In the evangelical classic The Cross and the Switchblade, David Wilkerson tells the story of his ministry to a street gang and the dramatic conversion of Nicky Cruz, a knife-wielding teenage gang leader. About 20 years later Cruz himself wrote a book called The Magnificent Three in which he wrote, “Something has emerged in my walk with God that has become the most important element of my discipleship. It has become the thing that sustains me, that feeds me, that keeps me steady when I am shaky. I have come to see God, to know Him, to relate to Him as Three-in-One, God as Trinity.”He continues, “God is a magnificent Father. God is a magnificent Savior, Jesus Christ. But if it were not for the magnificent Holy Spirit, I would still be a wretched, hateful sinner! It is not enough to have a Father-God who loves and provides for me. It is not enough even to have a Savior who died for my sins. For any of those blessings to make a difference in our lives, there must also be present in this world that Third Person of God, the Holy Spirit.”We refer to the Trinity regularly. We confess our faith and are baptized and blessed in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but do you see this truth as magnificent? The Text: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love…” (1 Jn. 4:7-17)King's Cross Church is a member congregation of the CREC in Moscow, ID. Mary welcomes Thomas Littleton to this edition of SUFTT to talk about the descent into compromise over LGBTQ inclusion theology in conservative – yes, conservative – churches. Thomas Littleton is an ordained Southern Baptist minister and evangelist with over 4 1/2 decades on the streets of such places as New Orleans, Atlanta, and New York City (while in New York he worked with David Wilkerson’s Times Square Church, author of The Cross and the Switchblade). He has also done extensive outreach at America’s beaches, university campuses, and foreign fields of Eastern and Western Europe and Central and South America. He has a long history engaging the Arts and LGBT community through heading a Christian Arts based ministry in NW Georgia and worked on the front lines of the AIDS health crisis of the mid 80s and 90s. Littleton knows the origins, methods and goals of the LGBTQ activist movement and the faithful Biblical response for believers anchored in the power of the Gospel by the CROSS and resurrection of Jesus. We talk about his fight for truth over the last dozen years to hold high the standard of the gospel and the truth that can transform any sinner by the power of the Holy Spirit. Living missionally as a family starts with recognizing where God has placed you and being intentional in those everyday spaces. Whether it is running errands, attending playdates, sitting at sports practices, or connecting with neighbors, each moment becomes an opportunity to reflect the love of Christ to others. What if we began each day asking God for divine appointments and open hearts to the people around us?How can we model integrating our values and faith by demonstrating practical ways to serve, give, and engage in the needs in our community? As we live this way, we're also modeling faith for our children. They're watching us learn what it truly means to follow Jesus—not just on Sundays, but in the everyday rhythms of life. Living missionally doesn't require grand gestures; it simply takes hearts that are willing to be intentional, obedient, and led by the Holy Spirit right where God has placed us.Resources Mentioned in Today's Podcast-The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson-The Hidding Place by Corrie Ten Boom-God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew-Gifted Hands by Ben Carson-George Meuller the Guardian of Bristol's Orphans

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 4th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Luke 21:15. Jesus says: “…for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries (all your enemies) will not be able to contradict or resist.” He will give you the words to speak when it is needed. Don't worry about that. Now, remember the waiter, yes - his name was Stephen. He was confounding all the Pharisees with the word of God, and so they accused him of speaking evil against the Temple and against Jehovah. Acts 6:15: “And all who sat in the council, (they were judging him now) looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as the face of an angel.” I want to tell you something now. You don't have to defend yourself. You just have to spend time in the presence of Jesus and He will give you the words to speak to defend yourself. He will give you godly wisdom and counsel. And do you know what will happen? When you start speaking from your heart, it doesn't matter how clever your adversaries are, they will be confounded because that is what happened to the High Priests when they were judging Stephen. They saw him and his face looked like the face of an angel. The word of God is very powerful when it is spoken through the mouth of an ordinary person. Remember David Wilkerson, the Cross and the Switchblade? The skinny preacher who went down and started preaching to the gangsters in downtown New York? Nicky Cruz was the leader of the Mau Mau gang. David Wilkerson said to him, “Nicky, God loves you,” and Nicky said to David Wilkerson, “Preacher, get away from me, otherwise I will cut you with my flick knife into a hundred pieces.” And David Wilkerson says, “And Nicky, every piece will tell you the same thing, that Jesus loves you.” And with that, that hardened gangster just crumbled and David Wilkerson led him to Jesus.Do you know that the old gentleman is now in his eighties? He is still an evangelist, preaching the love of God. Don't worry about what you will say. Just love people, and the Lord will put the words into your mouth. It doesn't matter who it is.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.
