    Prayer

Play Episode Listen Later May 31, 2023 21:10 Transcription Available

Let's talk about prayerlessness. It is so easy to find yourself in the Wilderness refusing to talk to God or expecting God to answer your prayers. Prayerlessness is often the result of a deeply disappointed soul that simply stops asking and stops hoping for anything more than what will be. But not only is that a position of defeat, it is also a surrendering of our identity and authority. Prayer is transformative and reminds us of who we are and Who is on our side. We desperately need to be reminded of that in dry places. So let us pray big, bold, brave prayers to a God Who still hears and sees us in a wilderness place. Let us become mature sons and daughters who refuse to be quelled into quiet. Let us travel confidently through what the enemy means to harm us with and instead become armed with strength, Truth, and Grace.Connect with the Walking Well PodcastInstagram- @WalkingWellPodcastFacebook- Walking Well Podcast with Gilon MartsWebsite- https://www.gilonmarts.com/podcastWatch on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@walkingwellpodcastwithgilo784

This one is for the down and outs, the bedraggled, and the ones who are showing up technically but not really. Dry, discouraging places can really take it out of us, but that's not their purpose. They are an opportunity to lay down what no longer fits to step into who we were meant to be. But for that chrysalis of a process to begin we have to agree to participate fully in the season, showing up with our hearts in our hands. Faith. Belief. Naked, shaking trust that God is who He says He is and will still do exactly what He said is how we show up. It's how we participate. Time

Tip #1- Give it time. When seasons change on us it can take time to get our bearings, settle in, and be able to hear what exactly God is saying. Often times we fight the discomfort of the new and unfamiliar because we just want the discomfort to go away. But I would contend that in easing into this new thing God is doing and allowing what is to unfold over time, you will begin to see that God is in fact up to something. Wilderness seasons require that you surrender yourself to the timing of the season- you can't rush through it or past it. You must simply journey through. But take heart! The time spent allows God to do his best work- seeding things in and helping other things to fall off. This is important work that can only happen in time.Connect with the Walking Well PodcastInstagram- @WalkingWellPodcastFacebook- Walking Well Podcast with Gilon MartsWebsite- https://www.gilonmarts.com/podcastWatch on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@walkingwellpodcastwithgilo784

Welcome to season 7 of the Walking Well Podcast! First things first- THANK YOU FOR WAITING! Season 7 is my little field guide to surviving and thriving in Wilderness places. Consider this episode a prequel because before we get into the how-to's we need to first establish a mutual understanding.  And that is this: Whenever you find yourself in a place of uncertainty, disappointment, not knowing, not able to hear/feel/discern God, etc. a posture of Hope is a non-negotiable.Hope is the positive expectation of good. If we're going to make it to the other side of places that feel dry, hard, and foreign, we must first believe the wilderness is in fact not forever, despite how everlasting it may feel. Hope is how we get through. Believing that the sun will rise again and bring goodness with it is the attitude, the discipline, we must commit to. I'm going to be honest, the last thing you want to do is the thing you need to do. When life is throwing a curveball or ten, we tend to quietly (or not so quietly) tap out if nowhere else but on the inside. We disengage from many of the helpful things because they can just feel too much. But in this way we stop showing up for ourselves in a way that would otherwise get us to the other side of a pretty uncomfortable season. This episode is the equivalent of showing up on your first back in the gym after a hiatus. We're going to do the things. And I am here to push you on. #GilonTheeTrainerThe ground level stuff is the stuff. Doing the things you already know you ought (cuz I don't believe in shoulding ourselves) to do, those foundational things, are the baby steps to moving through and creating momentum in funky spaces. And no shade to my nomads but sometimes the wandering life in wilderness spaces is really just our response to being overwhelmed. We stop making decisions because we can feel so tossed by life that it seems better for all involved if we stop trying.BUT! That's quitting- if no where else but in our minds. Y'all. This episode is spiritual meat so prepare to be stretched to accommodate the truth that Keneth Saulsberry is bringing to the podcast this week. We are discussing walking in Oneness with God. In Ephesian 5, Paul writes of a great mystery where the two shall become one and while he uses marriage as an illustration, he is actually speaking of Christ and His Bride, the Church (that's us y'all). So what is this Oneness and how do we begin to practically walk in it? Keneth Saulsberry gets into knowing our identity as sons and daughters, defeating sin consciousness, and balancing our time to invest in our Spirits so we might build true intimacy with God. Listen. Waiting on God is no joke. I often think of it like holding a wall-sit- it is good for your muscles but it's gonna burn after a while. Sometimes in the waiting that burn comes in the form of exhaustion, frustration, and/or hopelessness. That's ok- address the burn. On the episode, we discuss the proper way to recover from weary waiting, the essential truths about God's heart toward us in times of waiting, and how to stay rested and trusting while God is working on the next layer of goodness He has in store. Here's the thing- you can't trust someone you don't know and you sure aren't going to be willing to follow them into the unknown without a backlog of trust. Not knowing God- like knowing Him knowing Him, makes trusting His commands, instructions, and intentions beyond hard. Knowing God's heart and Who He says He is allows for trust to fill the spaces that we don't have answers for. This episode we talk about the anatomy of knowing God and how we can begin compiling a catalog of life experiences that proves to ourselves and others that God is 100% of the time EXACTLY Who He says He is. There's even a little list of scriptures laying out some examples of how God self-identifies. Walking with God, doing life with Him is the crux of the Christian life but it can feel overwhelming to know where to start (or even if you're doing it right). It's ok- walking with God is as much of an experiment as it is an adventure. But never fear, God is a master leader and wants to be invited into the stuff of your life. On this episode we look at the example of those who walked with God and learn how to be aware enough to keep step with the Living God in our every day lives.

The Love of God. It is the best and most central aspect of our faith and yet living the reality of being dearly loved by God is often an elusive but longed after whim. We often see God as disappointed in us, obligated to but not in love with us, and distant. But He is far from that! God is crazy about His kids and in this episode we get into the proof. The way God loves is so extravagant and other worldly that we would have to stack lifetimes in eternity to scratch the depth of His feelings toward us. One of the hardest things in life is to build something in the midst of a chaotic situation. The devil is an opportunist so whether life is just being life or there is an all out battle raging in your life, his constant objective is to divide and conquer. Being a flabby Christian, who has let some core disciplines slip, is the best way to get caught slipping when trials show up. But be encouraged! In this episode, we review how to quickly recover our stance in who God is and who we are in Him by loading up our spirits with Word, pursuing His presence, and keeping our hearts ripe to receive.

So is it just me or is it super tempting to provide commentary on how other people should be doing things? I'm talking about being critical. The more I walk through this life with Jesus the more He keeps pointing stuff out to me like how to love and use my words to build up not tear down and stuff like that. To be frank, it's easier to do what feels good/easiest with my words which is usually not the Jesus thing. On this episode, we get into what makes being critical so hard not to do and how to allow the Lord to address that part of us (the icky part) to love and protect and cover our sister like our Savior does for us.
