Everything comes to he who waits... That was the case for Brandon Austin who, after spending the best part of 17 years at Totttenham Hotspur, was finally granted his first team debut at the weekend. The soon-to-be 26-year-old acquitted himself well in the defeat to Newcastle, earning the Man of the Match award on TNT Sports and giving Ange Postecoglou something to think about ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool. Elsewhere, Matz Sels is perhaps the surprise package of the season in the Premier League. The Belgian leads the way for top-flight clean sheets following his blank in Nottingham Forest's 3-0 win over Wolves. In the EFL, Illan Meslier is feeling the heat at Leeds, Joe Whitworth provided an assist in Exeter's defeat to Bolton and Ben Amos returned to league action for the first time since April 2023.
It's the first episode of 2025, but the 2024 vibes are unfortunately lingering. Dare we look ahead to brighter days? Not 'til February at the earliest if we're honest. Nevertheless, we persist. Rosa and Lauren are joined by debutant, Conor, as they exhume another loss, rage over unconscionable officiating, and salute Brandon Austin's actual professional debut. There are new signings for the men and women, and two cup games against Merseyside opposition to preview (and that's all we're going to say about THAT). Plus! Conor and Lauren share their cultural highlights of 2024. Happy new year, everyone! May it bring us better COYS days, eventually. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, TV Producer/Director/Writer Simon Yemaine and Marlon Via Spurs Kings TV as Alexander Isak continued his magnificent scoring run as Newcastle came from behind to inflict another home defeat on Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham and stretch their winning run in all competitions to six matches. The visitors came into Saturday's Premier League game in scintillating form but fell behind after just three minutes when Pedro Porro's in-swinging delivery was headed in by Dominic Solanke. However, Anthony Gordon restored parity two minutes later, firing low past Spurs' debutant goalkeeper Brandon Austin into the far corner in front of watching England manager Thomas Tuchel. Spurs were adamant Joelinton should have been penalised for handball in the build-up to Gordon's goal, but the officials deemed that the contact with Lucas Bergvall's pass was accidental and that the Brazilian's arm was in a natural position. Isak dragged a Jacob Murphy cross off target shortly after the half-hour mark but made no mistake from a similar position moments later, slotting home after Radu Dragusin had deflected another Murphy delivery into his path. The Swede becomes the third Newcastle player to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches, after Alan Shearer in 1996 and Joe Willock in 2021. Tottenham improved after the break and almost equalised 10 minutes into the second half, but Brennan Johnson struck the woodwork from the tightest of angles after Martin Dubravka had kept out Pape Sarr's effort from outside the box. Second-half substitute James Maddison curled an effort narrowly wide of the far post and Sergio Reguilon lashed a shot off target late on, but there was no way back for Spurs as Postecoglou's team slumped to a fifth home league defeat of the campaign. Orlando City is playing games! The Lions kicked off their preseason schedule with a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union. We’re here to tell you what we know about it, which honestly isn’t much more than you probably already knew, but we’re discussing it anyway, because why not? Alexander Alvarado was the offensive hero for the Lions and Brandon Austin saw his first minutes with the club. MLS announced the home openers for every team and the Lions will kick off the season against Atlanta this year, which is new. Orlando will also be at home on opening day, which is not new. There will be a familiar face on the other bench for that match as Alex De John has joined the Five Stripes after bailing on Pittsburgh (we kid, we kid). We also talk about the reports that Orlando City turned down a hefty $10 million offer for striker Daryl Dike and what that means for the club, as well as where the Lions will turn for goals without the league’s top rookie from 2020. Also, Pato has arrived and Silvester van der Water should be coming along soon. The Orlando Pride won both of their preseason matches this past weekend, and we discuss the 2-1 victory over Florida State and the 4-0 win over Flagler College. The Pride are working their way toward the NWSL Challenge Cup and it’s good to see the team starting to come together and the players you expect to see scoring goals actually doing that. Inter Miami filled its USL affiliate’s coaching staff with former Orlando City personnel and it’s starting to look a bit more than coincidental that so many ex-OCSC folks are ending up in South Florida. We talk about what Diet Orlando City has been up to but we can’t really tell you why. This week’s mailbag had a question about former Orlando players and whether they could have excelled under Oscar Pareja if he’d been the coach back then. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 237 went down: 0:15 - The Lions won their preseason opener, Orlando City thinks highly of Daryl Dike, and a couple of young players are competing for an Olympic spot. 34:24 - The Pride went 2-0-0 this weekend and what in the world is Inter Miami doing? 55:38 - The mailbag is curious about former Lions who didn’t pan out in Orlando. We’re back with another off-season show. It feels a bit weird to us to have more than one in an off-season month, but we’re getting used to it. This week’s show kicks off with discussions of the latest Orlando City news, as we break down the MLS SuperDraft, the addition of goalkeeper Brandon Austin on loan from Tottenham, and the MLS dropping some key dates, including opening weekend. The Orlando Pride continue to make off-season moves, and we’ll tell you about the latest ones — namely, the signings of Jordyn Listro and Phoebe McClernon. The Pride roster is beginning to take shape. Speaking of the Pride, we are joined by the team’s new general manager, Ian Fleming, who talks to us about a variety of topics, including his philosophy of improving the team, the use of NWSL Allocation Money, the status of the still-unsigned players (and those who chose to finish their seasons in England), his first NWSL Draft with the club, and more. We thank Ian for being so generous with his time and so informative about the goings-on with the Pride. We then turned our attention to the U.S. national teams, with the women recently completing a pair of friendly wins over Colombia at Exploria Stadium. Pride defender Ali Krieger took part in the second of those victories on her club’s home pitch. It made for a nice warm-up for next month’s SheBelieves Cup, which will also take place at Exploria. After that, we discuss the four Lions who made the roster for the USMNT’s friendly against Trinidad & Tobago on Jan. 31 at...you guessed it, Exploria Stadium. We talk about who we think will get minutes and what Gregg Berhalter and Chris Mueller had to say from the U.S. camp on Monday. The mailbag was a bit light again this week but we give our responses to questions about the Pride’s back line and what might happen on the second season of Ted Lasso. It turns out we spend way too much time thinking about fictional team AFC Richmond. But you probably already knew that. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 230 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City’s SuperDraft haul and what I saw when I watched some of them on YouTube, plus a new goalkeeper arrives from the EPL, the Pride sign a couple of young players, and more. 25:35 - We pick the brain of Pride GM Ian Fleming. 47:04 - USWNT and USMNT talk — heavily skewed towards Orlando — and our mailbag asks us about one of our favorite subjects, Ted Lasso. Brandon Austin, flounder of Go Fish Cam, and Adam Kahn, Sheephead of Operations of Go Fish Cam, talk about the Austin-based startup's growing market for its underwater cameras. Unorthodox Ventures, a venture capital firm and business incubator started by Carey Smith, founder of Big Ass Fans, acquired Go Fish Cam in March of 2019. It's one of the first investments Unorthodox Ventures has done. Go Fish Cam is now working out of the same offices as Unorthodox Ventures and working to expand its market. Meanwhile, the cameras are not only being used by anglers worldwide to help them catch big fish, but the U.S. Navy Seals are using the cameras to detect underwater mines.
Some companies have a more difficult time getting funding that others. Maybe you’re a founder of a CPG company. Or maybe you’re a founder who lacks a technical background or a technical team. If that’s you, you know that it can be a little trickier to get the funding your business needs to keep growing. We’ve been talking a lot about this lately. So, today, we’re focusing on another type of company that can also struggle to get funding: consumer hardware products. Brandon Austin, Co-Founder at GoFish Cam, came on the latest episode of the Austinpreneur podcast to talk about his company, how they used Kickstarter to prove demand — and eventually secure the funding they needed, and how they’re fitting into the Austin ecosystem. His story demonstrates that even when it’s tricky, you can still rise above the challenges to secure the funding you need.