Today's guest is fiery. And I have to thank Ian Ottaway for introducing me to her. Welcome Erika Switchblade from The Devils to the podcast. Erika is Italian, in southern Italy. International episodes are always interesting. And Erika sets expectations early. She's pretty sure this will be the worst podcast I've ever done. I disagree. Erika talks about the first song she ever remembers hearing, playing in her own bands by 14, and then getting kicked out of them. She met her current bandmate, Gianni Blacula and formed The Devils so they couldn't get kicked out of any more bands. They've been together for over 10 years and we talk about how the band has changed. We talk about the appearance of Mark Lanegan, the influence of Alain Johannes, and the importance of Magic Sam. Check out their latest album, Devil's Got It. It's a wild collection of blues and soul covers. Follow them on Instagram @thedevilsinsta. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on socials. Today on The Dad Whisperer I'm joined by Gary Wilkerson, president of World Challenge and son of David Wilkerson (who wrote, “The Cross and the Switchblade”). He vulnerably shares about being a public figure while navigating the journey with a wayward daughter. If you need a story of HOPE and RESTORATION, you'll love hearing Gary share about his daughter Annie as they're now "on the other side after walking through good and bad times.”
In 1973, David Wilkerson delivered what would become one of his most referenced and controversial messages, later known as The Vision. Speaking with pastoral urgency rather than sensationalism, Wilkerson warned that Western society was entering a period of moral collapse marked by financial instability, rising lawlessness, sexual confusion, and a church drifting toward compromise. He described economic shaking that would expose false security, alongside a culture increasingly hostile to biblical truth.Central to the sermon was Wilkerson's warning that judgment would begin in the house of God. He cautioned that many churches would abandon repentance, holiness, and the authority of Scripture in favor of comfort and popularity. Yet the message was not despair-driven. Wilkerson emphasized that God would preserve a remnant marked by humility, prayer, and obedience, and that revival would arise not through programs or politics but through brokenness and repentance.Wilkerson closed with hope rooted firmly in Christ, urging believers to stand unmoved, live cleanly, and trust God fully as the world around them grew darker. For listeners then and now, the sermon resonates less as prediction and more as diagnosis, a sober call to spiritual vigilance in an age of deception.Website: thefacthunter.comEmail: thefacthunter@mail.com

KnifeRights.org head Doug Ritter joins Cam to discuss the DOJ's recent court filing that claims "there is no constitutional right to carry concealed or inherently concealable weapons" in defense of the Federal Switchblade Act.
KnifeRights.org head Doug Ritter joins Cam to discuss the DOJ's recent court filing that claims "there is no constitutional right to carry concealed or inherently concealable weapons" in defense of the Federal Switchblade Act.
This week, we're taking a look at the state of knife laws across the United States. The Department of Justice recently made headlines, and garnered backlash, after it defended the federal Switchblade Act in court on the same day it filed suit against Washington, DC's "assault weapons" ban. To discuss the state of play in that case and against other switchblade regulations, we have Knife Rights Inc's founder Doug Ritter on the show. His group is responsible for the federal case and numerous cases against state laws around the country. Ritter described the way switchblades, often described as automatic knives and sometimes vaguely defined, are regulated. He said the federal Switchblade Act effectively, or perhaps ineffectively, bans most interstate sales of the knives as well as their carry in certain places. He noted several states go even further and ban their possession outright. In the case against DOJ, Ritter said his group is arguing that knives--switchblades included--are "arms" protected by the Second Amendment. He argued they fit the definition the Supreme Court has pointed to in previous cases and it makes little sense for the Trump Administration to argue AR-15s are protected by knives aren't. Ritter further criticized the way that DOJ defended the Switchblade Act. He argued the DOJ's logic, which centers on the concealability of automatic knives and their appeal to criminals, could be and has been used to defend restrictions on AR-15s or even handguns. He dismissed the historical tradition of regulating knives cited by the DOJ as too thin to stand. He also accused the administration of being schizophrenic on the Second Amendment. He went on to describe his group's strategy in challenging state knife restrictions. Ritter said they filed suits in multiple federal circuits, hoping to create a split that puts pressure on the High Court to get involved. Special Guest: Doug Ritter.
