Hershall, you need not that I should write unto thee concerning the former portion of the title, because thou wast there. (previous string of words was KJV sounding) I am referring to your presence at the Minister's Conference that I attended last week and which you are a part of because your father implored (big word for beg) you to be. I have attended this particular conference on occasion but none was so much embarrassing for me as this year. I gave our audience the 'behind the scenes' of what went on with my great embarrassment. I also told of the many new listener encounters I had as well as one of your "holler Loretta" requests. We also had Gen Z Boy (my son, Brooks) on today for the full episode to give great insight and he even gave us the word of the week. We had a special appearance in studio 18 with Dink Burbank, our fearless news director and we even had an appearance from Sis. Connie Smith of the Church Basement Bargains and she told of their trip to the Minister's Conference. We ended with the train derailing completely at the possibility of what an Earwig is.... Enjoy! We welcome Connie Smith, president of the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses & Health Professionals and Jamie Lucas, executive director, to discuss Ascension's profit-maximizing closure of St. Francis Hospital's Labor and Delivery unit, creating a new healthcare desert for women and their families on Milwaukee's south side. We discuss the economic forces driving Ascension's decision, and the leverage public mobilization and protest, and elected officials willing to speak out, can create to back them down. We also evaluated the effectiveness of Democrats in the recent Congressional “Lame Duck” session; Was it irresponsible to not deal with the debt limit through reconciliation and other filibuster proof progressive priorities or did Democratic leaders do the best that was possible with a bad hand? We talk about a new article Robert wrote for Barn Raiser debriefing Wisconsin's 2022 election. Robert urges us to spend less time on punditry and more on deeper conversations with voters. We look ahead to the huge opportunity the 2023 Supreme Court Election for us to talk to more voters and win.
As of the end of this week, labor and delivery services will no longer be offered at Ascension St. Francis on Milwaukee's south side. Connie Smith is the President of the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, and Tracey Schwerdtfeger is the Registered Nurses Bargaining President at St. Francis Hospital. They join Wisconsin's Afternoon News to discuss the impact this will have on the city's south side pregnant residents, where the positions are going to, and more.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

November 12, 1945. Bennington County, Vermont. While on a hunting trip on Glastenbury Mountain, 74-year old Middie Rivers splits off from his son-in-law, but he is never heard from again and an extensive search effort fails to find him. Over the next five years, four other individuals – 18-year old Paula Jean Welden, 68-year old James Tedford, eight-year old Paul Jepson and 53-year old Frieda Langer – all vanish within the same general area and most of the victims are never found. This leads to speculation that the cases might be connected or that something supernatural is involved in their disappearances, so the area becomes known as “The Bennington Triangle”. On this month's final Halloween-themed episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we will be exploring five cases which all supposedly took place within a geographical area which is believed to be cursed. “Miss Country Soul” Jeannie Seely was one of the premier female singers of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Known for her big heart, emotion-packed voice, and salty wisecracks on stage – “Of course I want you for your body. I've got a mind of my own;” “An ex-husband is one mistake you don't have to live with;” and others – she blazed a nonconformist trail in Nashville, sporting a miniskirt her first time onstage at the Grand Ole Opry and a sassy attitude wherever she went. The youngest of four children, petite, blonde Seely was never a stranger to work – or to country music. Her father worked at a local steel mill and on the family's farm, but on weekends played the banjo and called local square dances, and her mother sang with her every Saturday morning while the two baked bread. Soon, Jeannie was singing regularly on local radio station WMGW and, by age 16, on Erie television station WICU. At 21, Seely and three girlfriends moved to Los Angeles, where she worked as a deejay on Armed Forces Radio Network, wrote songs for Four Star Music (Dottie West and Connie Smith performed some of her early tunes), sang on country television show “Hollywood Jamboree,” and recorded for Challenge Records. Passing through town, songwriter Hank Cochran encouraged her to bring her talents to Nashville. She turned up unexpectedly in 1965 (with $50 and a Ford Falcon to her name) and announced to Cochran, “Well, I'm here! Cochran. Within three weeks it was on the country charts, peaking at No. 2. Her performance of the song earned Seely the 1966 GRAMMY award and led to a string of hits through the late 1970s. Today she is among the small group of artists who has had a No. 1 hit as a soloist, a duet partner, and a songwriter, and “Don't Touch Me” is considered a country standard.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Connie Smith was ten years old when she went to summer camp, and when she begged her mother to let her stay, it seemed like she was having a great time. Unfortunately, that would change almost entirely overnight. Following an altercation with a few of her fellow campers, Connie made the decision to leave camp and hitchhike home. Witnesses reported her whereabouts for a while—but then she disappeared, never to be seen again.

