This week, Drewby and Yergy head to South Carolina to discuss the sad case of Heather Baynard, a 14-year-old girl living with spastic quadriplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. Due to her condition, her 21-year-old brother, Edward, became her State sponsored caretaker. But due to the pandemic, no one actually stopped into the Baynard home to make sure that Heather was actually being taken care of. So when her parents brought her to the emergency room and plunked her down like a "sack of potatoes" and it was clear to everyone that Heather had been dead for some time, there were of course, question as to how this vulnerable teenage girl was allowed to suffer and die in such a horrific manner.  Support Our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themiserymachine PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/themiserymachine Join Our Facebook Group: https://t.co/DeSZIIMgXs?amp=1 Instagram: miserymachinepodcast Twitter: misery_podcast Discord: https://discord.gg/kCCzjZM #themiserymachine #podcast #truecrime Source Material: https://www.harrisnadeaumortuary.com/obituaries/heather-baynard https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/heather-baynard-obituary?id=34271037 https://www.spartanburgcounty.org/DocumentCenter/View/104076/103124--Gaffney-Couple-and-Son-Found-Guilty-of-The-Murder-of-Special-Needs-Daughter https://people.com/parents-son-convicted-murder-daughter-disabilities-8739246 https://www.spartanburgcounty.org/DocumentCenter/View/104076/103124--Gaffney-Couple-and-Son-Found-Guilty-of-The-Murder-of-Special-Needs-Daughter https://nypost.com/2024/11/04/us-news/south-carolina-family-neglected-disabled-daughter-whose-rotted-legs-looked-like-raw-meat-so-severely-she-died/ https://public.doc.state.sc.us/scdc-public/ https://public.doc.state.sc.us/scdc-public/inmateDetails.do?id=%2000395666 https://public.doc.state.sc.us/scdc-public/inmateDetails.do?id=%2000395603 https://public.doc.state.sc.us/scdc-public/inmateDetails.do?id=%2000395584 https://www.foxcarolina.com/2024/10/31/upstate-family-found-guilty-murder-worst-case-child-neglect/ https://local12.com/news/nation-world/worst-case-neglect-seen-family-sentenced-murder-teen-with-disabilities-disabled-heather-baynard-mother-father-horrific-brutal-conditions-garbage-infested-roaches-animal-urine-feces-cerebral-palsy-life-prison-malnourished-medical-care-south-carolina https://lawandcrime.com/crime/extreme-signs-of-disintegration-mother-father-and-son-allowed-severely-disabled-14-year-old-girl-to-waste-away-in-a-crib-where-she-was-covered-in-urine-and-feces/ https://www.wspa.com/news/local-news/3-sentenced-in-cherokee-co-murder-of-teen-with-disabilities/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyS6tu-GoNg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqrYU439rF4 https://www.foxcarolina.com/2023/08/01/new-lawsuit-reveals-deplorable-conditions-child-abuse-case/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YH5_uKTzlc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReIEiniEnCE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Lacey_Fletcher https://www.wafb.com/2024/03/20/parents-lacey-fletcher-sentenced-daughters-death/ https://www.29news.com/2024/03/21/parents-autistic-daughter-who-melted-into-couch-sentenced/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11442890/ https://www.goupstate.com/story/news/local/2024/12/10/lawmakers-propose-bill-to-close-gap-in-sc-homicide-by-child-abuse-law/76800103007/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52bAsTfYdbE&t=1s https://www.facebook.com/AxcessHomeCare/ https://www.google.com/search?q=types+of+cerebral+palsy https://www.google.com/search?q=Spastic+Quadriplegia https://www.axcesscare.com/ https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/239331107/lacey_ellen-fletcher https://bjs.ojp.gov/library/publications/crime-against-persons-disabilities-2009-2019-statistical-tables#:~:text=Persons%20with%20cognitive%20disabilities%20had,those%20against%20persons%20without%20disabilities. https://www.29news.com/2024/03/21/parents-autistic-daughter-who-melted-into-couch-sentenced/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1721448/#:~:text=Among%20twins%2C%20if%20one%20twin,are%20particularly%20at%20high%20risk

Many other students recognized were in the audience as wellDan Sherman provided the annual update on the town progress towards funding their OPEB liability. We are in good stead, better off than many other MA communities. We will do better once the Norfolk Retirement liability is paid off (2035ish) and that amount of funding can be shifted to the OPEB liability to advance the payoff scheduleApproval for easement granted to DCR for access to SNETT extension, also a commitment from them for $1M to help prepare it when the trail does become ours (will take time with Federal process)From TA Report - another first in that the Town is first in using opioid funding for the Art Pharmacy program, more to come on this exciting opportunity for health with an economic development aspect for local arts/culture organizationsPart 2 - FY 2026 BudgetFY 2026 - Town Administrator Jamie Hellen walked through the preview of the budget, some updates had been previewed most recently on Tuesday at the Senior Center with the Joint BUdget Listening Session. More was expanded upon here. The documents will be posted to the Town budget page today. We are in a $3.8M deficit and coming up with that (or an amount close to it) is likely the only way to maintain "level service". What we have is what will stay, if we want increases or expansions to such services, we need to get by this one first before considering more. Too Many Deer Guest Professor Bernd Blossey, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, Cornell University Across northeast America, overwhelming numbers of native white tail deer, with their voracious and indiscriminate appetites, are reducing forest biodiversity and preventing healthy forest regeneration. While farms and orchards must build high fences to protect their crops, how can we defend and restore our private and municipal properties and the rest of our vulnerable landscape? Environmental scientists, like Professor Bernd Blossey, are working toward solutions. Blossey works in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University. Born and raised in northern Germany, Blossey graduated from Kiel University with degrees in ecology, entomology and limnology. His main focus areas are assessments of how invasive plants, earthworms and deer impact native organisms, which include plants, amphibians, birds and insects. Blossey directs Cornell's College of Agricultural and Life Science's Ecology and Management of Invasive Plants Program and chairs the Cornell Deer Management Committee. His overall objective is to increase the conservation values of all lands through development of best management practices. This week, Drewby and Yergy are back in Ohio to discuss the case of a sweet little girl named Sereniti Jazzlyn-Sky Blankenship-Sutley, who fell victim to an all too common monster in the cases we cover... Mom's new man. On October 7, 2017, at 5:15 AM, Sereneti's mother, Kelsie, found the 13-month-old little girl unresponsive. She was rushed to the emergency room, where she was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, mom's new man, Joshua Gurto, fled Ohio, and lead police on an interstate manhunt. He was ultimately apprehended in Pennsylvania. While running Joshua's DNA, it was discovered that his profile was tied to an unsolved 2004 rape and burglary case, where the victim was beaten in the head with a hammer.    Support Our Time to dissect another of the US Supreme Court's strict constitutionalist rants, aka a court opinion, Grant's Pass, Oregon v Johnson, a decision that allows municipalities to criminalize homelessness. Or does it? What are the implications for the US homeless population? What are the solutions? And what shoes will your mayor wear to kick people off the streets?