This week, we're discussing the seemingly contradictory gun litigation moves the Department of Justice (DOJ) just made. On the one hand, the DOJ filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit challenging Washington, DC's "assault weapons" ban. On the other, it defended the federal switchblade carry ban. To make sense of the two moves, we have Bearing Arms' Cam Edwards back on the show. Cam said he is impressed by the DC suit. He argued that the DOJ might have a better chance of getting the law struck down than previous challenges did. He also said it could even be a candidate for Supreme Court review, though he noted there are several other cases that are much further along in the process. However, Cam said he's disappointed by DOJ's defense of the federal switchblade restrictions. He argued the Trump Administration has been inconsistent on Second Amendment questions, and the latest moves show a continued dichotomy between how it treats state and federal laws. He said he'd like to see all approval on gun-related legal questions run through the DOJ's Civil Rights Division's Second Amendment Section. We also discussed the reason Cam agreed to be a last-minute guest this week: Grabagun cancelled their CEO's planned appearance on the show. The company attempted to restrict talk about their involvement with Donald Trump Jr. before ultimately deciding not to do the interview. Special Guest: Cam Edwards.

THE KEROUAC PROJECT: https://www.kerouacproject.org/JACK KEROUAC SCHOOL OF DISEMBODIED POETICS: https://www.naropa.edu/academics/schools-centers/jack-kerouac-school-of-disembodied-poetics/The thread of Jack Kerouac's literary and personal life in the American imagination might be unwound succinctly in the following terms: ambitious and fun-loving young man leaves behind his small-town upbringing to chase heroes and dreams in the American West, finding along the way new paths to enlightenment while blazing a trail for generations of seekers to follow. It is a theme familiar to most of us, because more than a few of our favorite novels embrace it. It is also, in the case of Kerouac, almost entirely a fiction. The man most associated with the peripatetic Beat Generation spent more than half his life in his hometown of Lowell, Mass., living with his mother. This master of the postwar American idiom grew up speaking the French dialect of his Canadian immigrant parents and actually attempted an early draft of On The Road (the book was eventually published in 1957) in the dialect of his Franco-American community. Despite the image of a modern spiritual seeker who eventually found a home in Buddhism, Kerouac was born and died a self-identified Catholic; and despite his iconic status as a chronicler of the road, the most prominent theme in Kerouac's novels is a mysticism of place.Kerouac's mystical visions had another specific theme—the crucifixion. In Maggie Cassidy, Christ speaks to him from a crucifix after confession:“My child, you find yourself in the world of mystery and pain not understandable—I know, angel—it is for your good, we shall save you, because we find your soul as important as the soul of the others in the world—but you must suffer for that, in effect my child, you must die, you must die in pain, with cries, frights, despairs—the ambiguities! the terrors!”The Autobiographical Novels of Jack KerouacVisions of Gerard (written 1956, published 1963)About Kerouac's saintly older brother, who died as a child.Doctor Sax (written 1952, published 1959)Maggie Cassidy (written 1953, published 1959)Youthful porchlight romancing in Lowell. The Town and the City (written 1946-49, published 1950)Vanity of Duluoz (written and published 1968)Kerouac's last published novel, a memoir of early days.On The Road (written 1948-56, published 1957)Visions of Cody (written 1951-52, published 1972)More about Neal Cassady. The Subterraneans (written 1953, published 1958)Kerouac's pathetic love story about a black girl who dumps him for Gregory Corso.Tristessa (written 1955-56, published 1960)Junkie prostitute girlfriend in Mexico. The Dharma Bums (written 1957, published 1958)Big Sur (written 1961, published 1962)Desolation Angels (written 1956-61, published 1965)Satori in Paris (written 1965, published 1966)

Switchblade 2—because who doesn't love a cyberpunk platformer where you single-handedly take on an evil tyrant with nothing but a questionable haircut and a gun arm! Is it a hidden gem, or just another relic of the '90s trying too hard to be edgy?
