In this episode, I sit down with one of my favorite people on the planet — Linsay Rosser-Sumpter — lifelong cowgirl, powerhouse leader, and one of the driving forces behind Premier Women's Rodeo (PWR).Linsay and I go way back to our Colorado days, long hauls in the truck, and all the miles and memories that shaped who we are today. But this conversation digs even deeper. Lindsay opens up about the evolution of women's rodeo, why change was necessary, and the mission she and Sammy Jo Smith have carried forward: creating a platform where every cowgirl — pros, challengers, limited, moms, beginners, and veterans — has an honest shot at opportunity. She breaks down why PWR matters, how it came to be, and what it means to build a system that finally treats female rodeo athletes with the respect, visibility, and payout they deserve. From the magic of the back-number gala to 2.4 million CBS network viewers watching women compete on a global stage, Linsay lays out how this movement is shifting the culture — not just inside the arena, but industry-wide.We talk motherhood, identity, leadership, fairness, and the responsibility to leave rodeo better than we found it. Linsay shares her heart for the next generation — including her own boys — and why she refuses to let the old way of doing things define the future for cowgirls. This conversation is heartfelt, fiery, and full of the passion that makes Lindsay who she is — an advocate, a visionary, and the kind of cowgirl who doesn't just talk about change… she builds it.

This week on the podcast, I'm joined by one of the most respected leaders in Western sports, Linsay Rosser Sumpter, Commissioner of the Women's Rodeo Championships. Linsay has literally done it all: athlete, coach, producer, secretary, marketer, stock contractor, and now a trailblazer in creating real opportunities for women in rodeo. In this episode, Linsay shares her rodeo roots (shoutout to the legendary Cotton Rosser), how she became commissioner of one of the fastest-growing rodeo events in the world, and why she believes innovation and inclusion are key to the future of the sport. We talk about breakaway roping, equal payouts, fan experience, and how Linsay balances deep respect for rodeo's heritage with a clear vision for what's next. We also dive into topics like animal welfare, Title IX, competing rodeo calendars, and what the rodeo industry can learn from women's basketball and even Taylor Swift. Linsay holds nothing back, and her passion for the sport, its athletes, and the next generation is contagious. With over 800 elections already conducted using RCV and growing bipartisan support in states like Maine and Alaska, this episode explores how RCV reduces negative campaigning, empowers majority rule, and encourages candidates to actually engage with all voters—not just their base.Meredith explains how RCV works, where it's spreading, and why local communities are leading the charge. Can a voting method really make elections more civil? What would it take to implement RCV nationwide? And why are some politicians resisting it, even if their constituents support it?This isn't just a conversation about ballots—it's about restoring faith in the democratic process.

