Influential filmmaker, music video director, and innovative kid's TV show creator Scott Stuckey is our guest. Grandson of the originator of Stuckey's, the 60s yellow-roofed, highway, pecan praline and gift shop franchise, Scott is quite the successful entrepreneur as well. Born in Eastman, Georgia and relocating to Washington, D.C., where his father W.S. Stuckey, Jr. was a Congressman for 10 years, Scott was attracted to the fledgling punk music scene, forging friendships that would affect his future in the film and music industry. While living in Athens, Georgia, he recorded bands in his home studio, working on projects with R.E.M. and Vic Chessnut. In 2003, he created Pancake Mountain, a music based, cable-access children's show that became a public-access cult classic featuring guests like The White Stripes, Eddie Vedder, Kings of Leon, Katy Perry, Bright Eyes, Shirley Manson, George Clinton, Chuck Leavell, and actress Juliette Lewis. Beyond those achievements, he directed music videos for Chessnut, Widespread Panic, and Garbage, to name a few. While visiting family in the Golden Isles, Something In The Water cohost, Sean Clark, made his acquaintance, leading the two to work together on a Pine Box Dwellers music video for “Devil's Den”, an original song cowritten by Sean and Uncle Dave Griffin, which made its internet debut two days ago. https://youtu.be/esl-hSEWzsI?si=7JRJU1LMkI-cZFf9https://www.facebook.comcautionlightmedia/https://www.instagram.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/https://www.facebook.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.comhttps://somethinginthewater.captivate.fmhttps://www.patreon.com/somethinginthewater

"Phish's Chicago Adventure: Unpacking the Three-Night Run"Larry Mishkin talks about his experience at a recent Phish concert in Chicago. He mentions the uniqueness of this Phish show and focuses on their cover songs, specifically mentioning their cover of Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" album and the way Phish adds their signature jamming style to it. Larry also discusses a rare cover of Neil Young's "Albuquerque" and the joy of seeing a band like Phish covering classics. He mentions the fan culture at Phish concerts, including the prevalence of nitrous oxide vendors in the parking lot. He shares his experience over three nights of the concert and highlights the setlist from each night. Larry also talks about Phish covering Little Feat's "Spanish Moon" and its significance, given that it's a rarely played song by Phish..Produced by PodConx Deadhead Cannabis Show - https://podconx.com/podcasts/deadhead-cannabis-showLarry Mishkin - https://podconx.com/guests/larry-mishkinRob Hunt - https://podconx.com/guests/rob-huntJay Blakesberg - https://podconx.com/guests/jay-blakesbergSound Designed by Jamie Humiston - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-humiston-91718b1b3/Recorded on Squadcast Phish Weekend in ChicagoOctober 13 – 15, 2023United Center Today is the Phish covers which were spectacularPlay amazing covers by incredible artists – sometimes they dig deep into the other performer's catalogue to pull out rarities. Beautiful Neil Young tune from Tonight's The Night released in 1975The song sees Young returning to a theme that has filled his music from very early on: the vapidity of fame. It's something he seems to struggle with even more than most other musicians. Or, at least, it's something he's chosen to sing about more often than most. It may in fact be the most common theme of all his music, besides obvious stuff like heartbreak and love.In "Albuquerque," Young is thinking about renting a car and driving from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Santa Fe, just to be alone and "independent from the scene." He never tells us why he's in Albuquerque to begin with, but he does tell us he wants to roll a joint and rent a car and stop to eat some "fried eggs and country ham."The "country ham" bit is kind of interesting, because country ham is a food popular in the southeast, not so much in the southwest. It's probably just a simple oversight on Young's part, but it may also reveal another common thread in Young's music: the escape into rural simplicity as a cure for the craziness and fakeness of modern day life.Phish first played this song on July 26, 1998 at the Starplex Amphitheatre in Dallas, TX.Played a total of 17 timesLast played on June 11, 2011 at Merriweather Post Pavillion outside of D.C., gap of 457 shows SHOW #2: Spanish MoonPHISH : Spanish Moon : [LITTLE FEAT] : {4K Ultra HD} : The United Center : Chicago, IL : 10/15/2023 - YouTube:50 – 2:05October 15, 2023, Second set out of Pebbles and Marbles and into A Wave of Hope Little Feat cover, one of their most popular tunes. From the album, Feats Don't Fail Me Now, released in 1974 "Spanish Moon" was written and sung by guitarist Lowell George, who was a creative powerhouse in the early years of Little Feat. The song is about a fictional place called the Spanish Moon - a seedy club with whiskey and bad cocaine, but a girl singer that made it worth it. There are many dangers at the Spanish Moon, but the ones likely to do you in are the women.Lowell George was an excellent storyteller and created the Spanish Moon from his imagination, but he lived through the vices he describes in the song, especially cocaine. Around this time, his addictions were starting to overpower