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 2nd of January, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of Matthew 6:8. Jesus said: “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” Now just before that, the Lord tells us that He is not interested in vain repetition when you pray, not fancy words. I love what C H Spurgeon says. He talks about “homemade prayers”. If there is one thing I really desire for you as we go into the new year, is that this year be a year where you learn to speak daily to the Lord Jesus Christ, prayers which come straight from the heart, speaking straight to Jesus Christ - no flowery Christianese, but honest day to day language. The Lord understands it, just that ordinary layman's language to a Carpenter, just tell Him exactly how you are feeling, tell Him how things really are, and ask Him to help you. It is not so much about the words even, is it? It is more about the heart of the prayer. We need to speak to Jesus through the Holy Spirit, just as you would speak to your workmate in the office, in the field, in the workshop. David Wilkerson, in his book, The Cross and The Switchblade, said sometimes, when he would pray the Sinner's Prayer with those young gangsters from the ghettos of New York, their vocabulary was non-existent. Every second word was a swear word and they prayed the Sinner's Prayer in blasphemous language, they were unaware of that, but their heart was pleading with God.I remember, just after I had given my life to Christ, we were sitting in a circle in a prayer meeting, probably the first one I had ever been to, and each one of us had to pray. The leader said, “Just pray” and we had never prayed out loud. The turn came to one old gentleman, his name was John, and I have never forgotten his prayer. His prayer came from the depths of his heart. He was in big trouble and he said, “Oh God, please help me!” And the Lord helped him. As you go into this new year, make prayer a priority in your life, every single morning and right through the day, and last of all at night, before you go to sleep. Speak to Him in homemade prayers.Jesus bless you and goodbye.

SKATE FAST TURN LEFT, 1min., USA Directed by Mary Hawkins Two friends, Fifi Fleshwound and Little Mary Switchblade, have a quick conversation about their roller derby years… http://tookaturn.com/ https://www.instagram.com/thngstookaturn/ Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? My friend Andrea came up with Things Took a Turn, and I'd wanted to submit ever since I'd heard about it. It's an animation anthology for women and gender minorities, and it just sounded like good weird fun… I told Fifi about it, since I'm not a writer-of-things and she is, and we chatted a bunch about ways to react to the prompt for that season: the End of the World. We'd meet in a diner, talk for about fifteen minutes about how we were going to approach the project and then veer off into old derby gossip. Eventually, I told her that we needed to nail things down and while we were at it… why didn't we make the film about us and our experiences. We'd been coming up with little fictional scenarios, but our actual experience was better and more interesting. We'd put years of work into roller derby. It's an all-consuming hobby and a really interesting community. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? I loved the reactions! People put so much love and thought into their feedback and I really enjoyed hearing what they had to say, especially since most of the people who've talked to me about my film have been people I already have a connection to, either because they're friends or also played roller derby or live in NYC. To see that total strangers were also interested in my film and really got what it was about really made my morning. My movie is only 45 seconds long. so nearly any description of the film is longer than the film itself. Jason also discusses popular media like films, novels, and magazine articles that led to ideas about who was using switchblades and how, creating a frenzy about teen gangs in the era.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 3rd of November, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Mark 14:11: “And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.” We are talking about Judas Iscariot who betrayed the Lord for 30 pieces of silver. You know, folks, when you are betrayed by someone you don't regard very much, it is painful, but it is not that painful, you kind of expect it, but when you are betrayed by someone who trusts you - and Judas was entrusted by Jesus to look after the money bag. He was from the inner circle. He was one of the twelve. That is why divorce is such a painful thing. When people don't regard you very much then it is not so hurtful, is it? But I want to tell you something now - when it is someone you love and you trust, then it is extremely painful. You know, when Judas Iscariot took the soldiers of the high priest into the Garden of Gethsemane in the darkness of night and betrayed the Master, he walked up to Jesus and he kissed Him. Folks, so painful, very painful! Maybe you are there today. Maybe someone has really hurt you and let you down. You need to stand because Jesus will never betray you. Do you remember that movie, The Cross and the Switchblade? There was a book written as well about that skinny preacher, David Wilkerson, who had a heart for the gangs in downtown New York. The leader of one of the main gangs was a man by the name of Nicky Cruz. He was the leader of the Mau Mau Gang, a fierce gang. His own mother called him “the son of satan.” He was an evil young man but he came to Christ. David Wilkerson preached the Gospel and he accepted Jesus, and one night he was tested. They had had a meeting in a movie house, or some place like that, and they took the collection and they asked Nicky Cruz to take the collection. Some of David Wilkerson's men said, “Don't let him do that. Don't trust him with that money.” David Wilkerson allowed him to take the collection. He went right down the aisles and then he had to go up onto the stage, behind the curtain and there was a door, an open door there. He could have run away with all the money, and then he had to come around the curtain and down the other side of the steps to collect the money on the other side, but he didn't run away. He carried on. That man has become one of the greatest evangelists of the modern era. Let's not betray Jesus today by selling Him for 30 pieces of silver. Let's be bold and stand up and say, “Yes, I am a follower of Jesus Christ.” Let us not turn our backs on Him. He has promised you and me in Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you and I will never forsake you.” He won't betray you.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
