This week, Brock and Will sit down with Luck, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter and recording artist from Virginia/Connecticut. She is also a fashion designer with her own Jewelry line called FOP. Luck's music is a unique blend of R&B, Hip Hop, Rock and Soul. In this episode, the boys dive deep into the early life of Luck and what inspired her to become a recording artist. Luck reflects on her childhood, when she travel with her family to New York City to perform at various open mics. It was then that the spark which would lead to her music career was ignited. She shares how the various influences in her life would shape the unique sound that fans hear today. Luck provides invaluable insight for any aspiring artist. "Focus on Identity," she claims as her number one piece of advice for new artists trying to break in the industry. Brock and Luck go deep in talking about vulnerability, and how embracing those parts of yourself can make you into a much better artist. Later, Luck discusses her jewelry line, FOP (For Our People For Other People), which was born out of her own unique style. She says that all of the jewelry that was available in stores didn't resonate with her, so she decided to make her own. This is a great episode for any up and coming music artists, anyone interested in the music industry, music fans and any artist who wants to break the norms of society. It's sometimes hard to put long-range goals into perspective when we're considering the many means of getting to them: touring, social media, list building, licensing, music industry trends, formats of releasing music, etc. but those are all tactics, not sustainable strategies that are scalable. Too often, we glamorize the hustle without thinking about what matters even more: working with purpose. Today, we'll talk about whether or not it actually is a long way to the top (if you want to rock n' roll) and a better way of getting there.
Have you ever thought about what business you're in? The "music business" is too broad of a term and doesn't really define your activities or what can actually sustain your career. When you understand what business you're actually in, you can start being more strategic about your approach and see better returns.
