For decades, depression has often been described as the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. But how strong is the evidence behind that idea? This episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to be actively debated and is intended to encourage thoughtful discussion—not to provide individualized medical advice. Today on The Dr. Hyman Show, I'm joined by psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Joanna Moncrieff to examine the science behind the serotonin theory and explore how it shaped modern mental health care. Together, we consider why rethinking our assumptions may open the door to a more complete understanding of depression and recovery. We discuss: • Whether depression is best understood through the lens of a chemical imbalance—or something far more complex • How the serotonin theory shaped modern psychiatry and why it's increasingly being questioned • What current research says about antidepressants, emotional numbing, and informed consent • Why lifestyle, nutrition, trauma, and social connection deserve a larger role in supporting mental health • How a more individualized, whole-person approach could change the way we think about depression and recovery Mental health treatment is deeply personal, and this episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to evolve. If you're currently taking antidepressants or other prescription medications, don't stop or change your treatment based on this discussion alone. Instead, use it as a starting point for an informed conversation with your healthcare provider. Learn More: Dr. Moncrieff recently participated in an FDA Expert Panel on SSRIs and Pregnancy. If you'd like to explore another perspective on the evidence discussed in this episode, you can watch the panel here. In this special episode of Tank Talks, recorded live during Toronto Tech Week at Moomoo Canada's flagship store in Yorkville, Matt Cohen sits down with two of venture's sharpest data and investment minds for an unfiltered conversation on the state of private markets.Peter Walker, Senior Director of Insights at Carta, brings the hard numbers from 60,000+ companies and 3,000+ US venture funds, revealing the stark reality behind valuation markups, unicorn deterioration, and the widening dispersion between top-tier and median deals.John Rikhtegar, Vice President at Northleaf Capital Partners and former RBC investor, offers the LP perspective on why trust matters more than ever, why emerging managers are bearing the brunt of capital allocation challenges, and how disciplined pacing and vintage diversification separate winning funds from the rest.Together, they tackle the 4.3 trillion-dollar NAV overhang, the brutal graduation rates for 2021 vintage funds, whether valuations have permanently shifted, and why the ATM analogy might be the best way to understand AI's impact on venture careers. If you're a GP raising capital, an LP sorting through manager pitches, or just trying to make sense of where venture is headed, this episode is a must-listen.The Great LP Reset: Trust Over Performance (08:05)* Why LPs are letting go of newer relationships while sticking with 15-year partners.* The COVID furlough analogy: why junior and newer team members are the first to go.* How trust became the ultimate table stakes in today's fundraising environment. The 4.3 Trillion Dollar NAV Problem (12:33)* Why SpaceX's IPO would return only 10% of capital deployed over the last decade.* The staggering number of unicorns still sitting on stale marks from 2021.* What happens when 50% of unicorn down rounds become the new normal.Valuation Dispersion Is Breaking the Model (17:38)* Seed valuations jumped from $15M post-money (2022) to $24M (2025).* Series A went from $46M to nearly $80M in the same period.* Why the gap between the top decile and the median has never been wider.* How GPs must adapt ownership expectations or get priced out of deals. The Unicorn Graveyard: Stale Marks and Deteriorating Assets (19:28)* December 2021: 640 unicorns on Carta; 85% of current US unicorns.* 30% have raised new up-rounds; of the rest, half raised down rounds of 50% or more.* How GPs are forced to tell LPs that their “trophy assets” are no longer real.Pacing, Reserves, and Portfolio Construction (22:53)* Why disciplined 3-4 year deployment beats 18-month “firehose” strategies.* The 80/20 reserve debate: why leading rounds can become a net negative.* How “deal 13” is just as likely to succeed as “deal 12”, and why slightly larger portfolios make sense.LP Diligence: It's Not About the Marks (31:55)* Why TDPI and DPI are just 2 of 100 mosaic factors in LP decision-making.* How LPs now go company-by-company, not fund-by-fund.* The importance of founder references, especially from failed companies.Canada vs. The US: A Fractal Problem (40:44)* Why every market (Toronto, Sydney, London, Seattle) faces the same “Silicon Valley problem.”* The importance of domestic liquidity and secondary markets over chasing US LPs.* Why returns, not international capital, will ultimately scale Canadian firms.AI and the Future of Venture Careers (44:44)* The ATM analogy: AI will eliminate tasks, not jobs.* Why the role of the investor becomes more important as noise and froth increase.* How family offices are shifting their mix between fund investing and direct deals.Retail Access to Private Markets: Feature or Bug? (53:27)* Why illiquidity in private markets is a feature, not a bug.* The absurdity of allowing crypto “shitcoins” but blocking friends from investing in startups.* Why “401k-entrance” to private equity is a bigger story than retail venture access.About the GuestsPeter Walker is the Senior Director of Insights at Carta, where he leads the team responsible for analyzing data from over 60,000 companies and 3,000+ venture funds. We also hear from the former Deputy Minister of Defence Jody Thomas about what years leading the bureaucracy taught her about what's wrong with how Canada buys military equipment.

