After going through this, Autumn had been traumatized and turned her life around and has been helping others, hearing their stories and to make sense of what they didn't understand.     We discussed the targeting of Judge Mary Elizabeth Bullock in detail. Autumn and Judge Mary Elizabeth Bullock became friends in November. Talking to Mary every day,  months had gone by, but one day, Autumn didn't hear from Judge Mary Elizabeth. This concerned Autumn. An independent victim advocate says there's a mismatch between the support victims and offenders get from the justice system. Taxpayers have forked out $900,000 in legal aid for rapists Danny and Roberto Jaz. The pair were convicted for 69 offences between them including rape and sexual violation, they were sentenced to 17 and 16 and half years in jail respectively. Ruth Money says the money victims are given to turn up in court isn't enough. "It's a ridiculous amount of money that doesn't cover your childcare, it doesn't cover your lost income, it doesn't cover the stress that you are put under." Victim advocates and court lawyers say the country's increasingly dilapidated court buildings are not fit for purpose and are in some cases, causing harm. Newly released documents paint a grim picture, with half the country's court buildings failing, some are not safe, many are leaking, and the cost of repairs has blown out past a billion dollars. In these papers, released to RNZ, the Justice Ministry says more than half its assets are failing, with leaks, earthquake and services problems. It puts that down to chronic underspending. In an internal document, it admits to spending just a fraction of what it should have been to keep the buildings up to scratch. Tauranga's court building is so bad it has had to send all High Court sittings to Rotorua. Ruth Money is an independent volunteer Victim Advocate, working daily in the courts assisting victims of serious crime. Kathryn also speaks with Rotorua criminal barrister, Andy Hill.

Jo Bader, who manages the sexual violence team at Aviva, formerly the Christchurch Women's Refuge, says it also would also be a mistake to see the case as entirely one-off. Way too many people (especially women) are addicted to being busy.  The thing is, this is how most of us were brought up. Do more, work harder, be more. Keep going no matter what. If you're busy “doing,” you'll be fine. Go to the gym, do side projects, and meet friends for happy hour. Keep stepping up, achieving, and doing ALL the things (plus more). And whatever you do … DON'T STOP!  Remember that time you booked a “relaxing” vacation? The kind of vacation where you had nothing to do but lounge on the beach and relax. But 2 days in, the edgy uneasiness crept in. And by day 3 you were climbing the walls. Thank god for the piña coladas or you never would've survived! You learned your lesson. From that point on, even your vacations were jam-packed with things to do. Then, in 2020 the pandemic hit, and everything shut down. If you were lucky, you still had work.  But everything else you used to do with your time was off the table. And you were forced to sit in the edgy uneasiness that comes with having nothing to do.  Nobody knew what would come next. The rules and roadmap to what you're “supposed to do” were gone. And each person had a choice. You could wallow in the uneasiness, drink more, slide into depression, and let the anxiety overtake you. Or you could “let go” of the old way, reimagine a new better-for-you way, and take the steps to make it a reality. With or without a pandemic, this is how you create empowering, perfect-for-you careers and lives.  And as a Career Empowerment Coach, it's why I love talking to people like Dora Fang. She created a whole new way of life for herself, living outside the boundaries of what we're “supposed to do.” She went from building strategic partnerships, creating new markets, and catalyzing growth at big companies to traveling full-time in a Winnebago Navion motorhome with her black lab, Tessa.   Connect to Genea: Website: https://geneabarnes-elevate.com/  Book a call with Genea: https://bookacallwithgenea.com/  Free Career Guide: https://geneabarnes-elevate.com/career-guide-b/   Connect to Dora: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dora.the.vagabond/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dorafang/    Dora bio:   Dora Fang has 20+ years of experience in building strategic partnerships, creating new markets, and catalyzing growth at companies such as eBay and Harley-Davidson. She started an outdoor adventure business in her 20s, before going to graduate school. Starting in 2020, she downshifted, fatFIRE'd, and is focused on enjoying adventure/nature and experiencing/learning new things.  Dora's focus on helping women achieve self-sufficiency and self-confidence began freshman year in college while volunteering at the local battered women's shelter. Recently in San Francisco, she's helped with shelter operations and events for the Asian Women's Shelter, along with grocery delivery for the local food bank.  She was also on the Asian Women's Shelter 25th Anniversary Steering Committee and a shelter volunteer/advocate. While living in Park City, Utah, she served on the Board of Peace House and as liaison to the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition. She also volunteered as a Victim Advocate for the Park City Police and Summit County Sheriff. She is also a leader within Burning Man crews in California and Utah, having served as a board member of Airpusher Collective and its inimitable airship and treasurer/petrol lead for Cosmiquarium Village. Dora earned her undergraduate degree at Duke University in Public Policy and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Dr. Lisa Smith is a professor, hypnotherapist, author, and advocate who has helped many people for the past 20+ years overcome trauma from PTSD, abuse (physical, sexual & emotional) & other mental health issues. Her mission is to raise awareness and convince people and parents that young children and teens must learn about grooming and targeting so that, as a community, we can reduce the number of sexual assaults against our youth. Right2consent.com is where she encourages everyone affected by sexual assault or rape to report the sex crime to their local law enforcement agency using the questionnaire available on the site. Because only 5 out of 1000 sex predators will be prosecuted for their sexual violence.
