SUGGESTED STUDIO LEAD-IN/VO: Construction is nearing completion at the Navy's newest installation in northern Poland. The Naval Support Facility in Redzikowo (pronounced Red-jick-KoVo) will be home to the Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense System(AABMDS), which will fall under NATO when completed. The base is expected to be fully operational sometime in late 2020. The Aegis Ashore site in Poland will expand a defensive capability that protects NATO European territories, populations and forces against ballistic missiles launched from outside the Euro-Atlantic region. (Video by U.S. Navy Lt. Amy Forsythe, Public Affairs Officer, Naval Support Facility Redzikowo) B-Roll shots: construction workers walking to and from sites, equipment vehicles being used, paving cement, static shots of structures Soundbites/Quotes: U.S. Navy Capt. Jon Grant, Commander, Naval Support Facility Redzikowo, Poland July 9, 2019 “What we're looking at is the radar deck house in the background and further down range in our facilities are where the launchers are. The vertical launchers are eight cell, there eight cell, launchers that provide the SM-3 intercepts for the Ballistic Missile Defense.” “The construction here is ongoing and probably will be completed sometime in 2020.” “There are teams from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Facility Engineering and also Missile Defense Agency that are working hard to get the base completed. It's going through a very meticulous process. It's very complicated, they are doing their due diligence to do it right and make sure it's read to go in 2020.” “The Sailors are really enjoying Poland. Right now, they're living in town in apartments until we can move onto the base. Once we have power and water on the base, we'll be able to accommodate them there in a multipurpose facility that has a lot of different activities. It will have an MWR and will have a movie theater, a game room. As well as a fitness center, galley and a medical department attached to the multipurpose facility, which they will live in.” “Now, they're enjoying living in Slupsk and in a community called Ustka, which is near the coast. It's summertime in Poland and it's very, very popular place to go and everybody I think is enjoying the hospitality here in Poland.” “They're able to travel not only in Poland, but throughout Europe. So it's a learning opportunity for them to share and experience different cultures that they can see first-hand. I encourage that when they're not on duty, studying for their next ratings exam or advancement test, then they should be enjoying the Polish countryside. So, we encourage that when they come to Poland.” “So, our motto here is “One team, One fight.” So, we all work very well together. What I think I'll miss the most is the comradery between the difference agencies. We all work together pretty harmoniously and we're working on a very important project, not only to the United States, but for Europe as well. So, we want to make sure we get it right and everybody is on the same sheet of music. We're very proud of that I think that as the different inter-agencies work together, we've become stronger, stronger as a nation.”

On this 31st annual general meeting of the Global Network against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, held over ZOOM on the 15th of July, we presents a number of eloquent discussions encapsulating not only Ballistic Missile Defense systems (Star Wars) but also the development of NATO into the Asia-Pacific, Full Spectrum Dominance, and the evolution of propaganda in the era of social media and the internet. These discussions are the focus of this summertime edition of the Global Research News Hour. Appearing in this discussion were GN Board Chair Dave Webb, Korean-American Juyeon Rhee, independent journalist Christian Sorenson, retired educator and organizer Lisa Savage, and Canadian peace activist and academic Tamara Lorincz.
Super-long episode. Quite possible our longest yet. Not sure what's got into me. I'll work on making shorter episodes. Anyway- good stories tonight though. We lead off with information from the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (#11- I think)- held in Germany. We then discuss the UK's 2023 National Security Review through an Opinion Piece (Breaking Defense). Next, on to Japan for a nice naval story and remain in the Pacific to discuss long-range precision missiles for Australia and the US INDO-PACOM. Finally, we finish with three stories on Air & Missile Defense (including counter-UAS) from US CENTCOM, Germany, and India. All in all a good episode- long- but good. Hope you like it.
Unprecedented for the podcast- 4 x Naval Stories ( 2 x US; 1 x Japan; & 1 x Spain). Plus, we have two stories from Finland- one concerning the Saab MANPADS RBS-70 & one that discusses three variants of the SPIKE Missile. Finally, we have another SWITCHBLADE 600 story- this time from Lithuania.

What were some of the contemporary concerns around Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) proposed missile defense system? In this episode we will take a broad look at attitudes towards the "Star Wars" program, both in support and against. What did some Americans think of it? Why did it concern the Soviet Union as well as some among America's allies?
Our guest, John Foley, takes us to the Dark Side--the really Dark Side. Shadow Wars. Things you didn't know about Ballistic Missile Defense. Weapons deals. Militia groups. Scorched earth. The Space Force? On the lighter side we talk about Dis-information, Social Media, the SPLC & ADL and Libertarians. Note: The quality of the sound may be a little wonky, but one of us was on a cell phone during this podcast.
From power chords to missile defense. Jeff “Skunk” Baxter has managed to bridge two very specialized careers in his extraordinary life. Who would have thought that the guitar mastermind behind Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers has also been part of the Civilian Advisory Board for Ballistic Missile Defense and the NASA Exploration Systems Advisory Committee? Better yet, this is only a fraction of Jeff Baxter’s tremendous career(s). YoungNostalgiaPod@gmail.com — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Baxter

The current conflict in Ukraine has reopened old wounds and brought the complexity of Russia’s relationship with the United States and Europe to the forefront. One of the most important factors in relations between the Kremlin and the West has been the issue of Ballistic Missile Defense, particularly as a result of American plans to develop a Missile Defense Shield with installations in Eastern Europe. Bilyana Lilly, an expert on Eurasian affairs and security, has written the most comprehensive study available on Russia’s Ballistic Missile Defense policies. In the course of her book Russian Foreign Policy toward Missile Defense: Actors, Motivations, and Influence (Lexington Books, 2014), drawing on a huge array of media sources as well as interviews, she demonstrates how these policies serve as a barometer for measuring US-Russia and US-NATO relations, as well as how they illustrate the complex interplay of factions and forces among Russia’s elite. As relations between Russia and the West continue to worsen, a thorough examination of how BMD policies have affected both Russia’s relations with the outside world and served as a tool for domestic political considerations could not be timelier. What are Systems of Systems? Why are we interested in them? What about them vex us? These topics will be addressed in this overview talk along with emphasis on the analysis of vulnerabilities in SoS Architectures. Our particular work targets advancements in the modeling and analysis of System of Systems (SoS), in particular to support systems engineering activities associated with architecture design, evolution, and operational assessment. We analyze dynamic impacts of interdependencies and uncertainties inherent in SoS. We envision an analytic workbench (populated by a variety of analytical tools from several sources) that makes these analysis capabilities accessible to "SoS System Engineers" in tackling real SoS problems like Air Transportation and Ballistic Missile Defense.