TCS teamed up with the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) on a new report, How to Cut a Half a Trillion Dollars from the Pentagon Budget Request and Strengthen National Security, identifying nearly $500 billion in defensible cuts to acquisition programs.Gabe Murphy (TCS) is joined by POGO's Greg Williams and Virginia Burger to walk through the methodology and the specifics: munitions replenishment in the wake of Epic Fury, an F-35 procurement freeze tied to a 1-in-4 fleet readiness rate, the unproven sixth-generation fighter program, cost overruns on the Sentinel ICBM, redundant B-21 bomber spending, Ford-class carrier production issues, the newly proposed Trump-class battleship, Golden Dome missile defense, and Pentagon contractor subsidies.Full report and cut list at taxpayer.net.

This episode of  Undressed with Pol' and Patrik is packed with hilarious debates, celebrity fashion critiques, behind-the-scenes Hollywood stories, and one of our favorite conversations with the incredibly talented Wendy Braun. We kick things off with our Haute Topics segment, diving into workplace burnout, mandatory team building, LinkedIn culture, artificial intelligence, and whether ChatGPT is making people more creative—or simply making everyone lazy. Wendy shares her unique perspective on company culture, authenticity, auditions, and why loving what you do may be the ultimate cure for burnout. Then we tackle one of the biggest headlines of the year—Elon Musk potentially becoming the world's first trillionaire. What starts as a funny conversation about having Elon's baby quickly turns into a deeper discussion about philanthropy, responsibility, Mars, space travel, and how unimaginable wealth could change the future of humanity. Things get surprisingly emotional as we discuss teamwork, trust, relationships, toxic environments, and how actors survive constant rejection while staying authentic. Wendy shares incredible wisdom about auditions, not attaching meaning to rejection, and why showing up as your authentic self is the greatest competitive advantage anyone can have. We also pull back the curtain on AI, LinkedIn culture, Amazon productions, NDA secrets, meeting Jeff Bezos, and why Hollywood often keeps projects hidden for years before audiences ever see them. Next it's time for one of our favorite segments—Runway Rundown—where no celebrity is safe. We hilariously critique red carpet looks from Ariana DeBose, Drew Barrymore, and Maya Rudolph, discussing tailoring, styling disasters, proportions, craftsmanship, and why expensive fashion doesn't always equal fabulous fashion. Along the way we share unforgettable stories about designing for the legendary Betty White, why the red carpet exists, and how fashion has the power to completely reinvent someone's career and confidence. The tables turn when Wendy becomes our surprise Runway Rundown winner after we discover one of her breathtaking editorial photo shoots. We break down every detail that made the image Vogue-worthy while talking modeling, movement, photography, and working with celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz. Then the laughs continue during our outrageous Game Time segment featuring "Company Retreat or Defeat," where Wendy hilariously chooses between trust falls, pyramid schemes, goat yoga, silent discos, rage rooms, axe throwing, therapy, and more. She even reveals the improv audition that landed one of her biggest roles, proving that sometimes goat yoga really can help you book a job. Filled with heartfelt advice, laugh-out-loud moments, Hollywood insider stories, celebrity fashion critiques, and unforgettable behind-the-scenes revelations, this episode reminds us that authenticity, confidence, kindness, and a little couture can change absolutely everything. Is the global space industry paving the way toward a multi-trillion dollar commercial empire, or are we drastically underestimating the economic ripples it creates right here on Earth? In this episode of Manufacturing Talk Radio, host Lew Weiss and co-host Cliff Waldman sit down with Oğuz Karasu, a prominent postdoctoral research fellow at the Saïd Business School and founder of the Space and Economy Alliance. As a specialized teaching fellow in space finance and sustainability, Oğuz provides a rigorous, data-driven framework to examine how the post-Artemis II era is fundamentally shifting the global macroeconomic landscape. Together, the hosts and their guest explore the hidden complexities of measuring direct and indirect industrial outputs, tracing the financial divide between heavy upstream launch mechanics and expansive downstream data distribution networks. From the impending realization of direct device-to-satellite cellular communication to the engineering barriers of mitigating