Child violinist prodigy, exceptional entertainer, studied musical scholar, or creative camper songwriter…call her what you will, Micah Bonn is all that and more. Hailing from Claxton, Georgia, Miss Bonn has been influenced by everyone from Bach and Charlie Daniels to Jerry Lee Lewis and Gram Parsons. Despite her tender age of 21, she is the 2017 winner of the John Hartford Memorial Songwriting Contest, has shared the stage with the Kentucky Headhunters, opened for Connie Smith, and appeared on a slew of TV and radio shows around the south…and that's only a few of the things she's accomplished. This episode's musical section features Micah doing “Pink Flamingos”, an autobiographical original cowrite with cohost Sean Clark, and a performance of “Little Love”, cowritten with Sean and Uncle Dave Griffin, both numbers showcasing her excellent vocals and picking style. The talented multi-instrumentalist takes us home with a fine Guy Clark/Shawn Camp song, “Sis Draper”, a period-sounding piece that'll have you pickin' the chicken peckin's from between your toes. https://www.patreon.com/somethinginthewater https://somethinginthewater.captivate.fm somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ https://www.instagram.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ https://www.facebook.com/cautionlightmedia/
Thank you Jim Dudukovich! In this episode we talk about cool bands and stories, like how our guest sat in on drums with the Circle Jerks in New York because Chuck Biscuits, the drummer, wasn't able to play and our guest knew all their songs.Jack Rabid is the publisher and creative genius behind "The Big Takeover," a bi-annual music magazine published out of New York City, going on 42 years now. It reads like a music encyclopedia or mix tape guidebook, including 60-80 pages of album reviews written by Jack himself. Jack's a drummer and vocalist and has played in a number of bands. And he's a veteran of the “punk era,” emanating from New York City. But mostly, he's a music lover. This interview kicks right in, mid conversation, with us talking about Jack's softball game that he just got home from. I ended up just hitting record, 86'ing the formalities of a “hello,” and rolling tape. No one talks about music like Jack Rabid. Here we go…======================== BAND REFERENCES IN THIS EPISODE! ======================== Talking Heads, XTC, Ramones, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Xavier Cugat, Death Cab for Cutie, Deep Sea Diver, Wire, Springhouse (Jack's band), Leaving Trains (Jack played with them), Chills, Nirvana, Belly, Velocity Girl, Throwing Muses, REM, Even Worse (Jack's Band), Last Burning Embers (Jack's Band), Beatles, Circle Jerks, Legal Weapon, Saccharin Trust, Naked Ray Gun, Big Black, The Effigies, Blood Sport, Fastbacks, Hüsker Dü, The Screamers, The Dells, Engelbert Humperdinck, Glen Campbell, Dionne Warwick, Jimi Hendrix, Blondie, Television, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Velvet Underground, Mothers of Invention, MC5, The Cars, The Police, Bad Brains, Henry Rollins, Ian MacKaye, James Brown, The Who, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Killers, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, The Undertones, X, The Mutants, The Zeros, DOA, The Subhumans, The Dead Kennedys, The Stimulators, Mad, Iggy Pop, the Cramps, Link Wray, Professor Longhair, The Ruts, Sham 69, The Damned, Dead Boys, Buzzcocks, Justin Sullivan, New Model Army, The Neats, Wipers, Catherine Wheel, Radiohead, Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Rogers, Gene Autry, Max Romeo, Stooges, Heartbreakers, New York Dolls, The Adverts, The Everly Brothers, Love, Carl Perkins, Oscar Peterson, Hank Williams, Stephen Foster, Blasters, The Undertones, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Howlin' Wolf, Joy Formidable, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheetah Chrome, John Lydon, Captain Beefheart, Ruts DC, The Gas, Joe Pernice, Bevis Frond, The Who, The Byrds, Bo Diddley, Ike and Tina Turner, Lesley Gore, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Billy Bragg, Colin Hay, Connie Smith, and George Jones.========================THE BIG TAKEOVER- Website: https://bigtakeover.com/- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigTakeover/ - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bigtakeovermag/?hl=en- Radio Show: https://bigtakeover.com/radio/ ========================BRENTON HUND PODCAST - Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/brentonhundpodcast- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brentonhundpodcast/- YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/========================SOCIAL MEDIA BY: https://www.socialsweetheart.coLOGO DESIGN BY: https://taylorhembree1993.wixsite.com/ohokmedia

July 16, 1952. Salisbury, Connecticut. While spending the summer at Camp Sloane, ten-year old Connie Smith skips breakfast and leaves the campground. Numerous witnesses see Connie walking down the road and attempting to hitchhike, but before she reaches the nearest town, she vanishes without a trace. Since Connie's grandfather is the former Governor of Wyoming, there is a massive search effort and her case receives extensive publicity. Over the years, there are a number of unusual leads, including an anonymous letter stating that Connie might be an unidentified murder victim named “Little Miss X”, whose skeletal remains were found in Arizona in 1958. Did Connie Smith become an unidentified Jane Doe? If not, what actually happened to her? And what compelled her to walk away from Camp Sloane to begin with? We explore one of America's most baffling unsolved missing children's cases on this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”. This episode of “The Trail Went Cold” is brought to you by “Murder Book”, a new true crime podcast hosted by bestselling author Michael Connelly, available on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen.
