Gosia Betancourt didn't stumble into great parenting — she designed it. Two ideas from this conversation worth keeping. Variety is a method, not a detour. Most parents wait for their kids to find their passion. Gosia chose something different — she gave her boys width before depth. Not because she didn't care about excellence, but because she understood that breadth is how you build a richer, more capable person. Early specialization feels like a shortcut. It's often a ceiling. Finding the way is the lesson. Gosia's life is proof that conditions are never perfect — and that waiting for them is the real risk. She didn't have the language, the money, or the connections. She moved anyway. And somewhere along the way, that became the gift she passed on to her kids. Not a clear path, but the confidence to find one. Two things to take into this week:   Expose them intentionally. Variety is development, not distraction.  Let them face some obstacles. Not all of them need to be removed. That's Parent Shift. The Youth Sports Parenting Tribe

Gosia Betancourt is a dedicated mom raising two boys, Joshua and Jake, who are actively involved in competitive sports. She strongly believes in multisport exploration, encouraging her children to try many different sports before specializing so they can discover their true passions. To better support her sons' demanding training schedules while maintaining strong academics, Gosia enrolled them in Crimson Global Academy (CGA). The flexible online learning model has allowed her family to reduce stress, create better schedules around training, and give her sons time to train, study, recover, and still enjoy being kids. In this episode, Gosia shares her personal experience raising two competitive sons and how Crimson Global Academy has supported their education as athletes. How to Write Voice-Driven Fiction, with Aga Maksimowska

Send us a text! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show.In this episode of The Resilient Writers Radio Show, I'm joined by Aga Maksimowska, author of Becalming and Giant, for a thoughtful conversation about voice, literary fiction, and what it means to return to a character after more than a decade. Aga's latest novel, Becalming, is anything but calm. It's propulsive, emotionally layered, and deeply attentive to the messy, often contradictory experience of early adulthood—something Aga knew from the beginning she wanted to capture on the page.We begin by talking about Gosia, the protagonist of Becalming, who readers may recognize from Aga's earlier novel Giant. Though Aga never intended to write a sequel, Gosia returned—older, more complicated, and shaped by the difficult work of becoming an adult while still carrying the imprint of childhood. Aga shares what it was like to revisit a character she already knew and discover how much more there was to uncover once Gosia was placed in new relationships, new responsibilities, and the complicated emotional terrain of adulthood.Aga also talks about her deep love of first-person narrative and voice-driven fiction. We explore why she's drawn to intimate, character-rich storytelling and how her background in journalism shaped her curiosity about people and the stories they carry. She reflects on the craft choices behind Becalming—particularly her desire to write about frustration, disappointment, and emotional upheaval without creating an angry narrator. Instead, she leans into humor, tenderness, and the kind of emotional complexity that feels deeply human without tipping into sentimentality. One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation centers on language, migration, and identity. Aga shares how writing across cultures allows her to explore the ways personality shifts through language, and how Gosia is, in many ways, a different person in Polish than she is in English. ✨ It's a rich conversation about inheritance, history, and how identity is shaped not only by where we come from, but by the language we move through. We also talk about titles, process, and Aga's affection for difficult books—the kind that ask readers to do a little work, to make leaps, and to trust what's unfolding on the page. She shares why Becalming became the right title, how she wrote much of the book at 5 a.m. and in Toronto libraries, and why she believes some books are meant to stay in the drawer. It's a generous, thoughtful conversation about writing with depth, trusting your instincts, and allowing the work to become what it wants to be.

