This is what happens when we haven't caught up in a while and don't have a topic planned. We hope you enjoy our chat today, we talk food, cottage cheese getting out of it's scope of practice by pretending to be a wrap and then go off on many tangents. This is the butter chicken recipe Meg loves even more than 'the one in the book' and this is the braised fennel recipe that was Meg's favourite thing this week, just amazing with grilled lamb (cutlets or chops) dusted with Chinese 5 spice and a little salt. Susan also mentioned the delicious slow cooked brisket. Title of today's episode taken from Adam Buxton's excellent podcast and Films to be Buried With and No Such Thing as A Fish are also podcast's that we love. We are opening doors to The Non Diet Way in August, we've had to delay by 2 weeks but it's coming! Keep an eye on your emails for more details. This episode we do a quick recap (masking was good, cosplay was light, Marvel was interesting, IDW was innovative, and DC is copying what Marvel's doing AS USUAL) before spoiling all the things about the Peaky Blinders finale and Russian Doll season one. (We haven't watched season two yet. No one is surprised.) Along the way we also gripe about Stranger Things, congratulate Lore Olympus, and comment on how difficult it would be to see the pretty waterfalls in Yosemite when it's currently ON FIRE. This week's outro is a clip from Another-Day by Ketsa. Absolutely all of our San Diego Comic-Con 2022 coverage can be found here. https://pixelatedgeek.com/tag/sdcc-2022/ Correction: Elizabeth mentioned the amazing 2014 Secret Wars event. She meant 2015. It's our Not About The Weather 2021 retrospective, and we are going all-in with our biggest pop culture hype and gripe of the year. Ariana, Brittany, Natalie and Karen are all here to decompress. Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest are both heavily featured, with a shout out to Dickinson as well. No, we are not shills for Apple, yes we will become so if ever they want us to be. That platform is creating a lot of great work right now. Ariana takes us through her hype regarding this year's wonderful coming of age portrayals for teenage girls, and Brittany rekindles her long-lost experience with live music. In terms of gripes, we have a powerful and wide ranging slate of things to complain about. Brittany is concerned that America's sweetheart Steve Kornacki is being used and abused as a gimmick (Let Steve Be Steve!) and Karen is disappointed by the Melissa McCarthy movie Thunder Force, which should have been brilliant but just... wasn't. Natalie feels that while the final season of Brooklyn 99 was, in many ways, very meaningful and very conscious, it betrayed Jake Peralta at the close, and Ariana simply feels that the way people engage in fandom just isn't fun any more. As well as our year-end hypes and gripes, the group reflects on their experience of 2021 at work and at home, and assesses whether this year was, at the end of the day, a good or bad one for them personally. Results are mixed. And a great Question of the Day sparks a fantastic discussion about all the performers who shone for us this year like never before. Be sure to stay tuned for the post credits addition. ("Nooooooooowen Wilson.") Welcome back if you're a return listener to this soundcast. If this is your first time in, welcome as well to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, where we offer you a weekly tasting platter of comedy soundcasts from around the internet for your ears. Bite-sized little clips that will, hopefully, tempt you to seek out the shows we're featuring in their entirety. I'm your host for Episode 274, Marc Hershon, but to keep up the frenetic pace of putting out a weekly show, I split the hosting duties by switching off weeks with Mr. Tyson Saner. And if you didn't catch last week's entry, Epi273, in which Tyson featured clips from Amazing Pop Culture Podcast, Life is Short with Justin Long, and WTF with Marc Maron. Don't despair, as you can still catch the episode on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, and wherever fine soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded. You can also grab it from our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where we have stockpiled our past 10+ years of comedy soundcast clippery and also interviews we have done over the past decade. Just a quick reminder that Tyson and I are currently (and always have been) clipping and presenting this array of soundcast snacks out of the goodness of our hearts. We so far have failed to lure any sponsors to this show, other than our freeloading fake advertiser Henderson's Pants, and it actually costs money to put this sucker out every week. We're not complaining – we love doing this – but what would be so super nice of you would be if you could show your appreciation for our efforts by rating and reviewing Succotash Show wherever you happen to be getting it from. A quick five stars, a couple of lines about how enchanting the show is – you're in, you're out, no one gets hurt. Thanks in advance – we really do appreciate your listenership and we hate to beg, but hey… I've got a full rack of clips to share with you this week, from comedy soundcasts For What It's Worth, Storytime with Seth Rogen, How to Survive! with Danielle & Kristine, and Movies to Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein. In addition, this episode is brought to you by Henderson's Pants new Beavertail Pants! CLIPS What Are You Watching?I'm going to kick things off with a special bonus clip! What makes it special? Well, I'm in it. That's right. It's me being featured as a guest on another soundcast. Hosted by past Succotash guest and friend of the show Chris Mancini, What Are You Watching? is Chris and a guest talking about what they're watching, mostly on TV but sometimes movies, too. So we've had Chris on, we've featured his soundcast, so all it took was a little begging and pleading to be invited to be the guest for his recent Episode 50. It was a nice change of pace to be the interviewee, and we had a great time talking