The boys are getting beyond hyped for the nearing fantasy hockey draft on the horizon in the NHL world. Meaning Flip and Steele begin their division by division breakdown of all the teams across the NHL. Kicking things off with a fantasy hockey preview of the Pacific Division and the top pieces you need on your team. Likely, the Pacific Division is the easiest to predict in terms of outcomes in the standings, but there still leaves a ton of intrigue in terms of fantasy hockey talent. Looking at such players on the rise as Eeli Tolvanen of the Seattle Kraken and of course, Matty Beniers who should see his numbers increase across the fantasy board. You should also be paying attention to what should be the top-3 teams in the Pacific Division. The Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, and L.A. Kings will be the top three teams that makeup the top of this division. 21 months later, we ask who is winning the Jack Eichel trade? Eichel was traded to VGK from Buffalo in exchange for Alex Tuch and Payton Krebs, plus each team received draft picks. Tuch wound up with 78 points last season including 35 goals. Krebs is a project and he scored 26 points in 74 games. Eichel is still hoping for a breakout season in Las Vegas. If he hadn't won a Cup with VGK, this would probably be an even trade. Over 600 fans voted and 97% said VGK has won the trade already, but mostly based it on the Golden Knights and Eichel winning the Stanley Cup. Eichel took just three shots per game and has turned into a solid two-way player. He also played a career low 18:46 minutes per game. Jack Eichel said on the Missin Curfew podcast last week that the Wives and Girlfriends (WAGS) of VGK players got a little ahead of themselves when they started to plan for a victory celebration before Game 5 of the Western Conference Final against Dallas. He said planning was already starting for the players and where they would celebrate. "They were saying "are we gonna do this or that after the game." It might have been a distraction as VGK lost to Dallas 4-2 and the series shifted back to Dallas. "That stuff kinda bothers me. Let's focus on winning" Eichel added. He said when the Golden Knights were ready to wrap up the Stanley Cup series against Florida in Game 5, he told the team: "I don't want to hear a word about what's gonna happen after this game until Game Five is over." He told the team to worry about taking care of business and then they could celebrate with a win. Eichel also talked about how close his team was, saying "you get to the point where you care about the guy next to you more than yourself." Also on the show... Appearing on the Cam and Strick podcast this week, VGK head coach Bruce Cassidy said Jack Eichel winning the Stanley Cup should elevate his game and career. Cassidy said Eichel's two-way game improved a lot this past season. Eichel was told by Cassidy that he would play fewer minutes before the season, due to Cassidy's system and a system that rolls four lines. Eichel gave up a lot of his minutes and his offensive game to become a better defender. Cassidy added that Eichel needs to improve in some areas, including the faceoff circle where he won just 45% of his draws, if he wants to win the Selke Award. Eichel also might earn some minutes this season on the penalty kill. Cassidy also said he 'did cartwheels" when his former employer, Boston, was eliminated in the playoffs. He talked about Chandler Stephenson being one of the most underrated players in the league, and Ivan Barbeshev's playoff contributions. During Jack Eichel's Day with the Cup last week, he met with the media and spent most of his time praising head coach Bruce Cassidy. Eichel said VGK would not have won the Cup without Cassidy . "What Cassidy did for me and our group, it was the reason we won," Eichel said. Furthermore Eichel's dad said Cassidy made his son a complete 200-foot player. He said Cassidy did a "tremendous job, a great job with Jack." Eichel could have a big season in 2023-24 because he has a consistent skating line and knows what is expected from Cassidy. One win away from the hoisting the Stanley Cup and the city of Las Vegas is about to erupt. There are a lot of distractions for the team including a party outside City National practice arena on Monday. VGK enters Tuesday's Game 5 needing just one win to be Cup champions. The Golden Knights come off Saturday's nail-biting 3-2 win over the Panthers. Cassidy wants his team to focus when they get back on the ice Monday. VGK almost blew a 3-0 lead on Saturday as the Panthers came back and made a game of it. VGK's Chandler Stephenson scored twice and William Karlsson added what turned out to be the game-winner in the second period. The game got ugly after Adin Hill stopped Matthe Tkachuk on the doorstep as time expired. There was more than one fracas and Florida fans littered the ice with rats and other objects. We talked about Chandler Stephenson who scored for a third time on an opponent's line change in the playoffs. Stephenson scored in Game 2 vs Dallas, in the opening game vs Edmonton and in Saturday's game when Aaron Eckblad left the ice and no one filled his spot in front of goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Stephenson got the VGK on the board in just 1:39 into the game. We discussed the toughness of Jack Eichel, who was hit in the neck by friendly fire off Jonathan Marchessault's stick. Eichel later returned to the game. VGK is winning the battle of attrition in the series as Tkachuk and Anthony Duclair are injured and several other Panther players are suffering through some minor injuries. The Golden Knights won a "man's game" Monday night according to Bruce Cassidy. VGK overcame another penalty-marred physical contest and increased its lead over the Panthers to 2 games to none in the best-of-seven Cup Final. Cassidy said "if you have to take a punch to the face, so be it," while speaking about the physicality of the series so far. He is pleased with his club's ability to stay away from retaliating to a lot of the Panthers hits. The biggest hit of the series came when an off-balance Jack Eichel was rocked by Matthew Tkachuk. Eichel was shaken up on the play, he admitted he toe-picked and was tired at the end of his shift. But he saw the freight train coming. Eichel returned to the ice in the third period and had an assist on Jonathan Marchessault's second goal. Brett Howden also had two goals for VGK. Florida's Tkachuk scored his first goal of the series, but he and the Panthers are concerned about slowing down VGK's offensive "juggernaut" as he called the Golden Knights offensive explosion. The Golden Knights have nine different goal scorers through two games, a Cup Final record. 13 VGK players had a goal or an assist on Monday night. The series shifts to Florida for Game 3 on Thursday.