Let's take a deeper dive into the 20th arrondissement of Paris. This is an updated re-release of the time we visited the 20th arrondissement as part of our Paris Countdown season.  You'll hear dinnertime singalongs, a cemetery visit, and more about the best pizza in Europe. There is even an interview with a Polish singer called Gosia who had just finished leading an Edith Piaf show at a local restaurant. (She sings on the episode, too, her fave Edith song, which was J'm'en fous pas mal). You can find everything we mention on this post:  This episode brought to you by The Earful Tower Tours. Come join us in the Marais, Montmartre, or the Latin Quarter. Our Walking Tours are exceptionally highly rated online and are the best way to experience this podcast in real life. The Earful Tower exists thanks to support from its members. For just $10 a month you can unlock almost endless extras including bonus podcast episodes, live video replays, special event invites, and our annually updated PDF guide to Paris.  Membership takes only a minute to set up on Patreon, or Substack. Thank you for keeping this channel independent.  For more from the Earful Tower, here are some handy links: Website  Weekly newsletter  Walking Tours If you're in a rush, here is a narrative distillation of the episode (meaning, essentially, that you're reading about 10 percent of what happens).  Oliver: Let me take you back to December 19th, 1915, in Paris, where a baby girl named Edith Piaf was born on the cold streets of Belleville. She became the soul of Paris and, more specifically, the soul of the district we are sharing with you today in the far east of the city. To get there, we are taking a car, and I'm joined by my wife and confidant, Lina,. Lina: Yes, I am ready. Welcome to a new season. Oliver: I'm very excited. I've described my role this season as the Robin to your Batman. Lina: And usually, I am the Batman, of course. Oliver: We want to give everyone a glimpse into this interesting neighborhood where Edith Piaf served as the muse,. Upon arrival in Belleville, we stayed at the Babel Belleville hotel. It was immediately clear that this is a different version of Paris than the one people expect with berets and the Eiffel Tower. Lina: Especially since we arrived on market day. Oliver: The market was busy, bustling, and colorful, with more people than I've ever seen in a Paris market. We were in full tourist mode, talking to street sellers and eating what seemed like an Algerian Korean crepe,. The area is very diverse and immersive,. We also noticed that as time passed, there were far fewer tourists than in areas like the Marais. Lina: The shops aren't catered to tourists either; many were residential or even closed down,. It's a real, unpolished neighborhood. Oliver: Our plan was to explore for the day and then attend a show at Le Vieux Belleville. The 20th is a large district, so we did a lot of walking. We set our sights on Peppe's Pizza, which is ranked the best pizza in Europe. On the way, we passed the Père Lachaise Cemetery, which is essentially the only major tourist attraction in the district. Lina: I used to live in the 20th and had visited the cemetery a few times years ago, but it is just so big. Oliver: No one should miss it because entering those gates feels like entering a different world. However, it is not wheelchair or push-chair friendly due to the huge cobblestones,. While the most famous grave is often cited as Jim Morrison, I went looking for the ultimate hit: Edith Piaf,. Her grave is somewhat unassuming, much like her famous little black dress. After the cemetery, we finally had that pizza, which lived up to the hype with its unique toppings like cheese and marmalade,. Lina: It was delicious. Oliver: Next, we looked for La Campagne à Paris, the "countryside of Paris". It's a remote area with cottage-style houses built on top of old quarries, which is why the buildings are so low,. Our cab driver even gossiped that the previous president, François Hollande, lives up there. Lina: It was lovely, though since it's winter, there were more sticks than greenery. It's a great spot for a 15-minute walk and an Instagram photo. Oliver: That evening, we went to Le Vieux Belleville. We were worried it might be cheesy or touristy, but we ended up staying for three hours,. I managed to warm up the owner by telling him he looked like George Clooney,. Every Tuesday is Edith Piaf night, featuring an accordionist and a wonderful Polish singer named Gosia,. Lina: The vibe felt like crashing a French family's dinner party,. Oliver: We were the only foreigners there, but everyone was dancing and singing together. It was an utterly surprising amount of fun. Afterward, I stepped outside to interview the singer, Gosia,. Oliver: Gosia, that was a wonderful performance. How did a Polish woman end up singing Edith Piaf in Belleville,? Gosia: I started learning French by singing her songs. I adore the "gut" emotion in her singing; she comes from the streets. Piaf is an icon, but not many people really listen to her music anymore. Oliver: What makes a good crowd for you? Gosia: A crowd that realizes they actually can sing along. I know the evening worked if people are exchanging phone numbers and talking to their neighbors by the end. It's more of a ritual than a concert. Oliver: What is your favorite Piaf song? Gosia: My favorite is "J'm'en fous pas mal". Oliver: You also mentioned this is the best district in Paris. Gosia: It is getting gentrified, but it's a lovely, mixed, working-class area where Piaf was born. It has the real life of the neighborhood and an original Parisian feel,. We need to enjoy it while it lasts. Oliver: Le Vieux Belleville really captured the vibe of the neighborhood. My only complaint was that the lighting was a bit too bright,. Afterward, we walked down to Rue de Belleville and visited a bar called Aux Folies where Piaf used to perform,. Lina: That bar has a great "old Paris but young vibe" with neon lights. It's very picturesque, but don't expect fancy cocktails—it's all about cheap drinks and fun. Oliver: We stayed at the Babel Belleville, which has an international, "multi-culti" vibe that represents the 20th well,. The next day, we visited a brand-new cafe called The Dancing Goat, run by a young British guy,. Lina: The cafe was beautiful and fresh. Regarding the street art, it was cool but perhaps not as much as I had hoped for. Oliver: I think the 13th arrondissement might be better for street art, though Rue Dénoyez had some huge murals,. Finally, we decided to rank the district based on five categories: Strollability, Affordability, Sharability, Touristability, and Accessibility,. The Scores: Strollability: Oliver (4), Lina (3) — It's too big and has too many hills. Affordability: Oliver (10), Lina (10) — Probably the cheapest in Paris. Sharability: Oliver (5), Lina (4). Touristability: Oliver (3), Lina (5) — Lina liked the views and the bars,. Accessibility: Oliver (3), Lina (2) — It's quite far from the rest of Paris. Oliver: My total was 23, and Lina's was 26, giving the district a 49 out of 100,. Lina: It failed! Oliver: It's not a fail, it's just a very residential district. I probably wouldn't stay here on a first trip to Paris, but it's a great experience if you've been here before. Join us next week as we head to the canals of the 19th Arrondissement. Oliver and Lina: Bye-bye!