about a bunch of shows. The clip is from our discussion of the Hulu/FX streaming show Y: The Last Man. Movies to be Buried With with Brett GoldsteinIf you're a fan of Ted Lasso, the big breakout hit on Apple TV last year starring Jason Sudekis – as I am, regardless of the pounding it's been taking from people this season – then you probably also love the character of Roy Kent. Portrayed by Brett Goldstein, Roy's a foul-mouthed contentious veteran footballer who becomes a foul-mouthed, slightly less contentious coach in Season 2. Brett started out as a staff writer on the show who lobbied Sudekis and the producers to let him play Roy and wouldn't you know? The guy's perfect. What I didn't know of, I'm ashamed to say, is that Brett is also a comedian and, what's more, has been hosting more than 160 of episodes of his own comedy soundcast called Movies To Be Buried With, with Brett Goldstein. He brings in a guest, explains that they've been killed in some manner, but the good news is that they go onto an afterlife where they get to explain their life through their favorite movies. Episode 121 featured guest Patton Oswalt and, as you can imagine, hilarity ensued. We have an ear peek for you… How To Survive! with Danielle & KristineNext up is a clip from the debut episode of a brand new comedy soundcast: How To Survive! with Danielle & Kristine. Every episode features hosts Danielle Koenig & Kristine Kimmel doing their best to help you figure out how to “survive the things that could kill you and the stuff that just makes you wish you were dead.” In their kickoff installment, it's how to both survive a wildfire and also, with the help of their comedic actress friend and guest, Alex Alexander, how to survive being fired. Our clip is from the first part, and jumps into what you should do if you're at home and can see a fire coming… Storytime with Seth RogenWe've clipped another soundcast that just kicked off  in recent weeks: Storytime with Seth Rogen. Seth has a very funny and creative mind, and this is a pretty inventive show, with guests popping in an out as he unfolds someone's story that intersects with other people and becomes their story along the way. In his first episode, the story belongs to Quinta Brunson, a writer, producer, comedian, and actress. You may know her from her self-produced Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. But before she got into showbiz, she was a Jehovah's Witness, living a pretty buttoned up lifestyle. Until she was on a date in Phildelphia and happened to meet Paul Rudd, yes, that Paul Rudd, at the movie theater she was in. The impact of that encounter changed the course of her life. Our clip is from Seth's chat with Paul Rudd, who doesn't recall his encounter with Quinta, but does explain why he's so damn nice to people. For What It's WorthMurray Valeriano is a comedian and longtime soundcaster – you maybe heard his show Road Stories, where he chatted with fellow comics about mostly hell gigs – and we've met repeatedly during the five-year-run of the Los Angeles Podcast Festival. He has a new-ish soundcast up and running, which I reviewed last week for This Week in Comedy Podcasts for Vulture.com called For What It's Worth and, as Murray calls it, “the only music and comedy game show … that matters!” It's a fast-paced game show with a lot of opportunities for the comedian contestant to bust each other's (and Muraay's) chops while trying desperately to correctly answer music trivia questions. This clip is from a recent episode featuring Jimmy Pardo, Gary Brightwell, and Geoff Tate, and the opening round, called “The Rock Wall”. That's what you're going to hear, and a few other little odds and ends, on Succotash Epi274. Here's hoping you enjoy our clip harvest for this week, and that you are inspired to go listen to one or all of the shows we're featuring this week. If you're having trouble remembering the show titles or where you can find them, I invite you to slide over to our blog page for this episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where you'll find lovely little clickable titles for the show AND clickable Twitter or Instagram links for the folks involved in the soundcasts. Tyson Saner will be right in this same feed next week with Episode 275 which will likely have a new crop o' clips for you. In the meantime, try to treat everyone you meet decently, wear a mask if you're supposed to, vax if you haven't, and if anyone asks if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

It's National Senior Citizens Day! To all of our elder listeners, we salute you. Rob leads the charge in a love fest of the Ted Lasso Holiday episode. Pete has some follow-up enthusiasm including this EW video in which Brendan Hunt covers the off-side rule with Brett Goldstein, and this Variety video in which we learn that Juno Temple is a tiny cucumber with anxiety along side the incredible Hanna Waddingham. Oh yeah, and if you want to check out a dose of Brett Goldstein's early stand-up, why don't you check out this video from his performance at Richard Sandling's Perfect Movie? And did you know he has a podcast? A MOVIE podcast? It's called "Films to be Buried With" and it's worth checking out.Pete loves CODA. He likes Beckett. Kyle watched Vivo with his kiddo and found his new favorite Miranda tune.We also have a bit of news following up on the South Park deal and how Trey Parker and Matt Stone just made $900 million. And yes, they did buy Casa Bonia. We did a bit deeper on the Ayer cut of Suicide Squad, and the value of dropping additional cuts of existing movies. Is the Snyder Cut reproduceable? Should every big film get a do-over? Tip of the hat to Brett Goldstein's Films to be Buried With.  We borrowed his structure of an interview on film based around the premise that the subject has died and is looking back on their favourite flicks.  We in turn asked one another a series of questions about the films that make us who we are.  So join us on this trip at times nostalgic, sometimes regretful, and listen as we learn a bit more about one another.  Part one of two episodes.