him, his health started failing, and he developed hepatitis. Feats Don't Fail Me Now was the last Little Feat album where he was clearly the leader; his contributions to the band slowly tailed off, and in 1979 he released a solo album. While on tour supporting it, he died of a heart attack at 34. It was written by John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant. The song became a centerpiece at all Led Zeppelin concerts thereafter, until their final tour. It appears in both the film versions and both live album versions of The Song Remains the Same, released in 1976 and expanded in 2007. It appeared once more in 1994 on Page and Plant's reunion album as the title track. It also appears on Led Zeppelin's 2012 live album Celebration Day, which documented their 2007 reunion performance at the O2 Arena in London. It was re-released on the deluxe edition of Houses of the Holy. The title is derived from the military practice of showing no mercy to a vanquished opponent and from the brave act of not asking for mercy when vanquished. This theme is captured in several of the song's lyrics. Like "Immigrant Song" two albums prior, it evokes imagery from the Vikings and Norse mythology, with lyrics such as “the winds of Thor are blowing cold.”Record producer Rick Rubin remarked on the song's structure, "It takes such confidence to be able to get really quiet and loose for such a long time. [Led] Zeppelin completely changed how we look at what popular music can be." This was one of the new songs that he introduced at the festival, after which the guitarist was eager to perfect a studio version. Hendrix recruited bassist Billy Cox, who had played with him while they were in the army and his drummer friend Buddy Miles, for a new ensemble, Band of Gypsys. They recorded this as the B-side to his "Stepping Stone" single for Reprise, but it was quickly pulled after Hendrix complained about the mix. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, released on Exile on Main Street (1971)Exile on Main St. has grown to be appreciated with time, and this is an example of a song that become more popular later on. In a 2003 interview, Mick Jagger explained: "On the Forty Licks tour, when we were preparing the set list for a show in Yokohama, Chuck Leavell suggested we play 'Loving Cup,' the ballad from Exile on Main St. I didn't want to play the tune and I said, Chuck, this is going to die a death in Yokohama. I can't even remember the bloody song, and no one likes it. I've done it loads of times in America, it doesn't go down that well, it's a very difficult song to sing, and I'm fed up with it! Chuck went, Stick in the mud! so I gave in and put it in the set-list. Lo and behold, we went out, started the song and they all began applauding... Which just proves how, over time, some of these songs acquire a certain existence, or value, that they never had when they first came out. People will say, What a wonderful song that was, when it was virtually ignored at the time it was released." >> Phish debuted the song on February 3, 1993 at the Portland Expo in Portland, MaineInteresting because they did eventually cover Exile On Main Street as a Halloween musical costume on October 31, 2009 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA, part of Phish Festival 8.Clearly one of their favorite covers, and a crowd pleaser, played 148 times.Last played before this show on August 5, 2023 at MSG, gap of 13 shows
This week we have a world famous musician, Mr. Chuck Leavell. While he's been the keyboardist for The Rolling Stones for 40 years and now the musical director, he was also with the Allman Brothers in their heydays in the 70's. There are too many more musical accolades to list. You may be wondering why we had him as a guest? Let us tell you – Chuck has a diverse chunk of land in central Georgia that he manages for wildlife, but he is also a vocal advocate for trees and sustainable forestry and has also authored several books on the subject. He has received numerous related awards including the National Tree Farmer of the year, and believe us, he is well versed when discussing the importance of trees and their management. It has been Dudley's goal to have him on after watching the numerous PBS shows and the documentary “Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man.” It's refreshing. April 1st, 2023 Segment 3 Over 100 years ago, 25% of our natural tree canopy in the eastern United States was made of by the American Chestnut tree. These were trees that were used by people for buildings & food & by wildlife for food & shade. These trees grew to be large & were perfect for picnics & resting during travel. Now they are gone due to a blight that infected them in the early 1900s. Over the past century over 4 billion of them have been killed. However, The American Chestnut Foundation continues to work towards breeding a version of the American Chestnut that can withstand the blight. Doug Gillis, from TACF speaks with the Carolina Outdoors about the DARLING 58. This tree that utilizes traditional breeding, bio-technology, & bio-control, to withstand the blight. Gillis also let's us know about Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut. This documentary featuring Dolly Parton, Chuck Leavell, & President Jimmy Carter delves into this heritage tree & the fight to bring it back is being released on Earth Day, April 22, 2023.