Y'all, I'm still catching my breath from one of the most electric weeks in women's rodeo history. In this episode of In The LOOP, I sat down with Sammy Jo Smith and Lindsay Rosser-Sumpter to break down everything that went down at the 2025 Women's Rodeo World Championships—and let me tell you, it was one for the books.AT&T Stadium was absolutely booming. From start to finish, it felt like the entire sport of women's rodeo leveled up. We saw Limited, Challenger, and Pro athletes compete side-by-side on the biggest stage, and it was clear—we're not just “in the loop”… we're leading it.Charmaine Holdren gave me goosebumps in the barrel race, nearly winning it all as a Limited athlete. Ashton Pratts and Tammy Lewis teaming up and taking the win was such a powerful moment—one that reminded me just how much legacy and future can exist in the same arena. We also got real about what it takes behind the scenes to bring an event like this to life. From months of Zoom calls and logistics to working with amazing partners like PBR, WCRA, and Cowboy Channel, this was the biggest and best WRWC yet.And we're already charging into 2026. More events. More opportunities. Double points. Bigger payouts. Our partnership with NBHA is creating new doors for barrel racers. Chris Neal Productions is bringing in more chances for breakaway ropers, and the Kimes Ranch Million Dollar Breakaway is changing the game completely. If you're a cowgirl dreaming of a bigger platform, or you're someone who believes in the power of this sport—we've got a place for you. The momentum is real, and it's only growing.Tune in, subscribe, and come along. How to fix American democracy? It's a question that, over the last couple of years, we've been addressing in my Bertelsmann Foundation supported How To Fix Democracy show, now its fifth year. And it is, of course, also a subject much addressed over the years on KEEN ON. My guest on today's show, Meredith Sumpter, has also given the subject of fixing American democracy much thought. Sumpter is the President & CEO of FairVote, a non-profit dedicated to making American democracy more democratic. And as she explains, this can be most effectively done through Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), a practical reform of the electoral system that can radically revitalize American politics.Meredith Sumpter is an executive leader and builder of innovative organizations and movements that drive value for people. As President and CEO of FairVote, Meredith is working to advance a more functional and representative democracy that delivers for every American. FairVote is a nonpartisan organization that researches and advances voting reforms including ranked choice voting and the Fair Representation Act. Ranked choice voting has become the fastest-growing voting reform in the nation because it empowers voters and rewards candidates and elected officials who can win majority support. Previously, Meredith was CEO & President of the Board of the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, a global community of CEOs committing their organizations to actions that demonstrate value creation with sustainable and inclusive business practices. The Council expanded from 25 to 570+ corporate and investor CEOs during her tenure, taking 780+ measurable actions tied to the UN SDGs. She was CEO of the separate Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism, which convened leaders across private, public, and civic sectors to launch market-relevant reforms. Meredith has a track record of leading multi-stakeholder initiatives at executive levels with systemic impact. This includes the Just Transition Framework for Company Action, the first private-sector guide for companies, investors and policymakers to advance environmental and social goals with transition tied to market indicators, and the Pension Fund Coalition long-term value creation template mandates for use by asset owners and asset managers in public equity and private markets investment contracts. Bringing people together to solve problems and expand opportunity is a central theme in Meredith's work. She has held an advisory position at New America and Harvard University, where Meredith convened public sector leaders with national research experts on innovative reforms to advance democratic resilience including with AI and governance, health equity, social justice, and economic opportunity. It's easy to find examples of what success in entrepreneurship looks like. There are dozens of TV shows, thousands of books, and millions of blog posts that are meant to share tips, secrets, and let us into the minds of people who've made it in all kinds of business. But the fact of the matter is that the only ones who can truly understand what it's like—the many failures that typically come with a breakout win—are the people who've taken a leap of faith without any idea of how their attempt to launch a product or start a business will turn out. You're as likely to be built up as broken down on this journey. In this episode, we spend a lot of time talking about entrepreneurship with my friend, Kristen Sumpter, who co-founded bar and bottleshop Red's Beer Garden with her husband, Ed. We've gotten to know each other through a group she co-founded with past podcast guest Sara Kazmer, which includes several women entrepreneurs who live in the Atlanta area. For almost two years, I've listened as Kristen has shared the waves of triumphs and tribulations of building a beloved local hangout. In our conversation, we explore Kristen's journey from that initial spark of inspiration to the day-to-day realities of running a successful business. You'll hear her talk about the importance of community, embracing vulnerability, and prioritizing self-care amidst the entrepreneurial hustle. Kristen also shares how she's able to show up as her authentic self on Instagram and how long she's been obsessed with hot dogs, a staple of the food menu at Red's.

The industry is getting more technologically advanced and many superintendents are learning how to embrace these changes. Matt Sumpter, Golf Course Superintendent at Columbia Country Club outside of Washington DC, knows a little about embracing new technologies. Formerly the Blue Course Superintendent at Congressional Country Club, he led a team through the new construction project. Matt talks about new software programs and GPS technologies that helped them build the course and get it up and running during a busy grow in. Most importantly he talks about not being afraid of these changes but embracing them knowing that with a little effort he and his team could make almost anything work. He also talked about the process he used when interviewing for his current position and the marketing material he put together to show his new club his commitment to the position – and it worked! Today's History Story: This Deity Reminds Us Of The Importance Of Our Ancestors For millenia, mythologies and religions of the world have predicted a great calamity–an event so catastrophic that it will stop the world as we know it and bring forth the apocalypse. If the natural disasters, racial injustices, and widespread wars of today are any indiciation, one could say those mythological predictions were correct. One could say we are, in fact, living in the end of times. Today's guest sure would. Li Sumpter is a mythologist, eco-activist, and multi-disciplinary artist who is confronting earthly challenges, like racial injustice, food shortages, war, natural disasters, and other atrocities, through what she calls the art of survival. Using D.I.Y. media, afrofuturism, and gameplay to cultivate eco-awareness and community action, she's tackling real and imagined existential threats to mind, body and spirit, offering practical and creative solutions that we can use now to survive an apocalypse. You can learn more about Li's eco- and survival art, like Graffiti in the Grass, and other initiatives at www.mythmediastudios.art. We had the pleasure of getting to know a few individuals who play a big part in both the PBR world and the Professional Rodeo world. Much like last year, your boys were invited to sit down with some amazing people in conjunction with PBR and have a great conversation. First, we had Chad and Addi Drury from "Nothin' but Try Ranch" discussing what it's like to be stock contractors and raise bucking bulls. Then, we sat down with Linsay Rosser-Sumpter - a mom, wife, coach, breakaway roper, and commissioner of the Women's Rodeo World Championship. Rodeo life is a crazy life, but we're fortunate to get some insights from these amazing people. So like always, sit back, relax, and enjoy.CALL OR TEXT OUR HOTLINE AND LEAVE US A MESSAGE! 817-677-0408Fort Worth MagazineBest of 2022 - Radio Personality/Podcast (Reader's Pick) Show LinksThe Funky PantherMerchYouTube
