up in prison—or worse, working as political consultants. Meera Sach: Diluted Chemo Doctor Biden commuted the prison sentence of Meera Sachdeva, a cancer doctor who gave diluted chemo drugs to patients as part of an $8 million Medicare fraud. But Sachdeva didn't stop there. She also re-used old needles, leading to a lawsuit by a patient who claimed he contracted HIV. The list of scoundrels didn't stop there. Check out this next character. Mark Ciavarella: The Kids-for-Cash Judge The most egregious hypothetical pardon would be Mark Ciavarella, the disgraced Pennsylvania judge who took bribes to send juveniles to for-profit detention centers. While he hasn't received clemency (yet), it wouldn't be a shocker. After all, Biden pardoned individuals convicted of crimes against children. The irony here is thicker than Hunter's laptop encryption. Pardoning him would be like nominating the Kermit Gosnell for a humanitarian award. Irony Meter: Through the roof. A president who talks about “protecting the children” yet opens the gates for their abuser? Jeffrey Epstein is wishing he hadn't hanged himself, huh? Alright, let's put on our comedy hats and dive into Biden's pardon list—it's less "justice" and more like the guest list for a Bernie Madoff TED Talk: "How to Scam Your Way to the Top Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Facebook post was made from the alleged account of a staff member of Congressman Bennie Thompson about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. On Saturday, Trump was hosting a rally in Pennsylvania when he was shot at and grazed in the ear by a bullet. That same day, the Facebook page of Jacqueline Marsaw made a post, stating, “I don't condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don't miss next time oops that wasn't me saying that.” The post has since been deleted. According to a release on Thompson's website, Marsaw was welcomed to his staff as a caseworker and welcomed her to his Natchez District Office on July 10, 2023. The release further states that Marsaw is a NAACP member, where she has served as the secretary, vice president, and president. According to multiple reports, Marsaw has been fired by Congressman Thompson.

United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Jackson Friday to commemorate the beginning of a multimillion-dollar improvement project to about 1.5 miles of Medgar Evers Boulevard. Friday, about a block away from the road's namesake, Medgar Evers and his family home in North Jackson, Buttigieg, joined by U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Jackson, Reena Evers Everette, Central District Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons and others held a groundbreaking to celebrate the beginning of the project. The Medgar Evers Boulevard Project is slated to be completed by 2026. The project is funded through a $20 million grant from Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Discretionary Grant program in 2021. The City of Jackson will need to put up matching funds as well. The scope of the work will include installing sidewalks and new streetlamps, repairing roads, building medians and even replacing sewer and water drainage infrastructure along the road. Buttigieg said those improvements would be necessary to reconnect the area to the rest of modern Jackson and spur economic development in the area. Buttigieg added that the project represents a key aspect of the civil rights movement, which connects infrastructural needs for better transportation to disadvantaged communities so that everyone has the same opportunities to grow. "As we bear the moral weight of our inheritance, it feels a little bit strange to be talking about streetlights and ports, and highway funding and some of the other day to day transportation needs that we're here to do something about," he said. "Equitable transportation has always been one of the core commitments, and for that reason has also always been one of the most important battlegrounds of the struggle for racial and economic justice and civil rights in this country." Everette, who is Evers' daughter, thanked both Buttigieg and Thompson for their work in Washington D.C. and in Congress to secure the necessary funds for the project. "(It's about) raising the bar of excellence for the community, to have pride in the infrastructure that starts from the very core that goes on to beautification that goes on to the best pride in the world for the communities," Everette said. "I just wanted to say thank you very much." The road's namesake, Evers, was a prominent civil rights activist in Jackson and served as the NAACP's first field secretary until he was assassinated in June 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith, a white man from Greenwood. Thompson said that the money USDOT has given to the city to begin the project should be seen as a steppingstone to other needs throughout the city, and a method to reconnect cities that were split by highways and other projects, leaving some out of the town's growth through the years. "Statistics will show all throughout countries that communities were split by interstate highways, communities were divided," he said. "Here is a way of trying to reconnect and fix some of the errors of that. This is just one of those down payments on making a difference. This down payment, will fix some of the problems associated with years of neglect." Buttigieg added that throughout his time visiting Mississippi communities throughout the last few days, he sees more and more areas that will need to be addressed to establish more equitable transportation, which he said is essential to growing an area. "Better transportation can mean better opportunities for small business and for families," he said. "Good transportation can lead directly to economic opportunity in the same way that lack of access to transportation can cut people off from opportunity. We're here to make sure that transportation connects, that it doesn't divide."
