Shaun Brian Sells started life in a two-person tent surrounded by plantation ruins in the flats of Coral Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands. It was in that environment where his love for cooking began– by roaming and foraging through the valley, fishing off his dad's sailboat and cooking for up to eight siblings at a time. Those challenges became the source of his inspiration. At Cudaco on James Island, SC, he brings that inspiration full circle, celebrating sustainable seafood practices and the creativity of the kitchen. Cudaco is part seafood market, part wine shop, part catering, and part casual restaurant with my favorite fried fish sandwich in town and also caviar in the cooler. Shaun's passion is educating guests about lesser known seafood species and how to make them delicious, and since he also serves the wholesale community, his seafood shows up on some of the best Charleston tables too. Shaun was named one of Zagat's 30 Under 30, he's an alumnus of the James Beard Foundation's Boot Camp for policy and change, and a former Senior Chef on the US Virgin Islands Culinary Team.

No Luke for this one because Mike ran late at work. You get Steve & Govier this time around. Where was cocaine use at in the 1950s? We got your emails! Joe checks in with some possible show title replacement options including a classic crack about Luke's movie passion. Steve has a reminder about the incredible resourcefulness of your local public library. The Trip starring Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon never gets old for the fellas when it comes to Anthony Hopkins & Michael Caine impressions. Mike's first job ever was at a bowling alley & golf range fun place where he had ot be at work picking up golf balls at 6AM. Finn Gurrer emails in to ask which one you got: one bourbon, one scotch or one beer? George Thorogood style. The word is out that there are plenty of micro plastics floating around in the testes of male humans & dogs as well. Welcome to hell. Ticketmaster & Live Nation are finally having their monopoly challenged by the federal government. Eddie Vedder is celebrating today! The guy from Band of Horses is from James Island in the Charleston South Carolina area. Steve has a classic tale about drinking with that dude one night long ago with friend of the show David. Mike is then reminded of when some bars in the Charleston area were open until 5AM which is a terrible idea. Braid & Minus The Bear show tales ensue as well. Steve & Mike recall the summer adventure of witnessing major league baseball underachiever Yoan Moncada live at the Charleston Riverdogs minor league ballpark back in 2015. Steve's frustrated about the foul call disparity in every NBA playoff series the Indiana Pacers are involved in this playoff season. Lastly, Steve shares the name of a fella who is paying attention to how lame Bill Simmons has become now that he's a lazy millionaire. We love you all! This talk show is not the same without you listening and emailing us your highly entertaining thoughts. We close the show with May 16 by Lagwagon. Joey is a Pastor at Seacoast Church, the last 13 years at the James Island location, much of that time getting to know Jonathan Peace, our drummer. After years of being embedded into the church community and developing many friendships including with Joey, "Peace" finally tells the story of his first "gig" at Seacoast on a Sunday morning after a full night of booze and smoking cigarettes, tips dipped in cocaine. He had a "magical experience" playing his first worship service at his new church home (to say the least). Co-host Jed Payne (with plenty of past drug use himself), Joey and Jonathan discuss different angles of drug-use from a moral perspective and explore lots of theological speculation about God and the afterlife. Jonathan's view of God is greatly informed by a time at the beach when God's hand pressed and held him to the ground, speaking through his heart and body for hours. He's can't unsee what he saw about the spiritual realm that night [and if we're comparing], giving him a much more "progressive theology," at least in the technical sense. Enjoy these conversations? The reason why you'll rarely see modern Christians on the political Left or Right have constructive conversations around politics or social issues - despite claiming a shared faith, tradition, and epistemology - is that we are already so comprehensively formed by our ideological narratives and so woefully underformed or selectively formed by our theological narratives, and it is narrative more than anything else that gives individuals the lenses by which we see the world. This means then we can only be genuinely surprised, and often outraged, that this "other" kind of Christian has the gall to even exist. If life is a story, they are like poorly-written characters inserted to disrupt the satisfying plot of our existing narrative, and we resent them for ruining our story. -- Rev. I sat down with my wise and thoughtful friend Katie Ashley, another Charleston, SC local, to hear her takeaways from the seasons and cycles of the past few years as I know she is someone who embodies the #ItsAllMeMindset beautifully. Katie brings her lived wisdom to this conversation and shares it through her unique lens of her therapeutic yoga training and Chinese medicine, plus her personal experience with surfing. In this episode, we talk about: The cycles (or cyclones) of being a woman, mother or entrepreneur How Katie keeps herself at the center of her life's experiences. #itsallmemindset Earth lessons, samskaras and giving ourselves grace to be in the process How we were both reluctant nature lovers
