It's a week where earning dominate with plenty of stocks on the IG list of all-sessions coverage. Some of the big US companies include Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG), Tesla (TSLA) Exxon Mobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX), Intel (INTC) and Ford Motor (F) to name just a few. Then in Europe Shell Oil (SHEL), Barclays (BARC), Lloyds Banking Gp (LLOY), NatWest (NWB), Unilever (ULVR), BNP Paribas (BNP) and Nestlé (NESN) as just some of those in Europe to watch. Economic data includes a raft of flash PMI from Japan, US, UK, eurozone, France, Germany etc. There's also a first look at Q1 GDP in the US, ahead of the US rate decision the following week, and finally the Bank of Japan rate decision. Big Tech companies—including Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG), and AMD (AMD)—are the latest to report their fourth quarter (Q4) earnings. And despite all three names posting relatively strong results, all three stocks are down. I dig into the numbers… and highlight which stock is a buy on the pullback—and which one will get crushed going forward. On tomorrow's episode of WSU Premium, Daniel and I will break down several more earnings reports, and reveal our latest Dollar Stock Club pick. Don't miss it—Subscribe to WSU Premium at WSUpremium.com. Bitcoin is once again above $42,000 after its brief pullback following the first Bitcoin ETF approvals a few weeks ago. I highlight why the pullback was expected… and the next major catalyst for the crypto space—which should send some projects surging over 10,000%. I'm holding a special FREE event next Thursday, February 8, at 7 p.m., where I'll break down why crypto represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for investors… and how to position yourself to create generational wealth. This is perhaps our last show1. Google, MSFT and AMD are leading the headlines today. They are all dropping after reporting earnings. Alphabet (GOOG) is the biggest loser falling by nearly 6.0%. This news is weighing on the NASDAQ which is trading lower by 1.17%. Like I said last week, these stocks are all priced for perfection after the recent run up. On Thursday, AAPL, AMZN and META are all scheduled to report after the closing bell. 2. Regional banks are coming under some selling pressure today as well. The Regional bank ETF (KRE) is trading lower by 3.85%. This comes after New York Community Bank (NYCB) earnings. That stock is trading lower by 36%. 3. Later today, the FOMC decision will be at 2:00 ET, followed by Fed Chair Powell's press conference at 2:30pm ET. The Fed is expected to keep rates unchanged. 4. Gold is having a good day trading higher by 1.0%. Everytime gold looks like it is going to rollover it catches a bid. This chart must be watched like a hawk right now. The breakout does not happen until you get a monthly chart close above $2100. Either way, the trend is still up and that is important. 5. Bitcoin is pulling back today after staging a 1-week bounce. If anyone bought bitcoin at the recent low I would put a top loss at break-even now and protect that trade. It is still possible to trade higher, but if a lower high is made the recent lows could be retested. Today's episode is sponsored by Masterworks. Today's episode starts with a look at the Hollywood strikes that have been dominating the headlines. I explain why a win for the actors could spell serious trouble for the industry. The Fed is meeting this afternoon (after I finish recording this). I break down why no one seems to care about the Fed's rate hikes… and why that's a big mistake. Next, I highlight two contradictory calls from a couple of Wall Street analysts. One was right about the direction of the market… but wrong on his bullish thesis. The other was right about several bearish headwinds… but wrong about stocks falling. I break down both viewpoints… and why now is a turning point for the market. We're in the heart of earnings season. I explain why Alphabet (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) are moving in opposite directions after their latest results… and share the one Big Tech name I like heading into earnings (hint: it's had an incredible run lately, but still trades at a modest valuation). Don't miss tomorrow's episode of WSU Premium. Daniel and I will discuss one of the few sectors where earnings and revenue are rising—and how to profit from it. After analyzing this latest round of employment data, it's clear to see that the labor market is substantially weakening. February job openings crashed. Layoffs are continuing to pile up. Jobless claims in the most economically sensitive states are on the rise – and usually, jobless claim spikes in these states precede nationwide claim spikes. At this point, the labor market is obviously deteriorating. However, it's not yet dying. And that offers a “sweet spot” – a narrow window for the Fed to guide the economy to a soft landing. Adding to our conviction is the fact that financial stress is also high right now. Treasury yields are