Ta rozmowa to zaproszenie do uważności, dialogu z własnym ciałem i refleksji nad tym, w jaki sposób żyjemy, myślimy, oddychamy i tworzymy rzeczywistość. Swaruu revealed how extraterrestrials from the Pleiadian star system along with members of the Galactic Federation of Worlds, were interacting with humanity to help free itself from negative extraterrestrials and their human minions. Gosia and Robert began publicly releasing the messages first in Spanish (2017) and then in English (2018) on their respective websites. They revealed how the Taygetans, who came from four inhabited planets in their star system, along with Galactic Federation members from all over the galaxy observed a Prime Directive that guided their activities and intervention in Earth affairs. Swaruu relayed the 10 principles comprising the Prime Directive in 2018, which is the first time these were publicly released in their entirety. Swaruu explained how there were important philosophical differences between extraterrestrials civilizations over how the Prime Directive should be implemented, which accounted for why the Taygetans were often critical of the Federation's lack of action in preventing human misery on Earth and acted independently. In 2020, Aneeka, another Taygetan girl, this time from the planet Temmer, took over from Swaruu and continued sending messages through the internet to Gosia and Robert. Aneeka was followed by other individuals from the planets Erra and Temmer. These included the females, Alenym of Temmer (ex-Queen of Taygeta), Athena Elizabeth of Temeer, Nai'shara of Erra, and Sophia Swaruu, along with Queen Mari, First of Taygeta. Two Taygetan males also transmitted messages, Dhor Kaal'el of Temmer and Raguel of Temmer. The Taygeta messages have been released in video format along transcripts and number well over 500 by 2025, and collectively comprise one of the largest bodies of work on extraterrestrial life and their intervention on Earth. In her first interview on Exopolitics Today, Gosia answers questions about how and why the Taygetans began to independently send messages to receptive humans in 2008, but only she and Robert chose to make these public. Gosia learned that she was a walk-in from Taygeta and had arrived on Earth in 2017 via an immersion chamber, which is a combination of a medbed and holographic entertainment unit used by Taygetans for immersive experiences. She explained that her Taygetan body remains in the immersion chamber and will wake up at the end of her Earth experience and will have aged only a fraction of the time she has spent on Earth.Gosia Duszak's websites are:• Cosmic Agency (English) - https://www.youtube.com/@CosmicAgency• Canal de Conocimiento Alternativo/Alternative Knowledge Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYjj30Cp0U9coWALouInCbg•  Aventuras Personales/Personal Adventures https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDyCcxwjrOgbvZV9Jjp6v-g• Mi Musica/My Music https://www.youtube.com/user/LaMalGosia