In this episode I will be talking to bass legend Nathan East. The man has played with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Barbara Streisand and Stevie Wonder, to name just a few. The reason I've set up this conversation is because I'm trying to speak to as many people directly involved in the legendary Eric Clapton MTV Unplugged album. Nahtan played upright and acoustic bass and sang backing vocals on this album. In the fall of 2023 I will be paying a tribute to this album in theaters throughout the Netherlands and Nathan's story will be part of that story. Just like the story of guitar player Andy Fairweather Low and piano player Chuck Leavell. What an amazing guy Nathan is and I am honored that he took the time to talk with me about this life changing album. Enjoy the conversation I had with Nathan East! In this bonus episode I talked to Eric Clapton's pianoplayer Chuck Leavell about his memories regarding Eric Clapton's legendary Unplugged album. This fall I'm playing in Dutch theaters with an hommage to the iconic Eric Clapton MTV Unplugged album. In my preparations for this tour, I'm making a series about this legendary album by talking to the people involved. What was it that made that album so special and the best selling live album of all times? For this episode I've talked to Chuck Leavell, Clapton's pianoplayer about his time in Eric's band and his memories about the unplugged tour. Also we talk about the last Rolling Stones tour and touch on some more subjects. Throughout the summer, we are developing a brand new podcast with a new name and a new sound that will launch in late summer. In the meantime, we'll be revisiting some of our favorite shows from our first four years while still keeping you up-to-date on things to do in and around Atlanta. This week, we'll hear an interview with Chuck Leavell from November 2021. As the de facto music director of The Rolling Stones during the last 40 years of touring, Georgian Leavell not only handled keyboard duties, he frequently took charge of the music on stage, as a sort of conductor. In performance he kept in eye contact with the late Charlie Watts, since any signal by the music director has to be telegraphed by the drummer. They had a unique relationship and the loss of the legendary drummer hit him hard. But the show goes on and The Rolling Stones, and Leavell, performed at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Nov. 11, 2021. Bo Emerson spoke with Leavell about the Stones and about his tree-farming life just outside of Macon and we'll hear that conversation on this week's podcast. Two-time Grammy winning bassist Oteil Burbridge has been in the music business touring and recording for over three decades. His first step into the national spotlight came in 1991 when he became a founding member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit featuring Col. Bruce Hampton, a cult classic that has stood the test of time. That led to his membership in the classic rock group The Allman Brothers Band. Since 1997, his work with the band has earned him two Grammy nominations for best rock instrumental, in 2003 and in 2004. Over the years, Oteil has shared the stage with rock and blues legends such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Billy Gibbons, Chuck Leavell, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Johnny Winter, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow and Trey Anastasio. In 2012, Oteil received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his 15 year contribution to the Allman Brothers Band as the longest running bassist in the band's history.

