In today's captivating episode of "Anthology of Horror," we ventured deep into the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry to unravel the chilling legend of the Boo Hag. This journey took us through the eerie folklore of the Gullah culture, where tales of night riders and spectral witches have been passed down through generations. We explored the origins of this fearsome entity, a creature that preys on the vitality of the unwary, leaving behind nothing but a husk of their former selves. Our exploration was not just a history lesson but a collection of bone-chilling tales that brought the Boo Hag into the modern world. From tragic love stories entwined with horror to sinister tales of vengeance and survival, we peeled back the curtain on this nightmarish figure, revealing the terror that lurks in the shadows of the Lowcountry. We also took a moment to highlight some must-see content from our network, including "Demented Darkness" and "Dark Side of the Nerd," both hosted by Scary Jerry, as well as "Foxhound43" on Rumble. And for our listeners looking to wear their fears, we announced the upcoming release of Death Valley Man shirts, a direct response to your requests. As we conclude this episode, the haunting melody of "Son's Gonna Rise" by Citizen Cope carries us out, leaving us with a lingering sense of unease and the unshakable feeling that the stories we've shared tonight are just the beginning. Until next time, stay curious, stay cautious, and keep listening to "Anthology of Horror."Support the showYe olde march shop https://www.aohpmerch.com/s/shopDemented Darkness https://open.spotify.com/show/2ausD083OiTmVycCKpapQ8Dark Side of the Nerd https://open.spotify.com/show/6cwN3N3iifSVbddNRsXRTuFoxhound43 https://rumble.com/user/Foxhound43

According to Gullah folklore, the swamps of the Lowcountry are home to a mythical creature who is said to sneak into the homes of its victims while they sleep and then suck the life force from their breath. The creature, known as the Boo Hag, is described as a large, hideous creature with no skin and glowing red eyes. It is said to be able to change its shape, making it difficult to track or identify. The Boo Hag is also said to be very strong and can easily overpower its victims. Join us as we explore this infamous creature, the culture that spawned it, and, of course, the ways you can protect yourself from it! The Boo Hag is a Haint or evil spirit that sheds her skin at night to suck the blood of her next victim. This folktale originated with the Gullah people of African descent living in the Southern United States. In this episode, we'll dive into the mythology, discuss the origins of this creature, and how the belief in haints has influenced the colors of porches and homes in the South. Union County was rocked by the news of two missing children back in 1994. The story would continue to shock the state of South Carolina and the rest of the country when it was announced that their own mother was being arrested for their murder. Susan Smith became infamous as her story continued to fall apart. She rolled her car into John D. Long Lake with her two children strapped inside. According to authorities, this was a result of extramarital affair with a man who didn't want children. Plus, if you tuned in for my Halloween Minisode Countdown, you'll remember some urban legends like The Third Eye Man, the Boo Hag, and even my first episode on The Lee Country Lizard Man. But the list continues to grow for urban legends around South Carolina. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/support
Time to wrap up our time here in North Carolina and what better way to do that then with a story. This week I'd like to tell you about a vampiric cryptid that has been haunting the lands since the 1500's. There have been stories told about a predator that hunts at night in search of human victims. No amount of security could prevent this cryptid from getting into your house and trying to steal your soul and not only that, it'll even take your skin as a prize if given the chance. For this week's episode I'd like to introduce you all to the Boo Hag. Enjoy!
The Boo Hag. A Strange vampire like hag from the folklore of the Gullah people on the South Eastern Coast of North America.

Can you believe we're 50? Who knew that Robin and Zoey had enough energy in them to make 50 episodes and not miss a single Tuesday. Well, our path is still in the beginning and we're thankful for every single listen. To celebrate being 50, Robin and Zoey share the mediums - stories that are too long to be a Something Something, too short to be a full episode, but just right amount of interest! Robin tells us about The Brown Mountain Lights, Lydia's Haunted Bridge, and the Face in the Courthouse Window. Since it's Zoey's episode, she brought 6 stories: Bloody Bones, Annie Christmas, Murder Kroger, Eliza Battle, the Talking Eggs, and the Boo Hag. No Something Something this episode, but our hosts do enjoy a drink called Transfusion by Durty Girl, a cocktail in a can made in Georgia. Not sponsored, but boy would we be happy to be. Thank you again for 50 amazing episodes!Sources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2022/03/08/ep-50-a-collection-of-southern-folklore/