plunging, indicating that bond investors are preparing for the financial markets to get tight. Credit and yield spreads are widening, and bank lending volume is collapsing. Plus, on Tuesday, JPMorgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon said that the banking crisis is not over yet – and that's from someone who endured the 2008 financial crisis, so we're inclined to heed this warning. Given these macro developments, the Fed has ample reason to smash the pause button on its rate-hike campaign. Indeed, the Reserve Bank of Australia just paused, as did the Bank of Canada. Whenever those central banks pause, the U.S. Federal Reserve does, too. And historically speaking, after a Fed pause, stocks take off like a rocket. So, what does Luke like right now ahead of that incoming mega rally? Hydrogen, EVs, and Big Tech.Top Industries to Invest In: Hydrogen StocksNow, the hydrogen market has struggled lately, putting a hurting on one of our favorite companies – Plug Power (PLUG). And that's because this market is developing much more slowly than most anticipated. Despite this, the space is still growing quickly, and electrolyzer shipments are expected to double or triple here in 2023. Nothing about the bull case has changed. The world is still moving to replace natural gas with hydrogen power. And legislation continues to develop, helping to accelerate this shift. Further, Big Oil is moving into the hydrogen space. There's tons of demand for this fuel in Europe. And by summer, production tax credits for green hydrogen will come into focus – the first of its kind here in the U.S. The long-term demand for hydrogen power is extremely robust, so hydrogen is a great play if you can afford to hold on for the long haul. Top Industries to Invest In: EV StocksLike hydrogen, electric vehicle (EV) stocks continue to struggle. While Tesla (TSLA), Rivian (RIVN), Nio (NIO), XPeng (XPEV), and others released positive updates, their stocks dropped in response. We think this weird price action is a result of reemerging recession fears. After all, the auto market is not recession-resilient. Who knows how EVs will sell if the economy slows and interest rates remain high – especially because electric vehicles are expensive. But for us, this short-term risk doesn't matter; we're long EVs. Rivian, Fisker (FSR), and Lucid (LCID) will sell every car they make. They've all got reservation backlogs, so demand is a non-issue. And each has a unique value proposition that could help them to become leaders in this industry. If you're in EVs for the long term, this seems like a fantastic buying opportunity. Top Industries to Invest In: Big Tech StocksAnd Big Tech as a safety-net trade has definitely continued. The Nasdaq is showing alpha every single day. And now, the Nasdaq-100 has officially entered a new bull market after rallying 20% off its December lows. Names like Apple (AAPL), Meta (META), Nvidia (NVDA), and Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) are leading these rallies. And these stocks are fairly recession-resilient – we'll still all use Google, scroll on Facebook and Instagram, and watch Netflix during a recession. Plus, they'll all benefit from lower Treasury yields. We think this dynamic will work for the foreseeable future.

Last week, we talked about how Big Tech stocks were the way to play the AI Revolution that's sweeping the globe. So, will Big Tech be the big winners in 2023, or are there other ways to gain in this new bull market?Well, AI is a powerful tool that will allow Big Tech to dominate even more than it already is. It's the ultimate productivity game-changer. And indeed, not only does Big Tech have the data, resources, and talent to build great AI – they have the platforms that stand to benefit most from that technology, too. Just look at Microsoft (MSFT). It's investing heavily in OpenAI and integrating ChatGPT into its suite of products and services. Imagine the boost in productivity that integration will allow. Writing a report and getting stuck with run-on sentences and a lack of clarity? What might've taken you an hour to revise will take AI just seconds – freeing up more precious time in your day. What about Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL)? Despite its Bard AI fumble, the company has access to the largest amount of consumer search interest data in the world, and that's vital to developing robust AI and machine-learning algorithms. Similarly, Amazon (AMZN) runs the largest e-commerce platform on Earth, meaning the company holds the keys to the greatest collection of retail data in the world. And Meta (META) controls an unfathomable amount of data from its social media empire. Thanks to the start of this transformative tech revolution – and, in part, the improving macro backdrop – Big Tech is due for a great 2023. Once investors realize the enormous potential for margin expansion with these firms, it's likely they'll soar like never before. We're confident that buying Big Tech on the dip is a fabulous way to play the emerging AI Revolution.
