District Attorney of Fulton County Fani Willis has completed her special grand jury investigation of election tampering in 2020. The special purpose grand jury has completed its report and has been dissolved, and the supervising judge yesterday scheduled a hearing for January 24 to decide whether to make the report public. Pennsylvania abuse survivors have been trying to get justice for a long time. The 2018 Grand Jury Report, which discovered over 1,000 victims and 300 pedophile priests, recommended that a two year window be opened for victims who fell under an outdated statute of limitations. In 2018 the proposed law passed overwhelmingly in the Pennsylvania House only to have it squashed by then President pro tempore of the Senate, Joe Scarnati. He intentionally stalled the bill until the clock ran out for that legislative session, effectively killing the bill. Most recently, a state constitutional amendment allowing lawsuits for outdated claims was to appear on the ballot this May. However, that was once again squashed when a "clerical error" was announced, disqualifying the amendment to appear on the ballot. The earliest it can appear on the ballot is in 2023. In this episode, we talk about the implications of this. Was it foul play or is there this level of incompetency in Harrisburg? Either way, the result is devastating injustice for abuse survivors once again. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/pennsylvania-agency-bungles-ballot-referendum-child-sex-victims-n1256403Intro-- Film Glitch by Snowflake (c) copyright 2017 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/snowflake/56350 Ft: reusenoiseOutro-- I Have Often Told You Stories (guitar instrumental) by Ivan Chew (c) copyright 2013 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/ramblinglibrarian/41284
Street2Home was announced in 2018 as an initiative by the city and county of Fresno to coordinate homelessness mitigation across organizations . But in a report released Monday , the Fresno County Grand Jury found it doesn’t have a staff, or board yet. H. Spees, director of strategic initiatives for Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, says that’s true, but work is getting done. “Although Street2Home has not been implemented in name, it’s been field tested and a virtual collective impact structure was formed, and it’s really paid off,” said Spees. The structure has been virtual because it came together after the pandemic hit. COVID-19 has delayed some efforts, he says. Still, CARES Act funding has helped the city make headway in developing low-income housing. “When COVID hit we were able to take the millions of dollars that are coming our way to put together a community-wide, COVID-19 homeless response that has been incredibly effective,” said Spees. This has included purchasing three hotels for

Tweet to Patrick HERE ----------------------------------------------------- The Grand Jury Report, released on August 14, destroyed any residual belief that the “long Lent of 2002” was somehow “a thing of the past.” It is devastating, and essentially concludes that the Catholic Church is a criminal syndicate that exists to protect the predators who lead it. This on the heels of the Theodore “Uncle Ted” McCarrick scandal, and the Chilean bishop scandal (badly botched by Pope Francis), the collosal problem of homosexual corruption in Nicaragua under Cardinal Maradiaga, and sundry financial malfeasance. Catholics everywhere are disgusted, demoralized, and prone to feelings of despair. Enter Dr. Ralph Martin with a prescription of hope. He wrote a perceptive and, I believe, prophetic, Letter to fellow troubled Catholics in the newsletter put out by Renewal Ministries, of which he is the president. What is needed—badly—is a sense of perspective and hope. Not “optimism,” not “moving forward,” and certainly not “lamenting the tragedy.” It’s not a tragedy. It’s a series of sexual crimes and sins that cry to heaven for vengeance. Where is the Lord Jesus in all this? Ralph Martin, seminary professor, writer, and TV/Radio host, and longtime renewal leader, cuts to the quick. In this episode you will learn: How to frame the scandal in its historical context What the scandal is really about (hint: it’s not “pedophile priests”) The need to double-down on prayer and fasting for the Church Why we need to stop “protecting the Church’s image” Why this crisis resembles the way God punished faithless Israel The main reason for hope as we survey the wreckage Resources recommended in this episode: Dear Troubled Catholics letter from Ralph Martin The Fulfillment of All Desire by Ralph Martin Crisis of Truth: The Attack on Faith, Morality and Mission in the Catholic Church by Ralph Martin Question of the week Has this series of scandals led you to deepen your relationship with Christ? Aaron Freiwald, Managing Partner of Freiwald Law and host of the weekly podcast series Good Law | Bad Law, is joined by Marci A. Hamilton, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania and one of the country’s leading experts on child abuse statutes of limitations, to discuss the Catholic Church, specifically in regards to the recently released Grand Jury report on child abuse and sexual assault in the Catholic Church institution in Pennsylvania. Marci and Aaron sit down to discuss the impact and importance of the Grand Jury’s report as well as the historical significance it holds. The first of its kind the report is the most extensive look at the scope of the issue. Detailed in 886 pages, the report outlines the scale of the problem with over 300 priests named and listing over 1,000 victims. Throughout the episode Marci details her previous experience with child sex abuse cases and the injustices that she has seen as a result of short statutes of limitations, expressing her own opinions on the report and the steps that should be taken next. For 26 years Marci has worked on issues involving religious groups that break the law. In 1997, Marci argued before the United States Supreme Court in the matter Boerne v. Flores, a case addressing whether or not the federal government could pass a law that could set a standard for religious liberty that had never been seen in the U.S. before. An accomplished author, Marci has written several books on the issue as well as a book advocating for the elimination of child sex abuse statutes of limitations. Marci has been an influential critic of extreme religious liberty, advocating for the vulnerable. Join in as Aaron and Marci discuss the recent Grand Jury report on child sex abuse in Pennsylvania, the problems with short statues of limitations in regards to child sex abuse cases and the impact that Tuesday’s Grand Jury report could have on this global epidemic. Legal Talk Network producer Laurence Colletti interviews Gilda Mariani about the New York State Supreme Court's Grand Jury Report at the 2014 Workers' Injury Law and Advocacy Group Conference. After the Grand Jury Report on employer fraud was released, Mariani explains, the response and next steps involved a roundtable discussion including employees, employers, chairs of New York Bar associations, city council members, a member of legislature, and a data analyst. The courses of action suggested included addressing legislation and putting together a pilot study to help detect elements of employer fraud. Gilda Mariani discussed aspects of premium fraud at a WILG event called Employer Misclassification Fraud.
