Episode 190!? This week we are giving our thoughts on "Planetary"!  Lex is missing this week so Simon brought in some help. The wildly talented photographer, D Amazing stops by the show to hang out and talk comics. The creator of the acclaimed series TRANSMETROPOLITAN, Warren Ellis delivers PLANETARY, hailed as a timeless story that turned modern superhero conventions on their heads. This graphic novel features the adventures of Elijah Snow, a hundred-year-old man, Jakita Wagner, an extremely powerful woman, and The Drummer, a man with the ability to communicate with machines. Tasked with tracking down evidence of super-human activity, these mystery archaeologists uncover unknown paranormal secrets and histories, such as a World War II supercomputer that can access other universes, a ghostly spirit of vengeance, and a lost island of dying monsters. Collecting #1-6 and the PLANETARY PREVIEW Shout out to D Amazing for helping out this week!

We talk about some cool old 80's movies. And some bad.Paul played Zelda! The original, like for the NES. What was that like, and how much did he rely on the walkthrough guides to find that one secret entrance hidden in the woods? This allows us to discuss some of the virtues of Zelda as well.Sean touches on Zelda II, and how it captures the fun sense of exploration that the original had. Of course, Sean played that one because it was the Zelda he had as a child. That touches on our childhood experience versus our adult experience. Now, entertainment is so easy to get, we are certainly spoiled. We come to the painful realization that our experience isn't necessarily the best experience, and there are many other great experiences out there. For Paul, Ninja Turtles has shown this to Paul. For Sean, it is Star Wars. Finally, Sean read Transmetropolitan again, which was really good. He has also been reading a lot of Isaac Asimov, which is really good. Both of them, however, value truth and logic quite highly, in such a way that it points out how much our current society does not value truth and logic. It makes us sad.

--   Faça o curso do Leandro Demori:  https://t.me/joinchat/AAAAAEZgzce_5JloTHjETg   Faça o curso do Ivan Mizanzuk:  http://mizanzuk.com/curso-online-de-storytelling/  --  Nosso canal:   https://www.youtube.com/mimimidias   Redes sociais do mimimidias:   https://twitter.com/mimimidias/   https://instagram.com/canalmimimidias/  https://www.facebook.com/canalmimimidias/   Vem falar com a gente:    https://twitter.com/claramatheus     https://twitter.com/leo_bos    https://twitter.com/tavosmm

Brad spent Thanksgiving away from his family for the first time ever and didn't have turkey for Thanksgiving, dog sat a French Bulldog, went Black Friday shopping, found a cool Snitch ornament at Walmart. Ben celebrated the first annual Vince Guaral-Day, took his sister to The Last Bookstore, and finally stepped into the future with Amazon Prime (and Amazon Fresh) Hoai-Tran was surrounded by babies and dogs at her family Thanksgiving, and helped host her cousin's baby shower. Also went to her cousin's NY restaurant Di An Di, which is currently leading the Eater NYC Restaurant of the Year poll. What we've been Reading:Jacob dipped his toe back into Transmetropolitan. What we've been Eating:Peter ate a bunch of bad food while off his diet. At Friendsgiving he tried Ben and Amy's Shaqaroni and Cheese but fell in love with pumpkin pie dip and the very dangerous Caramel Apple Sangria. I also waited three hours in line for Howlin Rays. Jacob ate two Thanksgiving dinners and made peanut butter pie that he didn't get to eat. Brad was introduced to the majesty of the Tim Tam Slam, tried Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, and had Indian food that he didn't hate. Hoai-Tran learned how to make pho in her new instant pot! What we've been Playing:Peter played some tabletop games on Friendsgiving and a game day, including Werewords, Hail Hydra, Detective, and Chameleon. Jacob played more Diablo III and Rogue Legacy. The School of Everything Else Archive

[School of Everything Else 2017] This is a Vertigo comics series which ran for 60 issues from 1997 to 2002, written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Darick Robertson.  It is set in a non-specified future where cities stretch out across the planet, filled with bored tech-fetishists all looking for the next distraction. Spider Jerusalem is an infamous gonzo journalist who returns to the otherwise unnamed "The City" to write some books and newspaper columns after years of hiding in a log cabin up a mountain. This is a book that was hugely influential on me, and while the retro-future it predicted was off the mark in many cases, some of it is so sharp that it's going to hurt to listen. There's blasphemous and depraved content within so you have been warned. Alasdair Stuart of The Escape Artists joins us to talk about all things Spider in this commissioned show courtesy of Ciaran Dachtler.  Guest: Alasdair Stuart of Escape Pod

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for your weekly visit from the doctors! This week on the show the Two Guys with PhDs review two new titles. First, they look at the latest in Titan Books' Simon and Kirby Library series, Simon and Kirby: Horror! This beautiful volume collects all of the Black Magic and The Strange World of Your Dreams (Prize Comics) stories that Joe Simon and Jack Kirby had a hand in, in one form or another, published between 1950 and 1954. Many of these comics have been collected before — for example, DC's brief reissuing of Black Magic between 1973-1975 and Craig Yoe's The Strange World of Your Dreams collection that came out last year — but this is the first time all of the Simon and Kirby contributions have been brought all together and in chronological order. As Andy and Derek point out, there's some wonderful stuff in this collection, macabre stories in the vein of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone and the creepiest of Hitchcock. Next, the Two Guys turn their attention to issue #1 of Trees, written by Warren Ellis with art by Jason Howard. This is an intriguing first issue, one that teases…but in a good way. The guys are particularly pleased with this latest effort from Ellis, in that they've been wanting more original and ambitious (and non-mainstream) stories from him, as demonstrated in Transmetropolitan, The Authority, Planetary, and Desolation Jones. They feel that Trees promises to follow in this tradition.