She received her Artist Diploma from the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University where she studied with Becca Albers and Hsin-Yun Huang. She currently lives in New York City where she is a Master's Degree student at the Juilliard School studying under Carol Rodland. Some performance highlights from her time at McGill include playing a concert with clarinetist David Krakauer in a program of Klezmer music, being selected to perform a chamber work by John Rea in a concert presented by the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) alongside Schulich faculty and students, and participating in the 2018 Musical Chairs Chamber Music Festival, where she collaborated with students from the Mozarteum (Austria) and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore). During her time at the McDuffie Center for Strings, she performed alongside faculty members of the Cavani and Ehnes String Quartets. In 2019, she also performed in “A Night of Georgia Music,” a tour of the American South with violinist Robert McDuffie, guitarist Mike Mills of the band R.E.M., and pianist Chuck Leavell of the Allman Brothers Band/Rolling Stones. Noémie has spent her summers at music festivals such as The Music Academy of the West, Sarasota Music Festival, Orford Musique, The Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance (LAMP), Scotia Festival of Music, Manhattan in the Mountains, and Green Mountain music festivals. While Ms. Chemali was a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, she played under the baton of esteemed conductors Larry Rachleff, Stéphane Denève, Gustavo Dudamel, and James Conlon. While at Sarasota Music Festival, she served as principal violist of the festival orchestra under the baton of Jeffrey Kahane and performed in a faculty concert as a member of a quintet with bassoonist Frank Morelli. She has, throughout the years, participated in various masterclasses with artists such as Joseph Silverstein, Ida Kavafian, Cynthia Phelps, Karen Dreyfus, Richard O'Neill, James Dunham, Jutta Puchhammer, and the Pacifica String Quartet. Passionate about diversifying musical audiences, she co-founded the Hildegard Project, which aims to bring music written by women composers to women's shelters in the greater Montreal area, and was invited to speak about her work at the Classical Evolution/Revolution Conference in Santa Barbara, CA. Most recently, she founded Music@Daybreak, an interdisciplinary performance and research project which features performances at homeless shelters in collaboration with the Sociology department at Mercer University. Noémie is the recipient of a Juilliard Career Grant, George J. Jakob Global Enrichment Grant, and Gluck Community Engagement Fellowship. In August 2022, she will be releasing Opus 961, her debut album of music written by contemporary Lebanese composers.
I am Steven Phillips with Lake 97.7 WJUL Radio. I do a live talk show every morning from 8-9 eastern time called “The Morning Dish”. I won the 2017 and 2020 best On-Air Personality of the Year for the state of Georgia. Our station is rated #1 five years running and my show is the biggest and at 9 years, the longest running show in the North Georgia and Western North Carolina mountains. With the Nielsen ratings in this year 23,900 out of 88,700 total people listen to us each week. That's amazing, considering how many people listen to satellite or internet radio and don't listen to AM/FM. I have interviewed lots of people in these 9 years. It is more comedy than serious; we like to call it “unfair and unbalanced”.Some of the people that I have interviewed are Mark Farner, Paul Roberts (Sniff “n” the Tears), Tommy Emmanuel, Chuck Leavell, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Paul Teutul Sr, Matt King, Stuart Margolin (Angel Martin on Rockford Files), Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke), Charles Bernstein, Scott Innes (the official voice of Scooby Doo), Markos Papadatos, Josh Morningstar, John Schneider, Barry Corbin, Rodney Justo, Barton Gilliam, Reno Collier, Adam Boyer, T Graham Brown, Jon Reep, Brande Roderick, Georgette Jones, Cindy Wills, Thomas Gabriel, Bo Hopkins, Don McLean, Ronnie Millsap, Kyle Bush, Dean Miller, Gigi Garner, Sonny Sawyer, Whitney Miller, James Gregory, Gary Chapman, Sid Davis, Paul Thorn, who regularly calls into the show and some people we would be ashamed to mention and the list keeps growing. It is a good time with dedicated listeners. You can listen in live every morning at wjulradio.com or listen to past shows on the YouTube Channel “Steven Phillips with The Morning Dish”.
Hello once again everyone I'm your host Ray Shasho and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends. Brought to you by The Rock Star Chronicles Series One my new book featuring over 45 intimate conversations with the greatest music legends the world will ever know. Available now at bookbay.com and amazon.com. You know him as the legendary violinist, vocalist and frontman for the band KANSAS, recording 9 albums which reached gold, platinum and double platinum status, and is now making another mark on the world with his first and only solo album. The new album, Not in Kansas Anymore is a powerful, well thought-out offering of Prog Rock magic. Timely songs with incredible arrangements and virtuoso performances. Robby's vocals and signature electric violin come through on this continuous work labeled a “Prog Opera”. The album, produced by our guest today, Michael Franklin, is his latest production since the highly acclaimed Jon Anderson 1000 Hands Chapter One. Franklin used a similar approach using a large cast of renown musicians to lend their talents. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Steve Morse of Deep Purple/Dixie Dregs, Billy Cobham of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Bobby Kimball of Toto, Chuck Leavell of The Rolling Stones, Liberty Devitto (Drummer on Billy Joel's hits), Jim Gentry, Pat Travers, Patrick Moraz, and many others including Orchestra and Choir. Steinhardt was in a reborn state of mind in the months prior to finishing the record. He and wife Cindy were looking forward to a new chapter in their lives. He had started rehearsals and was preparing to hit the road in August when he became ill in May. Robby's musical vision, voice and violin lives on with his first and only solo album, Not in Kansas Anymore! Release was delayed due to Steinhardt's passing July 17, 2021. Legendary Rolling Stones and Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell joins John Landecker to talk about the ongoing Rolling Stones tour, the passing of Stones drummer Charlie Watts, and the reception from fans across the country.