sharp lunar regolith dust for off-world infrastructure, Oğuz separates reality from speculation. Tune in to discover how cutting-edge research in space-based solar power depends directly on the launch scalability of platforms like Starship, the strategic balance between public government contracts and innovative private entrepreneurship, and how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and orbital data centers are co-evolving to redefine the limits of human industry. Recent reports indicate that OpenAI is considering postponing its initial public offering from late 2026 until 2027. This potential shift in timing is reportedly driven by CEO Sam Altman's goal of achieving a $1 trillion valuation, a figure far exceeding the company's recent private market appraisals. Advisors suggest that market instability and the disappointing performance of other major tech debuts, specifically SpaceX, have created a more cautious environment for a massive listing. While some analysts view the delay as a strategic move to strengthen financial infrastructure, others argue it reflects a fear of the rigorous scrutiny found in public markets. Despite having already filed confidential paperwork with the SEC, the company maintains that its final timeline remains flexible and dependent on favorable economic conditions. This news has already impacted the broader AI sector, causing fluctuations for partners and competitors alike.

For decades, investors valued companies based on a familiar formula: Grow revenue, earn profits, and reward shareholders. But a new era may be beginning - one where trillion-dollar companies can lose billions of dollars a year and still command enormous valuations. SpaceX recently became one of the world's most valuable public companies despite reporting multibillion-dollar losses. Meanwhile, OpenAI and Anthropic are also racing toward public markets with sky-high valuations and no expectation of near-term profitability. These companies are spending staggering sums on chips, data centers, and AI infrastructure, as they bet that today's losses will create tomorrow's economic winners. Today, Derek is joined by Michael Batnick and Ben Carlson of Ritholtz Wealth Management and the Animal Spirits podcast to explore the rise of the trillion-dollar, zero-profit company and what it says about the future of technology, investing, and the American economy. What if the biggest threat to the next generation of tech giants isn't regulation or competition, but simple arithmetic? In this episode of The Valley Current®, host Jack Russo dives into one of the most consequential financial experiments in modern history: the potential public debuts of SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Together, they could unleash nearly $4 trillion in market value and ignite a feeding frenzy among investors. But beneath the excitement lies a more unsettling reality. Trillions of dollars in AI infrastructure spending, circular financing loops, concentrated bets on a handful of companies, and valuation metrics that evoke uncomfortable comparisons to both the dot-com bubble and 1929. Is Wall Street witnessing the birth of the next industrial revolution, or building the conditions for a spectacular correction? The answer could reshape portfolios and define the next decade of innovation. Elon Musk became the world's first trillionaire last week after the record-breaking IPO of his company SpaceX. Musk presents the firm's economic take off as the necessary means to a wider end for humanity, to become a multi-planetary species. “That's what SpaceX is all about,” Musk recently said at the company's headquarters. “To take the fiction out of science fiction.” While Musk was looking to the stars, the people of Belfast were still reeling from several days of racist violence. The Belfast pogrom drew strength from the far-right ecosystem that Musk has nurtured with the money from SpaceX, Tesla, and other companies. Musk himself repeatedly called for anti-immigrant protests and boosted the messaging of Britain's neofascist right. His social-media platform generated the atmosphere of a frenzied lynch mob. Over two episodes, Long Reads will explore the two sides of Elon Musk and his impact on the world. Our guests are Quinn Slobodian and Ben Tarnoff, authors of Muskism: A Guide for the Perplexed. This interview was conducted a few days before the SpaceX IPO. Long Reads is a Jacobin podcast looking in-depth at political topics and thinkers, both contemporary and historical, with the magazine's writers. Hosted by features editor Daniel Finn. From there, Guy and Dan dig into the broader AI trade, single-stock volatility versus a VIX sitting below 16, and what the repeal of the pattern day trading rule could mean for retail momentum names going forward.