If there's a positive about watching President Trump be churned through the meat grinder, it's watching with very clear eyes as the Deep States rushes to cover up its own fraud and corruption. As Team Red records a record two-day haul of $200 million in donations, J6 Committee chair Bennie Thompson moves to strip Trump's secret service detail should he be sentenced to prison. (Is this crazy stuff or WHAT?) JD Vance emerges as a leaning VP contender and Cory Mills suggests moving the Republican National Convention to Independence Day.
I take a full segment to raise hell about Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson sending a passive aggressive death threat to President Donald J. Trump for trying to have his secret service protection removed if he goes to prison.
SERIES 2 EPISODE 162: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Stochastic threat number one million. Trump returns to his propaganda channel to insist that his thugs should be, quoting his online post, “allowed to protest at the front steps of Courthouses, all over the country” rather than be “rudely and systematically shut down and ushered off to far away ‘holding areas' essentially denying them their constitutional rights.” He tells them “Rally behind MAGA. Save our country. The only thing you have to fear is fear itself.” When THAT stochastic call to lay siege to federal buildings didn't work (why does that sound SO familiar?) Trump tried what he thinks is smooth and subtle. “The Palestinian Protests at Columbia University have closed the college down. But the area surrounding the Courthouse in Downtown Manhattan, is closed up like a drum, with New York City's Finest (Police) all over the place. Why not send some to Columbia… Republicans want the right to protest in front of the courthouse like everyone else.” Again. Seems oddly familiar. Reduce law enforcement around an area Trump wants to see sacked by gangs and militias and morons ready to spring him or hang a Vice President or, who knows, kill a judge. He forgot to note “will be wild.” Justice Juan Merchan There is little for Justice Juan Merchan to DO about this latest threat other than to encourage the city and the state of New York to have tanks ready because frankly if Trump terrorist gangs again rise up against the government as he had them do on January 6th the only way the point is going to be made clear is if it ends with the New York Department of Sanitation having to clean them up with brooms and hoses and garbage trucks. But with Trump following yesterday's half-day in court ending with more violations of the gag order, Merchan can at least regain control of this mess by - if not jailing Trump at today's gag order hearing - at least saying: if you do it again I will revoke your jail and send you to Rikers Island. We have to grasp this nettle eventually, let's do it now. In the long term, the ACTUAL Trump Legal headline may have come not from New York but Florida where witness exhibits in the Trump Espionage case reveal that the feds have a small coterie of witnesses close to Trump including an unidentified Person 16, clearly a senior Trump aide but not in the innermost circle, who revealed nothing less than the fact that Trump's “people” told his valet and co-defendant Walt Nauta not to worry about the stolen documents case, that it's not going anywhere, yet even if he were to, say, get charged with lying to the FBI, Trump will pardon him after he regains power. B-Block (26:33) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The man Nate Silver once thought was a top-five candidate to be the next Democratic presidential nominee, Eric Adams, is down to 16% support for re-election as mayor of New York. Kevin McCarthy is surprised to learn his claim Hillary Clinton never conceded is a lie. And ESPN's policy - no, you can't be a sportscaster on one station and an advocate for a presidential candidate on another - was right. I know: I helped to author it because the day when you (or I) could is long gone. So why is today's ESPN letting Stephen A. Smith do it? Why is he campaigning for Trump on Fox News? ESPN must silence him - or fire him. C-Block (37:32) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: So I once had an agent named Art Kaminsky who at the same time he was negotiating to extend my deal at KCBS in Los Angeles was also sending his other clients in for the job. And he ordered his partner Lou Oppenheim to NOT tell me as he literally walked out of the meeting at which KCBS told him whether or not I was staying. This all ends with them serving me with papers hours before my first SportsCenter, 32 years ago this month!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said an FBI Whistleblower produced an email the federal government sent Bank of America suggesting BofA look at all debit and credit card purchases around J6, 2021 around the D.C. area to overlay that information with any gun purchases at the time. Jordan said the initial documents they received sounded a lot like the memo the FBI put out a year ago targeting pro-life, traditional Catholics as potential domestic violent extremists. Jordan said Hunter sold $1.5 million of his art. His attorney Kevin Morris bought $875,000 of it but only paid the gallery it's commission, not the full price. Morris and another big Dem donor made most of the purchases. The House is also conducting an investigation of the J6 Committee and the deletion of files. J6 chairman Bennie Thompson sent information to the Biden White House instead of making it available to Congress and the new incoming Republican majority. Jordan says that's problematic and Congressman Barry Loudermilk is leading that investigation.