This week, we Trek Out CBS CEO Joe Iannello's take on ViacomCBS going forward. Then Michael Dorn talks about Star Trek: Worf, Something good FINALLY comes from “Omega Glory”, and “Galaxy Quest” gives US a Birthday Present In Star Trek Online and gaming news, we look at Star Trek Online's UI changes, in-game build testing, and Romulan ships for EVERYONE! In gaming news, another Scopely expands, and our favorite Star Trek ships go Crypto. If that wasn't enough, Dr. Robert Hurt drops by to expand our brains in his newest Astrometrics Report! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages  This Weeks COMMUNITY QUESTIONS are: CQ: With “Star Trek: Picard” set to air next year, how would you feel about another Next Gen spin-off, specifically “Star Trek: Worf”? AND CQ: What do you think of Star Trek Online opening up Romulan starships to the other factions? Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan CBS CEO Joe Ianniello Talks about the Future Following last week's news of a CBS-Viacom re-unification, CBS CEO Joe Ianniello sat down with the LA times to talk about his place in - and the direction of - the newly merged ViacomCBS. LA Times Staff Writer Stephen Battaglio asked how the 51 year-old-Iannello was able to guide CBS through the tumultuous departure of former-CEO Les Moonves. Iannello's response sounded very PIKE. “The most important thing is you have to listen and you have to be decisive in what moves you make. In the middle of all of this what I would say is, forget about what you think you know. Go around, meet the people and listen. Take a deep breath and go with your gut.” In regards to the push-and-pull of exclusivity vs. distribution, Ianniello discussed ViacomCBS' approach “I understand the tension between the two. But what I would say is we kind of have the best of both worlds where we're able to redeploy licensing dollars into more content. We want to put enough content in there to make sure we're driving subs. With “Star Trek” internationally we licensed the first series to Netflix and the second one to Amazon. CBS All Access will be the only place to get all of [the “Star Trek” series], so it does differentiate us among its competitors.” Michael Dorn's “Worf” Pitch Isn't Dead and Buried With excitement for “Star Trek:Picard” reaching fever pitch, it could be easy to forget about an older “Next Generation” spin-off pitch - Michael Dorn's “Worf” series. But fear not, the Star Trek alum will NEVER let us forget. Speaking at Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dorn discussed his proposed addition to the Star Trek mythos “I wrote it in 2012-13, and it's been going like this: a lot of interest, no interest, a lot of interest, no interest ... A guy who was a producer at this one place that I was pitching it came up to me before the meeting and [said], ‘I gotta tell you, your character meant so much to me' ... It fits so well into this new Star Trek universe. It just fits right in there. We'll see.” Fellow TNG co-star and long-time friend of Dorn - Marina Sirtis - added her thoughts, saying “I read [his pilot script] and I called him up and said, ‘How did you do that? He had all the action stuff minutely detailed … I was very impressed with my best friend.” Prop Store To Auction Spock's TOS Uniform If you're interested in television and movie props, or you're just a trekkie with some money burning a hole in your pocket, then we've got a story for you! Film and TV memorabilia company, Prop Store, will be hosting “one of Europe's largest and most exciting Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auctions across two days at the ODEON BFI IMAX in London, September 30th and October 1st 2019”. Nine-Hundred lots of iconic pieces of film and television memorabilia will include Michael Keaton's Batsuit from Tim Burton's 1989 “Batman”, Jack Torannce's “Hero Axe” from Stanley Kubrik's “The Shining”, and Spock's Screen-Matched Uniform from Star Trek: The Original Series! The blue science uniform was screen-matched to Leonard Nimoy's Spock costume in The Original Series season 2 episodes “The Omega Glory” and “The Ultimate Computer” - which first aired March 1st and March 8th of 1968, respectively. The uniform is estimated to rake in anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 pounds - or about 61,000 to 85,600 US dollars. If you are in the area of Waterloo, London, England, you can check out the available lots at the BFI IMAX from 10:00am to 9:30pm, September 18th to October 1st. Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Shane Hoover Upcoming Patrol User Interface Last week, on the Ten Forward weekly community live stream, Ambassador Kael and UI Artist Jo Gianulis gave players an introduction to the forthcoming Patrol UI. The new Patrol UI will be presented as a new tab on the Operations UI alongside TFO, PvP, and Private operations. Players will be able to directly launch any Patrol mission directly from this UI, regardless of their Sector Space position, and will be returned to their starting position when the mission is completed. Patrols are designed for single player action, though they'll support a full team, with no wait for queueing. Just click ‘Launch' to immediately get into the mission. The new system will come with five brand new Beta Quadrant patrols and five pre-existing Delta Quadrant patrols. More of the many existing patrols will be added quickly post-launch. The new Beta patrols are tied to the new Awakening story line surrounding the Mycelial Network and Spore colonies. And for the completists among us, new Accolades will also be introduced with the new system. Test Your Build on Tribble at Starbase 234 According to STO's recent blog, “Starbase 234 has been rebuilt from the ground up to once again serve as a training ground for Alliance starships. This improved Starbase makes extensive use of holographic technology to allow captains to engage in simulated combat in a wide variety of situations.”  What this news means for players is a built-in mission that allows them to choose their own combat challenge, specify desired difficulty, and get real-time feedback from STO's own combat parsing functionality. At least for now, the entirely new system will be available only on Tribble via interaction with the Tribble Test Vendor on Drozana Station. Starbase 234 will offer no mission rewards, but presents a unique opportunity to test builds and measure combat effectiveness against a variety of enemies and situations. New Romulus Command Decides to Share the Love After teasing the change in a recent fiction blog, Cryptic announced last week that “[Romulan] leadership has decided it's time to return the trust that has been shown to them, and allow their trusted allies the opportunity to test out their Singularity technology and specialized ship”. Nearly all Romulan ships that were exclusive to that faction will become available to Starfleet, KDF, and Dominion Vanguard captains. The captains need only have completed the Tutorial and, if applicable, advance to the 25th century. If you've been waiting years to put your Federation Captain in command of a Scimitar, well now's your chance! Event UI - Prelude On Tuesday, August 27, the Star Trek Online team officially announced their newest UI update: The Event Rewards Tab.  In a post, written by UI artist Joanna Gianulis, it was stated that “The Events now live on their own tab in the Mission Journal. There can now be multiple types of events, each tailored to their own specific goal and rewards.[...] Progress will now work like earned XP where you simply gain it until you reach your goal and then you can claim your reward. [...] All progress for upcoming Events will also now be truly account-wide, allowing you to participate in any of the new activities on any of your characters without having to worry about who had how much progress toward which reward on your account.” Information is still scarce, but we are monitoring the situation, and will likely have more to report next week! OTHER GAMING NEWS Scopely Expands Their Offices Scopely, the developer behind the hugely successful mobile game Star Trek: Fleet Command has announced plans to expand its offices in Dublin, Ireland and Barcelona, Spain. The announcement comes on the back of reports that Fleet Command has grossed $100 million since November 2018, as well as further success in several of its other franchises.  According to Scopely Co-CEO Javier Ferreira, “Our Dublin and Barcelona teams play a critical role in the Scopely journey, and we are actively hiring across both markets.” Scopely will also be doubling the size of its Los Angeles offices by 2020. Star Trek Leaves Spacedock in CSC Crypto Space Commander, CSC, launched for Early Access this summer, and now on August 29th, Star Trek will be crossing over into CSC's Galactic Federation. We've introduced listeners to CSC before, a sandbox space MMO built on an Ethereum based player economy. When this event begins on August 29th, the game will sell off the original Enterprise NCC-1701, the first of its six new Star Trek starships, in a six day Dutch auction, starting at $200,000 going down to as low as $0. Yes, we said $200,000. Other new Star Trek ships will be auctioned in turn after that. Additionally, 10,000 Star Trek Supply Crates will go on sale for $25 each. Each crate will contain one Star Trek starship and four random Star Trek modules. In the Supply Crates, you'll have a 90% chance of obtaining a Rio Grande Runabout-class starship, as seen in Deep Space Nine. The remaining 10% of crates will have one of these rarer starships: the Enterprise, Enterprise-D, Voyager, Defiant, or Rotarran. For full details, check the link in our show notes.  To learn more about CSC, visit csc-game.com. Astrometrics Report NASA Gets a Rare Look at a Rocky Exoplanet's Surface