Results are in for Alphabet (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT). Daniel and I explain how a strong U.S. dollar is hurting these stocks… and why they don't deserve to trade at current levels. In fact, a fundamental shift is leading to the collapse of the big tech growth story. (Interestingly, though, crypto seems to be breaking away from tech stocks…) We recap why all the positive earnings results aren't as good as they look… and share two strategies to profit from this bear market rally. In this episode What's behind the strong start to earnings season [1:00] Why Alphabet's earnings were a disaster [6:30] A fundamental shift is killing the tech stock growth story [9:05] Why a strong U.S. dollar is a major headwind for big tech [18:45] Is Bitcoin breaking away from the tech sector? 1. Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOG) drop after earnings. Both mega-cap names are falling sharply this morning. MSFT & GOOG are both falling by 7% on the session. 2. Surprisingly enough, the major stock indexes are holding up very well today despite the decline in MSFT and GOOG. This should tell everyone that the market is bigger than any one stock. The Russell 2000 Index (IWM) is trading higher by 0.70%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is also higher by 0.50%. This tells me that the market participants are looking forward to the FOMC announcement next week. As you know, last week the Wall Street Journal reported that the central bank would look at slowing down interest rate increases after this next meeting. This coming meeting the Fed is expected to raise rates by 75 basis points.3. Gold is catching a decent pop today trading higher by 1.0%. Silver is also pretty strong today as well. Silver is still my favorite play right now. 4. Bitcoin is catching a bid today trading back above the psychological 20K level. There is a lot of talk that wealthy Chinese residents are putting money into crypto after president Xi's reelection. I thought crypto was banned in China, so I will have to look more into that story.
Labor Market Friday's job report will be a very important indicator for how the job market is holding up with inflation concerns and rising interest rates, but today we got the data for the JOLTs report. In May the labor market remained strong as there were still 11.25 million job openings. This far outweighed those counted as unemployed as it stood at 5.95 million people. This means there are still about 1.9 openings per available worker. The quits rate also declined but it still stood at 4.27 million for the month of May. While both data points have fallen from recent record highs, overall, I still believe the labor market remains strong. Due to the strong labor market and no signs of excessive leverage, I believe the recession being discussed will be mild. Employment The employment numbers did not disappoint today, and they provide further evidence for an economy that I believe will be ok. The establishment survey showed payrolls grew 372,000 in the month of June which blew past the estimate of 250,000. The previous 2 months were revised lower by a total of 74,000 jobs, but overall, I would still say it was a good gain. The establishment survey is now just 524,000 jobs lower than pre-pandemic levels and if you look at the private sector it is actually 140,000 payrolls higher than February 2020. The household survey showed unemployed persons now stood at 5.9 million, which is just slightly higher than February 2020 when it was 5.7 million. Two areas that remain troubling are the labor force participation rate and wage inflation. The labor force participation rate still stands at 62.2% which is below the February 2020 rate of 63.4%. Looking at average hourly earnings we saw an increase of 5.4% over the last 12 months, but that is still well below the 8%+ inflation rates we have been seeing. Growth Stocks vs. Value Stocks Numbers are in for the first six months of 2022 and for the first half of the year growth stocks fell 25% compared with value stocks falling 12%. That is a gap of 13% which is the widest in 20 years. I believe the difference in the next six months will be reduced but still expect value to outperform growth stocks. Car Manufacturers Normally going into a recession or a slowdown, American car makers and their stocks get hit pretty hard. So far that appears to be the case with falling stock prices, but if one looks deeper investors should be less concerned this time around. In past recessions car makers were stuck with large inventories of vehicles that they had to discount dramatically to move the inventory. This then caused them to take large losses. That is not the case this time as the demand may not even be met in a slowing environment due to extremely low inventories. Another interesting point is that generally 40% of sales come from buyers with incomes under $50,000 who are hurt the most in a slowdown in the economy. Today that number has fallen to just 25%. It appears that two car manufacturers in the US could be drastically underpriced. Pfizer Vaccine I am pro-business and believe in letting market forces work, but I'm very disappointed with Pfizer‘s handling of the Covid vaccination. I'm not talking about the effectiveness or non-effectiveness. I'm talking about how they just raised their price to the US government by 27%. I think it is a shame that they would take advantage of not just the US government but also taxpayers who are paying for this. I'm also disappointed that the administration did not fight this and tell Pfizer the 27% increase is not justified. And don't forget how they have increased vaccinations all the way down to six-month-old babies which I think is uncalled for based on the minimal risk that kids face from Covid. S&P 500 Even with the major selloff we have seen this year, I still have concerns about the S&P 500. The top 5 companies still make up close to 22% of the entire index. Those companies are Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL), and Tesla (TSLA). The major problem here is all these companies remain expensive as the average forward P/E for the group is over 30x. I also worry about the growth expectations for these companies. With Apple in particular I believe they are one bad iPhone cycle away from a major pullback in their stock. People like to ignore the fact the iPhone sales still make up over half of the company's revenue and if you add Mac sales to that those products account for about 60% of total sales. They have other areas of growth, but a decline in these product sales would outweigh the growth in other areas. I've questioned it before, but other than a nicer camera are the new iPhones really that much different? Could this be the year iPhone sales take a hit? Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said on a recent earnings call that he expected smartphone unit volume to decline by around 5% versus last year. Analysts were expecting growth around 5%. And yes, Apple is a customer of Micron. Be careful of these companies that still remain expensive, especially with many other great opportunities now available in the market. It is always interesting when companies choose to do something different with their stock, whether it is initiating a dividend, starting a repurchase program, or any number of other actions. Not the least interesting of which is the stock split. The stock split does nothing fundamentally, but in reality it has a real impact on stock liquidity and investor interest. More palatable share prices are why companies like Apple, Tesla, & Alphabet (Google) have enacted splits in the past few years. 1. Earnings are in full swing right now. Last night, Facebook (FB) reported earnings and announced a big $50 billion share buyback, but the stock is still trading down by 2.4%. Alphabet (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) report tonight after the close. Apple (AAPL) and Amazon.com (AMZN) are scheduled to report Thursday. Tesla (TSLA) becomes a trillion dollar company. It now carries more weight on the NASDAQ and the S&P 500. Fastest rise to a trillion dollar company in history. It's parabolic. 2. Gold and silver are coming under some pressure today. They have not been able to climb above the recent resistance zones. I'll be watching them closely into the end of the week. 3.Bitcoin is ticking lower today, but it is holding up after making new all time highs last week. I'd expect more backing and filling here over the next week. The pattern will be important to watch this week. Be careful at these levels. Nothing terrible for the chart.
1. Tech under pressure. This morning, the tech heavy NASDAQ Composite and NASDAQ-100 (QQQ) are under some selling pressure to start the trading week. Leading tech stocks like Alphabet (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Facebook (FB) Amazon.com (AMZN) and many others are trading down sharply. The catalyst for the decline is the pop in yields on the 10-year note. Anytime yields tick up it looks like tech falls. Remember, ultimately yields have a lot of upside potential aso tech should be avoided for long term trades. 2. Natural gas is on fire again today. It is testing the highs from last week. The fundamental picture is still very bullish going forward, but the chart is still extended on the larger time-frames. Either way, this is a very strong move today for the commodity. Natgas options are a potential black swan call. 3. Bitcoin is hanging in. Cryptos are very technical. BTC held 40k and that's a key number. 4. Gold/Silver gold had a great reversal today, $10 on the futures. Silver futures up as well. Gold minners up nearly 2 percent on the GDX and over 2 percent on GDXJ.
Here's what is happening in the markets today, Tuesday, September 28th:- Stocks Index Futures slide- Bond Yields are surging above 1.5% - the highest level since June- Tech shares plummet: Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX) and Alphabet (GOOG) all down more than 1% in premarket trading. Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD down 2%, and Tesla (TSLA) lost 1.6% in the premarket.- Budget showdown in Washington: Republicans blocked a bill that would have funded the government into December- Fed Talk Today: testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to the Senate Banking Committee- Thor Industries (THO) released earnings and jumped 3.6% in premarket. Thor said demand for RVs remains strong, with backlogs at a record high. - Aurora Cannabis (ACB) reported lower-than-expected quarterly revenue and dropped 2.2% in premarket trading.- Crude Oil is trading above $76 a barrel.- Natural gas prices soared to their highest level in more than seven-and-a-half yearsIf you enjoyed the "Stock Market Today" episode, make sure to subscribe to this podcast. 1. Money Rotation Today As yields on the 10-year note start to perk up towards the 1.5% level we see money leaving the tech stocks. Stocks like Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG), and many others are all selling off today. Big cap tech hates higher interest rates. The strength in the market today is in the small cap stocks. The Russell 2000 index (IWM) is up 1.3% today. Small cap stocks perform better in a higher rate environment. There is also strength in the Financial, energy and retail sectors today. The market has climbed the wall of worry and couldn't care less about the fact that transitory inflation is here to stay. There's no tapering going on and there's tons of money chugging around the system. 2 Bitcoin/Cryptos are holding up extremely well despite China's attacks. It's held the level so far for now. The more a level is tested, the weaker it becomes. And you could be seeing that and if it breaks $40k look out below. 3 Gold/Silver Gold started out strong and rolled over. Silver is having a good day. Futures are up a little over 1%. 4 Natgas pulled back to the 20 day moving average. Today it's breaking out to new highs.
