The only thing a true crime aficionado loves more than justice is when beloved Dateline host Keith Morrison calls BS on a lying criminal. To their face! You'll get plenty of the later and some of the former in this Spring Broke installment of Christopher and Eric's True Crime TV Club. Keith even asks the FBI some hard questions. In 2009, the disappearance of teenager Brittanee Drexel from a crowded Myrtle Beach sidewalk made headlines around the world. In episode 12 of season 31 of DATELINE, entitled “The Last Walk”, we travel the years of false leads, dramatic twists and outrageous lies that led from that rowdy Spring break evening to a jail cell in rural South Carolina and a confession that feels half-baked at best. Plenty of people failed to prevent this awful tragedy, and Christopher and Eric have plenty to say about all of them — but maybe not as much as Keith!

It was a mystery that took 12 years to solve. In April 2009, 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel headed to Myrtle Beach with a group of older friends for spring break. The trip wasn't going well--she wasn't getting along with the people she was traveling with, so she spent much of the first day texting her boyfriend back home. But when the text messages suddenly stopped, the boyfriend panicked. You see, nobody knew Brittanee had made this trip--her parents had forbidden it. And now she was missing, having left very few clues as to what happened to her. It would take over a decade to find out. LOOKING FOR MORE TCO? What started out as a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach turned into a missing person investigation of teenage girl from Rochester, NY. It would be over a decade before the family of Brittanee Drexel would finally get some answers. A crime solved and a killer sentenced, all because he finally confessed. Then, by day, Poinsett Bridge — one of the oldest bridges in the whole state of South Carolina — offers a quiet, remote setting amidst the mountains of northern Greenville County for relaxing and exploring. But by night, the bridge becomes the site of seemingly unexplainable paranormal activity. And later, we've had our fair share of cryptids and urban legends in this state, such as the Hound of Goshen and The Lizard Man. But can we now add Bigfoot to that list? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scspookshow/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scspookshow/support
Nowhere will you find more opportunities for disaster, than on spring break. A place with beautiful warm weather, water, and copious amounts of alcohol that attracts thousands of young adults every year. Spring break destinations have disproportionately high rates of human trafficking , DUI deaths, and incidents of alcohol poisoning, rape and illicit drug use. They can be very dangerous especially if your guard is always down. In the United States, these trips are projected as a right of passage when your passage is not yet complete. Holly and Leslie both have stories to offer on this topic, so we thought a story swap would be the best way to approach it. This week Holly tells us about the disappearance and tragic murder of 17 year old Brittanee Drexel. In April of 2009 Brittanee snuck off with some acquaintances to Myrtle Beach SC for spring Break . Her parents had forbidden her from going on this unchaperoned trip, but just like many teens in her situation do, Brittanee found a way to get there in secret. Sadly she wouldn't make it home alive. Brittanee's disappearance baffled law enforcement for over 13 years before her case was solved, and in the process it and launched a protracted witch hunt for one innocent man Validate Us: WWBD Merch Shop Buy us a cup of validation WWBD Official Soundtrack, Vol. 1 WWBD Official Soundtrack, Vol. 2 Shadows of Christmas (WWBD Christmas Album) Sponsors Shore Soaps Try Audible Plus Give the Gift of Audible! You cannot tell the story of Brittanee Drexel without telling the story of Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor. Law enforcement came tantalizingly close in 2011 to arresting Brittanee Drexel's kidnapper and killer, but local investigators were unable to put the last few pieces of the puzzle together at that time. Years later, a fantastical story from a questionable source drew attention away from the real suspect. Suddenly Tim Taylor and his family found themselves trapped in the python-like squeeze of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. And it wasn't the first time something like this happened to their family. In this episode, join host Anne Emerson for Part 2 and more of our exclusive conversation with Tim Taylor and his mother, Joan. Keith Morrison reports on the 2009 spring break disappearance of 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel, whose murder would take 13 years to solve.
It's been more than a decade since a 17-year-old New York girl disappears during a spontaneous Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Now, Brittanee Drexel 's remains have been found and her killer has confessed. Drexel was last seen on video after she walked out the Bar Harbor hotel near downtown. She texted her boyfriend that she was returning to her hotel and was never seen again. Convicted sex offender Raymond Moody was first questioned about the girl's disappearance when Drexel when missing. Police searched Moody's residence but found nothing to link him to the crime. Technology advance in the years since rekindled suspicions that Moody was the killer and he has pleaded guilty to the charges of murder and first-degree sexual misconduct. He has been sentenced to life in prison. Brittanee Drexel was a seventeen year old girl who loved to have fun, and so when she was offered the opportunity to leave behind the wet and gray Spring weather of her Upstate New York hometown and escape to the sandy beaches and sunshine of South Carolina with her friends, it was no wonder that she took it. But she had done so without the permission of her parents, who were concerned that if Brittanee traveled to a different state without adult supervision, she might encounter danger, or get into trouble. But, the lively teenager had already made up her mind, and she was committed to spending Spring Break away from the stress and worries of her life, which is why she climbed into a car on the evening of April 22nd, 2009, leaving it all in the rearview mirror and driving towards the promise of fun and sun, not knowing that something far darker awaited her down south, because Brittanee Drexel was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for just sixty hours before she vanished off a busy road, never to be seen alive again. And what followed would be over a decade of fear, sadness, confusion and frustration from her family and community, before a recent break in the case revealed what had happened to the energetic teenager who had just been looking for a few days of fun.