As the de facto music director of The Rolling Stones during the last 40 years of touring, Georgia's Chuck Leavell not only handled keyboard duties, he frequently took charge of the music on stage, as a sort of conductor. In performance he kept in eye contact with the late Charlie Watts, since any signal by the music director has to be telegraphed by the drummer. They had a unique relationship and the loss of the legendary drummer hit him hard. But the show goes on and The Rolling Stones, and Leavell, will be performing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Nov. 11. Bo Emerson spoke with Leavell about the Stones and about his tree-farming life just outside of Macon and he'll bring us that conversation.

Born in Jesup, Georgia, United States, Bramblett studied religion and psychology at the University of North Carolina, with the objective of entering the seminary. However, finding inspiration in the music of James Taylor, Carole King, and Bob Dylan, he abandoned his theological studies and pursued songwriting, soon moving to Athens, Georgia. After establishing himself as a session musician in the early 1970s, recording with artists like Gregg Allman and Elvin Bishop, Bramblett toured with bands such as the Gregg Allman Band, Sea Level, Widespread Panic, and Traffic. Bramblett, along with Chuck Leavell, has been credited with giving Sea Level, described as "a jazz-influenced spinoff from the Allman Brothers Band," a new, unique direction. Bramblett has been described as an outstanding lyricist and vocalist. The songs he wrote during his time with Sea Level have been described as "philosophical, despairing soul and funk tunes and rockers. As of 2017, Bramblett has recorded a total of fourteen albums, with the first two, That Other Mile and Light of the Night, issued by Polydor in the 1975 and 1976, and multiple albums in each succeeding decade. Bramblett's 2001 album, No More Mr. Lucky, features Bramblett playing the Hammond B-3 and saxes. Tracks on that album has been described as rich, funky, hip, and raw.In 2015, Bramblett released Devil Music. The title track was inspired by the story of Howlin' Wolf trying to reunite with his estranged mother, who had abandoned him for "playing the devil's music
In this episode we chat about some crazy Dr. John moments from both Brian and Chuck Leavell, and the story behind the good luck charm Brian wears during every show. We get into The Allman Brothers and the tragic passing of Duane Allman and in contrast, we hear the full, and hysterical, version of the time Brian did not get the gig with Tina Turner, as well as one of Brian's most embarrassing moments playing under the Eiffel Tower. We also touch on Chuck's side job as a tree farmer that just earned him a national award and documentary film that features interviews with over 80 musicians with a combined 58 Grammy Awards. Just as he was contemplating if music was the right path, Chuck reveals how his 30 year gig with The Rolling Stones came in the nick of time, as well as the most embarrassing moment of his career while on tour with Eric Clapton. Chuck takes us back to how he got his start with The Allman Brothers, how Dr. John's voodoo magic may have brought him years of good luck and ends with a hysterical conversation in the gym with Paul McCartney. “A Night of Georgia Music” continues a collaboration between Mike Mills, bassist songwriter and co-founder of R.E.M.; Chuck Leavell, former member of The Allman Brothers Band, now the music director and keyboardist for The Rolling Stones; and Robert McDuffie, violinist and founder of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University. They will be performing at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 29, but first they stopped by On Second Thought .
Rolling Stones guitarist, Keith Richards, once commented about their longtime keyboard player, Chuck Leavell: “Without the continuity that Chuck brings to us, the Stones would not be the Stones.” Leavell describes his role with the band as a “sort of musical navigator” who keeps track of arrangements and keeps things balanced in addition to spicing up the music with his keyboards. And as you would imagine, there's more to Chuck's artistry than his work with the Rolling Stones, who by the way, are in the middle of their No Filter tour right now.I managed to catch up with Chuck Leavell in between gigs to talk about the Stones, Eric Clapton's unplugged album, his work as a writer, and his definition of success as an artist.
