Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Well Woman Show! We're having a deeply meaningful and timely conversation about healing, ambition, and the hidden impacts of systemic trauma, especially for high-achieving women, with my special guest, Annie Wright, LMFT.  Annie is a licensed psychotherapist, relational trauma recovery specialist, writer, and founder of Evergreen Counseling. She is dedicated to helping ambitious women heal the impacts of early relational trauma, break survival-driven patterns, and build thriving, fulfilling lives. She also continues to share trauma-informed insights as a columnist for Psychology Today, a frequent media expert featured in Forbes, Business Insider, and NBC.  In today's conversation, Annie shares her journey of trauma, healing, and entrepreneurship, and how it shaped the powerful work she does today. She offers insight into how trauma manifests in ambitious women, how systemic forces compound our struggles, and what it truly means to build a strong, stable life from the inside out. Together, we explore: The link between childhood trauma and overwork, burnout, and perfectionism How relational and systemic trauma shape our beliefs, behaviors, and boundaries What healing looks like when you're still ambitious - how ambitious women and healthy work habits can co-exist Why addressing the "cracks in your foundation" is key to lasting emotional and relational wellness The importance of creating space for rest, especially for women of color navigating multiple systems of oppression in today's political landscape Annie brings not only clinical expertise but lived experience to the conversation, making her insights all the more powerful and resonant. Whether you're navigating burnout, feeling triggered by the world around you, or simply ready to heal in a deeper, more sustainable way, this episode is for you. -- Also happening this month, 100 Women Albuquerque will be meeting on May 14th at 5:30 pm in Albuquerque to amplify our impact and assist under-supported organizations. Heal Your Mind to Heal Your Business   This week, we're talking with special guest Annie Wright, LMFT, a psychotherapist, about relational trauma and mental wellness and how it affects your business.   Annie founded and runs Evergreen Counseling, a boutique trauma-informed therapy center in Berkeley, California, where she practices therapy and oversees a staff of 20 trauma therapists. In addition to her direct clinical work, she runs an online course called Hard Families Good Boundaries. This transformative video-based program helps folks deal more effectively with the difficult family members who may be in their lives—I'm sure we all have some of those.  She is also a published mental health author, with her opinions appearing in Business Insider, Forbes, NBC, the Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and more.  Every bit of Annie's work in the world, her clinical work, the center she founded, the courses she runs, and every article she writes is designed to support ambitious, upwardly mobile women from relational trauma backgrounds. We talk about mental health, emotional dysregulation, the importance of business owners having a healthy mental perspective, and how to recognize when they might need additional support.  In this episode, Annie and I have a great conversation about relational trauma and how two people can experience the same relational trauma and have two very different experiences and outcomes. We then discuss resilience and what you can do to create more resilience in your life.  Finally, we wrap up the show by talking about the impact of mobile devices on your mental health.  I hope you enjoy this episode—I think it's really important because one of the best things you can do for yourself as a business owner is to really understand your own mental health.  The more healthy and well you are from a mental health perspective, the better equipped you are to serve your customers, support your team, and take care of yourself.   What's In This Episode How to identify when you should try therapy  Defining relational trauma and identifying its effects  How to become more resilient  The importance of sleep, limited screen time, and exercise to our mental wellness   What To Do Next Visit lisalarter.com/e152 for all resources from this episode.

Warning: This possibly triggering dialogue about personal growth, workplace healing, and the intrinsic responsibilities of being an entrepreneur is intense — but could be exactly what you need for the leader you are becoming.  Working through our own unresolved traumas is a deeply personal journey. It's one that we typically don't consider when setting out to grow a business, because it just feels so… separate. Or so we think.  For Annie Wright, LMFT, it's time to start rewriting the way we look at relational trauma and healing not only for ourselves – but for who we are becoming as *business leaders*… and those around us whom we impact. As a licensed trauma therapist, successful entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for mental health in the workplace, Annie founded Evergreen Counseling — a multimillion-dollar therapy center in Berkeley, CA that specializes in supporting individuals who have experienced relational trauma. And she is a champion for mental health and trauma healing within companies and business environments — in the interest of both employees and founders. In this episode of Reward, The Trust founder Ali Brown sits down with our member Annie to discuss how *critical* it is for personal growth and unresolved issues to come to light when building your own business, *especially* when our life's work is so deeply intertwined with our deeper soul-work. Do NOT miss this.  On this episode of the #REWARDPodcast, you'll hear: How Annie's own journey navigating childhood trauma informed her leadership style The actionable steps you can take in addressing personal trauma in the workplace (HINT: this means being aware of your own unresolved issues as a leader too!) Annie's powerful advice on how "rupture is inevitable, but repair counts” in *every* situation, from kids to clients Ali's personal confession of her fears around her own parenting (this was an emotional one!) The *BEST* therapy methodologies for effective results (it might be time to switch methods for what you need) Annie and Ali's mutual love of the coveted Eselan Kale Salad (IYKYK) AND the affirmation you may have been seeking that your mental health deserves to be protected — not only in your personal life, but as an entrepreneur too! The first Sikh wedding at the Second Avenue Gurdwara (Khalsa Diwan Society) in Vancouver was also an intercultural union. Annie Wright and Munsha Singh fell in love and were married in 1909, and made history as not only the first couple to be married at the gurdwara, but also as the first noted marriage between a Caucasian Christian and a South Asian Sikh in Canada. We piece together the story of their relationship, and the people and stories that intersected with their lives, as well as other tales of conversions and mistaken identities. The Nameless Collective Podcast Season 1 is a Canadian History podcast produced by JugniStyle.com and Manjot Bains, with additional sound engineering by Devinder Singh.