Here's what is happening in the markets today, Wednesday, August 4th.- The major averages closed higher on Tuesday. - The S&P500 made new record higher- New Covid restrictions from JPMorgan (JPM), Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL)- Robinhood (HOOD) surges more than 24%, blows past $38 IPO price - Earnings from General Motors (GM), CVS Health (CVS), Kraft Heinz (KHC), Tupperware (TUP), Activision Blizzard (ATVI) , Amgen (AMGN), Lyft (LYFT), Match Group (MTCH), Caesars Entertainment (CZR) This wraps up today's stock market news.If you enjoyed the "Stock Market Today" video, make sure to subscribe to this podcast. 1. Amazon Selloff weighs on markets.Amazon (AMZN) is falling lower by 7.5% today after reporting earnings that failed to impress Wall Street. As you know, this is one of the mega-cap tech stocks and it carries a lot of weight in the tech heavy NASDAQ Composite. In fact, outside of Alphabet (GOOG) all of the leading mega cap tech stocks that reported ended lower.2. The bright spot for Tech stocks was the semiconductors (SMH, SOX) The leading semiconductor stocks ended the week very strong. This is a positive for the sector and for technology as a whole. Every trader and investor should use the semiconductor sector as a stock market barometer. Right now, they are acting strong. 3. Bitcoin we're hitting key resistance again. Don't be taken in on its recent advance. Might be a little further advance, beware4. Gold/silver yesterday gold had an impressive day. It came down today and it still needs to do some work before it will advance. Gold miners still not leading.
1. Its Fed DayThe 2-day FOMC meeting concludes today. The central bank will make their interest rate policy decision at 2 pm ET. The truth be told, the Fed is not expected to do anything. The verbiage could move markets, but I do not see them taking any new actions. Right now, they are buying $120 billion a month of mortgage backed securities (MBS) and U.S. Treasuries. As we all know, the Fed is the leading catalyst for the market rally. Any type of taper could crash the market. No news is good news. 2. Earnings from Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOG) were released last night. These mega cap tech names are giving a boost to the tech heavy Nasdaq Composite today. Facebook (FB) is the next mega cap tech stock to report earnings tonight after the close. Perhaps the news has already been discounted. Tesla earnings came out yesterday. They were better than expected. Don't buy on earnings. Let them settle out for a few days and then see if there's an opportuntity. 3. Bitcoin is almost at 40k, even 41k and is at resistance and never went above. Musk is the Bitcoin Moses. Trouble brewing? 4. Gold/Silver in a downward consolidation, sideways pattern. Gold miners are under pressure. Not a good opportunity to buy. The miners aren't leading the physical.
1. Is the 'Friday Effect" back? This is where the markets seem to always rally on a Friday. This did not play out last week, but it seems that the 'Friday Effect' has not worked on the past two monthly options expirations (June & July options expiration). It looks to be in gear today.2. Earnings season is underway. Next week we get the big mega cap tech stocks reporting. Almost every trader in the world is waiting for this to happen. Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), Facebook (FB) & Amazon (AMZN) all report next week. 3. Robinhood IPORobinhood is the most highly anticipated IPO of the year. The company is expected to come public late next week. The ticker symbol for the stock will be HOOD.4. BitcoinContinued pattern of weakness. Hasn't broken down yet. 5. Gold/SilverStill getting slammed. Down by $8, under 1800. It's been weak since June expiration. Miners are lagging metal, always a bad sign.