View the courses here: https://www.lightblue.clinic/challengesAbout Gosia: Gosia Bieniek is a Sports Performance Director and co-owner of a first cryotherapy centre called Light Blue Clinic based in Cambridge, UK. Her work focuses on female athletes, training according to menstrual cycle and screening for LEA (Low Energy Availability) and RED-S. She is a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Cambridge University Boat Club (men's side) and coaches a variety of individual clients including female master rowers. Gosia holds an MSc in Strength and Conditioning and BSc in Sport and Exercises Science plus various soft tissue and sports massage qualifications. She gained her clinical experience working at Spire Lea Hospital in Cambridge with BUPA as a health advisor. About Susie:Susie's story began back in 2012 at Oxford Brookes University, where she first learnt to row. Over the next 10 years, she went on to row with Sydney Rowing Club, Leander Club, and ultimately trained and raced with the British Rowing Team. Along the way, she had some incredible experiences, including winning a bronze medal at World Cup III and becoming a two-time Henley Royal Regatta winner. During the 2021–2022 season, Susie struggled with RED-s while training full time with the British Team (which ultimately contributed to her retirement from the sport in 2024). This challenging period opened her eyes to the importance of athlete welfare and health. Since retiring from rowing and becoming a mum, she has been dedicated to supporting the welfare needs of athletes. Susie works at Oxford Brookes University, where she provides care for student-athletes in distress. About the course:Female athletes are more prone to develop a complicated relationship with food due to the unrealistic expectations of social media, society or peer pressure. Therefore, it is essential to equip athletes with various tools that would help with early detection of undereating. It's also advisable to pay an extra attention to young athletes who are going through growth development and light weight rowers who must train with a significantly lower energy intake than open weight. Low energy availability (LEA) and relative energy deficiency in sports can impact both genders, however the sole purpose of this course is to focus on female physiology.LEA and RED-s courses for female rowers are a comprehensive guide to an early management and detection of disordered eating which can be detrimental for health. Both courses have been designed for parents, coaches, athletes or organisations who are serious about finding out more about preventative measurements or solutions to aid with an early detection of LEA or RED-S.The material covers all of the essential subjects linked with eating habits and training's energy demands. Every module contains a video, slide and a description, additionally at the bottom of the course users can find documents and other resources to download. There are two different courses to chose from one is for individuals and the second one for organisations like sports clubs or universities.

The Swaruu material began in 2017/2018 when two Spain-based UFO researchers, Robert and Gosia, began receiving messages from a young Taygetan female extraterrestrial called Swaruu who allegedly took up residence in an Andromedan mothership to relay electronic messages to Earth. The messages were received via the internet and contained original information on a range of topics, including the Galactic Federation (of Worlds). Swaruu was soon joined by other Taygetans who were associated with the Swaruu family. They shared that regressive extraterrestrial races had largely left our solar system and the Earth was being managed by the Galactic Federation. However, Swaruu, et al disagreed with the Galactic Federation leadership over how the Earth was being managed and when the population would be told the truth about extraterrestrial life, and allowed to join the greater galactic community. To read full article visit: https://exopolitics.org/galactic-federation-is-mentoring-humanity-not-to-manifest-nightmares-in-our-5d-galaxy/To join Patreon visit: https://www.patreon.com/c/MichaelSalla

Dan Winter has been closely following the explosive information released by an alleged group of extraterrestrials associated with the Swaruu royal family from Taygeta since its inception in Spain from 2017/2018. He has found the information released through the internet to Gosia and Robert to be accurate when compared with other sources he deems trustworthy.Winter believes that the leadership of the Galactic Federation of Worlds has been compromised by malevolent interstellar AI he refers to as “Etorthans” who are shapeshifters and appear to be the same Animus described in the Wingmakers material. Winter rightly points to the infiltration problems with AI experienced by secret space programs and extraterrestrials more generally. In a discussion with Dr. Michael Salla, the Swaruu information is contrasted with information from Elena Danaan and Dr. Andrea Martin who have differing views about the GFW leadership. Other controversial views presented by Swaruu such as Akhenaten and Nefertiti being negatively oriented is discussed from the perspective of the Law of One material. Also, the return of Enki/Ea is discussed and analyzed in terms of it being a positive development for humanity or not.Dan Winter has worked for over four decades on the frontiers of consciousness studies from the perspective of an electrical engineer. The Great Product Owner: The Trust-Building Product Owner Gosia illustrates the characteristics of an exemplary Product Owner. These individuals build trust with their teams, challenge ideas respectfully, and maintain transparency about their concerns. Great POs actively seek feedback, clearly communicate the customer's voice, and leverage tools like Jobs To Be Done to align features with the company's strategy. Inviting customers to share their experiences with the team ensures that development stays user-focused and relevant. The Bad Product Owner: The Anti-Pattern of Control In The PO Role In contrast, Gosia describes a Product Owner who undermined team trust by changing estimation figures without the team's knowledge. During a meeting focused on affinity estimation for an upcoming release, the PO erased the team's work and provided altered estimates to the business. This action broke trust and disenfranchised the team, showcasing an anti-pattern where the PO assumes control rather than fostering team ownership. Such behavior can lead to decreased morale and a lack of transparency. Self-reflection Question: How do you ensure your actions as a Product Owner build trust and foster collaboration within your team? [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

