Movie Meltdown - Episode 508 This episode we’re joined by special guest Tony Moore. Now you probably know Tony as the co-creator of The Walking Dead comic series. Or if you are more of a comic fan, you also may know his titles like Battle Pope, Fear Agent and The Exterminators. And of course, in recent years, you’ve seen his work as part of several huge series for some of Marvel’s biggest characters. But as usual, in our on-going series with artists, we’re going to start at the beginning and find out where Tony’s inspiration started, how it led to his success, and of course along the way… we’ll see just how the movies tie into his journey. And as we work as hard as we can to put the toys back in the box before we’re done, we also bring up… Saturday-morning cartoons, detail-oriented, the thrill of being legitimately disturbed by something I've watched, 28 Days Later, Image Comics, Batman Returns, this infinity of drawing space, Mad Magazine, we got a literal death threats over that book, instant access, Lobo, Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, teaching illustration principles, entomology, so we had all the monsters that live in the Marvel Universe are like huddled in the sewers of New York City, I don't remember a time, ever, in my life that I wasn't drawing, Deadpool, taking tests competitively, Dark Horse Comics, Rohs Opera House, X-Men, a comics version of Louis L'Amour, pop culture junkie, Rick Remender, hillbilly heathens, Spike Lee, Masters of the Universe, corporate comics, EC Comics, Franken-Castle, a presentation on The Body Farm, Vampire: The Masquerade and we’ll do this thing... it'll be offensive… we'll get famous... it'll be awesome. “I always say… it’s like we were standing in the ocean, holding a surfboard, and had no clue that the wave of a lifetime was right behind us.” For more on Tony Moore, go to: http://coloneltonymoore.com/

We start this Easter Edition of Books & Brews at Werewolf for brunch. We get our fill of grub and later drink some ciders from Serpentine a local cidery. Turns out Alan actually enjoys somethings but he does hate pandas. We discuss Battle Pope by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. Robert thought Alan was teaching his kids about Jesus when in fact Alan was discussing the almighty Optimus Prime. Find out what makes Alan sad. Second, we talk about Jesusfreak by Joe Casey and Benjamin Marra. There is a big split decision on this reading. Baby Jesus breaks Robert and Alan. We discuss our own religious backgrounds/beliefs and Alan talks about his blessed hands. We discuss our final reading which is Punk Rock Jesus by Sean Murphy.
This Week: We begin our month of Robert Kirkman Books with Battle Pope. It's the end of the world and few are worthy of passage to heaven, not even the Pope. God leaves behind Saint Michael, the leader of his army, to act as a guardian for the humans. He fails, and is held captive by Luicfer. God then enlists the aide of the Pope to rescue Michael, and leaves his son Jesus H. Christ to assist him in his quest. Next Week: Mark Grayson is just like most everyone else his age. He's a senior at a normal American high School. He has a crappy part time job after school and on weekends. He likes girls quite a bit... but doesn't quite understand them. He enjoys hanging out with his friends, and sleeping late on Saturdays... at least until the good cartoons come on. The only difference between Mark and everyone else is that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, and as of late, he seems to be inheriting his father's powers. Which sounds okay at first, but how do you follow in your father's footsteps when you know you will never live up to his standards? THIS ISSUE: Get in on the ground floor, because it all starts here! Strange things begin to happen to Mark Grayson as he begins to develop superpowers. Luckily, his dad is around to show him the ropes, at least he WOULD be if he weren't so busy saving the world all the time. Mark is forced to go out on his own, and try and figure out how all this superheroing business works. The results are a monumental disaster, at least until he gets the hang of it. Watch Mark thwart thieving super-villains, alien invasions and all sorts of craziness. Episode 134 - Battle Pope Out Now! On: ITUNES, STITCHER, GOOGLEPLAY, PODBEAN, YouTube, and TUNEIN
This Week: Jughead Jones has always had an insatiable appetite... but what if his hunger came from a sinister place? When a murderous menace is on the prowl, taking the lives of some of the most well-known and esteemed inhabitants of Riverdale, Jughead and his family's dark legacy comes to light. Join writer Frank Tieri (Wolverine) and artists Michael Walsh (Secret Avengers) and Pat & Tim Kennedy (Death of Archie) for this horrifying collection.