1. Big cap tech holds the leadership position.Yesterday, Amazon (AMZN) broke out to the upside making new all time highs. There was also strength in Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOG) and other NASDAQ-100 stocks. The leadership is very thin right now, but this is where the strength is in the market. Hated bull market, but central banks continue to monetize. This is a tired market. When was the last time we saw a 10 percent pull back? 2. Bond yields are falling again.Yields on the 10-year U.S. treasury note are tumbling again today. They are trading down by 6 basis points to 1.308%. When yields fall it means money is flowing into bonds again. This is certainly helping the tech sector, but hurting the financial stocks. Financials love a steep yield curve. 3. Oil is rolling over. Crude recently tested its October 2018 high. This top coincided with a failed OPEC + meeting. Since that resistance level was reached oil has begun to pull back. This is certainly hurting the leading energy stocks. 4. Gold/Silver still on the weaker side, gold is up $11 in futures trading. Gold has made a stand over the past 5 days. Might be a play soon. 5. Bitcoin/Cryptos cryptos are still hanging in, Bitcoin hanging at 34,700. It's range bound, but it's a bear base. Will Ethereum leap ahead of Bitcoin. Both trading on par right now. Bitcoin has the popularity advantage now.
1. Earnings season is underway and the big boys are reporting this week. Alphabet (GOOG) is up 5% and Microsoft (MSFT) is down 3%, both reported last night. There are many other stocks reporting earnings this week that will be in focus. Apple (AAPL) and Facebook (FB) will report this afternoon. The major stock indexes are basically flat and seem to be treading water at this time. Volume is a key for me and it remains extremely light at this time. At this time, I'm really not very impressed by the market reactions to most earnings reports. 2. Later today, the FOMC meeting will conclude at 2pm ET. I do not expect the Fed to change course from the QE unlimited policy, but the verbiage will be important. A Jay Powell press conference will start at 2:30 pm. Sometimes this can move markets. Precious metals, yields, and the U.S. Dollar are all in play after the Fed announcement. It’s pedal to the metal and they can’t stop now or the markets will almost certainly crash. It’s a big blank sandwich and everyone will have to take a bite. Powell is the head carnival barker. A little longer but more and more signs it’s coming to an end. 3. Gold/Silver almost every time there’s a Fed announcement gold and silver get slammed. Gold is poised for a major move higher. Pulled back ahead of the announcement. Let’s see what happens to the

1. We have a mixed market today with no major moves in the indexes. Winner of the day is the Russell, slightly up. This week is really all about earnings. Today, we are seeing Tesla (TSLA) lower by 3.3% after their earnings announcement. This is not having any major effect on the market though. On the flip slide, United Parcel Service (UPS) is surging after earnings and this is helping the transportation stocks. Tonight, Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOG) are the big mega-caps scheduled to report. They could set the tone for tomorrow. 2. Another NFL player is requesting to get paid in Bitcoin. Crypto mania is running wild. We shall see if he is buying a top or perhaps he is a genius and will be rewarded soon. 3. Gold/Silver gold down slightly, silver up a bit. Pattern is still shaping up.
1. This morning, the major stock indexes are slightly higher to start the week. The trading volume is very light so far. A lackluster session. m This is a big week for earnings, especially for the mega-cap tech stocks. Microsoft (MSFT) and Alphabet (GOOG) report tomorrow afternoon. Apple (AAPL) and Facebook (FB) report Wednesday afternoon. Then Amazon (AMZN) reports on Thursday. There is also a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting that begins tomorrow and concludes on Wednesday. While nobody expects the Fed to change course at this stage of the game it will be important to hear what they say. Sometimes they will throw subtle hints at possible changes down the road. It’s a very orchestrated market. Until they lose control. Friday is PPT Day. 2. Gold/Silver gold futures up a buck and miners down slightly. Silver up slightly. A nice sideways pattern that is building towards the $1800 level. A week or so and then we’ll know. The pattern is a solid move.
1. The markets are pulling back a little this morning as we start the day. Earlier today, the Weekly Initial Jobless Claims reported 547,000 new claims, this was below the prior week's revised count of 586,000. Continuing claims fell to 3.674 million from a revised count of 3.708 million. So while this is trending in the right direction, it is just really slow going. Quiet flat day today with some backing and filling. No volume. The market takes the stairs up and the elevator down. Declines on higher volume can easily lead to panics. 2. Earnings are pouring in and each stock will have to be viewed on an individual basis. Next week is when we will get the large mega-cap tech stocks like Apple Inc (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Facebook (FB), Alphabet (GOOG) and Amazon (AMZN) reporting. 3. Gold/SIlver backing off a little bit today. Futures getting close to the 1800 resistance point. A little backing and filling. Just what the doctor ordered. Silver backing off a little - .19.