Success for Gosia as a Scrum Master is defined by her team's self-sufficiency. True success is evident when the team operates smoothly without her constant presence, handles conflicts independently, and confidently runs their own meetings. When team members shift from bringing complaints to proposing solutions and only seek occasional feedback, it indicates a mature, autonomous group. We also discuss what behaviors to look out for as a Scrum Master, to ensure that the team is proceeding towards self-sufficiency. Self-reflection Question: How do you measure the level of autonomy within your team and encourage them to become more self-reliant? Featured Retrospective Format for the Week: Lean Coffee Gosia recommends Lean Coffee as a favorite retrospective format due to its simplicity and relaxed structure. This format's timeboxed, formulaic approach allows discussions to flow naturally without the pressure to cover every topic. It's particularly effective for fast-paced environments where teams need structured, yet laid-back, sessions to share their thoughts. [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

Gosia shares her experience leading a startup through significant change by introducing a goal framework and implementing OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). Initially resistant, the company transitioned to quarterly reviews and goal-setting processes. Teams were tasked with defining their contributions, leading to greater collaboration and understanding of their roles. Regular retrospectives and actionable feedback refined the approach, while tools like Monte Carlo simulations and WIP limits helped maintain focus. This story emphasizes that driving change requires adaptation and continuous learning. Self-reflection Question: How do you ensure that goal-setting frameworks support your team's focus and growth? Gosia Smoleńska: Coaching Agile Teams Beyond The Resistance Threshold Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Gosia recounts a time when her team, acting as a vendor for a large pharmaceutical client, faced severe alignment issues. With three teams and one Product Owner, goals often diverged, and communication barriers arose. A key challenge emerged when the dev lead, fearing judgment over code quality, began personally reviewing code before client submission. This approach, initially manageable with five members, became overwhelming as the team grew. Despite efforts to coach the dev lead, the fear-driven behavior persisted, revealing the difficult balance of knowing when to push for change versus when to accept limits. Self-reflection Question: When coaching others, how do you recognize the point at which your influence may no longer be effective? Featured Book of the Week: The Culture Map by Erin Meyer Gosia highlights The Culture Map as an essential read for understanding and navigating cultural differences within diverse organizations. This book provides insights into contrasting practices, such as giving and receiving feedback or varying perspectives on punctuality. For teams working globally, it's a valuable resource for fostering effective communication and collaboration. [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

Efforts to foster camaraderie and resolve these issues, including team visits and workshops, fell short. It was only through informal social interactions that they discovered the deep-seated issues that divided them. This experience underscored the critical need for interpersonal connections and understanding cultural differences to build a cohesive team. The Witcher is going to Japan! Well, sort of. With a Witcher manga now available, a line of Japanese-influenced statues in stores and a new Witcher tabletop game inspired by feudal Japan shipping next year, Geralt's flirtation with the far east shows no sign of slowing. What's behind it? This week, we welcome Gosia, the passionate fan, translator and student of Japanology behind the Ronin of Rivia social media account to see if we can find out! Gosia discusses how her love of The Witcher and Japanese culture inspired her to study the intersection of the two, why Geralt seems to resonate with Japanese fans and whether Andrzej Sapkowski may have been influenced by samurai when he created him. Plus, she discusses the challenges of translating video games and fiction and sings the praises of the Witcher translation teams...before we ruin it all by talking about Hexer.
